  1. Being strict is a good thing, but then it makes you wonder what games did get a 9 or a 10. The games that were included here are pretty varied so I wonder what genre the reviewer does like. Perhaps turn based, RPG, or fighting? Still, I think Smash Bros does deserve a 9…

    1. Really with? With the content that shadows of mordor had compared to the lack of content smash had yet shadows gets a 7 while smash gets a 8? I think it should actually be the other way around.

      1. I’m usually on team Sony/Microsoft/Third Party, but I really have to disagree. Smash Bros has loads of content and just beating all of the challenges can take a while. It’s also just more fun and thanks to the online, it’ll be relevant for years to come. I can’t say the same for Shadows of Mordor.

      2. Talking about Shadows of Mordor, I think it would have been better if it was its own series than a part of the LOTR world which barely resembles it or captures anything that world has at all, a good game though…

8/10 for Smash Brothers 3DS is good enough, personally I would only give it a 6, mainly because I don’t even care about that version…

        1. Agree commander agreed. Smash brothers 3DS is the essence of handheld beat-em ups. With enough polish it would have easily scored a ten, but Sakurai knows the WiiU version is the creme.

          1. Nintendo Second-Lieutenant Haruhi

Is it that good? I’d been wondering myself. I’m going to eventually get them both around the holidays. Should I get the 3DS one sooner?

      3. Smash has character and life, great balance tone and well designed mechanics. Shadows of modor is like fable with a little more polish. Grotesque gameplay and mundane story line. Forced violence and just loads of content that messes not! Well it is also a dragon age wannabe, hopefully dragon age inquisition is not a borefest like the second entry.

        F=ma.

    1. Awww… What about trophy rush, and smash rush, and character customization and…well, the two things I didn’t care for were no story mode, and all the characters revealed before the game launched.

      1. The challenges is what kept me playing, but a lot involved “beat this thing with ALL the characters” so I got sick of it quickly replaying the same thing over and over. Smash Run is cool, though.

And the problem with the character reveals is that almost all of them were ready at the start. All the secret characters were either returning characters or clones.

  2. I think the review was fair. Let ageeed that smash had it issues but it IS a good game. Therefore, the review to me is good thing considering EDGE ‘s history on reviews.

  3. Yeah I smash bros for the 3ds is like the a smash bros game in bare bones

    I would have give it a 7

Not even and intro , like in all smash games

  4. Wholeheartedly disagree with the review. I’d give smash mode itself a 7/10. As a whole, this game is a 5, 6 on a good day. It feels so incomplete…
Classic and Smash are fun, stray away from those 2 modes and it’s just unnecessary content.
Smash Run? More like an after thought, no story mode so Sakurai cuts up subspace emissary levels and adventure mode levels and you get to run around aimlessly for 5 minutes.
Trophy Rush could have been replaced with, (literally anything else) a character, stage, song for a level all would have been a better use of data than trophy rush.
Sadly, I don’t know where Nintendo gets off releasing this as a game, it feels like an overpriced demo for the WiiU version.

    1. The screen is too small, but that’s the only problem I have had, maybe it’s because I’m playing on the normal 3DS.
Can anybody tell me if the screen size is still a problem on the XL, or is the problem fixed…

      1. Smash just doesn’t fit on a handheld, especially if you want to play competively. I have an XL and screen problems still exist, especially in Smash Run. We only have a month until the Wii U version, so just get ready for that. Sure Smash is awesome and always will be, but the game itself is lacking on the 3DS.

  5. I like it. Still playing it. my two main complaints are: enemies fly back way easier than ever before. A person is at 180% and still comes back?WTF? And 2 yes the screen too small. If the characters were bigger/stage smaller could be better. I usually play one on one anyways but sometimes it fun to have 4 with items on just to see crazy shit to happen.

Smash run is ok. I didn’t like it at first but it grew on me and since its where you get the most coins not bad.don’t really care too much for the other modes ie multi man smash and the ones in that menu. Online lags sometimes. Classic is fun. I like trophy rush cause I like collecting the items.

All in all I love it. Yes it’s not perfect. Yes it feels kinda rushed. But I don’t entirely blame mr. Sakurai I mean there’s no other 3ds fans that could help sell systems this year. What yoshi? Kirby? Plz. still love this game regardless of score
