Some Amiibo Figures Will Only Be Available For A Limited Time

Collectors had better get their pre-orders in for Amiibo’s as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed to investors that some will only be available to purchase for a limited time. Once certain figures are removed from sale new ones will join the party. Here’s what he said.

“The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.”

“Even though amiibo will be compatible only with Wii U at the launch, we are proactively making progress on Nintendo 3DS compatibility. As the New Nintendo 3DS handheld contains an NFC reader/writer, it will be able to support amiibo after a software update. The Nintendo 3DS platform will also be able to do the same via an external NFC reader/writer, which is scheduled to be launched in 2015. With these offerings, we will increase the amiibo compatible software lineup for Nintendo 3DS.”

  1. I wonder if they will be real special editions.

And maybe sell Mii Amiibo’s via a online store. So much cool possibilities they have.

  2. that’s bad, at leat for me hehe, because those specials will never come to my country, like games special editions, or, when they come they will cost 4x more because people here love to charge more for special stuff hahahahaha!

  3. HOLY CRAP WITH SPRINKLES ON TOP!
I wanna know which ones are limited? I NEED to know!!!
I’m not rich, and can’t afford to buy them all at once. It will take months. I need to know which ones are limited so I can buy those first???!!!

    1. I’m a collector too. I need to know as well. I have zelda 3ds, pikachu 3ds. Retro 3ds, etc. I love collecting.

      1. I have the Pikachu 3DS XL, NES Edition 3DS XL and a regular black 3DS. I’d buy every special edition if I had the money. I was originally going to buy the blue Smash Bros. 3DS XL until I heard about the NES edition. I can’t resist anything based on the NES.

        1. Me too, was going for the smash bros 3dsxl as well. Til I head about the nes 3dsxl. I pre order a day later. I got to pick the best copy when it was released.

  4. That’s stupid, not everyone will have the sufficient funds to purchase all of them, what if one of the limited ones was one that a person really wanted, but by time he found the time and had enough money to buy them, the stores had no more, well tough luck, that person would have to gather up insane amounts of money to be able to own it by having to buy it off of eBay, or other online sources, people are going to take advantage of this fact and mass buy to make massive profits when no more of that type of Amiibo is availible to purchase by store means, just like the Hyrule Warriors bundle…
    Nintendo, don’t do it………………

      1. Those are greedy bastards. They try to make money off you and I. I remembered about NiNoKuni Wizard edition. It was only $100. But on eBay was $250-400.

  5. Knowing that only some can stay on shelves, the question is, which ones would these be? My guess would be Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, Link, Pikachu will certainly be mainstays, as all those figures have support on multiple games. (except Pikachu, but we all know they won’t take him down) Samus and Fox are in the interesting situation of that they have new games announced for Wii U, with Star Fox coming in 2015, and TBA on Metroid Wii U and 3DS. These games could very well support these Amiibo, so they could stay on shelves, or disappear briefly, to reappear at the launch of these games. Villager is another character that could have a potential future in an Animal Crossing Wii U game, but could very well be one of the ones that go away. This leaves us Marth and Wii Fit Trainer. Marth probably has no future, and most likely will be limited-time-only, UNLESS Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei supports it, which has no clear release date either. Wii Fit Trainer is basically for sure going to be limited-time-only, as there isn’t going to be another Wii Fit game on the Wii U.

Moving on to wave two we have Luigi, Zelda, Captain Falcon, Pit, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong.

Luigi is a definite mainstay, as he will support SSB, MK8 and MP10.
Zelda is a little more tricky to determine, but I’m guessing she will support Hyrule Warriors, and maybe even Zelda U. So I think she will stick around.
Captain Falcon is almost a definite limited, as F-Zero (for now) has no future.
Pit may not have a future, but he is relevant riding off of Uprising, so he will probably stick around for a while.
Little Mac is probably limited, because Punch-Out!! probably won’t see anymore installments for a while.
Diddy Kong has a potential future as Tropical Freeze is a recent title, and we could very well see another Donkey Kong game, so I’m gonna say he’ll stick around for a while.

TL;DR Captain Falcon, Little Mac, Marth and Wii Fit Trainer are almost definite limited figures.

Keep in mind these are just my opinions, but I feel like all this evidence adds to up to be a good guess as to what the offerings will be.

  6. I’m glad i preordered all of them. The only ones I’m not getting are wii fit trainer, marth, little mac, and rob. They’re ugly and irrelevant

  7. I would imagine this would promote a sense of collectability, although I can only imagine the more hardcore Nintendo fans to bother purchasing them. Donkey Kong will be my first Amiibo purchase.
