Shovel Knight Sells 300K Worldwide On Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, And PC

Yacht Club Game have posted an impressive sales figure for the critically acclaimed Shovel Knight. The company says the 2D platformer has sold 300,000 copies so far worldwide on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop, as well as the PC. Not bad going for an independent game and it certainly deserves those sales.

  1. Pretty good! It’s certainly been getting a lot of hype over here on MNN so it’s good to see that it’s already sold a lot. I’m sure that the reception should be positive since it’s a fun looking game.

  2. That’s fantastic! I have no doubt that they will continue to excel :) haha did they try to make a Kung Pow reference? Am I the only one who sees that? “That’s a lot of knights!!!”?

  3. I guess this guarantees that we’ll be seeing a Shovel Knight sequel real soon. Hopefully it’s exclusive to Nintendo platforms but if it’s not oh well I’ll still buy it, the first one was great 😃

      1. not just you. I thought the very same thing. I’d like to see them do 2 more – one in 16 bit snes style, then see if they can transition to 3d in “n64” style.

        1. I suggested that to them via kickstarter as well. They replied and said they were thinking the same thing. I just hope it happens and they use the SNES sound chip to make the music. That would be amazing.

    1. Get it on 3ds. You would probably want to play it on the go and its not like the graphics are a huge difference compared to the consoles.

    1. The 3DS if you’re always on the go but if you’re a homebody then the Wii U would be the way to go. Regardless of what platform you choose you’re still gonna have a blast

    2. I bought It on both 3DS and WiiU.
I personally think the 3DS controls are tighter, and I really like the 3D effect. As it’s a retro style game, I think it looks better on the smaller screen.

  4. I was just about to insult this game. But after watching the video, I realized it looked like my kind of game. Too bad I don’t support digital games.

    1. Shovel Knight is epic. It really is ashame. You’ve missed out on a game that easily takes it’s place among the NES and SNES greats.

  5. “Not bad” ?! Dude, 300k for an indie game is something that happens once every 50k games, this is great numbers !

  6. Absolutely great numbers. They only expected/hoped to sell 100k. Thats alot of profit for them. With a game that probably cost less than one million to make, they made 4.5 million.
