The Game Awards Had Nearly 2 Million Viewers Which Is A 75% Increase Over VGA’s

Wow, it turns out The Game Awards were nothing short of a roaring success. Geoff Keighley, the producer behind the show, has revealed that they had 1.93 million viewers last Friday which is a 75% increase over the last year’s VGA awards. Interestingly social media monitoring and analytics company Sysmos says The Game Awards had a 96 percent “favorable” sentiment on the various networks. However, Keighly still says there’s some things he would change. Here’s what he had to say about the presentation.

“I am absolutely stunned by the results,” Keighley said. “We didn’t have any marketing budget or TV spots for the show. I’m used to having a lot of support resources — a promotional team, a digital media team, a PR team. All we had was the support of the game publishers and fans to spread the word and on social media.”

“It’s empowering that we as a community can get the word out virally about a show like this. I always knew the show would get a better critical response from the community, but in many ways I was making a more serious show that risked not having as much mainstream appeal. That’s why Kiefer Sutherland, Conan O’Brien, Trey Parker and Imagine Dragons were such important bookings. All of them truly love games and came to celebrate our medium.”

“I was really happy with how things turned out.,” Keighley said. “Certainly the audience numbers were well beyond my wildest dreams, and creatively I’m proud of what we put on the screen. Moments like the tribute to Ken and Roberta Williams and the Koji Kondo/Imagine Dragons performance were once in a lifetime experiences.”

  1. Couldn’t said it better myself the the game awards was pretty dam good the VGA was garbage sucked monkey nutsack glad its shutdown

    1. I tried to warn people who were saying “The Game Awards will suck because VGAs sucked last year,” but some people just wouldn’t listen to me. I tried to tell them that the Game Awards was a completely revamped show that was not going to be like VGAs at all…

Some people just refuse to hear what’s up.

  2. Very satisfied with the show itself and a bit upset with the nominations…and lots of Zelda fans freaking out too. I hope Keighley maintains The game awards very very far from Spike Tv and those others assholes.

    1. Well it is his show, and this time his vision of what he truely wanted is what he did. We can be certain that next years Game Awards will be even better and will have more viewers.

It was a really great show I just wished Miyamoto or Sakurai were there in person.

  3. I watched it from start to finish and loved it. It’s so refreshing to see a game awards show thats really about the games, and not the celebrities. It was hands down the best awards show I have ever seen.

Let’s see how they handle success now. Hopefully the next show wont veer off course.

  4. The show was interesting. It wasn’t as fine tuned as say… the Oscars, but it was definitely more mature along those lines. Things I would like to see improved are adding in more people ACTUALLY receiving their rewards. A lot of the show seemed like one big stall until the “big reveal” which was Game of the Year.

I would also like to see more video game material that EVERYONE can relate to. There was a TON of PS4/Sony stuff, but not a lot regarding the other platforms. It would be cool if they could make little cartoon shorts of videogames or short movie segments that feature videogame crossovers that normally don’t happen. Like Pikachu meats Spyro or Samus faces off against Master Chief and stuff like that (with Nintendo, Activision and Microsoft’s permission of course).

I just think the show was a bit on the boring side and could be made more interesting and exciting. Otherwise, the content itself was well done. The winners of the awards seemed fair enough. It’s more than I could have asked for in a Video Games Award show to be honest.

  5. I could never stand watching something like this. It would drive me insane having to watch all of the Playstation and Xbox games while waiting for the GOOD stuff. Yes, Nintendo.

    1. Lol. Yea, Nintendo was the main reason to watch. But honestly, No Man’s Sky, and Adrift looked pretty amazing. People are bitching about the Witcher 3 being delayed, but honestly thats a good sign.

I do think it’s funny watching Sony and Microsoft fight over 3rd party exclusives, while Nintendo is dropping exclusive hit after hit. Every Nintendo game is an exclusive. Next we have Xenoblade, Star Fox, and (drum roll) ZELDA!! Sorry, but unless Bethseda drops the Elder Scrolls 6, there aint nothing thats gonna come close to the epicness of those three games next year.

They said we were going to get a major Wii U release every month in 2015.
Here is a list so far of the Wii U games scheduled for release in 2015.

      1st Party/exclusives

      Kirby and The Rainbow Curse
      Yoshi’s Wooly World
      Project Giant Robot
      Mario Party 10
      Devils Third
      Mario Maker
      Splatoon
      Project Guard
      Xenoblade Chronicles X
      Star Fox
      Zelda

Those are just the games we know about. While i’m not thrilled about some of them, most of them are gonna be really good. I am confident we will see a Major Wii U game released every month through the entire year.

      3rd party/3ds

      Monster Hunter 4 U
      Mighty Number Nine
      Majoras Mask
      Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
      Project Cars
