UK Charts: Super Smash Bros Remains Only Wii U Game Within Individual Top 40

This week’s individual UK charts are now in courtesy of GFK Chart-Track and UKIE. And there’s not much change at the top of the post-Christmas charts with Grand Theft Auto V leading the pack once again. After the disappearance of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U now remains the console’s sole title in the individual charts and moves down to 36.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on Nintendo 3DS also hop down a few ladder rungs into places 31 and 35, respectively. With Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker officially releasing this week for European Wii U users, it will be interesting to see how it fares in next week’s charts. 1. Dont know why anyone would buy the game again just for first person view and update graphic, ive played the original and this IMO is just a cash grab..

      1. Some people like myself had a feeling that it would get upgraded. Everyone else is an idiot fir buying it twice within a year.

        1. -First person mode
-Online mode upgraded to 30 players
Assisted Aim – Full: Traditional instant GTA 5 targeting
Assisted Aim – Partial: Short lock-on period
Free Aim – Assisted: Brief initial lock on and under-the-hood aim assistance.
          Free Aim: No lock on.

And all the standard better visuals, longer draw distances, better framerates, more foliage, all the DLC combined, PS3/Xbox 360 online data transferable to PS4/Xbox One versions, new missions, clothing, animals, vehicles.

And the ability to play as an animal

      1. Wii U owner here and I think one of the main problems for it is the game pad. In the past we didn’t have extra screens or off TV play on our consoles and look how much we enjoyed them still. There’s A LOT of problems with the game pad don’t feel like listing them but you can see them for yourself. Don’t get me wrong, I like the game pad; off TV play can be useful, it can be used creatively in games (mainly party ones) and the touch screen adds for unique features. Maybe Nintendo can redesign it or make it that it doesn’t have to be the primary controller.

        1. I wholeheartedly agree with that. The Gamepad is really my only problem with the system, but it’s a pretty big one when they force it on you sometimes. Stage Builder on Smash Bros is an example of a place where a normal remote should be an option…

          1. Honestly I feel like the stage builder in Smash U is one place where the gamepad SHOULD have shined, but from what I hear the stage builder in this is worse than brawl’s in some ways. For non-gaming and stuff like internet browsing and netflix I like the gamepad, but for gaming it has become less and less useful to me. It was fun in Wonderful 101 and Lego City Undercover, but the uses in those games were nothing mind blowing. In Wonderful 101 is was actually annoying at times like when you would go in those gamepad view rooms and had to walk around using the motion sensor and such. It was a pain in the ass. I started using my pro controller for Wonderful 101 half way through and couldn’t go back to the gamepad after and took back everything I said about the gamepad being comfortable for gaming. It’s not. And now of course Smash is out and I have been using my gameCUBE controllers and….I want them to be used for all games again lol. It’s much more comfortable than the pro controller for me, and the buttons are placed better. The pro controller makes my hands hurt after extended play but the cube doesn’t and never has. Next gen they need to make a great NORMAL controller. I wouldn’t mind if we could still use our gamepads on the next system as long as it’s not packed in with every system and considered the standard. Pro controller is just a second thought and you can tell. The buttons are mushy and cheap, the triggers in back feel cheap, even the plastic feels pretty cheap compared to the gamecube. After 2 gens of weird controllers Nintendo needs to get back to making an awesome normal one, like every system before the wii.

            1. Agreed, the Gamepad should be optional and unfortunately you are correct about the Stage Builder. It looked so cool in the Direct, but it’s actually very limited. I used it for a bit, but I have more fun on the normal stages so I just stick to that anyway. The Gamecube controller has always been my favorite way to play so I was thrilled to have it back. I think it should have been compatable with all Wii U games that support the Classic Remote, but apparently Nintendo made sure that it only works with Super Smash Bros. I think they dropped the ball there and while the Pro Controller is certainly better than nothing, the GC Remote will always reign supreme. I do hope that Nintendo does go back to standard remotes without gimmicks for the next gen.

        2. Speak for yourself, but I have no problem with the gamepad. If you can’t play with it, there are alternatives to use. But do me and others, who share my experiences with the gamepad, a favor and don’t speak in out names that the gamepad is a problem.

  1. I have to say I am a bit surprise that COD, FIFA, GTA V and minecraft are still there especially minecraft cause by now most of the Xbox or PS owner must have a copy of it. I don’t think people will buy mulitple copies of the same game….

  2. Only one exclusive made top 10? This whole chart is full of 3rd party. Sunset Overdrive and Smash can’t outsell 3rd party tittles. And for some reason 8 million Wii U owners won’t buy 3rd party Exclusives only for Wii U. Then complain why those 3rd party developers won’t make another game only for Wii U.

  3. Why lump the console market & video games [Nintendo or otherwise], in w/ the multimedia box & interactive movie markets? Apples are selling better than oranges. Ohhh-kaaaay? But how are oranges selling in their respective market? Is their room & do they still profit?

  4. EX uk channel islands white englishmen ANTI CHAV

THE UK FACT ONLY CHAVS BUY PS4 AND XBOX

AND UK IS FULL OF CHAVS LOOK AT THAT CHART COD FIFA GTA

CASE RESTED THERE NOT GAMERS THERE CHAVS, REST OF EUROPE WIIU IS DOING GREAT AD KILLING XBOX

THE UK IS A EMBARESSMENT TO GAMING I LEFT A YEAR AGO I COULDNT TAKE IT ANYMORE TE PLACE IS OVER AND THIS REFLECTS IT

    SHIT HOLE BRITAIN

    1. I think it goes without saying now. I bet Michael Bays Transformers was the U.K.’s most popular movie too? An Coka cola is U.K.’s favorite drink. Painfully mainstream. You guys need to stop watching so many commercials…

  5. Why hate on the uk? The rest of the world is the same. They might not buy the exact types of games (although north America and Europe are similar) but these are the mainstream games. These are the games that they get marketed to. Maybe Japan is slightly different in their tastes but they still primarily only buy their mainstream games aswell. Just pay attention to their list. It’s the same games for them. Except they dislike foreign products which is worse imo. You see plenty of rpgs on Japanese list, just like you see plenty of competitive games for the western markets. Just like Pokémon and monster hunter are popular in Japan, fifa and call of duty are popular in the west. And what’s wrong with gta selling well in the uk? That’s where the studio that came up with the franchise originated from. I’m sure the creators know their country and advertise enough to their people. Why not ask why yokoi watch keeps selling tons of units in Japan? You guys have to stop whining or start complaining about more important issues. Like is cell phone gaming really a threat to handheld gaming? Do dedicated gaming consoles have a future? And where does Nintendo stand in all this? What’s going on with virtual reality headsets (Facebook/oculus rift) and will Nintendo really be ready to respond with a resurrected virtual boy? Will motion controls continue to improve and enhance or even introduce new ways to play games or are we forever stuck using dual analog controllers (archaic!)? Anything please. The whining is getting tiresome. Let’s be more creative with our complaints. Let’s ask what would Nintendo do? WWND. Lol they tend to do a good job most of the time, even if they take forever to do so.

    1. ” Like is cell phone gaming really a threat to handheld gaming? ”
Oh boy, can you imagine those drones gone raging mad if they read that, lol.

  6. GTA5 – Cool
Assassin’s Creed – Broken and rehashed
Call of Duty – Also broken and rehashed
FIFA 15 – Rehashed but typical for UK
    DriverClub – Broken
The Crew – Broken with shit tons of paywalls and microtransactions?! Are you on drugs Ubishit?

    1. Actually I do; I go to work, visit my father and meet with friends… and if I find some time, I play Super Mario World 3D, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. But it seems like that PS4 and Xbox One player have no lives, because they have to run after every shitty achievement to get 100% of their broken games. But I don’t say something ugly about it ;P

      1. How many broken games are there right now? THREE. And what does 100% a game have to do with not having a life?? It’s making the most out of your money and enjoying the full experience, it’s like saying people who unlock all characters for Smash 3DS are nerds

  7. The game pad is not a problem and it would be stupid to stop selling it with the system when 2015 going to have games that use the game pad a lot

      1. Just because it outsells other consoles, does not mean it is a horrible console. What games does the Xbox One has? How good is the gamepad? How user-friendly is the hub program? See, it doesn’t matter if the console outsells others, when the console itself is horrible on other ways and you only sees this after you bought it. But that’s only my two coins :)

        1. What games?
          Sunset Overdrive
          Halo MCC
          Titanfall
          Forza Horizon 2
          GTA V
          Rayman Legends
          Diablo 3
          Far Cry 4
          Dragon Age Inquisition
          Just to name a few…

Clean, simple OS that can multitask, record clips, and instantly switch apps all while playing a round of Halo 2

GamePad widely considered to be the best they’ve made. Significantly better d-pad, more responsive triggers, rumble is stronger, grip is extended, 30 hour battery life

  8. Whens xb1 and ps4 gonna step out of the last gen of boring shitty games? Gta cod bf ac madden nbak2 will this shit ever fuckin stop? Ps4 and xb1 are dated as far as games go. Its sad.

    1. COD sales are lower this year

GTA has a Metacritic of 96

      BF isn’t out this year

AC Unity has been patched and is running well

Madden and NBA isn’t even in the charts

    2. You can dream all you want. Demand is still there for PS4 and Xbone. Even if either of them is going to be off business. Some company will buy the brand and continuing the cycle.

    3. As I said above, that is the fault of the fanboys, who blindly follow those devs. If you won’t see those games in the charts, you have to make them stop buying those games. That simple, but this won’t happen and so, we will see those games again and again and again and again etc.

  9. These charts are disgusting, it looks like only dude/bro males in the UK buy video games, and to think these insecure idiots are buying AC: Unity over any Nintendo game, hell even over all the games behind it! WTF!? I guess they not only like guns and violence, also bugs and unfinished shit!

    1. Calm yourself tiger. Because there’s no Nintendo games in Xbox1 or PS4. Why buy Wii-U? Over a game that features online multiplayers, in-gameplay voice chat (Unlike MK8 and SMASH), very rewarding systems, cheaper games and etc. Have you wonder why Pikmin 3 didn’t sell well?

    1. Jealous much?

Won’t have any “friends” unless you play what the rest of the braindead jackoffs play, aye? Monkey see, monkey do. But hey, if you like eating poo…

You seriously like idle controllers? You like spending in upwards of sixty dollars for a few hours of gameplay and a long but shallow and pretentious movie? And what would a steaming pile of shit be without a bunch of bugs. Mmm…you must be in hog heaven.

      You like photorealistic, uninspired violence?

You like buying expensive multimedia boxes that have few exclusives and few 8th gen games? You really willing to defend the same turd if it was brought into HD but still warm?

You must have started “gaming” in the seventh generation when the industry started backsliding into the movie medium. Open your eyes and learn what a real console and real gaming is. Or stop pretending to be a gamer. You have no business talking about Nintendo or the Wii U, poseur. Better you just ignored the pearls.

      “Sooie!!”

Hear that? Third parties have some more slop for you. This is not the sixth generation where third parties made good games. Now they can’t even make real games anymore. You’d know that of you weren’t debauched by seventh gen Sony or all generations of MS and raped by the unlubed dildos that third parties started shoving down noobies’ throats in the seventh generation.

      1. jealous about what? The fact that he doesn’t get to play a Mario game?

Oh you mean idle controllers that aren’t forced gimmicks and ones that developers can easily embrace?

You mean “movies” that have won Oscars in interactive story telling? Or games like DA Inquisition, Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4 which dont even focus on story in the first place and puts gameplay first like what Nintendo fanboys love?

Steaming pile of shits surprisingly still have more games now, and in the future than what Wii U will ever get. Shocking.

Ignoring games like Alien Isolation, Ori and the Blind Forest, Forza, which aren’t photorealistic, aren’t violent?

Maybe what these “jack offs” are playing are immersive, rich, and highly rated games? Oh wait, your opinion is God, shouldn’t have my own should I!

Expensive? It’s only a hundred bucks more than a Wii U, with more powerful hardware, a better controller, and long term investment. Ignoring Forza 5, Titanfall, Halo MCC, Sunset Overdrive, and the future with Quantum Break, Halo 5, Scalebound, Gears Of War together with existing 8th gen games like Far Cry Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age?

Well that turd plays better, looks better, and sounds better. Looks like it was steamed well

Considering the movie medium is immersive, and the gameplay remains excellent, your point is incredibly invalid

A real console has a traditional controller, powerful specs, great third parties and first parties. That was GameCube, that was Xbox 360, that is PS4 and Xbox One

Real gaming is having variety and loving all consoles and games, whether it be Mario, whether it be The Wolf Among Us, whether it be COD. Something which you lack miserably

Ah, the Nintendo pearls, which apparently reveal themselves once every 2 months compared to the others which reveals themselves every week

Yeah, the delicious slop of MGS V, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight which Wii U gamers like me sadly will never get to experience……………………unless I have a PS4 and Xbox One that is

Yet Bioware’s latest game is rated 90 on average

Your definition of real games? Games with easy gameplay (3D World), terrible online experience(Mario Kart), empty single player (Smash), and no story at all (everything Nintendo has made for the last decade)?

Ah the third parties of seventh gen, which never came to the Wii. The ones which have 90+ Metacritic scores, the ones that will stand the test of time, the ones that pave the way and disrupt the industry. In other words the ones that Nintendo will never get or understand I see

        1. “jealous about what? The fact that he doesn’t get to play a Mario game?”

Try Donkey Kong (much better than 2D Mario), but there’s Zelda, Star Fox, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Devil’s Third… And yes, Mario Kart and 3D Mario games. Wish I could include F-Zero, Wave Race, Eternal Darkness (maybe we’ll see a sequel), Nights (well, Rodea might fit), Mad World, Red Steel, Tenchu, real Resident Evil (the HD makeovers don’t count), Billy Hatcher, Tenchu, Prince of Persia (but it’s usually multiplat, as is Beyond Good and Evil), No More Heroes, etc. Of course, the Wii U is reverse compatible with Wii, so some are still relevant (hey, it’s new until you’ve tried it).

“Oh you mean idle controllers that aren’t forced gimmicks and ones that developers can easily embrace?”

It’s a double-edged sword for a reason. Push for innovation and things feel forced. Make optional and it gets lost. Compromise vision, or go all in. Granted, it’s not as revolutionary as the Wiimotes, but it still makes navigating the OS intuitive, and hey, it has all the physical inputs necessary (except maybe analong shoulder buttons). But wait, just like Wii, there’s a traditional controller, and the Wiimote also works, even the Gamecube controller. Do you buy cable or satellite? Better stop because I doubt you watch every channel, and that’s a monthly fee instead of a one time deal and you’re done.

“You mean “movies” that have won Oscars in interactive story telling? Or games like DA Inquisition, Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4 which dont even focus on story in the first place and puts gameplay first like what Nintendo fanboys love?”

Fine if it puts gameplay first, if it’s in terms of focus and amount of time spent playing versus watching. But how many twin games do that? And compared to console games (i.e. Wii U)?

“Steaming pile of shits surprisingly still have more games now, and in the future than what Wii U will ever get. Shocking.”

More “games”? They might have more titles, but games? And how many genres do their libraries hold?

“Ignoring games like Alien Isolation, Ori and the Blind Forest, Forza, which aren’t photorealistic, aren’t violent?”

Okay. Ignoring the point of that one particular aspect. But again, what’s the norm? Photorealistic, FPS, Open-World titles with M-ratings and usually overglorified QTEs.

“Maybe what these “jack offs” are playing are immersive, rich, and highly rated games? Oh wait, your opinion is God, shouldn’t have my own should I!”

Sorry if I came across like that. But ‘rich’ and ‘immersive’ are relative terms. To me, gameplay fits those qualities, otherwise I’d watch a film, even a movie, or read a novel. But a game? Maybe something like Hotel Dusk, or Phoenix Wright if it’s story I’m really after in games. But a game has to have more gameplay than story and cutscenes to be an actual game.

“Expensive? It’s only a hundred bucks more than a Wii U, with more powerful hardware, a better controller, and long term investment. Ignoring Forza 5, Titanfall, Halo MCC, Sunset Overdrive, and the future with Quantum Break, Halo 5, Scalebound, Gears Of War together with existing 8th gen games like Far Cry Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age?”

With that extra hundred, you could get another game (hell, a lot if thwy’re indies), another controller, a couple novels, donate to charity, a nice meal… And without any real exclusives, then really, they’re budget PCs and yeah, cheaper than full, already built PCs. But..they ain’t really consoles.

‘Power’ is relative. Depends on how it’s used. Still no real leaps in physics and graphics, especially no leaps in terms of new ways to play on a console unless you count the gamepad (and look past its Dreamcast controller and Gameyboy Advance/Gamecube connector similarities).

Long-term investments require a leap of faith. Sadly, is all about third parties and multiplats, so raw power is what really matters when looking for that budget PC.

“Well that turd plays better, looks better, and sounds better. Looks like it was steamed well”

Plays better? How so? No Gamepad, or Wiimote, which work well for what they do. Maybe the pro controller isn’t the best, or the Gamecube controller, but Wii U can be just as traditional and archaic as the others where controls are concerned.

“Considering the movie medium is immersive, and the gameplay remains excellent, your point is incredibly invalid”

No. The movie medium is it’s own medium. Games can have elements from it, but controllers need to serve as the main input to constitute a game. Are you saying something that has an element from another medium or even genre is the same as that medium or genre? Yeah, Metroidvania and Destiny are an RPGs.

“A real console has a traditional controller, powerful specs, great third parties and first parties. That was GameCube, that was Xbox 360, that is PS4 and Xbox One”

Wii U has a traditional controller (3 if you also count the Wii classic and Gamecube). Wii U has powerful specs, above all seventh generation consoles. ‘Great third parties’ is a misnomer this generation. Just look at how Sega, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, have decayed. And where’s Treasure? They made great games, talented devs, and huge catalogs. All gone now, at least from those publishers. But of course Wii U has great 1st party, its Nintendo, and they rely on that. Compare their track record and catalog with Sony and MS. Compare Sony’s active catalog to their sixth generation catalog. And keep in mind, the seventh generation produced MicroSony, or the twin paradigm.

“Real gaming is having variety and loving all consoles and games, whether it be Mario, whether it be The Wolf Among Us, whether it be COD. Something which you lack miserably”

‘Variety’? Since when? Come on…. Since the sixth generation. And no, there can be distasteful consoles and franchises. Fanboys are blind, but so are those who buy and play anything, regardless. Have some pride and think for yourself. It’s okay to dislike a lot under the sun, just have good reasons for doing so.

I lack what? The things I dislike? Yep. But Saturn and PSOne had great games. Wish I had a PS2, but the Gamecube and Gameboy Advance took up all my time and money regarding games. Now? 3DS has me covered for turn-based strat RPGs, and other genres that are even dead on the twins. And that’s where third parties shine. Oh, sorry, they tend not to be Western junk. Sorry, but Rare, Silicone Knights, Ubisoft, and THQ are downhill or dead.

“Ah, the Nintendo pearls, which apparently reveal themselves once every 2 months compared to the others which reveals themselves every week”

Um, a pearl takes time to form and must pass the quality test. How does it play? What genre? Anything new? If much is the same, when’s the last time its predecessor was experienced? Aesthetic choices? How do the imperfections compare to the overall quality? How much story is there? Is that good? Regardless, can it be skipped?

And what are these so-called third party or MicroSony pearls that are cranked out every week you speak of? Transistor (also on PC) and Cuphead (not yet out and also coming to Steam) are two pearls (maybe) I could think of that exclude Wii U. And where are the Japanese-style games?

“Yeah, the delicious slop of MGS V, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight which Wii U gamers like me sadly will never get to experience……………………unless I have a PS4 and Xbox One that is”

Hey, if that’s your thing, go for it. If I wanted stuff like that, I would’ve gotten a PS360 last generation. Those types of “games” still don’t appeal to me now. But then most of my favorite genres are dead or dying now anyway.

“Yet Bioware’s latest game is rated 90 on average”

Okay. That means what to me? Sorry, ‘slop’ was uncalled for. I have no interest in that medium or style of gaming. Nintendo, Sony (pre seventh generation), and Sega (sixth generation and back), and what third parties created then were my style. But Sony and third parties jumped the shark, or went overboard. MS and their PC approach never suited my tastes, but they seem to have hijacked the console arena. Nintendo, a few third parties, and indies make what I want now.

“Your definition of real games? Games with easy gameplay (3D World), terrible online experience(Mario Kart), empty single player (Smash), and no story at all (everything Nintendo has made for the last decade)?”

Easy? Superficially, perhaps. But delve deeper and you might find that challenge is there.

MK8’s online had a few hiccups connecting for me, but I still raced against live opponents. What else is more important. Pretty straightforward. Very satisfying.

          I don’t care about Smash.

Again with stories? Oh, Nintendo does have them, however sparse they may be. But, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are heavy with story, maybe not on the level of interactive move. Then again, I prefer Prime and how its story is optional. But why care when gameplay is the point? I can enjoy chess without a storyline. I’d still enjoy Fire Emblem if they didn’t have stories.

“Ah the third parties of seventh gen, which never came to the Wii. The ones which have 90+ Metacritic scores, the ones that will stand the test of time, the ones that pave the way and disrupt the industry. In other words the ones that Nintendo will never get or understand I see”

There were plenty of third parties on Wii. That was the last Ninty console where my third party collection exceeded first party. Look at Ubisoft’s entries: Red Steel, RS2, No More Heroes, NMH2, Tenchu, Rayman, PoP (shitty, yes, but at least they tried)… And Sega: Sonic up the ass (and good ones), Nights, Conduit, C2, House of the Dead… Capcom: Umbrella Chron, Darkside Chron, Sengoku Basara, Okami, Tatsunoku vs…. Then there was Muramasa, Castle of Shikigami III, Mushroom Men, Ghostbusters, Silent Hill… With Wii U, it’s mostly indies to create what third parties no longer do. Third parties can keep the pollution off the last of the real consoles.

Disrupt the industry? You mean, play it safe, pander to the lowest common denom, and add filler instead of actual gameplay? No, the Gamepad would disrupt the industry and push it into a more intuitive place, though not as much as the Wiimotes did. But third parties wanna copy and paste, use archaic controllers, dev for x86 [ancient], and focus on movies than an immersive experiences where the player is in control and actually, uh, plays.

  10. One Wii U game on a list of 40? It’s official. I’ve lost all respect for the UK. They have the worst taste in games.

  11. I TOTAL AGREE WITH WANT YOU HAVE SAID THAT WOULD REALLY BE A GREAT THING TO DO TO DISTROY CONSUMERS TRUST IWATA LAUGH LAUGH ANUMA AND SIGRUMIYAMOTO HA HA REGIEE LAUGH HA HA HA HA

  12. Jealous much?

  13. Then no more consoles in general. Which might lead to no more games. Hmm, kinda weird that the multimedia boxes from the twins mostly host interactive movies. Kinda weird that these budget PC offer games that are neither exclusive nor optimized. But you keep your highpriced garbage and your glistening turds.

What do you have against real gaming anyway? Just stick with your brass rings while those who enjoy gaming and quality will stick with the pearls. Maybe, if you clean yourself up, you wouldn’t be counted amongst the unwashed mass and might actually rise above the rest of this filth.
