The Nintendo Minute team has wrapped up its Game of the Year discussions. Series hosts Kit and Krysta have deemed Mario Kart 8 their favorite game of 2014. The duo praised the title’s first pack of DLC, which includes new courses, vehicles and characters from other Nintendo games like The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero and Excitebike. It also introduces three Mario Kart newcomers: Link, Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach. The DLC can be purchased for $7.99 from the in-game menu or in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U.

You would be better off playing the main series first, you’d get to know the characters and references better in Q that way. But if you’re just a big fan of dungeon crawlers you should definitely get this. It can get brutally hard at times though
I love MK8 and the new DLC. But I have to say there’s no way I’d give it GOTY for 1 major reason. MK8 has 2 modes. Racing and Battle Mode. Battle Mode is completely broken, it’s a total mess, I or nobody I know plays it. If Nintendo fix it, which they won’t, then yes it’s a worthy contender but until then it can remain jacked on cavity blocks.
I’d go with Smash Bros. or Bayonetta 2.

Damn. Its almost like Smash Bros. doesnt exist in many reviewer’s mind for some reason. I have no problem with MK8 and happy its getting more recognition but damn. Its all I hear about. No Smash Bros. 4? Bayonetta 2? Hyrule Warriors?
Isn’t that just great? Nintendo had so many great quality games that it’s hard to be in the top even for Smash Bros.
Well, it is great but its sad that other games are being foreshadowed so quickly. I really wanted Bayonetta 2 to win GotY and I wanted Smash Bros. to push Wii U sales beyond but still nothing. :(

Its not surprising at all. Smash has never really done well COMPARED to the MK series. I’m honestly surprise that anyone thought it would take any awards over MK because, well its freaking MK, it has a broader appeal.
No, they have done very well. Only MK6 on Wii did phenomenal because of the system’s popularity and Brawl was the second best selling game of Wii aside from Wii Sports.
COMPARED to Mario Kart, and no you’re wrong. Mario Kart Wii outsold Smash by a 3:1 margin. Every MK has done better than all the Smash games in each console respectively except for Melee. MK64 did better than Smash 64, Double Dash is/was a few thousand units behind Melee, the 3DS for obvious reasons, and this one will be no different.
Nope, Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario bros, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Fit plus, Wii Sports Resort, and Mario Kart Wii all sold better than Brawl.
All I’m saying is that I’m surprise that any one is surprised about MK8 getting awards over Smash.

Those are a few IPs coming exclusively to the Wii U. Xenoblade Chronicles X, Star Fox and The Legend of Zelda will also arrive for the first time in HD. 2015 will be the Year of X and Z. ^Wrong! I’ve played many great games published by EA. Just to name a few–Spore, Dragon Age: Origins, Sims 2, and more. Don’t just hate all the games a publisher does just because they have made a couple bad mistakes in newer ones. (I’m not particularily fond of EA myself though, but they’re games usually are good-great)
Sure, Mario Kart 8 was a great game. But calling it “game of the year” is kinda stretching it.
Dragon Age was easily the game to buy in 2014. It really wasn’t a close race for the top spot.
