Nintendo Was Previously Accepting Pitches From Third Parties On Successor To Wii U

Digital Foundry has written an interesting piece speculating about the inevitable successor to the Wii U. In the speculative piece Digital Foundry stated that they had an informal chat with a well-placed individual in the hardware manufacturing business who informed them eighteen months ago that Nintendo was already accepting pitches from third parties on the hardware make-up of their next home console. Both AMD and Imagination Technologies were apparently mentioned by the source. It would make perfect sense for Nintendo to be busy creating their next console, but it’s unlikely to launch for another couple of years.

Around 18 months ago, during an informal chat with an extremely well-placed individual in the hardware manufacturing business, an interesting nugget of information dropped into the conversation – Nintendo was already accepting pitches from third parties on the hardware make-up of its successor for Wii U. Two names were mentioned: AMD and Imagination Technologies, creators of the PowerVR mobile graphics tech. With the lack of backing sources, that little aside never made it to print, but as Nintendo strives to bounce back from the Wii U sales disappointment, eyes inevitably turn towards future platforms.

  1. Lol Nintendo have to crawl to third parties because they cant make a capable system that can support their games.. Lol how pathetic.

      1. Actually they have in the past too, for instance SGI Onyx and its ties to the N64. The pitches from 3rd parties is talking about tech suppliers.

    1. Seeing how Nintendo isn’t in the same type of hardware company as Sony (a huge tech company spanning everything from flash drives to televisions), or Microsoft (which for a while nearly held a monopoly in computer operation software), it isn’t surprising to find they would seek third companies to complete their consoles.

This isn’t saying Nintendo is outsourcing their next console (as the oddly worded title suggests). It’s saying they’re already looking for the parts that go *inside* whatever they’re looking to do next.

      1. Nintendo is not in the same time type… What? Doesn’t Nintendo specifically specialize is games? If they can’t even make a decent gaming console then they should just stop making them period.

        1. I’m not sure you understand how consoles work… Companies (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft) Buy Parts (GPU, CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Etc) from companies that make said parts (AMD, Nvidia, Imagination Tech, Etc.), Nintendo/sony/Microsoft, then develop an operating system to run their next console in and at the same time develop a case and and any features they plan on having. You wouldn’t find many Sony or Microsoft parts in their consoles, Sony Uses their Bluray drive and thats it.
Infact both the Xbox one and PS4 run IDENTICAL Hardware (Or incredibly close to from memory the ram is different in type but the same amount), The Operating system in each is the only thing that differs them.

        2. No not the same, for instance Sony is a chips manufacturer. Sony for instance makes the CMOS and other digital sensors that go in the majority of cameras out there such as Nikon and Olympus.

          1. Software house always give hints to Sony and MS about how powerful a console should be, how much ram to put into it and so on. Some software house only work on PC because they don’t like limitations. Don’t forget the only hint that Ninty asked about Wii U was about the ram, Ninty wanted to put 768MB of video ram, sh like shin’en told them to put at least 1GB

    2. So suddenly when Nintendo outsources some third party help for their tech, they’re “desperate” and lame. But when the other two do it which they have since they jumped into the market…

Got anything else cleverly hypocritical to say?

          1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

I hope I get the privilege from darkness to annihilate these filthy things once and for all…

                1. Its not mine and I don’t play it. But I can only praise its controller because its good aside from the AA batteries requirement which there’s a side rechargeable battery pack to address it. Also, I love Gears of War but that’s it.

  2. I’m not a native English speaker, so, anyone would like to tell me in which context is being used the word “pitches” here?

    1. Since Nintendo was too stupid in 2008 they better not release the next console too soon. Why should 8 million Wii u owners upgrade because Nintendo was too stupid trying to play catch up with PS3? That’s their fault. Thinking something a little bit more powerful than 5 year old consoles was a good idea.

  3. Should have thought of 2014-15 in 2008. But instead they thought playing catch up with PS3 was a good idea. That was stupid.

    1. It didnt need to play catch up when Wii already embarrassed the shit out of two semi-“powerful” consoles back then plus those two had their own share of major hardware issues like Red Ring, overheating or PSN sucking in stability.

      1. If the Wii embarrassed the PS3 and 360 so hard, why is it discontinued while PS3 and 360 are STILL getting games? Not only that, but it pushed the “Nintendo is kids” to a whole new level to the point that people actually make fun of you for owning Nintendo products.

        1. Easy. Because the Wii U is backwards compatable so it doesnt need the Wii in the market any longer. Taking the Wii off the market helps Wii U sales and provides more shelf space and supply.

            1. Well, there’s a difference in “helping” and “making the Wii U reach record sales among all consoles”. Gotta figure some of those Wii U’s were bought up because they couldnt get a Wii. Help is help no matter how great or small. its the difference between making $99 off a Wii and $299 off a Wii U.

  4. Its pretty dumb Nintendo needs ideas from 3rd party to build next gen console. All they have to do is think about 2019 and it shouldn’t be a problem.

    1. And how are they slow when Sony and Microsoft does the same shit with their console successors? You’re the one that’s slow. And besides the PS4 and Xbox One are outdated too when compared to modern gaming PCs. None of the current gen consoles (and yeah this includes the Wii U) have cutting edge graphics. The Wii U is the only current gen console that’s trying something new as far as innovation is concerned while the other two are nothing but slightly updated low to midrange PCs with slightly more online features

      1. The problem is t trying something new. The problem isWii U could have been better if they thought about Power. Not graphics but power like handling 4 gamepads, powerful enough not to get error messages from Netflix ever now in then. A better browser, more gigs, more cores. Why would they think in 2008 3 cores would be enough for 2014-15. Why would they think back in 2008, 25ft Gamepad would be enough for 2014-15? Also why dies Wiimode need to take minutes before playing? Why can’t it just share the same OS as Wii U can. GameCube and Wii shared the same OS. Why didn’t they make Wii U controllers work for the Wii OS? Why would they think 8gigs would be enough by the time 2013 got here? That’s why they had to stop making the 8gig version. Now. Why didn’t they think of adding GameCube adaptors with Wii U in 2008?

        1. I hope they make all games compatible with the gamecube controllers eventually. After playing smash for a while and going back to mario kart and being forced to use a pro controller as the best option, I noticed even more how uncomfortable the thing is. I have to bend my thumb to stay on the gas and it hurts over time, where as the A button on the gamecube is perfect, no bending required. And the fat prongs that you grip hurt too after extended play, whereas I can play ALL day and have no pain from the gamecube controller. Get rid of that afterthought controller and go with what’s best. And honestly at this point I have no problem paying for internet that is smooth. $50 a year is nothing, I thought it was more. If that’s nintendo fans argument about nintendos internet being the best, that’s pathetic. I’ll gladly pay $50 a year for great internet than have free laggy internet. If $50 a YEAR is a lot to you, you’ve got the wrong hobby.

        2. That’s 3 cores on PowerPC, which has different metrics compared to x86. As far as I know, only 1 core on Wii U has been used so far. On the other hand, some PS4 & X1 games have already hit 50% if not more so, & that’s w/ out the same leap between the 5th & 6th gens.

& it’s only recently that “power” has become so important to the masses. Multiplatting only revved up in the 7th gen, & only after PS3 saw significant price drops & devs better understood its architecture. PS3 was the most powerful 7th gen platform, yet trailed in last place in terms of sales for several years. Why would Nintendo believe that the most powerful console would suddenly prevail in the 8th, especially when Nintendo entered 1st? It didn’t work for Nintendo in the 5th & 6th gens in terms of sales. Didn’t seem to work for Sony last gen until several years in, yet Wii was still #1.

& when consoles, real 1s, depend upon exclusives? I’m glad Nintendo snubbed multiplats & laziness. Nintendo also thought gameplay would still be the main focus. But whether they saw the audiovisual trend or not, I’m glad they didn’t cave to 3rd parties because they forgot what gaming really is.

If anything, Sony & MS are ushering in the age of budget PCs & interactive movies while killing consoles & actual games. I’m surprised Sony & MS haven’t forged a partnership to create a single platform that they & other companies can manufacture much like DVD & Blu-ray players. Maybe this will be the last wave of twins & next gen will feature the master mold. Sony’s finances are not so healthy & the Xbox brand has never turned a profit. MS started killing the console paradigm in the 6th gen, & Sony caved & joined them in the 7th. The 8th gen already proves that “power” & multiplats are most important to the masses, so it only seems logical for them to partner up. After all, there’s always going to be a “weaker” platform. I just wish Nintendo had some console competition.

        4. Just so you know, those 3 cores are capable of executing 6 threads simultaneously, while the 8-core in the others executes 1 thread / core, and 2 of those are reserved for the OS. Not that I disagree with you, Nintendo should have made the system more powerful.

        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Ancient advanced alien technology that is being renewed to once again destroy the unfactual infidels and give rise to the new merciless empire…

  5. Yep. They started work on the Wii U BEFORE the Wii launched. Personally I prefer Nintendos approach. They’d be better off using their capital to hire more developers/purchase other small companies rather than investing in a games market already saturated by the two indentical brands that are Microsoft and Sony.

    1. I could be the next handheld console, one of the QoL hardwares or the famous low-cost console for the Chinese market, surely not the next home console, for that we have to wait until 2017

            1. It ain’t the graphic whores, smashbrolink. It’s the fact that since the Wii U is weaker, developers have to downgrade the graphics and sacrifice all sorts of other things to make their games run the way they want to and they are just not going to do that. Which is also part of the reason the Wii U has no third party support…

              1. They would have to downgrade any game regardless because its already apparent that PS4/X1 itself is not exactly what many thought it would be. You see it not handling or struggling 1080p/60FPS and many devs have done nothing but half assing games with the most sorry ass excuses you’ll ever hear.

              2. Look, I get that the Wii U is weaker in tech.
No one here is denying that.

But it’s ALSO a fact that the system doesn’t need to be as powerful as the other systems in order for third parties to make gorgeous-looking games, if they actually try.
We’ve seen proof of this over and over again; the system is capable of handling great-looking games.
So when people call it too weak to handle good games, I really do gotta call bullshit.

                1. I’m talking about multiplats. The Wii U version isn’t going to look impressive when compared to the PS4 and X1 and no one is going to buy it knowing they can get the better looking version on another console. If the Wii U was actually strong enough to the point where it looked almost identical to the other versions in most games, then it wouldn’t make a difference. Unlike the PS4 and XB1, you can easily see the difference with the Wii U version and it shows how much weaker it is. And that’s not good.

                  1. I know I’m probably going to be in the minority on this one, but it’s my belief that people wouldn’t switch to the Wii U to buy their multiplats even if they DID look identical.

Think about it; people have been buying multiplats on everything but Nintendo consoles for the past 3 or 4 generations now.
At this point, I think it’s fair to say that gamers are set in their ways.
They’re TRAINED into buying them there because that’s their routine. Their “norm”.

The only way that multiplats are going to sell on the Wii U, or any future Nintendo home console, at this point, is by including Wii U exclusive content that makes other console owners WANT to switch.

But I think both you and I know that third parties aren’t going to want to piss off daddy Sony and uncle Microsoft after all the success they’ve had with them, so they aren’t going to do that for Nintendo.
Not even for the sake of building trust in the current Nintendo gamers, so that they’ll buy their multiplats again on the system, let alone drawing new blood in to the system.

At this point, it’s a sad fact that the only thing Nintendo can actually rely upon, is themselves, and exclusives.
Multiplats do more harm than good for Nintendo, and will continue to do so until third parties are willing to take bigger risks with the content included in Nintendo versions.

                    1. Hm… Well personally, I can’t speak for everyone about that. I really don’t know how many people there are in this world that would actually hate Nintendo so much they they refuse to buy any games for their console even if it has the better versions. But I can tell you that I for one would most likely buy most of my games on Nintendo’s systems if they were as good as the other versions. What I would like to see one day is Nintendo getting full third party support for their systems. I’m sure it would make a lot of gamers switch over from other consoles knowing that they can play Nintendo games without having to sacrifice third party games. To be honest, (you can laugh at me if you want) but I actually only wanted the Wii U because I saw all the third party support at launch. I took a chance and got it because I figured the console would finally be the one to fix the whole third party issue. And it WAS looking good until it started missing out on games all of a sudden and then back to the point where it’s basically just a “Nintendo box”. That was extremely disappointing losing all that support. And honestly it just made me furious. I do enjoy Nintendo games, but they aren’t enough to cut it for me. I don’t see the Wii U ever getting back that kind of support so I’ll just let it slide for now. There’s really no point in expecting third party games for it now… But the next Nintendo system BETTER have great third party support. Otherwise, I’m not buying it. I’ve let them off with their mistakes far too many times and I’m not allowing it to happen again. As much as I hate to say it, Nintendo will lose me as a customer if they don’t get it right next generation… :/

                      1. That’s the thing, though; outside of the system specs itself, Nintendo has no control over third party support chances.

The biggest reason third parties have left Nintendo for so long is because Nintendo gamers don’t buy the multiplats, and non-Nintendo gamers don’t switch to Nintendo for them to help support them.
As a general rule, to both, with rare exceptions.

And it won’t change until third parties start making content that differentiates Nintendo’s versions from others.
If the versions that come out for Nintendo’s console are exactly the same as the others next gen, brand loyalty will take precedence, no one will switch to the new system for Multiplats, third party sales will fall again, and they’ll abandon the new system too.

So to say that you’d be ditching Nintendo if THEY don’t fix their third party situation, is basically just a self-fulfilling prophecy, dude.

Nintendo can’t fix their third party woes because they aren’t the ones that have any control over the appeal/differentiating content of the multiplats that hit their systems.

It’s unfair to blame Nintendo, for what is essentially third party’s inability to make games compelling enough to make gamers want to switch to the new system for them.

Graphics aren’t going to be enough to force that kind of change.
Third parties need to step up their content offerings in their multiplats, or others will follow the same path that you’ve already predetermined for yourself.

                        1. Ah, I see. You do make very good points. I’m just frustrated that Nintendo hasn’t been able to get third parties on board. I’m hoping that they can convince third parties to start working on their next system. But unfortunately, it has gotten to that point where I am getting tired of the lack of third party. It doesn’t matter whether Nintendo or third parties themselves are to blame. The point is that if they don’t get those games on the next console, I’m more than likely not going to buy it. I’m not hating on Nintendo or anything but it is really disappointing when I have to buy a second console to cover their mistakes. I’m going to let it slide this time since I’m saving up for a PS4 to go along with the Wii U, but next generation I’m hoping the console can fix most of the issues I have with the Wii U. And it better not be like the Wii U where it loses all of its third party support before it’s even a year old. That drought was absolutely horrendous. I swear I spent like 4 months straight of nothing but internet browser and Miiverse because there was nothing to play. If there’s one thing the Wii U has taught me it’s to never buy Nintendo products again at launch.

                          1. I understand how you feel, because I, too, supported third party games on the Wii U when they were still doing multiplats.

I was a supporter like you, then I took a bad port to the kn-ahem! I mean, then I saw the quality degrade compared to all other versions.[Also, damn you, Skyrim. Why must your mods be so good…]

I do agree that it’s immaterial who’s at fault for Nintendo’s third party woes at this point, but if it must be pointed out, I like to be specific about it, by pointing out cause and effect.XD
As for my time with Wii U, I’ve only spent one single month without a game to play on it, and that was due to a lack of funds, not a lack of wanted titles.[virtual console and indies have kept me quite well saturated.]

I always buy a secondary console as a matter of common sense, because during every single generation after the Gamecube, there hasn’t been a single time where any of the big 3 have offered a flawless console that completely kept me entertained.
Spreading out into becoming a multiplatform gamer is proving to be the smartest move a gamer can make even more than ever this gen, what with slow releases and AAA’s screwing up their own games more and more.

It’s honestly gotten to the point where I cannot put full trust in anything except the games that I already know and trust for their quality.
I try to give new things a try often, but I’ve basically been steering clear of AAA third party games since the release of Ghosts on Wii U.

                            1. Well, I can tell you that the only reason I am really craving third party games is because I NEVER GET TO PLAY THEM. I’ve only owned Nintendo consoles and I have pretty much just sat back and watched all the third party games just pass right by me. It happened all last generation with the Wii and now WOOSH~ The games are flying right over my head yet again with the Wii U… There are countless games that I want for PS3 and the number of games I want just keep growing now that the PS4 is here. I’m literally a generation behind. I’ve always been somewhat attached to Nintendo though. I had the chance to play all those games and get a PS3 but I bought a 3DS instead. 3DS has some fantastic games but I can’t help but think that maybe I should’ve bought that PS3… I’m mad at myself and at Nintendo at the same time. XD But that issue will be fixed eventually since I already have Nintendo systems out of the way. Now all I need to do is save up for a PS4 and I can FINALLY play those games I’ve wanted to for so long!

                              1. Just my personal suggestion, but I’d recommend getting either a PC or PS3 over a PS4.
Either option is going to give you more games than the PS4 has coming, and if you choose a PC then you’ll likely get a ton of the newest multiplats on top of older games.
But if you gotta choose based on price, PS3 all the way.
Look into the Ar Tonelico series, especially.
As someone who fell in love with its music and the comedy of its skits, I can assure you that you won’t be sorry you tried them.

                              2. Oh, but keep in mind that Ar Tonelico 1 and 2 are PS2 games, so you might wanna look for them on that, first, if you can’t find a backwards-compatible PS3.^^;;

                        2. “It ain’t the graphic whores, smashbrolink. It’s the fact that since the Wii U is weaker, developers have to downgrade the graphics and sacrifice all sorts of other things to make their games run the way they want to and they are just not going to do that.”

That didn’t stop publishers from supporting PlayStation, PS2, & Wii.

“Which is also part of the reason the Wii U has no third party support…”

& yet, Wii got many 3rd party exclusives, even what appeared to be new franchises.

Multiplats rule, aye? Why should Nintendo abandon consoles when they can almost single-handedly support the console paradigm w/ a plethora of their own exclusives? Why should Sony & MS make separate platforms when their paradigm is almost entirely dependent on 3rd parties & multiplats?

                  2. I hope so lol I want smooth internet and better options on it. Don’t introduce 8-player smash but be unable to have it online, the only time most people will be able to use it without having a bunch of CPUs. Don’t force us to have limited options in smash online unless playing with friends. Don’t take away voice chat. If people don’t want voice chat, turn it off. I should be able to go online with a friend like you online on another console, and we should be able to team up. That shouldn’t be limited to one console. Shoot I should be able to team up with as many friends online as I want. You should be able to create rooms like in most other online games, not just with friends. SOOOO many ways they dropped the ball AGAIN with smash online. My friends have played playstation all stars and although they like smash better, they said there’s more options in the bootleg game. And the online was smoother with less lag, on a ps3. NO reason a ps3 game online should run smoother than a wii u game.

                    1. I’ve went on Smash Bros Wii U’s Online and was in three matches with me and three other people and believe it or not It only lagged once and that was just for a split second. So Smash Bros Wii U’s internet atleast for me isn’t bad. And I’ve got Frontier which can’t handle more than two systems using internet.

                2. Or how about consoles thats not on par with PC and use the usual “30FPS are best ideals for multiplats” excuse from Ubisoft. Way to think ahead on that one retard. PS4<<<<PC Get it in your head.

              3. Like Paywalls, DRM online services (fuck Origin/Live/Uplay), microtractions, BS free to play models with OP content, no more free online play but paying to play online…

None of those I don’t wanna see in the next console and outsourcing ideas from the greedy and lazy 3rd parties could ultimately ruin Nintendo.

            2. Also they were stupid in not making Wii U games the same year Wii u was in development in 2008. They knew they weren’t experienced with HD because they were too stupid not to put HD in Wii to get that experience for Project Cafe. Smart for Sony and Microsoft to put HD in 360 and PS4 to gain experience for Xboxone and PS4. Yet dumbtendo thought a system more powerful than PS3 was a good idea. Knowing Sony would make a console after PS3.

                1. I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m not mad though. Just don’t understand why Nintendo can’t get up with the times. Other companies know how to get with the times.

              1. If they play their cards right, their next console will be the most powerful system (apart from PCs) in the market for 5-7 years.

            3. If the next console doesn’t fix the third party issue, then you can count me out. I can’t go another generation with only Nintendo games.

              1. Watch. They will make the next gaming console at least catering to those spoiled assholes and they will still turn their backs away because uts Nintendo even if they have completely changed their ways with third parties relationship. They already pissed off the fans this generation and they surely will not forget the fuck ups they’ve done this generation and on. So good luck to them jackasses trying to crawl back…

                1. Lmao I would never do that. That’s what fanboys do. If Nintendo finally got third parties on their console, I would be extremely happy. It’s my main issue I have with them right now and I wish they would fix it as soon as possible. If the next console doesn’t have third party support, well. I’ll be devastated. I’ve already missed games with the Wii and the same is happening now with the Wii U. I can’t allow it to happen a third time. I love Nintendo, but… I just can’t. It’s like in those movies where they say “I’m sorry. It’s not you… It’s me.” *walks away* :(
But that won’t happen now will it? NOPE! Nintendo will release the brand new Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System with Super Mario Galaxy 3, Metroid Prime HD Collection, The Legend of Zelda [Insert Subtitle Here], Grand Theft Auto 6, Super Smash Bros Melee 2 (lmao), and of course they will also launch with Nintendo 64 titles remastered in full HD along with downloadable Gamecube games. And it will sell over 5 million units launch week and everyone will be talking about it. How amazing it is. How Nintendo has revolutionized gaming once again. And how it is the best Nintendo console EVER! …Who are we kidding? That’s never going to happen. XD

                  1. I dont want certain assholes tainting the platform and cheating the fans money with obvious cash-in only garbage. EA, Ubisoft and maybe Activision should never come back. Nintendo can find other, better partners/friends to work with.

                    1. NO. That would dig Nintendo’s platform straight into its own grave. Don’t you know how many people play those games? If the next Nintendo console doesn’t have them, it’s going to be considered irrelevant before it even releases. You’re supposed to have all the big name third party developers making games for your console. And then Nintendo’s console would sell well which would result in Nintendo fans getting even more games. You have to remember that it is not just EA, Ubisoft, and Activision. There are other third parties out there that are carefully watching to see which platform might be suitable for their next game. And believe me, they are not going to make games for a failing console. Nintendo loses the big name third parties, and they lose everyone else. That’s how it works.

                        1. They can, but they’re going to lose a lot of respect and potential fans. The Wii was a massive success but that console horribly ruined Nintendo’s image to the point where you’re almost guaranteed to get laughed at if you mention it in a conversation. And the situation is so bad that some people avoid Nintendo products entirely because they’re “kiddy”. Putting the name Wii in Nintendo’s brand new console was a huge mistake. Anything BUT Wii would’ve been a better choice. Nintendo might’ve been successful with the console, but it backfired so hard. They should’ve just accepted the victory and moved on instead of trying to milk the success one last time. But they messed up. Now whenever you talk about Nintendo, the main thing that comes to people’s minds is “underpowered, kiddy, rehash”. I think the situation would’ve been a WHOLE lot different if Nintendo actually made something to compete with PS3 and 360 back then instead of the Wii. But that’s what happens when you alienate your core fans. You pay the price. They’re trying to make up for it now with the Wii U but it’s far too late now. EVERYONE basically knows Nintendo now for making “kiddy” games.

                          1. Oh fucking please! Getting riddiculed by the same underaged and ill-intellegent hypocrites who play violent games to crave their insane sensation to kill with guns and then go ahead and do it when the excuse and time is right? Give me a violin to play please.

                            1. XD *hands violin* But seriously though. It’s true. You will indeed be laughed at for bringing up the Wii in a video game conversation. I know from personal experience.

Muramasa the Demon Blade (hey, a multiplat)

Castle of Shikigami III (another multiplat)

Heatseeker (explaining the surprisingly responsive nunchuck/flight stick controls)

Samurai Warriors 3 (though Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes was cooler, but it too was on Wii [another multiplat], so yeah)

                                    1. Oh, I’m sure there are plenty more, yet those are from my collection. But as mainstream & casual as the Wii is portrayed, I found that to be false. Just like Ninty & 3rd party support: from Super NES all the way to Wii, each of my collections has more 3rd party games than 1st/2nd.

As for Wii U, it’s appalling how much 3rd parties have strayed, but my indie collection there still exceeds 1st party. Even Game Boy to Advance & DS to 3DS, only my original GB collection has more 1st party games, in fact only 1st party. Internet just wasn’t available to me back then & I lived in a small town, so I couldn’t research games or order from Amazon or EBGames let alone get to an actual store. But my collections & knowledge certainly exploded starting w/ GBA & GCN. & yeah, I graduated high school shortly before GCN launched & dedicated most of my waking hours to gaming. Aside from PSOne to sustain me ’til GCN launched & Saturn I got after Super NES, it’s always been Ninty hardware & mostly 3rd parties.

                                    2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

xD Then I will laugh at those fucking ignorant imbeciles as I mention a plethora of 3rd party games that were mature or not exactly made for children, similar to what pother did. Only the ignorant would laugh at you for mentioning the Wii.

                            2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Yes because Electronic Assholes, Ubishit, & Activision are the biggest & most important 3rd parties on the planet and not having them would doom every console! lmfao I didn’t know you were a comedian, Hollow!

                              1. Do you not realize how many people play EA, Ubisoft, and Activision games? You think I’m just making this up? Go look at the sales that Call of Duty makes every year. Go look at the sales of Fifa. Go look at the sales of Assassin’s Creed. My point exactly.

                                1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

lol So? I guarantee you if those 3 companies went to shit & all got utterly obliterated, I guarantee you the industry would still move on. After all, there are other companies just WAITING to take their place. Especially when it comes to EA with their sports games. 2K is one such company that can easily pick up where EA fucked up.

                                2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Then there is Konami who can easily make their own FPS games that can easily replace the void that Activision leaves behind if they fell into oblivion. As for Ubisoft, ha ha ha!

                  2. My thoughts on what Nintendo needs to focus on for their new system.

                    1) cloud…cloud saves, cloud saves for amiibo, a NFC card to log into your unified account. Cloud boosted graphics.

                    2) game streaming – make a gamepad that can actualy work any ware without the system. Give it its own small app store and let users stream their games to the gamepad. Add support streaming to your handheld (what ever comes after the 3DS) let users stream games from their system at home. Or rent games and stream like Netflix/onlive

                    3) more games with online modes. I get that Nintendo is all about family and freinds spending time with each other. But its 2015 and while people still play side by side. They need to get with the times and relize that a lot of gamers would buy their products if only they had online gameplay. Mario 3D land…missed opportunity.

                    4) new updated versions of all their controls. New versions of the Wii remote, nunchuck, gamepad, classic controller, fit board. Again its 2015 and technology has gotten much better.

                    5) more apps – of course I want games first, but I want my system to be used at any excuse. YouTube, Netflix, painting, Skype, Kahn academe, exe. Great apps can be made, reach out to devs, help them migrate big apps to the system and the small stuff well come.

                    6) x86 another get with the times item. Its cheaper to port from Xbox to PS because their both x86 it took months to port watchdogs to Wii U cus its power PC.

                    7) amiibo and animated movies are a good start, but don’t stop their. Keep going. Nintendo can do so much with the NFC tech, toys are just the beginning. Animated shorts are great but go a step further. Make a few series on Netflix or adult swim. Make a movie too.

                    8) more T and M rated games. People trunk that no one buys third party on Nintendo, but that’s not true, how ever if Nintendo only makes E rated games, then the dedicated Nintendo fans well only buy E rated games. In other words customers buy third party changes that reminds them of the first party stuff. If not they would go buy an Xbox. in most cases they do. Soooo if people are buying a Nintendo system for M rated games (like a M rated metroid, star fox, Zelda, eternal darkness, or some new IP like bayoneta) then people who buy M rated games will buy a Nintendo system…which fallows by people buying T or M rated third party. Its all tied together. You see how many systems sold from just having online in Mario kart, M rated bayoneta 2, and online/T rated smash bros boosted sales? Well DERP!!! imagine that.

                  3. While I think Nintendo will be first out of the gate in releasing its next console, because I think it does acknowledge that the Wii U hasn’t performed according to expectations, none of this seems particularly unusual to me. There’s a tremendous amount of resources and planning that goes into making a console, and console-makers pretty much get to work on it not long after the current one gets released.

I think Nintendo will release a console in the shortest amount of time possible without pissing off fans and consumers in general who invested in the Wii U. I also think Nintendo needs to cater to it’s strengths. I think the Wii U is a fantastic social/party console, and Nintendo really shouldn’t lose sight of that (it’s about social gaming, not casual gaming). I also like how Nintendo has been forging some strong partnerships with Japanese developers, and I think it should carve out a niche for itself as the go-to console for the best japanese games. More than anything, Nintendo needs to shed its kiddie image. What Nintendo’s marketing team doesn’t seem to realize, but seems immediately obvious to me, is that kids always want what the “bigger kids” want. If you want to market to little kids, market to the big kids (teenagers and young adults) first, and the little kids will take notice. You don’t need to market to parents either because kids will make the sales pitch to them on your behalf. If I were Nintendo, I would just ignore parents and kids, even if I desperately wanted them to buy my console. This is because videogame consoles are suppose to be cool, yet nobody associates being a “little kid” and a parent with being cool. You have to market to them indirectly. Nintendo shouldn’t be marketing to parents as parents, but rather “who you used to be when you were still cool.” They shouldn’t be marketing to little kids as little kids, but rather “the big kid you’re trying to prove that you are”.

And they’ve also seriously dropped the ball on marketing to college kids and single people who still have active social lives. Again, Wii U is hands down the best party console (it’s got Mario Kart!), and furthermore, if you want a girl to play video games with you, Nintendo is your best bet. Your typical girl doesn’t generally go for the fps garbage that M$hit and Sony have, nor does she want to watch you and your friends play it. Nintendo has left so many markets untapped, is catering to the wrong markets or catering to them in the wrong way, and over all has just fucked things up, that they are running out of chances to set things right.

Nintendo does need a console that’s about as powerful as the others, but it’s major weakness has been and continues to be its marketing strategy. I hope they figure their shit out sooner rather than later.

                      1. Is it their marketing team the problem. 3Ds is hardly advertised and its passed 50 million. Problem is they were too dumb in not thinking 2015 back in 2008.

                        1. And the advertising for the Wii U??? At least here in the U.K, is absolutely pathetic, literally 1 or 2 per year. I haven’t even seen a Mario Kart 8 or a Smash Bros for Wii U advert…

                        2. I think the difference is that the Wii U is not just under-advertised, but also advertised in a way that cannibalizes its brand. Some of us just want Nintendo to be more like M$hit and Sony. To them I say fuck off. But for those of you who love Nintendo but roll your eyes at every Nintendo commercial (granted, some have been passable as of late), you probably know what I’m talking about. Brand is all about identity. We identify with the console but not the way it’s being presented. For those otherwise unfamiliar with the console, the presentation is all they have to go on. This is the problem, generally speaking.

                        3. And looking at 2015 is almost no different than PC from 2009. PC is already miles ahead of your so called “powerful consoles” because their possibilities and upgrading are almost limitless.

                      2. Marketing and Advertsing is the biggest flaw of Nintendo. I love the Wii U, but the fact that the name still confuses people is a massive problem, they wanted to have the U in the name, then why not take a step back and use the Wii prototype name-Revolution, but called in the RevolUtion…

                          1. Revoultion with a capital U. If you think about it, casual parents don’t know that Revoultion was the Wii’s prototype name, so why not???

                        1. To change the name of the system now would be suicidal. But I don’t think it would hurt to tweak the logo. Perhaps put the “U” part underneath and increase its size two or three times. Then take the “Wii” part and flatten it a little as to make it less prominent.

                          1. I was thinking more like calling it RevolUtion in the first place, that way, the name confusion wouldn’t be a n issue…

                              1. They should’ve called it “The HollowGrapeJ” It would’ve sold 20 million units launch day alone with that name.

                                  1. No it wouldn’t. Because developers would love the name so much that they will make every game available on the platform…

                                    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Compared to the Golden Age, it is…

Specially sine you and the rest of this cattle generation cannot take a single little challenge that’s offered…

                                      1. Do you even know the definition of fun? It depends on the person. What you think is fun is not what I think is fun. It has nothing to do with being a “cattle”. You enjoy Metroid, right? Well, I don’t. It is simply an opinion. You don’t have to place me on a lower pedestal just because I don’t play your favorite games. It doesn’t make me any less of a gamer than you are. If you enjoy difficult and extremely hard games then fine. That’s you. But I don’t enjoy that. It’s not for me.

                                        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

You can like whatever you want, what I don’t like is when you guys demand easier games all over the place complaining about how difficult games are…

Like Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, many complained that the game was too hard for them and so they lowered the difficulty in the Trilogy version…

If it’s hard then learn to play or get out of its presence if we are going to go by your terms…

                                          1. Well, I’m not one of those people. If the game is too hard, I’m not going to be an idiot and purchase it willingly knowing that I’m not going to have fun with it. The games should not just be mind numbingly difficult. They should create a hard mode for hardcore gamers such as yourself and create an easier mode for gamers that do not prefer it. Not one way or the other. It is the reason that I have not bought F-Zero and I will likely not buy the next game (if there ever is one) either if it is just as difficult as the ones before. Like I said, if F-Zero ever does come out, they should make a hard mode where it’s just as hard as before and an easier mode. One where it would be suitable for gamers like me. If you’re not happy with the save system in Majora’s Mask 3D, then how about you just not buy it? If it’s too easy then why even bother? My point exactly. You are more than likely still going to buy the game and its not changing anything.

                                            1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Yes finally something I agree with you on when it comes to this topic and which I’ve been saying since the GCN era…

Put difficulty settings in all games again as it was in the old days!

This is the number one thing Zelda needs…

                                                1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

No, hero mode is a useless attempt for gamers like me…

Hero Mode is like the Hard Mode for gamers that are not good at gaming…

Hard Mode makes the enemies harder, many and more intelligent…

                                                  1. So Hero mode isn’t actually hard? It’s just the same thing except they take away your hearts and give enemies extra life? Lol.

                                                    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

And fun is when I can play any game all out and getting a challenge from my opponents…

You have no idea how many civilian friends I used to have that sucked so bad I had to lower my gameplay by 90% to equal their standards…

Plus faking having fun was even more boring…

And most of them called themselves good at gaming, what a joke…

                                                    2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Echoes was easier in the Metroid Prime Trilogy!? o.O I thought it felt a little easier than the original on the GCN.

                                                    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Partially but mostly that the games would be even easier than today since the majority of these new so called gamers don’t like any challenge whatsoever…

                                  2. Seems obivous, I think the best way for Nintendo to convince Third Parties to support Nintendo’s next console, is for Nintendo to make a Non-Gimmick controller, maybe like the Gamecube Controller, or the Pro Controller, that way, there can’t whine and complain that they hve to make a use for the controller’s gimmick…

                                    1. To a certain extent 3rd parties are responsible for lazy ports. However, the Wii U has significantly less RAM than XB1 and PS4.

                                  3. Welp, here I am to say “I told you so” in the faces of all the idiots on this site who said I was stupid to say Wii U would flop miserably.

Now you all can see how idiotic and blind you were, just being stupid fanboys.

And I’m here to also predict that if Nintendo continue to “not pay attention to what the ‘other guys’ are doing”, the same thing will happen again and again. Because those “other guys”? Sony and MS? They’re trouncing Nintendo in market share; they’re obviously doing something right that Nintendo NEEDS to suck it up and pay attention to.

                                    You don’t know everything, Nintendo.

                                  4. I’m calling it, Nintendo Direct near the end of the year will be when Nintendo unveils their new console. Nintendo has stated they’ll release their new system when they feel They’ve satisfied the Wii U owners and unless a game doesn’t get delayed or a release date of 2016, That’ll be the year of Nintendo’s new system. and before you say I’m going off of the AMD report, I’m not I’m going off of how Nintendo home consoles life cycles are normally. Which is normally four years, the Original Wii being the exception.
