Club Nintendo Set To Discontinue, New Rewards Programme To Launch Later This Year

Nintendo has announced its worldwide rewards programme Club Nintendo will be shut down later this year. In a bid to soften the blow to its loyalty members, the company will be replacing Club Nintendo with another rewards programme, which is set to launch during 2015. Both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe Club Nintendo divisions say they will add a number of physical reward items for members in February and the coming months.

Club Nintendo members in the US and Canada will be able to earn additional coins until March 31 and can redeem those coins until June 30 on downloadable games and physical software. All products released after January 20 in the region will not be eligible for registration with Club Nintendo. Those members still looking to earn elite status must earn 300 coins for Gold or 600 coins for Platinum between July 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015. Elite status gifts will be available between April 1 and April 30, 2015.

For those on the other side of the pond in Europe, though, members must redeem their stars on products before they expire on September 30, 2015. Nintendo of Europe will discontinue pin codes from any new packaged software from April 1, and will terminate all digital software registration from April 20.

Please remember that all coins or stars not redeemed by June 30 for US and Canadian members and September 30 for European members will be deleted or expire. You must use them before this date as they cannot be transferred to the new rewards programme.

“We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

      1. …I was 12 when the DS came out. The DS codes still work. Almost all of my codes are that of Wii and DS. GC and GBA obviously won’t since they kinda aren’t in retail anymore…

          1. Weird. Mine still work. I’ve been putting them in off and on through the year. Just put in a ds and wii code now to test and it worked just fine. Both of them were older than NSMBWii too.

      1. Jokes on you xD The codes are only duds up until the DS. The DS and systems after that still work. You need to get your facts straight before you try to troll lolol.

  1. plus it triggers the release of something outside of Japan been waiting for, Flipnote Stuido 3d after 16 months of hush on the mater

  2. I want to feel bad for everyone who enjoys Club Nintendo, but as Scandinavia have no service like that, I’m kind of glad fans all over the world are getting treated equally! For better or worse…

    1. Hey fatass, not only that nobody fucking cares about you not getting club Nintendo, ANOTHER rewards program is going to be opening in 2015. How about you READ for once you CUNT.

  3. That was just…. dumb.
What a terrible way to say “thank you” to your clients Nintendo.
They should at least put some decent software as rewards. Instead, they offer games that already were in the promotion a few months ago and most people probably already got them.
And why not give loyal clients something of a glimpse about the new rewards program? Os at least convert all Nintendo Club members automatically to the new program?
    That´s really, really dissapointing.

    1. “If we succeed in the redefinition of video game platforms that I speak of today, our account-based connections with consumers will become very clear. For example, until now it has been taken for granted that software is offered to users at the same price regardless of how many titles they purchase in a year, be it one, five or even ten titles. Based on our account system, if we can offer flexible price points to consumers who meet certain conditions, we can create a situation where these consumers can enjoy our software at cheaper price points when they purchase more. Here, we do not need to limit the condition to the number of software titles they purchase. Inviting friends to start playing a particular software title is also an example of a possible condition. If we can achieve such a sales mechanism, we can expect to increase the number of players per title, and the players will play our games with more friends. This can help maintain the high usage ratio of a platform. When one platform maintains a high active use ratio, the software titles which run on it have a higher potential to be noticed by many, which leads to more people playing with more titles. When we see our overall consumers, they generally play two or three titles per year. We aim to establish a new sales mechanism that will be beneficial to both consumers and software creators by encouraging our consumers to play more titles and increasing a platform’s active use ratio without largely increasing our consumers’ expenditures.
Nintendo aims to work on this brand-new sales mechanism in the medium term, but we would like to start experimenting with Wii U at an early stage.” – Iwata

    1. I’m more of a Nintendo fan than a Sony fan, but seriously, Sony’s club destroys Club Nintendo. I can only hope they take a page out of their playbook and work towards emulating it with whatever they do next.

  5. Please, Nintendo, let this be a worldwide loyalty program unlike Club Nintendo. I’ve been looking forward to use on this ever since I heard they were bringing out a new loyalty program to replace Club Nintendo.

  6. They’re CLOSING THE CLUB NINTENDO REWARDS PROGRAM? Seriously? I finally get over 2,000 coins (and even register my niece on Club Nintendo, and helped her reach Platinum Status), and there’s nothing to redeem my final coins for? I feel so ripped off and cheated. Will Club Nintendo even exist anymore? What will the point of it be now? Does this mean there will be no Platinum Status reward for 2015? I reached Platinum earlier than ever this time, and was wondering what the reward would be. *sigh*

And no, I will NOT use my coins on digital games. Those are out of the question.

  7. Does this mean we have to use up our points on the crummy rewards CN has up now before the closure date? Would we lose what points we have remaining?
I’ve been saving mine for when those Animal Crossing pouches or something really good comes back, I don’t want to be pressured into getting something I don’t want if they aren’t going to carry over.

    1. From NoA’s official website: All Coins will be deleted when Club Nintendo accounts are closed on July 1, 2015.

The same goes for Stars on Club Nintendo Europe, where they will expire and be deleted if not redeemed on rewards by September 30.

            1. Elite Status gifts (from NoA) will be available for members who reach such status between April 1 and April 30 – as stated in the article.

I assume this is what you’re referring to. :)

  8. Do anyone knows if Kirby Rainbow Curse will have nintendo point? They said games AFTER the 20 of february would not be elligible, but he is released on the 20th.

  9. So….I hope these final rewards are cheap and REALLY nice, because Nintendo would need to get rid of ALL of the Club Nintendo stock.

  10. Wow!
It was quite obvious that they would end it “lack of rewards, shift of focus to digital downloads, games being offered to the elites instead of feelies”

I am grateful for what I got from it.

  11. So it looks like that article I sent in a long time ago was legit after all, too bad it was rejected as false. Doesn’t seem so wrong, makes complete sense why they didn’t renew the Club Nintendo trademark now.

I hope its replacement is much better.

  12. 2015 Elite Status

In order to reach Elite Status, you must earn 300 Coins (for Gold Status) or 600 Coins (for Platinum Status) between July 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. Members who reach Elite Status will be able to choose a downloadable game from a wide selection of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles. Your free Elite Status gift will be available between April 1 and April 30, 2015. A list of the Elite Status 2015 gifts will be posted here once announced.

Elite status member will be getting a downloadble game that’s some bullshit considering how much time I put in those serveys. N all the nintendo products I buy. I don’t wanna hear “oh what are you complaining about nintendo doesn’t have to do this”…….. it’s called customer service and appreciation in order to keep the loyalty of the customer. None of those items are free you’ve either paid for them or have some TIME consuming servey to fill out.

    1. Kind of a bummer. I can’t imagine they can throw anything out there as a free game that I don’t already have at this point. I was really hoping for some kind of exclusive amiibo repaint.

  13. I have 2000 coins and US Club Nintendo is so stripped down… I’ve been saving for new physical rewards. Instead I got the shaft. It wouldn’t be Nintendo if they didn’t find a way to fuck me over. :/

    1. “we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

  14. I wanna lay a HUGH shit on nintendo fat slanted eyes face I have +3400 coins saved up just to get a fucking spider ring or some gimmic bullshit physical item. Or here’s a downloadble game you have already purchased thank you and sayonara Nintendo of the World .Fucking Faggots.

  15. 600 coins to get elite status that’s over 600 dollars worth of shit the least they could do is have exclusives titles or games you won’t be able to download without being an elite member like n 64 games or wii titles. But no they put stuff on there I have and proly most of you have purchased.

  16. It’s funny how I sent this in to mnn back in November…thanks for the credit guys always good to see some honorable journalism going on.

    1. Not everything that gets sent to us in news tips get published, however the three of us here try to give MNN readers credit whenever and wherever it’s due. If you do send in a news tip you shall be thanked, and if we’ve forgotten just tell us nicely in the comment section. :)

  17. It was about time tbh…Club Nintendo had been lacking greatly for the past 2-3 years now really ever since they started offering game downloads. The idea was cool and all until they kept offering the same game over and over until they started to become tiring…honestly I love physical rewards more than downloads, kinda got you hyped to order something completely free and have you wait by your mailbox for it.

But in the past few years…its just been terrible, literally nothing to choose from or that you could choose because mostly everything was out if stock or simply they weren’t as impressive as rewards in other countries. I hope the new rewards program promises something different and fair for everyone else. And I’ve been in Club Nintendo since 2007.

      1. Hooray for you that posted this! I’m quite interested to see how it will work. I hope they won’t give you discounts on games in the eshop tough… That’s something for their next consoles with more internal storage. I would love it if they gave you more and more credit per game you register.

But who knows. Maybe it’s also a step in to start linking purchases to your Nintendo Network ID. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. They could at the same time launch a Nintendo App for smart phones where you van acces Miiverse, Nintendo éshop, friendlists etc. Would be cool if notifications were also pulled to your phone so you can message someone trough the Wii U but he also gets the message on his phone for faster and easier messaging during gaming.

Or being able to use the NFC on the gamepad to beam screenshots to your phone so you can access Miiverse quicker trough your phone. That way you can open the app. Type a question/answer and you can just tap it to the gamepad from the home screen to get the image on your phone and quickly post it.

        /daydream done. :P

        1. Probably only digital rewards simply because they would lose money from physical game reductions. I don’t like digital games but I’ll happily take eshop credit, there’s plenty of gems on the eshop I haven’t bothered with being on there.

      2. I think their first priority in this regard should be lowering the prices of their digital games to be less than the physical edition. Their reasoning that the “contents are the same” is silly. So the packaging and physical disc itself cost nothing?

  20. Only Nintendo could conceive of a free customer rewards program, which they are under no obligation to run, that could anger fans as much as Club Nintendo. I look forward to seeing what’s next… but, based on what things have been like with CN these last couple years, I’m not terribly optimistic. I will say this, the Digital Deluxe Program was AWESOME and I don’t think they get nearly enough credit for it.

  21. All my Club Nintendo coins just ended up disappearing despite me not spending any of them. It won’t matter anyway by March.

Well I won’t be reaching Platinum status this year. Fuck! Only 130 coins to Platinum status! And it would have been my 3rd Platinum 3 years in a row, too! The damn codes should still be released in games at least til late March, Nintendo! They need to quit letting fucking morons make decisions.
