Best Buy Has Begun Cancelling Majora’s Mask New Nintendo 3DS Orders And Giving Out $50 Gift Card For Inconvenience

A number of you have contacted me to say that Best Buy have canceled your New Nintendo 3DS Majora’s Mask edition consoles. The issue is is that it’s affecting those who only pre-ordered one system. As compensation the retailer has started to issue a $50 gift card as a way of saying sorry. It’s not clear why, but I’d assume they took too many pre-orders and don’t have the stock to fulfill them.

We’re sorry but there is an issue with your pre-order. The popularity of Nintendo 3DS XL Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Limited Edition Gold/Black exceeded the quantities made available to Best Buy. As a result, we are unable to fulfill all of the pre-orders received. We regret that your particular order has been canceled and we know that this is disappointing. We want to make it up to you by offering a $50 discount that may be used towards the purchase of one of these alternate options, or other products on BestBuy.com:

Thanks to all those who sent this in.

    1. the console is with 500 dlls on amazon, so…. nope I’m still upset even if they gave me 100 dlls gift card, that system was for my brother, and I had already told him I got him one, now he almost cried.

  1. Yo Nintendo I swear to go you better make more N3DS XL MM, so MANY people are dying to get one, me included if you haven’t that figured out by now. So many Zelda die hard fans, so few N3DS XL MM, what the fuck is wrong with you.

Unless Majora’s Mask pulled a Resident Evil 5/6 by changing the gameplay drastically to the point it’s another game *cough*COD*cough*, I honestly don’t see what’s your problem with Majora’s Mask. Don’t tell me you’re one of those people that hated the time limit for some silly reason.

Wow. And this came after Best Buy canceled any extra preorders from people that preordered more than one New 3DS Majora’s Mask edition. So first Best Buy screws over the scalpers (which was the right thing to do) only to screw over the non scalpers, too (which was the wrong thing to do.)

OH for fuck sakes! This comment is supposed to be to the article, not to another comment! Mrgrgr! Ignore this!

  2. I don’t get it… Why release a limited edition model right alongside the brand spanking new version? Won’t it be smarter to release it later on?

    1. Let’s be honest here, this was a marketing disaster made by Nintendo altogether, it’s not any of the retailers fault for what they’ve been doing.

What in their small noodles did Nintendo think it was a GREAT idea to release a brand new system along with TWO limited editions next to their really lame red 3DS and the usual black one?

Did they not stop and think…”whoa wait…why would I get this lame plain colored NEW 3DS when I can get the SPECIAL edition one that almost no one will be able to get, so that will make me look cooler?” Ugh I really hate how they mishandled this…there should have been much more control on distributing these limited edition systems but their big fat mistake was releasing them all at the same time.

It used to be: “We’re going to launch a new system with regular colors and then we’ll release the limited editions later on” not “release ALL 4 OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME.”

When OoT:3D released back in 2011, there wasn’t a limited edition 3DS system to go along with the game at the time, that happened 5 months later by releasing the 25th Zelda anniversary 3DS that was even bundled with the physical game altogether. It was probably the best 3DS bundle ever made and the timing was perfect for the holiday season that year. There was CONTROL and it was the first special edition 3DS to be sold to the public.

All Nintendo had to do was wait…wait and be fucking patient about releasing a system like the MM edition or the MH4U editions. Why was there a rush to begin with? Were they trying to capitalize on the scalping hype? Because all it did was make more people frown with disappointment. Especially those who are still recovering from the holiday season.

Happy freaking Valentine’s Day to everyone.

      1. And the irony just feeds itself…

If they had waited and had patience, the same idiots would complain on why High Command didn’t release any special editions to go with those games…

That’s how you humans work, complain about anything just to feel like you have some purpose in your misreable cattle lives…

      2. I am personally buying the Red XL. The Majoras Mask one should be purple and black, or green. Not gold. And I don’t like the MH4 one either. So I think your reasoning is a little off. Not everybody likes the special editions.

        1. It’s a nice simple design right? Plus, be honest, would you want to take something as precious as the MM 3DS and be worried about the gem being stolen? You’d have no worries with a normal one.

      3. Actually that was good on their part, imagine buying the red or black 3ds xl and 1 month later a sparkling limited edition comes out, wouldn’t you feel like they really pulled a sony on you? the problem was they made like 10 consoles for all north america, they should have made virtually unlimited, everyone who preordered should have gotten one, no limits. they could have just produced more and gave them on march or even april, I would have waited till june for that system.

        1. No, I wouldn’t be bothered about that reasoning at all tbh. Release a special 3ds a month later or two after buying a normal one? I already done that and all I did was trade in the other one and paid a tiny difference, it was worth it in my opinion so no I wouldn’t be angry at that logic at all.

And the keyword here is “limited edition”…you know they won’t simply let it drag on for months, every limited product has a number of how many will be produced, when that number is filled, that’s it. No more will be made no matter what.

People just need to be smarter, I’m not going to own a New 3DS at some point just because it looks pretty, I also want to wait it out until more games are announced for it because up to right now there’s not really much to be excited about, except a remake of Xenoblade that came out for the Wii.

  3. Ended up with the $50. Gonna just get one of the Black New 3DS Systems, import a crystal cover and a MM decal, and Best Buy can go shove their store up their derrière. I swear, if I ever buy anything from Best Buy again, I’ll never forgive myself. They already screwed me over once, and now they screw me over when I give them a second shot. I’m done.

  4. I think you can totally blame Best Buy here. I had the option of getting one from a number of retailers, because i jumped on them as soon as they went up. I chose to put my trust in best buy, and they botched the whole thing. now it’s way too late to get another. I don’t want $50 off a regular one. I want the one they committed to sell to me as per THE PRE ORDER

      1. gave it to my sister. its not about the money. i don’t care about money. they committed to provide a product and took away my chance to buy from a retailer who wasn’t going to screw me

    1. Dude, you can get a brand new 3ds XL for $149.00 now. If you trade in your old XL you could literally get a New 3ds Xl for $49.00. You might be upset, but I wish I could get a new 3ds for under fifty bucs.

      1. In fact, I would have pre-ordered one if I knew they would give me fifty bucs! Thats a lot of money to get just for a cancelled pre-order. It’s unheard of actually..

  5. This absolutely pissed me off to no end when I saw the email this morning. 50 bucks is nice and ill get the regular one for cheaper now, but that console was going to have some insane sentimental value to me because Majoras mask is basically my childhood. To not have this 3ds really pisses me off still, and I feel that I was still quite a bit screwed by this whole thing. Nontendo should have made this console available to a lot more people here in the US and I feel that they are ultimtely the one to blame. But what pisses me off the most is that I preordered my console not even an hour after they went up for preorder at best buy. What the heck?

  6. For those of you who got cancelled. CALL IN TO BEST BUY and Complain. I don’t think this was unintentional to send emails over the weekend, honestly I believe that the CEOs will come in Monday and see what the outcome of the weekend complaints, if the number is high enough they may pull strings with nintendo and get a second run of Majora’s Mask 3DS Consoles, perhaps even do like ToysRus and send codes to order ONE? So Please call them 1 (888) 237-8289

    1. On hold with customer service, the guy im speaking to seems like he has no idea what im talking about, very dissatisfying.
