Gold Mario Amiibo Sold Out In 15 Minutes On Walmart Website

mario_gold_amiibo

Bad news for those of you who were unable to get your pre-order in as the Walmart exclusive Gold Mario amiibo has completely sold out on the website. The high sought after figure was only available for around 15 minutes and then promptly sold out. Let’s hope that more become available on the website at a later date or alternatively you’ll be able to pick one up in store on the day.

Thanks, Rubberyen

        1. So did I but I saw somewhere else they were doing them this morning, and I sent the link to sickr and I even mentioned it in the DKC VC article but by the time anybody saw it was sold out :(

          1. The funny thing is, I made a mistake too. I said I’m, but it should have been I. Also, I don’t need to swear, to prove a point. Alright???

              1. No one likes an unnecessary arguement, neither do I. That being said, I should have stopped myself from replying to the guy, but what’s done, is done, lesson learned.
Let’s just stop this arguement right here. Good Day…Or Night, depending on where you live……

    1. Donkey Kong Country trilogy is only for the Wii U so a no go for me as I got rid of my Wii U. I would have liked it on my 3DS though.

  2. Honestly, who didn’t expect this? Really? It literally screamed “more rare than any amiibo”. “Scalpers, Take me!” I’m surprised it took as long as it did. 5 minutes sounded about right…

  3. Who cares? Does anyone even collect these things anymore? I gave up worrying about buying amiibos the first few weeks they launched and they were impossible to find, at least for recommended retail value.

It’s easier to just not buy any amiibos people. They don’t really do anything.

    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Amiibos are not meant for collections and if some of you treats Amiibos like that then that’s your own funeral…

      1. Then what are they for? Obviously they are not for playing with because they aren’t necessary for gameplay at all.

Disney Infinity got it right. Nintendidnt.

        1. Disney Infinity did not get them right at all. I love Disney Infinity, but charging $35 for two characters, exclusive items, and an environment skin is a little much. The problem with Disney Infinity are the blind power disk packs they sell and the fact you have to buy characters for specific, rare items. You’ll buy 10 packs and still not get what you want. Thankfully in 2.0 you could buy character exclusive items in game with points. Of course this is all to make money, but that doesn’t justify it. The Play sets are pretty good bang for their buck especially since I bought all mine for $20 on sale. Still Disney is getting over on people.

        2. They’ve got more value to them than Skylanders does.
Functionality across multiple games makes them pay for themselves several times over.
That’s more than enough reason to be used for playing with.

And that’s not even counting how useful they are as opponents in Smash when there’s no one around to play against.

          1. When it comes to the “multiple game” functionality, all it is is just skins or bonuses, essentially it’s the same thing as streetpass bonuses on 3DS games but for the Wii U at a cost. As a collector’s item they sort of work….but visually they aren’t all very well detailed or modeled, I’m primarily referring to the idiotic blue, yellow and white blocks of ice they have to put down on each figure to keep them standing; they visually take away from the figure, detracting from the overall view, if you look at Disney Infinity figures or Skylanders they’re either put in poses where something like that isn’t needed, or the support is added with something visually pleasing, like a weapon or something related to the base of the figure. And when it comes down to value on the ones ridiculously hard to find, most notably the holy trinity, the horseman of the apocalypse and Little Mac, is the 3-5 times you’re going to pay for the figure that you plan on using for bonuses really worth it? With Disney Infinity and Skylanders the exclusives or hard to come by chase figures are made in a high enough stock that you can walk into your local store within the month of their release to obtain them, as with amiibos you have to fight your way onto websites within the quickest amount of time months prior, pushing your way through scalpers wallets in order to get the ones you want. I’d say that the lack of effort and cash required for Skylanders and Disney infinity figures is a hell of a lot more valuable then everything that you have to waste on amiibos for some streetpass bonuses, but hey that’s just my opinion. I don’t own many of the 3 series of figures myself, but I can say that my amiibo just kinda sit on my shelf next to my 90s McDonalds nintendo toys collecting dust unlike my skylanders that sit next to my family’s portal and TV dust free from being played with daily….

            1. No, it’s not just “Skins and bonuses”.
For Hyrule Warriors, it unlocks an entirely new weapon for Link and guarantees a level 3 weapon for Zelda, in addition to other figures allowing for high-grade materials and lots of Rupees, which you can quite literally never have enough of, with all the upgrading and leveling your warriors need.

And, again, Smash makes incredible use of Amiibos.

And those are only the tip of the iceberg; Mario Party 10 makes use of them, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse gives you an overpowered ability spam for a level, heck it’s even been confirmed that the Shulk Amiibo will be used to gain tokens that will be used in unlocking new music and figurines in Xenoblade 3DS.

The uses are widely varied across many titles, and because of this, they pay for themselves many times over, unlike Disney Infinite.

I’ve gotten FAR more than my 12 bucks worth out of my Shulk and Link figurines so far, and both are really nice to look at.
They don’t gather a speck of dust in my house, and neither will the Zelda Amiibo I’m planning on getting soon.

      2. Right now they are far more valuable as a collectors item than an in-game anything. They haven’t done much of anything with them in games but costumes, weapons, and fighters (in smash). And anything can be meant to be collected lol.

        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Doesn’t mean people have to get butthurt and bash Nintendo just because they didn’t complete their collection…

There are always winners and losers…

Or the third group like I belong to, that doesn’t care at all one way or the other…

I personally put money on games and not these extras…

    2. A lot of people care. Just because you don’t, should no one? LOL

I got all of wave 1 easy. Just went to Toys R Us when they opened on launch day. I didn’t even break a sweat.

      1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

To answer you question you asked, pretty much the first sentence of this comment you made…

I mean just because some get butthurt over not being able to get the entire collecttion doesn’t mean Amiibos are irrelevant as others have completed theirs…

People think that everyone can always get everything, no world works that way…

    3. I agree, IMO it would be okay for them to be shitty on disk DLC activators if they had enough stock because getting a mini statue of your favorite smash character without paying someone huge amounts of money on esty to do it for you would be cool.

  4. It would be funny if these ended up being just like regular Mario and were easy to find at every Walmart. Probly not too likely tho lol

  5. A Walmart exclusive. Lol.
I have the Amiibos I wanted. I’ll wait for Duck Hunt and Dark Pit and I’m done with Amiibos. There is no way I would ever buy multiple versions of the same character. (gold, silver, pink ect.) It was hard enough finding the ones I have. It was fun while it lasted.

  6. This Amiibo crapola is all non-sense. I’m just trying to get the few I want… it’s proving to be an expensive pain in the ass. Nintendo isn’t making good money either… just the scalpers.
It’s all pretty fuc@ed up if you ask me….. baaaaad.

  8. Not to be rude, but it’s a normal Mario Amiibo painted gold. It makes no sense to me… It does the same function as every other Mario Amiibo. -.-

    1. True, but for people who haven’t picked Mario up yet, this rare edition is very appealing. And of course you have your typical collectors as well.

    2. And using fire mario costume in smash is no difference in function from normal mario. People like different things. If they came out with a Fire costume mario amiibo or tanooki mario or frog suit mario, you know how quick those will sell out? Quick I’m sure lol.

  9. I got my Villager, Toon Link and Kirby. All I need is Duck Hunt and maybe Dedede if u can find one. After that im done. I’ll never open them!!!!!

  10. I thought Iwata said that the west coast port strike (which ended) was the reason for the amiibo shortages? Well, why haven’t I seen more amiibos in stores? And why is there NEVER enough supply for the most wanted ones? Tell me THAT, Iwata!

    1. In his defense, the port strike just ended so they might need a little time to restock and get the shipments over seas. In a week or two if it’s still slacking, we riot.

  11. I had to buy a Mega Man amiibo for $30 bucks online… or I wasn’t going to get one!!
Amazon cancelled my preorder, and then the stores sold out instantly where I live.
Yet, I’ve watched Amazon constantly put up preorders for it after the fact that sell out faster than my cart can process… it’s FUCKING INSANE!
Pretty much…. I’m going to be done with giving Nintendo $$$ soon.
I’ll get the DKC trilogy, Mario Maker, Xeno X, Zelda, and Star Fox all on Wii U and then stop giving Nintendo any of my money.. for good.

    1. Megaman and Sonic are meant to be commons. I live in the city where the port strike is.

i don’t believe more rare amiibo will show up. There were people on other sites claiming the holy trinity would show up, there’s a reprint, but as far as port strike goes, my only response back is, “Why would a bunch of Bower, Zelda, Luigi etc. get through and not ones that have been stuck?” Amiibo were considered small enough to get through in most cases. Larger items got stuck. However, my area flooded with Sonic just over a week ago. He’s completely common. The rest of the shipments should be hitting the retailers shortly. They were being released, just in smaller batches. Expect all pre orders to be fulfilled by end of Spring (that was the ETA due to port strike)

  12. First, scalpers have very little to do with this, there was a limit of 2 per person. If course people will scalp the two they got, but they were not able to buy mass quantities. I am annoyed by the news. I wasn’t looking. I did see the facebook notifications, but i only aaw sold out online even though people kept posting it was back up. So damn annoying

  13. I do not know if it’s just me or if everyone else experiencing
problems with your website. It appears as if some of the text in your content are running off the screen.

Can someone else please comment and let me know if this is happening to them too?
This could be a issue with my internet browser because I’ve had this happen previously.
