Rock Band 4 was officially announced today and it’s coming to both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Many fans were left wondering why it was skipping the Wii U as the franchise had plenty of fans on the Wii. Thankfully, Harmonix has explained on their official forums why it’s not coming to the console. Harmonix believe the biggest Rock Band audience is on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 so they’re only developing it for those platforms.
Q: Why not Wii / Wii U / PC?
A: Due to shifting production priorities and capabilities of the studio, we don’t currently have plans to release RB4 on the Wii / Wii U / PC simultaneously with Xbox One and PS4. While we genuinely appreciate the support of Wii Rock band users over the years, and the increased interest from PC gamers, the truth is that we had to prioritize opportunities on other platforms with historically larger RB audiences

You released late on the Wii so of course all Wii/ PS3 or Wii/360 owners bought their version on the higher rez consoles. Start with WiiU on day one and you will have customers.

That’s because they let you import more past games and titles on the XBox 360 and PS3. The only imports allowed on the Wii/WiiU were Rockband 2 (partial list), Rockband Greenday, Rockband Lego. But Track packs, AeroSmith, Metallica, and I believe some GH material could be imported at a reduced price for the XBox and PS game systems. That is probably why it appears there was more sales. Wii was cheated on the importable titles. I was excited to be able to import Rockband 2 material (around 70 songs) for a mere $10. If I had other imports like that, I would have downloaded all of them. I’m just soooooo disappointed that I have almost 500 songs that have been purchased in my Nintendo dlc library and I can’t import them to the new game. I believe Harmonix should work some kind of patch for WiiU users to transfer the songs to RB 4 even if it requires an import fee or a 1 time transfer service update like they did to transfer your classic Wii downloads to the WiiU. Come on Harmonix and Nintendo, let’s play fair. On average, I’ve spent over $1,000 on dlc, and I bought both versions of the Pro-Guitars for the Wii RB 3. As far as I’m concerned, Nintendo got their money’s worth as well as Harmonix, Mad Catz, Fender, and whoever the hell else got a cut in this game franchise!
You have to keep in mind that the PS3 has a smaller install base than the Wii, and the fact that the games of the franchise have sold nearly as much on it as they did on Wii, is an argument that speaks for support being strong on Playstation.
There’s also the thing with the DLCs, as Simply G has explained.
Plus, Rock Band was available on the PS2 as well. Even though sales numbers admittedly weren’t very high in relation to the total number of PS2 consoles sold, you have to take into consideration that the games came out at the very end of the console’s life cycle, while the PS3 was already out even. But yea, the point being, if you combine the number of copies sold on PS2 with the numbers of the PS3, they actually surpass the Wii’s numbers.
So they aren’t all too wrong when saying support has been stronger on other platforms.
I agree with and accept the DLC point. I think the install base point is weaker. So many of the people who owned the Wii just owned the thing for Wii Sports, Wii Fit etc., and you just don’t have that with the Wii U. You’re not going to find the Wii U in old people’s homes – it’s a different demographic in that sense. For the Rock Band games to sell as well as they did on Wii looks impressive to me compared to other third party games on the platform. I think it would sell decently well on Wii U. I would certainly buy it for one.
The install base argument may or may not be as strong as the point with the DLCs, but it still is an argument. I’d assume attach rate does matter when deciding which platforms to bring a game to.
And while you’re definitely right about the demographic of the WiiU in comparison to the Wii’s, I’m still not sure how well it would actually sell on the WiiU if it made its way to the platform.

I tried a demo on the Wii U for Bayonetta and it just wasn’t fun. The same goes for The Wonderful 101 and to an extent, Pikmin. Bayonetta just seemed like an ordinary hack & slash from the SNES days, not at all my type of game. However Rock Band definitely is and I would very much like to play Rock Band 4 on a Nintendo platform as I grew up with the Nintendo consoles and have zero interest in any more PlayStation or XBOX consoles. I play on the PC and Nintendo platforms and would like to continue playing the Rock Band series which I started on the PS3 but have since moved away and now have the Wii versions.

Since they’re going indie this time around, they have limited funding. For that reason, they’re going with the networks that have produced the most money for them.
There are still people who purchase DLC for the older games regularly and that was part of the process that influenced their decision on what platforms to bring it to.
They saw XBL and PSN had the most digital sales which leads to longevity for them when it comes to income. Add that to the new features that could only be implemented on the new generation, they chose the PS4 and Xbox One as the current platforms.
The game could still come out on other platforms later.

I think there are three different models of it. They go from exactly $500-$700. Cheapest one I’ve seen is on Amazon for about $469. It’s good enough to play PC games at 1080P but I have to warn you though. If you plan on playing future games at high settings then you shouldn’t get it. Gets the job done but don’t expect to max out games. But I guess if you don’t really care about all the fancy details in your games and stuff, then it’s a nice and cheap way to get into PC gaming. Even I would like one, but I want to build a PC for myself. PC building looks complicated but it’s actually pretty easy. It just requires a lot of time and research. And from what I’ve seen, Alienware products are really overpriced. If I were you, I would not pay more than $500 for it. Don’t even pay attention to the $700 version. Once you reach that price, it’s time you think about building it yourself. And even if you don’t, there’s still better pre-built ones out there.

Surface Pro 3 is adequate enough to play some older games that still look good today.
Older games, sure. Not new games though. That thing runs Assassin’s Creed 4 on low @22FPS. For $500 a Surface Pro 3 running GTA V vs PS4 running GTA V? And plus the PS4 version is 1080P 30FPS? LOL no contest. It’s pretty clear who the winner is.
I have a PS3 and runs GTA5 in avenger manner. lol I’m sure Surface 3 will run the same game a bit better with better processor and higher RAM. And of course GTA5 PS4 port is better because it’s optimized for a platform that has a higher RAM and sorta faster processor than Surface 3. But the PC port still has the optimization options to run and look fine on a powerful 2013 PC/Tablet anyway.

You see Stranga, here’s the thing about PC gaming. People game on PC rather than consoles (mainly) because of better frame rates, higher resolution, etc. If you’re going to buy any gaming PC, it should not be weaker than a console. Because if you’re going to play on low settings with bad frame rates, you may as well stick with a console. And the way I see it, you have three options.
1: Pre-built gaming desktop PC for $500.
2: Build a PC yourself.
3: Stick to consoles.
The initial cost of getting into PC gaming is high, but you start eventually saving due to Steam sales and stuff. I would recommend you start with at LEAST $800. You’re not getting anywhere with $500. That my friend is what the PS4 and X1 are for. Cheap way to get into gaming. So go ahead and pick your choice. You can get that Surface Pro 3 if you want, but I’m warning you. It isn’t going do well in games… XD

Yeah, I know. Backwards compatibility would’ve been awesome. You made the right choice with the 3 though. You don’t need to rush and jump ahead to current gen just yet. Go ahead and enjoy those past games you missed first. It actually makes more sense to do that anyways because over time, PS4 will get more and more games that you might get interested in. Only big exclusive I could really recommend to you right now is inFamous. Everything else I recommend you get are mainly multiplats that you can also get on PS3. So I don’t blame you for not making the switch yet.

Killzone? Nah, I don’t know. I heard it was kind of boring. But then again, I think most shooters are pretty boring. They usually always have the same recycled story. Two teams going to war. Blah blah. It’s been done hundreds of times already. I wish there were more shooters like Bioshock Infinite. Where the story actually matters. I think it’s stupid when developers release a $60 shooter with a 6 hour campain. They pay so much attention to online features and DLC instead. If someone doesn’t have access to the internet, then that shooter would just be a huge waste of money.

Would be angry BUT if you notice they have interest in both the Wii (Including Wii U) and PC platforms. So if they earn enough money from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game then expect a Wii U and PC version not too far behind.

Don’t know why people are getting worked up about it, plus, Harmonix went back to being an indie studio and Rock Band is their own IP they got back from EA so coming up with the money to make a Wii U version of the game will take time.

I played the heck out of the first two Rock Band games on Wii with friends. I welcome the series back. It’s one of those fun party games. As long as there are fresh new gameplay options and game features, I’ll probably get it.
It would have been nice to have it on the Wii U since that’s kind of my go-to game night system for local multiplayer games, but I can do PS4 as well.

That is just a load of BS…I seriously am getting annoyed from everyone saying that it’s not a priority. Unfortunately I expect third party companies to say it, but damn, for a game as simple as this it is completely intolerable. Guitar Hero and Rock Band may not be the greatest music/rhythm games, hell I they definitely aren’t, but as someone with a passion in music it is a shame that they will be skipping out. Oh well, guess they won’t be getting my money.

Assasins Creed 3 sold over 300k copies off of a 4-5 million install base. Rock Band could easily sale 800k – 1M copies off of a 10 million install base. Like I said, they must hate money..

Rock Band games were available on the Playstation 2 as well, making Playstation platforms the strongest in terms of Rock Band support, if you combine the numbers of PS2 + PS3.

I love rhythm games I have rock band I have a bunch of guitar heros I have a bunch of stuff on my Nintendo systems that are rhythm games but I play rock band DJ Hero and all that other stuff for the most part on my xbox 360 and soon to be my ps4.
I just hope my 360 songs transfer over to my ps4 for the new game
They state transfer to different platform is not going to happen. You can import songs fromPS3 to PS4 and from XBox360 to XBox One. Wii/WiiU and PC platforms are not supported.
Hopefully it’s never released on the Wii U. This games are absolute crap.
