Sakurai Says Mewtwo DLC Release Date To Be Announced Soon

Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has reassured fans that the Mewtwo DLC will be coming to Super Smash Bros very soon. The news was announced during a Japanese stream which featured the legendary Smash Bros designer. Sakurai says the Mewtwo DLC is basically nearly finished, so all we’ve to do is patiently wait.

Thanks, Jason and Rubberyen

    1. I agree. Have Nana and Popo be alt colors (Like Wii Fit Trainer, Olimar, and etc) and have them both pop out for their final smash. This would be the absolute best thing to do, and would be akin more to the original game (Since it was called ICE CLIMBER without the ‘s’)

      1. but it wouldn’t be the same. The ice climbers already have a legacy in smash and by making them one character would shit on there legacy and there fans who like there 2 on 1 playstyle

  1. I have both games, but I downloaded the 3DS version before hearing about this and getting a club Nintendo account. I’m having trouble registering the 3DS version, and tips? I already missed that CD offer :(

    1. I believe that eventually the MewTwo DLC will eventually become available as a paid download, but you’ll have to wait a few more months before they make an announcement.

Just speculation, but I stand by it.

    2. It should register for you automatically when you link your NNID to your Club Nintendo account since you downloaded the game

    3. Did you dowload the game before linking your Nintendo ID? Thats what happened to me. Your best bet is to call Nintendo and ask them to add them for you. I had to do that, theyre friendly :).

      1. Thanks! I’ll try that. When do I need it registered by again? I thought I remember hearing sometime in April.

    4. It does it automatically when buying it and or if you register an account within 2 weeks, I believe you waited way longer than that so you missed out

    5. Go to your local game stop and use their used copy of smash bros codes. Some gamestops will let you take them, so it’s worth a shot.

I just hope he changes his fucking mind and at least gives us one more damn dlc character.

    1. It makes no sense for them NOT to do more DLC- Smash DLC would be a major cash cow everyone would buy.

Since Smash is usually once per console generation and we likely won’t see a new Smash for at least 5 years, this would greatly keep Sm4sh alive longer, if not until the new one.

As for what the DLC is, well, personally I want the Ice Climbers back, even if they’re only on Wii U. Wii U can get Ice Climbers exclusively, whereas 3DS can get, I don’t know, Wolf exclusively or someone.

  3. Already plan to use the Wii U version for myself, and to give the 3DS version to my brother.
I have this thing about fair share when it comes to him and I.
Guess you could call it “Brother Bond”.

  4. On a side, it is such a shame to see the Ice Climbers being the only “true” Melee veterans getting shafted in this game. I don’t count the clone characters since they were technically the same as their regulars, were already replaced since Brawl or are pretty much in this game now. (Mario/Dr. Mario, Roy/Ike, Link/Tooung Link, C. Falcon/Ganondorf, Fox/Falco)
Not counting Pichu since that’s pretty much just a Pikachu in baby form.

    1. Like what? He’ll probably have the same moveset from Melee (which is NOT a copy of Lucario in any sense besides the energy ball charging) and a different Final Smash like a mega evolution, most likely his “X” form.

      1. It’ll most likely be Metwo Y, as its the one that was marketed at first. Also, we already have the X version of charizard so Y needs a representative.

The only thing that would make sense giving us Mewtwo X is because X sold better than Y.

What if they gave us a different version for the each entry. Like Y form on 3DS and X firm on Wii U.

        1. Oh god I remember hating that form with its awkward ass design. XP Mewtwo X would make more sense for Smash Bros. because of its fighting type plus his Mega form will kick Lucario’s ass ten fold. lol

That idea would be cool. Mewtwo Y & X for one of each version.

          1. Since the game already has Charizard in its X form, I think it would be logical for Mewtwo to have its Y form, imo.
Just to have a balance type of thing by giving the game one thing from Pokemon X and one thing from Pokemon Y. But who knows, they might not even make Mega Evolution its Final Smash and may give it something totally different, lol.

            1. X is the more popular version so I wouldn’t be surprised if Mewtwo has the Mega X form as Final Smash. Or maybe Mewtwo will adapt Lucario’s old Final Smash from Brawl.

  6. The reason Sakurai didn’t give us a release date now is because it’s going to be revealed in a Nintendo Direct this week. That’s what I’d like to think anyways..

  7. Mewtwo will most likely have Mega Mewtwo Y as its final smash. It’s the most marketed Mega Evolution and was the first one ever shown.

If you guys want your voices heard for more Smash DLC, this poll is your best course of action.
This poll ends at the end of March, so we need as many results as we can. When you guys are done filling it out, I recommend posting a link to this poll on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Smash-related sites. Showing it to those close to you doesn’t hurt either.
    Please fill this out.
    Thank you.

  9. Lucas needs to come back… He’s the star of the best Nintendo game. If he’s ever DLC then he’s my new main for sure.

    1. I kinda get Metroid, but DK?

My biggest gripe with him is that he just refuses to add Krystal, but now that we have Palutena (narcissism showing again), she may never have a chance since we now have a female staff-wielding fighter.
