Capcom Says Development On Monster Hunter Stories Began Around Five Years Ago

We were all slightly taken by surprise last night when Capcom lifted the lid on Monster Hunter Stories for Nintendo 3DS. It turns out the development on the colourful RPG began around five years ago. Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto says that while the game is different from what many had expected, they are staying true to the deadly world of Monster Hunter.

After having passed the 10th anniversary last year, this is a new challenge for the Monster Hunter series, that we’ve began designing since about five years ago. While staying true to the world of Monster Hunter, and a story that can only be told through an RPG, we’d like to pack it with fun and enjoyment that we can’t even begin to describe with words. It is still in the middle of development, we’d like to offer you a new kind of excitement that is different from the conventional series, and the development staff are working on it in full-spirit.

Thanks, Michelle

      1. Based on the end of the trailer, that is exactly what you’ll be able to do. Would be even cooler if you could take it even further, since Monster Hunter has a capture system.

        1. Not much to see so far, but I think the end of the trailer was in game. About all there is to base it on so far until we get actual gameplay.

            1. Maybe. I’m really hoping it isn’t though, I hope it stays true to the free roaming nature of Monster Hunter, and can still stay more action based.

I love cel-shading too, it’s one of my favorite game styles. I’m really thinking the end of the trailer was a small glimpse. I know some are saying it looks too good, but I think given it’s cel-shaded the 3DS could pull that off. Cel-shading is less taxing on the hardware, you can do a lot more with cel-shaded games.

Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, Red Steel 2 and Mad World on Wii, are a good example of that.

3DS, Nintendo showing all the haters how it really must be done. Capcom and Nintendo have just made the a lot of Sony drones angry. RPG Monster hunter what!

    F=ma.

    1. Well technically the PS3 and PS Vita are getting a Monster Hunter. Although it is probably one of the crappiest ones there is, and it’s subscription based.

Reason for them to even be more upset. We get the real Monster hunter while the get a pay as you play game.

        1. With the success of the PS4, I wouldn’t get too ahead of myself. But I can’t argue with you there. Was just saying.

Oddly you’d be surprised how many of them are excited for it, but I’d be one that isn’t. Of course I’m not a drone for any system, but it would’ve been nice to get a legitimate Monster Hunter on Sony platforms again.

Oh well, that’s what I have more than one system for.

      2. Monster Hunter Online is the most expansive Monster Hunter game to date. The game gets updates and tons of new monsters and areas on a yearly basis. I would kill to get that game as soon as its free to play.

        1. Monster Hunter Online looks real good. I’m talking about Frontier though, which is in no way comparable to MHO. Not sure if you were talking to me or him, these reply things get kind of confusing sometimes.

Regardless I agree. I want to play MHO also, but I’m not willing to pay monthly for one game.

  2. It looks great, but development started five years ago? And Capcom said it’s only halfway in development? Holy shiz, see you in 2020.

    1. My guess is it will be out next year. Now in other countries, that’s another story. If it doesn’t get localized I’ll be sad.

Seems like Japan is hating on this game hard, so who knows how that will go.

  3. Hey guys! If any of you is interested to take a look at Assassin’s Creed 3 on Wii U in StereoScopic 3D, here’s a quick sample video I ulploaded to see the effect on the New 3DS. In order to view it, use YouTube on the Internet Browser and NOT the YouTube app on the New 3DS :) There’s a couple more there too on my personal channel as there is other types of 3D effects to play with! Enjoy :)

    1. No offense to you personally, but I hate when people try to promote themselves here. There are just so many other places you could do this, it comes off a little desperate for attention. Just my opinion.

Sorry if I offended you anyway. As I know you are a contributor to this site, but still…

      1. I ain’t promoting here and I ain’t looking for attention. I could keep plugging my own channel on this but I ain’t. It’s something people may be interested in. I even sent it in to the MNN team too to take a look if they have the new 3DS also. If you don’t like it, don’t care to be honest.

        1. I don’t expect you to care, I never said I didn’t like the content either. How is this related to news though, can you explain this to me?

And you are promoting your channel, doesn’t really matter how often you do it. The point is you’re trying to get views on your videos with something that has no relevance to actual news here. I wouldn’t even be complaining if it actually was related to news.

Is it cool you’re taking time to do this, sure. Is it bad? No. It just doesn’t really need to be posted in the comment sections, or even submitted as news. Nothing newsworthy about it.

          1. When did I say it was news? I said if anyone is interested? and i pointed out it was personal channel. I haven’t uploaded anything to it in ages and I run a proper gaming channel which I could plug the crap out of here but I don’t. The only person who has a problem here so far is you. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Simple as!

            1. Sorry, I don’t abide by such flawed logic. If you have something important to say, say it. I don’t care if it isn’t nice. Never understood that. I’m not even being mean to you either. I have my own channel also, but I don’t post my videos here, even if I think people would be interested. It doesn’t really have a place on a news related site.

I looked at your channel, and you have posted fairly often. Maybe not every single day, but I don’t think last month is considered ages ago, which is the last time you posted a video.

Again this is all just my opinion, so do as you please. I don’t care to that extent, I just never saw the point in people posting videos from their own channel here, of all places.

              1. She has a point. And honestly you do plug the crap out of your channel. Every time you post a comment with your screen name you are plugging your channel. Not that I really care, I just wanted to point that out.

  4. And it will be Monster Hunter Stories Red and Blue. You have to grab eggs from different monsters… (even those that don’t lay eggs…) XD

It will come with MHS Figure Builder that’s NFC compatible. And 5 figures will be announced along with the release date. XD

But seriously, joking aside, I just wish Capcom would localize it really quick because the usual 1 yr is way too long a wait.

  5. Looks interesting. I’m always in the mood for an RPG but I never really got into the main Monster Hunter games (mainly due to difficulty).

  7. I honestly don’t know what all you can do with turning a series known for extensive ‘combat’ of sorts & weapon & armor grinding into an RPG…I might have made myself sound like an idiot but ANY way…

I mean, low level monsters would be Aptonoth, Melynx, Jaggi, & the like, right? Then “bosses” would be the bigger fish – Tigrex (as shown in the trailer), Zinogre, Rathian, Royal Luddy, and others. I’m just saying because a typical RPG far as I know has a LARGE array of characters & bosses, mostly generic but they’re there & in your way so you usually have to take them out. With Monster Hunter eh…I mean, you could add human enemies to the mix but…well, maybe that’ll work.

    Guess we’ll wait & see.
