NPD: Sales Of Nintendo Hardware Systems Up Nearly 60 Percent in 2015

The New Nintendo 3DS XL system continues to inject growth into Nintendo’s hand-held business, and the momentum created for Wii U in 2014 has carried over into 2015. Take these two elements, add in fun, exclusive titles starring some of the biggest names in gaming, and overall sales of Nintendo hardware systems so far in 2015 have increased by nearly 60 percent over sales during the same time frame in 2014.

Other Nintendo sales highlights include:

Nintendo 3DS

  • Total hardware sales in 2015 have increased by nearly 80 percent over sales during the first three months of 2014.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D added more than 184,000 total units in its second month, bringing lifetime sales to more than 730,000 total units.
  • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS added more than 110,000 total units in its sixth month on the market, bringing its lifetime total to 2.4 million units.

Wii U

  • Total hardware sales in 2015 have increased by more than 20 percent over sales during the first three months of 2014.
  • Mario Party 10 launched on March 20 and sold nearly 290,000 total units in its first two weeks.
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Mario Kart 8 continue to sell well in their respective fifth and 11th months on the market, bringing their lifetime totals to nearly 1.6 million total units and more than 1.9 million total units, respectively.

The momentum for Nintendo software and systems should continue over the next few months thanks to a strong lineup of software that includes the just-released Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (New Nintendo 3DS XL, April 10) and Splatoon (Wii U, May 29) games.

      1. He was just mistaken. He thought that it was for Worldwide. I mean, Mario Kart 8 is close to breaking 5 Million.

  1. meanwhile sony BULLSHIT THEY HAD GOOD LAST 1/4 WHILST HEADING TOWARD WELL OVER A BILLION IN LOSS THIS FISCAL YEAR TAKINGBTHERE LOSS TO 12 BILLION IN THE LAST 8 YEARS

THEY WILL RETURN TO LOSS IN 2015 AFTER ONE IN THE BLACK 1/4 over christmas….

    sony fans are insane fanboyz

    1. So you bring Sony fanboys up on a Nintendo Website, and bring up Sony’s loses (which have no relevance here) and you have the audacity to go and call Sony fanboys insane?

Do you not see the fucking irony?

  2. If looking at raw sales numbers, Sony wins hands down. At a profitable view… eh all three companies are doing ok. A 20% increase only means that the wii u is still selling weakly. If it sold 80 000 in February, it still sold less than 100 000 in March.

  3. This has got Reggie written all over it. a 20% increase here, blah blah.
The system sells like shit. Take out the Virtual Boy. This is Nintendo’s worst selling console ever

    1. But you miss the most important aspect, regardless of how low Wii U sales numbers are. The fact that the Wii U has not yet peaked, despite all the countless blogs telling us that it has. The Wii U has sold better year over year since release. A dieing console does not do that. A dieing console has it’s best sales in the first year, then sales drop year over year until it fades into nothing…

No matter how much people hate the Wii U. No matter how big their gaming drought is. These numbers are proof that the Wii U is in fact NOT dead, or dieing.

      1. You misspelled dying, but you are right about the Wii U’s increased sales so you aren’t an idiot.

I am as surpised that sales increase every year as much as that more people don’t already have it.

    2. If you own one, then fine, that is your opinion. If you don’t own one, then you are not entitled to an opinion on the matter. That’s like me, saying that Microsoft makes the worst consoles, dispite not owning one. I would never do such a thing. I’ve only owned 3 home consoles, PS1, Wii and Wii U and out of the 3, the Wii U is my personal favourite, heck, I’m typing this off of the Gamepad right now. I like playing games without needing the T.V, I like drawing on Miiverse, I like watching Youtube and typing comments at the same time, I like playing the games, both new and old. Again, that’s just personal preference, if you own or owned a Wii U and you hate it, then that’s your opinion, I can’t change it, but trying to enforce your personal opinion on others, is just wrong.

    1. see? remember what i said loooooong ago…”Nintendo will always…ALWAYS…have tricks up their sleeves”.

“If it wasn’t for nintendo, your xbox or playstation wouldn’t be shit”.

      You still act surprised.

      1. Not like the figures are great yet. (love my Wii U games, but the system is not selling well, even if the sales are improving) I still maintain that Nintendo will make an overall profit on the system however.
