      1. I think it’s super fun to play and to watch. I don’t like Melee, because the characters move too quickly, so it’s boring for me to watch (and less fun to play), because I don’t even know what they are doing half the time. Just looks like a bunch of button mashing to me.

        1. Melee is actually the most skilled based and difficult to learn, thats why its still so popular. even sakurai said this.

            1. Because he wants to make the games to cater to the casual audience. That’s obvious. He doesn’t like the concept of a skill gap, so he’s been simplifying the game more after Melee to try to make it so that there’s few advanced techniques for players to take advantage of. Of course this doesn’t do anything to lessen the skill gap, since any PvP game will inherently allow for a skill gap between casual and serious players. That’s what makes Sakurai’s mindset in making these games so flawed.

              1. Because Sakurai develops a game that everyone can enjoy, as opposed to just a couple hundred thousand enthusiasts , he has a flawed mindset? I would say if he catered to just the serious players he would have a flawed mindset. You know the point of these games is to sell copies and make money.

                1. You misunderstand me. Making a game that everyone can enjoy is fine, that wasn’t what I said. I said that Sakurai believes that a skill gap is bad, and something that can be removed. But the fact is that every game will have a skill gap if some players decide to play more than others. Back in the day I would always win every mini-game in Mario Party when I’d play with the fam because I was/am just better at vidya. There was a skill gap. Sakurai is seeking to make a game that is flat and balances between skilled and unskilled players, and that is not logically possible. That is all I consider flawed.

              2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

And you can easily tell he’s trying to get rid of a skill gap with the fact he doesn’t allow custom characters or mii fighters onto the online mode. Sakurai is brilliant but apparently not brilliant enough to add two different online modes: one where custom characters & mii fighters are legal & one where they are illegal.

                1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

But again, this can go back to the fact that apparently in some cases, Nintendo absolutely HATES options.

      2. xD wow, you call it boring and not even fighting to the max CPU levels? No wonder its boring to you, where is the 6 to 8 player battles at level 9? Want fun? try that…oh and I hear the Amiibo will kick your ass after a few mins. Also where are the online peoples? there are some waaaaaay better to fight then what you are showing, on top of that yoshi and DK kicked your ass and YOU CALLING IT BORING?! You are trying TOO HARD TO CONVINCE YOURSELF of that 7.1 over 10…laaaaaaaaaame video man.

        1. Case and point that Amiibo will kick a human player’s ass, is if you search up on Youtube, something along the lines of, Septar Jr Uberhaxornova, that Marth Amiibo kicked everybody’s ass and it took a properly skilled Smash Player to actually defeat the thing.

          1. https://www.getdigital.eu/web/getdigital/gfx/products/__generated__resized/1100×1100/Aufkleber_Trollface.jpg

RIGHT?! I mean those dam things are proving to get one and train against it just to improve your own fighting skills. That’s saying something to the weak like that guy sassori. Well said Takerkaneanite619…I would like to buy one soon…if I can find the right one I like to train against, as of now, they are still getting sold out here where I live, USA.

            1. @Snowman and Takerkaneanite: It’s never a good idea to try to use CPUs to train. Amiibos or not, they’re still CPUs and can’t think in the same ways as a human. The Septar videos only show him fighting other amateur players. Good players will be able to defeat any CPU because they cannot innovate in their tactics mid-game, even Amiibos are limited by their programming.

And when people say that game is boring, they mean that the game has shallow technical depth and inherently encourages a more defensive playstyle to achieve victory. Defensive options are very strong, and make approaching unsafe in many situations. Melee offers a balance of offensive and defensive options that doesn’t favor one or the other, but instead encourages players to change their tactics and styles to meet new situations. And the game’s physics engine provides players the tools needed to be creative in their tactics and push their limits. While some may appreciate the way Sm4sh functions, there are a great many who do not, and for good reason. Just because you don’t agree with a person’s opinion, it doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. We’re all entitled to prefer whatever game we want, but launching personal attacks and berating somebody for having a different opinion is hypocritical only shows your own emotional immaturity.

              1. then I have a question for you,,,and trust me they are good to train against because unlike the CPU levels, they think and they level up like in a RPG.

How did one fox amiibo beat a whole “best of the best” and got second against tournament…not NORMAL PLAYERS, TOURNAMENT PLAYERS?

One guy actually beat the INSANE Amiibo

                1. First, Amiibos do not think. They will change their tactics and strategies after a game, not during. A human can process a situation and re-assess his/her tactics mid-game and decide on different courses of action, but an Amiibo can’t. Because of this, you’ll be training yourself to be responsive to this super slow adaptation as opposed to a real person’s adaptation.

Second, just because you go to a tournament, it doesn’t mean you’re automatically good. This was a local tournament, and a weekly no less. Hardly the “best of the best.” These are amateur players and it’s easy to understand how they could have been defeated. Especially considering the myriad artificial boosts that Amiibos get as the level up, including huge knockback multiplier and damage buffs, super fast reaction times (frame reading), etc. A good player, however, will be able to see the Amiibo’s patterns: how it responds to various approaches, its recovery methods, how it deals with camping or pressure, etc. and taking advantage of them. Good players are skilled at reading the patterns of their opponents and capitalizing.

I do know what I’m talking about lol

                    1. Source for what exactly? I simply stated how Amiibos functioned, and you can look that up yourself. You can also easily find articles referencing the tournament where the Fox Amiibo #rekt on your own. What video are you asking for?

                    2. “Lost”? Lol I’m not fighting you here, I’m trying to give you correct information for your own benefit. That video just shows Amiibos learning after every battle. I don’t see how my logic was thrown out the window since I gave you fact, and you replied with a video that actually demonstrated my point regarding the way CPUs learn. I think if you were to read my comments objectively and completely, without being argumentative, then you may see what I’m saying. This isn’t a contest to see who is right. I’ve played smash, as well as many other fighting games, for several years. I just want to help teach others the things that I’ve learned :)

                    3. I see what I see…and clearly I see that Amiibo learning, thinking, and leveling as the fight goes on, perhaps YOU need to learn a thing or two. The logic of “Amiibos do not think. They will change their tactics and strategies after a game, not during”. That fox amiibo didn’t get that high in short time for nothing, Oh and by the way now that I’m reminded of the subject, I didn’t say that they are good because they are in the tournament, I call them turny players for a reason. And yes most turny players are very skilled…Shokio is one of them.

I’m just trying to say “you got it wrong”. That video proves MY POINT, not yours MY POINT is that it does think. However, its really a “monkey see, monkey do” with the amiibo. Guy even said it, “The amiibo learns from you, you taunt after you KO it, it will Taunt after it KO’s you”. I mean come on man, I may not have it but I can see every bit of it. Take a closer look if you don’t believe me.

                    4. You do realize that they’re programmed to learn based on your tactics? They are programmed to assess what occurred after a battle and apply new tactics in the following battles. My point has been that this isn’t how a human thinks. Humans are capable of processing things in the middle of a battle and change on the spot. That’s the biggest thing. You still have yet to address that fact.

                    5. I’ve already addressed the fact, you just keep missing it. Yes I do realized that is their program, but again you never see it. I said it once and I’ll say it again, The do learn in battle, they do think, and they do level up during battle. The only thing I saw was the items like CD’s that you have to get from then AFTER BATTLE. Now drop the subject.

                    6. Alright lol. Your video actually doesn’t say anything about the Amiibos adapting and changing tactics in the middle of one game, nor is it even a credible source. Like I said, I was just trying to correctly inform you. I do know how these function, as I’ve used them before. But you can believe what you want. Generally, it’s considered wise to defer to the knowledge of those who are more experienced than yourself. Eventually you’re going to understand that 1) Amiibos do not learn/respond like actual real people, and therefore 2) are not good for using as training partners. The fact that you truly believe that Amiibos can do this is laughable, since that would involve an extremely high level of artificial intelligence that doesn’t actually exist yet. Avoid logical thinking all you like, it just means you’ll never be good at the game lol.

p.s. Saying “now drop the subject” doesn’t actually force the other person to drop the subject. You just look silly, like you’re trying to command an end to an argument that you’re not winning XD.

                    7. And you’re still trying to end it, “drop the subject” means leave it be, You don’t have too b ut it makes it look better than keeping the argument going. Your still not seeing it, that video shows everything…If I got too I will point it out to you step by step. This is why I call many people “idiots”. It’s also why one of the many reasons why I don’t come here much anymore. I tell you once last time, pay attention to the amiibo, if you HAVEN’T (judging that you keep to what you say and still telling me the same bullshit over and over when the video still shows it) NOTICED, it DOES change its thinking strategies, and it does GET aggressive as the battle kept going. You the fool for keeping on telling me “they don’t do that and after battle they rank up”. You got a better video or if you show me by your own proof of what you say, then post it. Show me the proof of your beliefs…the source as I said before.

                    8. And you’re still missing the original point of the discussion. Training partners. Amiibos, while they may adapt over time, still cannot think on the level of a human being. Even if I were to give you the point that they adapt mid-battle, it doesn’t change the fact that they cannot possibly function in the same way as a real person. A human partner will always be better, and extensive training against a CPU of any kind will form very bad habits in your playstyle. Just going by thit original point:
“Amiibos do not think like a human being and cannot innovate and adapt in the same manner. Therefore, training to fight an Amiibo trains you to think in a frame of mind revolving around the Amiibo’s functionality as opposed to a human’s, and will not help you when you encounter a human player that doesn’t suck and will actively adapt their strategies.”

The level of AI for a CPU to think as a human does doesn’t exist, and even if it did Nintendo wouldn’t incorporate it into their $15 toys.

Now, whether an Amiibo is actually able to change mid-game is actually irrelevant, because it is just a facet of the original point that I had brought up to you. Amiibos are programmed. They are CPUs. They may be much better than normal CPUs, for sure. But they are still CPUs. And CPUs are never good for training partners. Find a real person so you can train to fight real people.

                    9. As I said, show me your source of that belief. Here I tell you what, I’ve trained against the CPU, and I’ll show you how I fight from at least a video source I did have long ago. losing and winning against players, just from training against the CPU. If you got a horrid player of smash and you got no one, the cpu or in this case the stronger cpu, Amiibo, IS a GREAT TRAINING PARTNER.

P.S. The quality is bad because it was done by a friend. the name is SSMF. and I turned off the music and posted a non official songs.

                      Winning…

                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rAs551v6tQ

                      Losing…

                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OymsGv4Uz3s

Get it through your head. Sure the AI may not be what you think but neither the less they can teach you a thing or two, as for the amiibo, I still think they are still what I say.

You know what, fine, just for the sake of this ridiculousness, and to drop the subject, They are not perfect.

Now that I think about it, how about an expedition? I want to see how you fight in smash. :)

That said, I think I made a new friend. Snowman2002 is my NNID, lets race, hunt or smash sometime.

                    10. When I said they’re not good training partners, I meant they’d not be good for training to play against higher level players. The randoms in FG don’t really count. They may seen to help now, but it’ll lead to problems in the long term.

Also I shouldn’t have to provide a video proving that the technology for Human-level artificial intelligence doesn’t exist. That’s just common knowledge. It’s a tenant in all fighting games that CPUs shouldn’t be used for training. But yeah, we should drop it.

And I don’t own the game, actually. I mainly play Melee, but I respect other people’s preferences. I do play Sm4sh when my friends bring it out, and I’ve looked into the way Amiibos work lol. I actually don’t really like game tbh, but that’s just me.

      1. I’m curious, why is there Guilty Gear and Persona 4 Ultimax but no BlazBlue? Is it not popular enough? I personally find BlazBlue more entertaining and fun, but I can understand if it isn’t super popular.

      1. Yeah, got mixed up. Wasn’t sure if it was wii or gamecube, my bad. The fact that it’s an older game is even worse.

    1. Ever consider the fact that the game just released and very few skilled players have gotten used to the new mechanics yet? The exact same thing happened with Smash Wii U when it released fyi

    2. Well, Mortal Kombat has never been a big tournament fighter game. Mortal Kombat X is an awesome game. It’s easily the best MK since MK2. But Smash is better obviously.

  1. Smash Bros deserves it’s moment in the sun. It’s absolutely the greatest fighting game ever made

      1. You mean it depends it you want all out flying DBZ action or fast paced combos with supers and finishers. Remember, everyone has their own tastes. everyone is easily amused. I like free for all duke it out battles.

      2. It’s all about personal preferance. For example, I love Smash Bros for Wii U, but my older Brother won’t even try it. If you think that it’s for the easily amused, then that’s fine by me. All I have to say is that you’re on the wrong post, this post is about Smash Bros, if you don’t like Smash Bros, then you shouldn’t even be here.

  2. I wish these tournaments had Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior or one of the Fatal Fury games, those are my favorite (traditional) fighting series of all time.

  3. Only 6 for Tekken Tag 2? That’s a small tournament. Over in 2 hours.

Or… are these not the final numbers?

    1. they are not final…still pretty impressive to see Smash 4 with a high number that beats all…but I know better to just say until its ready to begin, that is where the final numbers come in at and I am waiting to see…also waiting to see that rumor is true about ryu’s theme in smash.

  4. I just wish this game was more fun. Every time I play, I get bored in a few minutes. All the fighters in the world won’t make a game fun when the options and modes are boring or dull. Or if the game feels half finished. I will always be down on this game for not having a story mode. All it is is a game where you collect trophies. *sigh*

I wish this was an RPG instead.

    1. Smash Bros for Wii U feels half finished to you? Wow, you are literally the first person I have seen a comment from, anywhere, that actually feels that way.

    1. I’m great at 1v1 no items and 4-player with items, have you actually watch skill people play 4 player with items and saw them suck at it, probably not

  5. Melee is going to be an intense tournament! I can see why the Wii U has more members though. It is more accessible and you stand a better chance of winning there as the meta game is still fairly new. Melee is still a lot more fun to watch, but I like seeing the Wii U fighters go at it

    1. also wiiu is more balanced so there’s more characters for winning penitential, also meaning there’s more characters to spark people interest

    1. I do have both copies of the game, wanna fight? Win or lose, I win all the way… :) Wanna know why? Because its all about the fun of the game, I want to get better yes, but fun is the whole existence of why the video game or games like board games like chess or checkers was made in the first place

  6. Pretty cool to see SSBU doing better than something like USF4. I play USF4 and SSBU and SSBM with melee being the preferred game but it just seems pretty awesome seeing a smash game get more entrants. I hope the melee gets a lot of entrants like last year

    1. Which version are you referring to? For me the SNES version was the best. I also remember playing decent Power Rangers and Sailor Moon tournament fighters for the SNES also.
