Here’s Some New Fire Emblem For Nintendo 3DS Details

We have finally got some juicy new details for the forthcoming Fire Emblem title for the Nintendo 3DS. We have yet to find out when it will be coming over here to the west, but hopefully all will be revealed during E3 in June. Anyway, here’s the latest dose of information taken from Japanese publication 4Gamer

  • Hoshido has a world map.
  • Nohr has more complex maps. Besides the usual “defeat all of the enemies”/”defeat the general” maps, there will also be suppression, breakthroughs, defending bases, turn restrictions, amongst others. There are lots of map gimmicks. (We’ve already seen dragon’s vein.)
  • Both versions of the game contain the same characters. You’ll be shown different aspects of their personalities in accordance to the route you select.
  • The downloadable version does not contain both sides. It does not lock the other route when you select one. You pay to receive everything up until chapter five, and once you make a decision, you will have to download everything from chapters six, onward, for the respectful route. The second download is free because you have already paid. If you want to try the alternative version, you have to buy DLC in the same way those with physical copies will.
  • You can also save directly to your 3DS system (versus the cartridge).
  • If you decide to buy the DLC, you can load your chapter 5 data and continue from that
  • instead of starting from the beginning. Of course, you can restart if you’d like to.
  • You’ll be able to experience an entire story by only playing one route. The other is a completely different story.
  • The third path is in the middle of Hoshido and Nohr in terms of difficulty. People who began with Hoshido should still be able to complete the third path.
  • You’ll be able to lower the difficulty in the middle of the game if you find Nohr too hard.
  • You’ll still be able to connect with people who play the alternative version. (Probably means you can streetpass someone with Nohr despite playing Hoshido, and vice versa.)
  • There will be various perks for connecting with other players.

Thanks, Patrick

    1. Agreed. What with locked content already on the disc with Mario Party and Mario Kart, selling one character in smash for 5 bucks, and now this – seems like they’re already starting to shoot themselves in the foot with their DLC implementation.

      1. Nice Irrelevant comment to ZQ. Proves the fact that you used him being the first comment to complain about business practices of a company and have people notice you complaining. Which, by the way, isn’t locked content, it’s an insentive to get the figures. This is actually a good thing, because unlike Guitar Hero and Skylanders, they have more then one use that does something. Not to mention complaining about paying money for a character that was, not only highly requested, but also was a character who needed balanced, and had bug fixes happen, before he was purchasable. Also 5$ for both versions, not a single version. Please stay topical.

        1. I don’t give a damn what you think about my posting practices, nor does it matter.
ZQ’s comment on the complicated nature of the DLC can directly relate to Nintendo’s other implementations of DLC. Irrelevant my ass. Regardless, on a forum where people pretend to be robots and roleplay, criticizing me for not being “topical” is highly amusing. And having content in a game that is only unlocked with the amiibo purchase is not cool. “Incentive to buy figures” – give me a fucking break with your bullshit spin. If it’s already on the disc but you need a separate purchase, it’s a shitty business practice regardless of who does it. If any other company besides Nintendo were doing it, people here would be bitching up a storm.

          1. Let me ask you this, what’s being locked behind amiibo that’s so important? Some costumes, extra skins, cameo characters from a different series? If it was important game modes that don’t really need amiibo, or story sequences being locked, then you have every right to complain. But I don’t see that happening.

      2. The thing is that both stories are said to be competely different from one and other. They are suppose to be like two different games just take place in the same setting and time. However we do not know how different they are and want similarities they share until it is release. The only bad thing is that they announce the 3 rd route as DLC before they even release the game.

      3. Mario Kart and Mario Party don’t have disc-locked content and I’ll admit 5 bucks sounds like a bit too much, but remember it’s for two games.

    2. I’m sure they will explain it all with a video during a direct or during E3 or something. No need to worry too much about it right now, because it isn’t even coming out until next year!

    3. Think of it this way: It’s like Omega Ruby vs Alpha Sapphire, or X and Y. But if you buy one, you can get the other as DLC for a lower price. If you get the downloadable version, you pay for the base game, choose one path to download, and have the option to download the other as DLC.

    1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Considering amiibo are selling very well, in spite of the bad stocking of certain amiibo, would that really be a bad thing?

    1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Yep. We have to wait an entire freaking year for it while Japan gets it next month. Unless by 2016, they mean Q1. In which case, half a year. But still, half a year is such a long wait.

  1. Holy shit this fucking sucks. Why can’t they just put both story lines in one game? Ok this is basically how it works for those who don’t understand. It took me a couple of minutes but I got it. So basically you buy the game alone. The game alone has up to 5 chapters before you have to choose a side. Once you have finished chapter 5 and have made a decision, you have to download the path you want chose to continue the game from chapter 6 and onward. This path will be free since you already payed for the game alone. Once you finish that path and you wanna play the other one, you have to buy the other path as DLC (not free). So if I buy the game alone and download the Hoshido path after I finish chapter 5, then to get the other path I have to buy it as DLC. Again the first path you choose isn’t charging you anything its free. The second one you choose is the one that costs money. Not sure about the middle one though. It said those who chose Hoshido will still be able to complete Middle Path. So does that mean Hoshido is the way to go to get Middle? Or is it just saying Hoshido will be easy so you don’t have to worry about the middle path?

    1. The gameplay seems to change quite a bit. The game was probably devolped by 2 different teams within Intelligent Systems. I see it as Pokemon. If you had the option to both, it would overfill the cartridge. Or the fact that it might not be different enough to keep the player invested just to complete the game. Therefore, full fledge games to make the fans want to see both sides of the story, without getting burned out on one game.

      1. That’s what I thought too. I think maybe they couldn’t fit both paths in one cartridge so they did it this way. But I also feel they could have done the Pokemon way. Like how they have one version and the other version.

        1. Given the advances in tech with cartridges, I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t fit all the data on it. If you can fit the entirety of an N64 Zelda game, or a Xenoblade game on a cartridge, I think they can do so for this.

            1. Eh. Given the amount of content in Xenoblade along with the graphics, I still think it’s a bigger game, or at the least Fire Emblem is comparable.
It’s not really something that can be verified, but agree to disagree at this point, I suppose.

              1. And it looks like 3DS cards can hold about 8gb – more than enough for plenty of games, Nintendo or otherwise.

                1. Proof!? It’s on the damn Japanese Fire Emblem if website!

                  http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/bfwj/

If you look under special edition it says, 一本になった特製ゲームカード which translates to “both games in one game cartridge”
And if you don’t believe that I can read Japanese, someone else translated the entire website and put it online. Here…

                  https://kantopia.wordpress.com/2015/04/02/fire-emblem-if-website-translation-422015/

gamerprince1999….”master of all knowledge”… more like fucking arrogant clown.

      2. How do you know what changes happen, especially concerning gameplay? The gameplay in Pokemon is exactly the same – the main difference is the number of Pokemon you can find in each game. And the dirty little secret about the Pokemon games that people don’t want to acknowledge is that they could easily combine the content in both versions to make one game, but they know that they’ll get some people to buy bother versions in order to get all Pokemon and that they’ll get more revenue by having 2 different versions.

    2. “Hoshido will be easy so you don’t have to worry about the middle path” – This probably
And maybe they decided to split it because both are as big as a normal game playthrough, and thus it’s fair to pay extra for more content. So instead of charging one cartridge for $50-60 bucks, split it into two for those that are okay with just playing one, and have a special edition with both on one cartridge for the die-hard fans.

  2. This is bad news, it is Nintendo locking out content that should be free. The way the game was originally advertised in the Direct suggested it is one game where you choose your path, finish it and then you can start over again, choosing the path you didn’t choose the first time around, without paying for it.

The third story is fine as DLC, as it wasn’t advertised in the original trailer.

What Nintendo has done with this game is appalling.

    1. Imagine Awakening,
Now imagine it three times the size
That’s what this game is with all three thirds

It’s just their way of saying ‘you don’t have to buy three games if you don’t want to;you can just choose one’

    2. They did not say that game would be one, they say that you have to choose a path which was literally. Beside the only thing we know that are the same is the first 5 chapters, then they would become two whole different story. We do not how different they will become until it is release in Japan but from they are saying that a single path is the same size of awakening.

    3. From what I gathered, the game is essentially split into 2 game (kinda like pokemon but more heavy on story per game), you buy the game, get up to chapter 5 where it splits, then you pay for which side you wanna play which will be the equivalent of buying which ever version you want from retail. Then once you’re finished, you can go back and play the other story which will be just as long give or take but you’ll probably pay less for the other game seen as you bought the other story first.

      1. No no no no no! You got it wrong! Once you first finish chapter 5, then you can get whatever path you want for free. Once you wanna play the other path, then you’ll have to pay for it. You only pay for one path and that’s the second one you want to choose.

        1. “You only pay for one path and that’s the second one you want to choose”

I don’t think so dude. Let’s say you pay for a $35 downloadable version. When you download it, it will only be 5 chapters. So let’s say you end up choosing Nohr, then you will have to download the rest of the chapters (free of course, cause you paid $35 for it already). THEN if you want to play the other path (Hoshido), you will have to pay for it like it’s DLC.

    4. Each “path” is it’s very own game. The only thing that is the same between the games are the first five chapters (which is a minimal amount of content compared to the entirety of a Fire Emblem game)

This is not Pokemon where you play the same game with a palate-swapped enemy (Team Aqua/Team Magma), each game is it’s own original experience with their own enemies, story-lines, etc.

  3. Whelp, unless a Game of the Year edition comes out their is no way in hell I’m buying any of this. Fuck content locking and fuck Nintendo for doing this.

    1. There is no lock content, it two completely different games just sharing the first five chapters( which is very small compare the whole game), setting and characters. This is not like Pokemon with just different versions of things but two completely different story and options. As stated above, the One path will be play very different from the other. The only bad thing is that they announce DLC before they even release the game.

    1. If you buy retail, you buy one game. If you buy digital, you buy one game and “choose your path.” You can buy the other version at retail and purchase the other version digitally through DLC. There is also a third version that will only be available as DLC.

All three versions are completely different games. They are not like Pokemon where you just switch sides. The beginning of each version will be the same, but they branch off very early into their own things. Basically, we are getting three Fire Emblem games.

  4. so disappointed with that content locking thing -_- so basically in the future, when 3ds support will be canceled or something like that this game will be just 5 chapters only Oo

  5. It’s basically this: Hoshido path is for those that entered the Fire Emblem series with Awakening and want to experience another game like it.
The Nohr path is for veteran players of Fire Emblem.

It’s really quite genius of IS actually. They’re trying to convert those who started with Awakening to see how Fire Emblem games really are with the Nohr path. And the DLC path in the middle of them is there for them to make the transition.
…That’s what I gather from it anyway.

  6. intelligent systems promised that each version of the game would have as much content as awakening. with three paths its like playing the awakening story three times, only each story will be different. also you have the choice to not buy any of the dlc for it, but i suspect most people will probably buy it anyways.

  7. It’s like they’re also experimenting by releasing these two games to see which gaming style they should take with Fire Emblem down the future. Awakening style (Hoshido), or the usual FE style (Nohr)

  8. I believe that this is just the Japanese version of the game. From what I’ve read, in America we will be getting the special version of the game where everything is included except the 3rd route DLC

  9. All of this seems really…experimental, I like the fact that they’re willing to take the FE series in other new directions after Awakening, I hope the dating sim portion will be back, that was tons of fun.

  10. Ridley, the Angel of Death

If this is as bad as it sounds, Awakening saved the Fire Emblem franchise only for this new game to fuck it all up! If that’s the case, great fucking job, Intelligent Systems! Nice going saving the franchise only to fuck it up with the next game in the series! *slow fucking clap* Hopefully later emails will link me to an article that better explains this shit & makes it sound less terrible.
