Nikkei Estimates Nintendo Will Post 25 Billion Yen Operating Profit For Last Financial Year

Time for some numbers! Japanese outlet Nikkei has shed some light on what we can expect from next week’s official financial results from Nintendo. They report that Nintendo is estimated to post an operating profit of 25 billion yen for the latest financial year, finishing March 2015, after their previous forecast of 20 billion yen. This is a significant change to the financial year before that, where they posted a 46.4 billion yen operating profit loss. Despite the Wii U’s poor sales– particularly in Japan– Nikkei reckons this is due to the popularity of the Super Smash Bros. and Yo-Kai Watch games, and the overseas launch of the New 3DS.

In terms of net sales, Nintendo expected to reach 550 billion yen by the end of March, which Nikkei believes is likely. The profit of which they expect to be around 30 billion yen, but it’s likely this could end up being more due to the foreign exchange rate and cheap yen value. Considering the same period last year Nintendo posted a 23.2 billion yen net loss, this looks likely to be a good financial year for Nintendo. But we’ll know for sure next week when the official figures are out!

    >>>Excellent, the empire will rise once again even if I don’t like that new mobile infantry unit>>>

                    >>>With the condition of the PC Master Race getting a share, no thanks>>>

                    1. Would be nice playing Zelda and other third party games all in one place though. (In addition to the extra power from PC hardware making it look even better) Ahh, I can only dream… Honestly, Wii U’s games look great and I wish I could play them, but I’m done supporting Nintendo until they fix their issues. I don’t care how good Zelda U and Star Fox are if the Wii U still has region lock and accounts tied to the console. Because that’s pretty stupid.

                        >>>Besides region lock and the one thing I also don’t like, the tied accounts, people will never understand that Nintendo will always be for Nintendo, the rest is secondary objectives>>>

                        >>>The only thing I want is for them to increase their production rate and if they don’t have real plans to utilizing their new controllers, then don’t make such controllers>>>

                        1. Well, the main problems I have with them are the tied accounts. Seriously, that is so annoying. I had been stuck with the same white Wii U since launch and I wanted to sell that one for a newer black one, but couldn’t because my freaking games would get lost. And if anything had happened to my Wii U, I would’ve been ultimately screwed because I planned on downloading all my games. Not cool. And there was also that situation where my Wii U wasn’t working and I wanted to just buy a new one. But once again, I couldn’t because I would’ve lost all my games. As for region lock on Nintendo systems, that has GOT to go. Sick and tired of seeing Nintendo UK get awesome stuff and even collector’s editions sometimes. And don’t forget about the standard New 3DS. Wouldn’t have even been an issue if region lock wasn’t there. Those two problems alone prevent me from fully enjoying a Nintendo system. I want to download all my games but can’t because of that big glaring issue. Accounts tied to the hardware!!! Once Nintendo gets these fixed, I’ll gladly buy their stuff again. As for third party, that used to be a huge issue for me since I only played Nintendo. Yes, they still do need to fix that for people that only play on Nintendo! I don’t care much though cause I have PS4 and eventually PC though. :P

                            >>>Well I hope their new “CN” is a worldwide thing this time, Scandinavia has been missing out since 2005 and we should get something big free of charge and points at the beginning of the new system>>>

                            >>>But indeed, they should make things better with the accounts, at least make it so much easier to get your things back if your system breaks>>>

            1. Not gonna happen. If you expect Zelda then give it up. You can always ILLEGALLY emulate tho. But if you’re a real fan you’ll play on the 3DS and Wii U.

              1. Dont think there is emulator for wii u yet.
Most probably there will be ones for PS4 and xbone, since the architecture is same, and requires less from PC than to emulate PPC.

            2. The concept of home console is plug-and-play. With PC, you will need to install and upgrade your drivers, have high-end enthusiast processor, and mid-range graphics card to play games in 1080p @ 60 fps. To crank it up even higher, you will need high-end graphics card such as GTX 980(possibly in SLI) or GTX Titan X.

Nintendo’s main audiences are children. There’s no way children can afford expensive high-end PC just to game. Well only exception to that is if they have rich parents.

          1. Give it a chance, exposure is exposure, and as long as they dont abandon the dedicated devices I am extreamly supportive of the DeNA Nintendo merger and their foray into mobile.

            1. More like-
              3DS-¥¥¥
              Wii U-¥
              Amiibo-¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥
              :D

        1. Positive news related to Nintendo’s earnings??? What is this???
So Haters and Trolls, are Nintendo STILL Doomed???

          1. In all seriousness, it’s just speculation. But with how well the Amiibo have been selling since launch, I wouldn’t be surprised. Nintendo has found ANOTHER Goldmine…

        2. Good, Nintendo needs more money so they can make better games, and better systems. I think Nintendo is the best video game company and deserves much more popularity, but have recently earned a bad reputation, that’s not very fair. The fact is people are very fickle, they used to love Nintendo, nintendo used to be the top seller. Then one day people decided that Nintendo was for babies, and everyone else went with it. Nintendo comes up with much more unique, and new games like splatoon, while Microsoft and Sony give you the same old games like black ops 3, with the same concepts and call it a brand new idea. Whereas Nintendo does new Zeldas like windwaker vs skyward sword which are completely different.

          1. I have to agree. One thing I don’t like when gamers say Nintendo says rehashes games all the times. I ask what about some Sony and MS games like Uncharted 1-3 or Dead Space 1-3. Halo, The only thing that really changes is the story with a slight upgrade in graphics and a tweak to the gameplay. and I don’t hate on those cause I own all of them but what I don’t get is the double standard people have these days

            1. Yah, people hate on Nintendo for things there supposedly doing wrong when Microsoft and Sony are doing them so much more often. Darn there double standards.

            2. Yeah, and Nintendo usually releases only one iteration per console, where as we get third party games like Assassin’s Creed and CoD yearly, or first party games like Uncharted 3 times per console.

          1. With Amiibo, the only Impossible, is finding the ones you really want. When it comes to making money, Amiibo makes it possible

              1. No that’s Microsoft with cod b 3, and there billions of Forza games that are all the same. Not to mention halo.

              2. I’m stupid for understanding that Nintendo is making money with Amiibo??? Yeah, that makes sense…

              3. What’s on ps4?? Same old assassins creed, Fifa, tiger woods, madden, little big planet, c.o.d, gran turismo, drakes unchartered, nhl hockey, etc. YES SAME OLD PLAYSTATION SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

                1. People like repetition. They’re afraid of new trends.

Well keep in mind most Mario games are quite similar. Princess Peach gets kidnapped and Mario saves her.

        3. Restock amiibo and they’ll be swimming in money. Have as many games as the 3DS for the Wii U with the inclusion of third parties and people will actually buy the console. Produced much wanted franchises and you’ll be abke to regain many lost fans. Love Nintendo as always, but Nintendo has the codes to the vault and simply won’t put them in. Nintendo wishes to be known as the family-friendly company, but that brand is keeping them on crutches and preventing them to do what fans really want them to.

          1. Well I don’t want them to make M rated games for stuipid reasons like nudity and swearing every five seconds. They need to be family friendly up to a point, but I’m not against them making more mature games, as long as there not inappropriate. Them putting things like that in them makes the game less desirable, and puts off many buyers like myself. I never buy any games like GTA even though I love the concept, but they put so much crap in there I won’t.

            1. I want them to make or get more M rated games like No More Heroes, Madworld, ZombiU, Bayonetta, Devil Third, Eternal Darkness, Darksiders, Resident evil (good ones).

            2. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a huge fan of those ridiculous rated M games with nothing but women degradation and swearing, but Nintendo’s family friendly type mind set has got in the way for some of their older fans. Splatoon for example, Nintendo got rid of voice chat to protect their younger gamers and pissed off all the older ones. I don’t use voice chat so it didn’t matter to me, but all the riots show it mattered to a LOT of people. These people could be future Nintendo consumers, but once again Nintendo has pushed them away trying to be family friendly. And Nintendo can be family friendly and make GREAT games: DKC:TF, SM3DW, Pokemon, MK8, and even Smash. Still it wouldn’t kill them to slap some M/T ratings on a game’s box art instead of watering the game down. FE:A had many racy conversations in the JP version, but they were deleted and watered down to appeal to all audiences for all the other countries. If 8-12 year olds are swearing and killing in video games on all the other consoles I don’t understand why Nintendo still feels the need to skimp some of their games (whether if by difficulty, graphics, content, or whatever the case) for a “family friendly” audience. Again games aimed toward the “family friendly” crowd aren’t bad at all (I have tons) and can still appeal to ages 12+, but it starts becoming a problem when some features/content are missing for the sake of that small audience.

                1. But if it’s not there at all, then that’s the problem. I have the same mindset. All I want, as well as most gamers, are options and for some things Nintendo is good with that. For example the special invincible items in Mario, Yoshi, and Kirby games.

              1. As one of those potential buyers, it completely turns me off to wanting the system. I played halo online for years, even won $80 bucks once in a small time tournament. The voice chat with team mates and lobby people was normally great. You always had the immature kids and no life wasters that just want to start shit but it was always fun. People get so touchy over the voice chat when it should just be an option that can be turned off. Problem solved, parents can do THEIR jobs and the older generations could enjoy the maturity that they/we feel deserved. Its something I’ve been paying attention to for years, Nintendo. Nintendo has this issue with not being able to target older generations without also still keeping that child mind image. My thing is, by now in this day and age, doesn’t everyone know Nintendo is THAT company? I mean, isn’t it obvious? Super high, my bad.

                1. No it’s alright, you make valid points afterall. Nintendo holds their older fans back in an effort to appeal to the younger one, but in reality Nintendo makes more money off their older, dedicated crowd than the young casual crowd. It’s annoying how Nintendo still shafts us despite us being the ones who probably give them most of their money and supports them the most.

        4. Look at the operating cost of the company and then the profit… Then take into account the exchange rate for yen….

You morons think they’re doing a lot better than they actually are, don’t you?

              1. Its sad to think 25 billion dollars. Money is so fokkd up, but its inescapable. Im just glad I don’t serve money.

          1. I still don’t consider “New Nintendo 3DS” to be a good name for the thing. Why not Super 3DS or Hyper 3DS or even 3DS Advance(d)? Much less confusing.

            1. 3DNES was what I thought for it. And they would have implemented more SNES and NES games for the eShop. But sadly, it’s looking like we might not get any more. Which completely bums me out about the handheld generation we’re in. No reason I shouldn’t be able to play Super Mario World on my 3DS, at least none that I can see. I heard it can’t run or do the games or something, but I don’t believe it. Idk, how the hell could it not? GAAAH!!!!!
