Creators Of Banjo-Kazooie Bring Us New Characters Yooka-Laylee

The creative veterans behind Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, under the developer Rare, have come together to form brand new developer, Playtonic Games. You might have heard about their first project previously known as Project Ukelele, which has now been unveiled as Yooka-Laylee! (Sound familiar?) You can check out gameplay footage of the new bright, colourful 3D platformer featuring Yooka the Chameleon, and Laylee the Bat– who have specific skills to help you get through the levels. Yooka can use his chameleon tongue as a grapple hook, and Laylee can briefly carry Yooka and fly or unleash sonar blasts. They look like a great, adorable team!

Do you like the look of this game? You can help make it happen when they launch their Kickstarter tomorrow! All backers can receive a copy of the game when it’s finished for £10/$15, and they’re planning further extras like soundtracks, art-books and even a special ’64-bit’ version, so you feel like you could actually be playing the Nintendo 64. If it reaches its goal, it’ll be releasing on Windows, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U at various times depending on the fundraising. This already looks really promising, and will be one to keep an eye out for!

  1. Is this the same game they were working on? What happened to the blue oracle creature and the red brute thing?

    1. Most likely enemy designs. Those were never teased as the main characters, just a glimpse at the art direction.

          1. I liked them more than the bat and gecko team. But its cool, doesn’t bother me anyway. I’ve got way to many games to finish at the moment.

  2. I will be putting some of my money behind this project because I absolutely adored Banjo-Kazooie. It’s a given it’ll be coming to Nintendo platforms because Playtonic Games knows Nintendo fans still appreciate great platformers

    1. It’s coming to wii u andy robinson one of the guys working on it told me on twitter it’s coming to wii u

  3. So no clothes at all this time? I guess pants wouldn’t have worked as well as they did with Banjo, but I was kinda expecting at least one accessory. Still great designs, though.

Because when we throw money at Africa it goes to ALL the right places, right? African gangs and militants don’t steal from the people who need the money and take it for themselves.

It would be silly to think that.

      1. SO TRUE! I went to Nigeria back in August 2013 and came back a year later (yeah my parents are from there XD but I was born and raised here in Texas) and everyone is a money whore. They would do ANYTHING for money! Whether it’s murder some one or just right out beg. Every time on the road EVERYONE you see will be trying to sell you something. Yeah that’s right! People will be on highways and roads trying to sell you stuff! It could be anything that they’re trying to sell you too! They could be selling snacks, food, magazines, books, DVD movies, freaking glasses, car equipment, phone equipment and more! IT”S CRAZY! I was so happy to come back to America! btw If you’re American over there, everyone will think you’re rich. Like they’ll think you have a lot of money. At school its good because everyone looks up to you but it could also be bad thing because people could kidnap you and pester your parents to pay a lot of money JUST because you’re from America and they think you’re rich… Its such a fucked up country… And the president does nothing for the country either… He’s a money whore too like the entire country itself.

        1. Dude, America is just as bad. People hate America because its largely a joke. Freedom of speech, yet you’re not allowed to personally feel and have opinions without being told its wrong. Kids in America exclude children they don’t deem necessary or cool or pick on and belittle to the point kids kill themselves and other kids. We have some of the largest gangs that dont give a shit if your American or not. A country built on the laws of God, yet God seems to be the one thing America goes against if it happens to take away from their pleasure or joy. People get away with getting government aid and help when they dont even need it. Doctors don’t help people if they aren’t waving money in front of their face,(I’ve been trying to get a doctor or hospital to check my mothers broken shoulder cuff (I think its called), so far 5 places have refused to even touch the injury location to feel the bone thats almost jutting from the top of her shoulder). America literally has parents RAISING gay children. (And before anyone gives me shit over that, I dont give a fuck, its truth and the truth hurts). America has all the same stuff you said, plus way worse. I live in Texas too bro, I dont enjoy texas, its one of the few Fire at Will states. You could literally be having the best day on earth at work and could get fired from your job without warning or reason. Really what you described doesn’t sound far from home.

          Legalize and decriminalize marijuana!

          Peace.

          1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

*holds up hand* Question. What exactly are they supposed to do with the gay kids? Kick them onto the streets? I think God would be more disgusted with that than raising them. *notices the “I live in Texas” part* Oh… ._.

  4. This is looking amazing. I’ll probably buy it for both PC and Wii U, assuming it meets its goals. I want to support this as much as possible, it’s looking like they’re really putting a lot of passion into this. This was only 3 months of work?! Crazy awesome. This will be the first kickstarter I’m backing.

  5. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Just watch it once it’s released, the same cattle groups praising this game will bash it later>>>

  6. Hopefully that awesome sounding “64-bit version” isn’t only for people that help with the kickstarter and is included in the full game like the retro soundtrack that Mighty No.9 is getting.

  7. Wouldn’t it be nice if Nintendo had real competition in 3D platforming for the first time in a decade. The game basically just looks like Banjo-Kazooie reskinned, but for a series that hasn’t had a good entry since 2000 I think we’ll take it.

  8. This looks fucking amazing… This game, A Hat in Time, and that one game with the girl taking pictures that freezes stuff (I forgot the name so someone please tell me if you know btw) are all gonna be awesome 3D Platformers for the Wii U! I like how it’s getting a lot of these games!

        1. Honestly though, I hope it does. It looks great and I’ll be playing it when it releases on PC, but you Wii U guys deserve to play it too.

                1. LMAO. WTF? That looks horrible. XD It’s probably gonna take quite some time before it comes to any console looking like that. God, that is terrifying. LOL.

                  1. Wow I didn’t even know what the article was about but now I do and now I was wrong about it having a better chance of it coming to Wii U… Jesus christ that’s terrible… So bad it looks scary… I agree with you. It’s probably best if they focus on the PC/Mac version first before moving on to consoles. I wouldn’t mind that at all.

                    1. But seriously though, they are considering bringing it to Wii U. The key word here being “considering”. I hope Nintendo fans didn’t spend lots of their money in hopes of a Wii U version because Gears For Breakfast never guranteed a Wii U port would happen. Then of course, Nintendo fans would do what they always do. They’d say the game is trash and that the developer sucks. Lol.

  9. Why wasn’t this guy around when Donkey Kong Country returns was being made? :/ Hell even its sequel was good but without his artstyle, it makes me go… ahhhhhhhhh!

    1. Art style? Dude, DKC:TF looks amazing and you wanted old 3D rendered graphics cuz you’re nostalgic. Please. It’s like saying you want 8-bit graphics for NSMB. Please.

If you can get a physical release of the game from the kickstarter. I’m all in!!! If it is just digital… might be worth waiting, like with Mighty No. 9 which is going physical years after the kickstarter.
