The previously unknown and mysterious Project Ukelele, born from Banjo-Kazooie masterminds, was revealed yesterday as a brand new 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee. Now, we can see some gameplay footage of Yooka and Laylee in action in their colouful, cartoon world. Yooka-Laylee, launched on Kickstarter today, needs to raise £175,000– well, its already made £134,575* and is going up and up and up by the second. It’s quite interesting to watch! Between the music and game style, seems like this game is a perfect mash-up of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, but with a refreshing modern twist. What do you think of the game– spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, or too similar and a bit of a cop out?
*As I was writing this it actually smashed its goal and is into the £200,000’s, insane!
rofl now it has over 300k
940k and still rising at this moment. Totally not a copy out, 1000% all the best parts of the games that are still worth playing today, exactly what we want.
So where’s the gameplay? Is it the same gameplay from yesterday?
Nope, there’s a lot more to see. ign posted it up in a newer video today.
Great, thanks. I was just kinda confused since the title of the article implied we’d get to see gameplay, but talks about the kickstarter instead.
Can’t find the new gameplay on IGN’s channel.
At the beginning of this article, click the underlined “gameplay footage.”
Thanks!
I saw in my Subscriptions but after I checked again. It wasn’t there. IGN took it down for some reason
Here’s the gameplay footage http://uk.ign.com/videos/2015/05/01/why-yooka-laylee-is-basically-banjo-kazooie-3 We can’t embed the IGN player and I can’t see the video on YouTube yet. If anyone has a link please post it and I will add it to Jacky’s post.
Yeah I think IGN took down that video from this morning. Not sure why.
Video added to the post! Sorry for any confusion!
Oh you didn’t have to! But thanks! I’ll watch in 8th period! Right now I’m in lunch
Thanks sickr!
Backed the signed Boxed Edition of the game. Why? Hell, because I will never see the developers in real life!!
So the bat character has a baboon’s ass on his face.
I didn’t know baboon asses had nostrils.
And yet you know that I’m talking about it’s nose. From a distance it might as well be. What is up with having such a bright red swollen-looking nose reminiscent of a baboon’s bright red ass?
Eh, I guess they needed something to make the bat stand out.
It is obnoxiously red like a baboon’s ass
It’s already reached it’s goal, and I gave them £350 for the Retro N64 version of the game with the PC and Wii U versions of the game + the demo :D
That is a VERY expensive pledge you made there. $535 is half of what I make over the summer doing summer camp.
Well I’ve been saving up for the game with my student loans so I can afford it.
I was thinking about doing that too but went with the $87 option. Hoping they add a physical wii u version.
I can already tell this is going to be a quality game.
Well look at Shovel Knight, it did the same thing and that game was fantastic!
At least they should some gameplay that looks like it’s almost done instead of some random concept art.
Watch it out do AAA games
>>>This is way too civilian and empty for being so colourful>>>
Oooohh. That £350 tier looks sweet!
I know, right?
Its freaking tempting
Wow if this game somehow reaches all it’stretch goals, it might actually out do AAA games
The stretch goals didn’t seem that incredible to me. New languages? I speak English, so that doesn’t affect me. Tons of local-multiplayer modes? I don’t really play local multiplayer. Mine-cart sections? Not really a huge fan of those.
They already hit the more interesting one, for me, which includes adding boss battles at the end of each level. Only other one that seems cool is being able to transform into “unexpected things.” And, I’m sure they will hit that goal in the next few hours or so without my help.
But, as a game in itself. It will most certainly outdo most AAA games.
I’m guessing you’re not getting Splatoon?
I checked out the kickstarter and it’s not very enticing. I’ve never supported a kickstarter before, but I was hoping for a physical artbook or physical version of the game. As it stands, I wouldn’t even be able to run the game on my computer, so I wouldn’t want and electronic PC version and the version for a console is more expensive and electronic as well.
Might as well just wait for the game to come out and just buy it normally.
I also think an electric-version of an artbook is kind of stupid. The whole point of an artbook, for me, is to be able to physically flip through the pages to view art and place the book on your shelf. I can view the artwork online anyway, as I’m sure people will post pictures.
I agree with you
I’m glad.
Look through the kickstarter page carefully. In one section, it mentions you do get a physical copy for putting in a certain amount of money.
Lol
Has over 376k now! Wow!

The ability to turn into unexpected things? *Immediately thinks of laundry machine that shoots out socks in Banjo Tooie*
The kickstarter project is printing money!
They’ll probably have a few million by the end of the campaign.
Almost 500K……
WHAT THE FUCK?!?! IT’S ALREADY ALMOST AT 1MILLION
It’s half-way to 1 million xD
I plegded x) So I feel good about it xD
For me its at 800,000 USD
Cool… I hope we see this coming to a Wii-U platform.
Nintendo, give these guys some love! You fucked up last time letting Rare slip through your fingers!
30 from me, hope they get a Wii U port on launch
The fps joke was too good! ;D
It’s over 9000!!!! (Nobody used that yet??)
As much as people liked to say it, many have come to realize they say the same thing in Dragon Ball Z, so yeaah…
…..
You know, the anime show that was shown on TV?
I know what it is lol still confused by your comment
I hope this is also a physical Wii U release. Because if it’s not, it’s all a waste of effort.
