The comic adaptation of Shotaro Ishinomori’s original pages of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past– published in 1992 through Nintendo Power– have been republished. It’s a refreshing difference to the current manga scene, by offering classic 90’s style artwork that will be sure to fill you up with nostalgia. IGN UK have provided a review of the graphic novel, and apart from an apparently anti-climatic ending, the comic is done really well and gives a bit of personality to Link’s character– a worthy tribute to the legendary game. Will you be picking up a copy?
Adaptations to another medium always bear the burden of expectations. But the graphic novel of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past strikes a fine balance between rehashing the story of a video game and building its own take on this epic Hyrule Adventure. Ishinomori’s interpretation of Link and Hyrule has significant voice and personality. Even though the ending is abrupt, it’s not hard to enjoy this effort to transfer the video game story to an epic comic book adventure.
