Nintendo Makes Plans For Next Fiscal Year, Including More Mario Kart 8 DLC

Upon the release of their latest financial results, Nintendo estimate they will make a net income of 35 billion yen with 570 billion yen in net sales in the next fiscal year, and have outlined exactly how they plan to do that. In their report, they talk about introducing more DLC for Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros., along with the release of other new titles like Rhythm Tengoku. They mention the release of new amiibo cards and yarn amiibo to add to the amiibo lineup, and expanding their compatibility to Nintendo 3DS systems with the NFC Reader/Writer. The upcoming year looks like an exciting one for Nintendo! See part of the full statement:

“For “Nintendo 3DS” and “Wii U,” in addition to maintaining the performance of already-released titles with strong sales potential, new titles will continue to be introduced in order to further expand the installed bases. Specifically, by sequentially introducing additional download content for blockbuster titles such as “Mario Kart 8″ and “Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U,” we aim to keep these titles played more actively. For “Nintendo 3DS,” the exclusive “New Nintendo 3DS/New Nintendo 3DS XL” title “Xenoblade Chronicles 3D,” and other first party titles such as “Rhythm Tengoku (temp.)” and “New Fire Emblem Game (temp.)” will be released. In addition, a number of key titles from thirdparty publishers are scheduled for release. For “Wii U,” in addition to titles such as “Splatoon” and “Yoshi’s Woolly World,” “Mario Maker (temp.)” which offers a new taste to the 2D Mario series will be released this year marking the 30th year since the launch of the original “Super Mario Bros.” game.

Meanwhile, for “amiibo,” which was launched last year, new “amiibo” cards and yarn-knitted “amiibo” will be added to the “amiibo” lineup. We aim to stimulate demand for “amiibo” by expanding compatible software titles and by releasing the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS. In addition, a new source of revenue is expected from a gaming application for smart devices which will be released this year.”

  1. “In addition, a new source of revenue is expected from a gaming application for smart devices which will be released this year.” Interesting!

    1. I would say “Yes” to that, but I’d prefer an original 3D Mario play former akin more to Galaxy and Sunshine, since the last two 3D Mario games have been in the same style in 3D Land and 3D World. I would actually be fine with Super Mario 3D World DLC to add some new worlds with a lot of new levels (AND MUSIC TRACKS!) as long as it was about as good of a deal as MK8’s DLC.

    2. The nintendo magistrate

Please no more Mario titles, we’ve got 4 on the system already give other games a chance plus Nintendo themselves feel there’s enough mario content on wii u so if your that desperte for mario get the puzzle and dragons game on the 3ds or wait for the mario maker

  2. Extra DLC for MK8 would be excellent, as long as they keep the superb pricing structure they had for the first 2!

    1. I’m really glad they are adding more dlc to mk but I’m kinda burned out on mk8 I haven barely played the second dlc pack. I’ll probably still buy the dlc anyhow

      1. I hope it adds other elements not just levels, characters, and cart parts. It would also be nice to see new modes, new items, and maybe Mario kart amiibo (characters in a cart, like a hotwhees toyl)

        1. Well, we got 200cc, and I kinda consider that a new game mode.

But yeah, Mario Kart versions of the Mario (and Link and Villager) cast as amiibos would be great. Mostly, I just hope the upcoming planned set adds Captain Falcon as a playable character.

  3. “We aim to stimulate demand for “amiibo”.”

Well they better get to supplying them decently first.

Other than that, this all sounds good. Would love more MK8 and Smash DLC.

    1. Yeah i hope so too: Special Stages and remakes from Mk: Double Dash; also I would want the shine theft mode back! Please Nintendo make it happen…

  4. So far, what i will be getting for sure:
    All MK8 dlc
    all Smash Bros Stage/Fighter dlc
    Splatoom
    Dark Pit & Palutena amiibo
Complete collection of the new fire emblem (all 3 sides)
Yeah my list is gonna cost a lot of money over 200 dollars worth of yummy nitnendo goodness

    1. I think they wrapped that up with the Ganon pack a couple months ago. Koei Tecmo has announced nothing since then so I think they’re done.

There are only two types of DLC I want for Mario Kart 8. More characters we actually want (Diddy, Birdo, E Gad, King Boo, Nabit and Bowser Jr.) and proper Battle Mode arenas. Seriously.

    1. I thought I was the only person who wanted E. Gadd as a racer. Finally I’m not alone!

If there are any more retro tracks for future DLC, what tracks would you want?

  6. I hope they add Mario Party 10 to that DLC list to fix it and add more boards and play modes to an otherwise boring gaming experience.

  7. For real to anyone that said a real battle mode or fix the battle mode with arenas as it was supposed to be. Thank you!!! I totally agree, you hear us nintendo? fix it!

  8. I would love to see new Mario Kart 8 DLC, especially a revamped battle mode. I would love a Pokemon, Metroid, or EarthBound/Mother themed DLC, too! I also really want Rhythm Tengoku to come to the West! I love Rhythm Heaven!

  10. Guys why not captain falcon for pack 3 or 4 dude I’m so gonna buy all Mario kart 8 and smash Wii u and 3ds all dlc for both versions

  11. Extra DLC for Mario Kart 8? They better be working on proper battle mode tracks cause that’s the only thing keeping MK8 to be the best in the series

  12. I hope they add DLC for these games: Mario Kart 8 (New battle arenas), Super Mario 3D World (new worlds, stages and possibly a character), Nintendo Land (minigames and online play), Smash (everything), and MARIO PARTY 10 (New mode bringing back a board that plays like the old mario parties, and new minigames, also crossovers!!).

    Dear Sakurai:

Alternate costumes for Smash fighters would be fucking well appreciated since you had a moment of laziness & gave us palette swaps of alternate designs to a character’s suit. Like what you did with Samus’s Light Suit, Dark Suit, & Fusion Suit. I want the actual fucking power suit designs! I don’t care if you have to change the hitboxes! Get someone else to work on that if you are too lazy to do it, Sakurai! It’s called delegating! Do it! You won’t be alive forever so someone is going to have to take over the reigns for the franchise at some point! Unless you actually believe Nintendo is going to let that cash cow die when you do. Hah! Fat chance of that! Miyamoto’s done it with Zelda when he let Aonuma assist & eventually gave control of the franchise to him! I know you have pride in what you do but look at the state of your health because of that pride. Quit being an idiot!

    With love,
    Ridley X3
