Watching the progress of Yooka-Laylee on their Kickstarter has been astonishing. It reached its initial funding goal of £175,000 within 40 minutes, and had surpassed their utmost stretch goal of £1,000,000 within a day. They’ve since added new stretch goals and funding has slowed significantly, but most certainly hasn’t stopped. Now sitting on £1,586,872 it has become the most funded UK game on Kickstarter ever, taking the title from Elite Dangerous. And with still 33 days to go, its got plenty of time to keep going up and up and up. Their next stretch goal of £2,000,000 promises releases of DLC after the game has been finished and released. I hope people don’t set their expectations too high for this game. It will be great, don’t get me wrong, and I have already pledged my money and got a reserved copy. Really looking forward to it.
But it’s not gonna be Mario Galaxy good. Or even close to Mario 3d games standards. I have a feeling some people are hyping it up like it will, but I assure you it will not…
If it’s like Banjo-Kazooie than it will be. The Banjo games were great.
They were great, but they were also fully fledged console games. Not kickstarter side project games.
It probably cost 100 million to make Mario 3d World for the Wii U. Yooka-Laylee has 1.5 million. I’m all for the underdog, don’t get me wrong. And I’m sure it will be a great game. Just not a full fledged console game… Hopefully im wrong…
This isn’t just some “kickstarter side game.” They were going to make this game with or without kickstarter. The website was only to help move things along faster and to help get the community involved.
This game is going to be big, wonderful and well worth the money. It isn’t a big budget that makes an amazing game. I seriously doubt Mario 3D World cost $100 million to make, but even if it did, a $1.5 million budgeted game could be just as superior in terms of game play, story-line, character, etc.
When you compare a $100 million budgeted game to a $1.5 million budgeted game, all that I know for sure is one company wasted a LOT of money.
