Japan: Nintendo 3DS Sells 16K, Wii U Sells 6K

The latest charts from Japan courtesy of Media Create have arrived, and it hasn’t been a great week for sales. The PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy X is a brand new entry that has taken the top spot, but only with 15,913 sales. Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is still the top selling Nintendo 3DS game, and Mario Kart 8 is the top selling Wii U game. However, console sales have dropped significantly from last week, with the Nintendo 3DS falling from 26K to 16K and Wii U dropping back down to 6K from 11K. Take a look at the charts yourself and see what you think:

It’s back to the happy 6000’s. And that’s where it shall stay until the Splatoon craze begins.

  1. Apparently nobody wants consoles this week. Wii U is selling worse than the PS4 but the Wii U games are selling about the same. What gives? Apparently Wii U owners are really dedicated. Just goes to show how good Nintendo games really are.

    1. 1. Overall or just in Japan
      2. I looked it up some time ago on Wikipedia and it was behind by a year I think but the wiI u has sold 35 or more million games which is good

                  1. There’s also console exclusive games that will only come to PS4 and Xbox One. But not PC. Just like how Red Dead Redemption is PS3 and 360, not PC.

        1. and yet. Its a few million units ahead of wiiu. Considering XBOX is completely non existent in Japan. That speaks volumes

            >>>I don’t care if it’s ahead, any small positive news about Xbots failing is a welcome news>>>

MK8’s sales are Japan is approaching 1 million. And Xenoblade X sold over 100000 copies so far.

Sickening sales for all… especially for the plain OG (not New) 3DS, which saw its hardware sales in Japan fall to just three digits (for the first time ever in its lifespan?).

Meanwhile, Code Name S.T.E.A.M. sold only 1835 physical copies (according to Famitsu; the game was placed 19th there but outside the MC top 20) in Japan (one of the worst debuts for a first-party retail 3DS game in Japan confirmed?)… and even

Golden Week 2015 = one of the worst Golden Weeks in the Japanese video gaming industry (not counting arcades and mobiles) sales-wise confirmed.

  3. Xb1 is the worst console ever worse then 360.

Wii and ps3 out sold 360.

    Ps2 out sold xbox

    Ps4 is killing xb1

Xb still don’t have a handheld

Xb still doesn’t have a mascot

Xbox brand has lost Microsoft over 8 billion dollars. . . . Lol

    1. @Wariopaint.
      PS2 outsold EVERYTHING fucknut
PS4 is Killing XB1. XB1 is killing WiiU
      XB doesn’t have a handheld…… so what
      XB mascot….is Masterchief, moron.
XB brand has lost MS $8b. MS’s warchest is still bigger than Nintendo’s.

  4. well i guess nintendo sells not going well as they plan but my guess is i hope that game sells well for them so they can make better profit and also the white Wii U did not sell in 2013 because people wanted to go with the black Wii U but still why did they mention the xbox on this post?

  5. well there sells are not going well as they thought but this is just a huge mess for nintendo

  6. Still the best console on the market.

But what does a xbox fanboy thats never owned a xbox say about a 8 billion dollar lost . . . .

  7. SONY EMPEROR XPERIA

According to leaked NPD numbers, the Wii U sold just
43,000 units in April 2015, compared to PS4 sales of
175,000 units, and Xbox One sales of 187,000 units. The
Wii U accounted for just 10% of current generation
    console sales.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

Just goes to show how important marketing is, PS4 launched with a $1billion ad campaign, Microsoft had to basically take over Amazon during black friday to reach 10M xbones sold. Nintendo spent about $7.50 on their marketing.

2014 was pretty terrible in terms of software, so people aren’t buying these machines to play anything other than CoD, FIFA AC and of course Nintendo games on Nintendo platforms.

          1. Maybe he’ll sabotage it and when Nintendo is in shambles, Koopa King Bowser will reveal himself by taking off his human suit. IT WAS HIM ALL ALONG!

(Kidding. Hopefully he helps reinvigorate their marketing)

            1. Nintendo Lieutenant Cereza

Or at the very least, throw in some new ideas. The commercials have been soooo blaaaah. The only serious one I remember is Bayonetta 2. Then again, I think if they went a little crazy, it would have been suitable.

          2. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

Nintendo have had a few different people in charge of promotions over the last few years, I think the problem is budget not personal.

        1. Reality is Dolphin Revolutionized Cafe NX

I believe the bad marketing is the biggest reason why WiiU has done so poorly, just look at Ps4, just one good exclusive and ONE has better exclusives and same multiplats, while WiiU has the best exclusives and yet Psoverhyped4 sells most.

          1. If the PS4 really was all about hype, it would have stopped selling a long time ago. Hype isn’t something that stays for one and a half years after the release of a product, it’s something that builds up in anticipation of a product. If the initial success was based on pure hype, sales will plummet quickly. If, however, the product continues selling well, there are other reasons for the success. Explaining the huge success of the PS4 with hype alone is a lazy excuse, honestly.
And saying the XB1 has better exclusives is just your subjective opinion.

  8. Its sad that ps4 and xb1 are last gen consoles with last gen games asscreed cod gta battlefield sports and ugly dull wannabe rpgs that are hack and slashers with a lvl system.

Hahahahahahahahahahhahajahahahaha for 500 bucks hahahahahahahahahaya 60 dollar games with passes making them 100 dollars XD lol thats funny.

  9. Wow, I hope Nintendo announces a price drop at E3. They really need to suck it up, take a hit, and move some fucking units.

    1. A price drop, AGAIN?! It’s already way lower than the other consoles, and comes with 1or2 games. I think Nintendo needs a new console, one with more power, and some more bells and whistles. One that’s much more powerful than Xbone and PS4, one that will be on par or better than the PS5 and the XB2. One with 3rd party friendly architecture. That’s what would really increase sales. Though I’m happy with my Wii U, I want this to come true to increase sales, and I would like a better system. Still happy with Wii U, but why not be better.

      1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

The Power/architecture thing is an utter fallacy, people buy playstation and xbox for third party games. Sony and MS need third party way more than Nintendo do, so they have to appease third parties to keep them there, hence having to adopt PC architecture.
It’s all about money and power, in the 90’s the console manufactures had the power, now 3rd parties hold the monopoly.

They can put their games on Wii U, it’s powerful enough and no more difficult to work with than the other systems. The problem though is that they have to compete with Nintendo on that system .

      1. I think Splatoon can help sales. But yea I don’t see any price drops during the Wii U’s lifespan.

        1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

More reason not to drop the price then, we don’t even know what they’re showing at E3

                1. Yes profit does equal sale but game companies recoup from hardware losses with Software. They’ve done it in the pass and in the long run its helped them.

Look at the PS4. Sony launched the PS4 and sold it at a loss, but with every game sold and membership bought, they made their money back and then some.

                  1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

Sony are not doing that well as people seem to think with the PS4, they’re making a slim profit on it, membership actually covers PSN as they would obviously lose money offering it for free (again see PS3). As for software, yes their own IPs but you really think that Sony are getting a good licensing deal out of EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc?

Dropping the price of the Wii U would not be a good idea before the release of Splatoon, especially as Splatoon has the potential to shift units. Plus we don’t even know what’s going to be unveiled at E3, yet.

    2. Reality is Dolphin Revolutionized Cafe NX

Good plan, they have money in the bank, while their software on homeconsole, handhelds and mobiles will make them money in the long run. They can certainly take a risks with the price of WiiU if they really want to, besides if price drop moves lots of units, it´ll just increase their software sales, because thats what people are buying WiiU´s in the first place.

  10. Iwata was fat during and cocky the success of Wii,now with the appalling disastrous failure of the Wii U,he lost alot of weight, he is so skinny,i dont think he is eating lately, he even skipped e3 twice in a row,and its funny how during the Wii days Nintendo never did no digital conference because the console was successful, now since Wii U is flopping worse then Gamecube, Iwata issued a digital event, and aint coming, face it fags,Wii U is the ugly duckling of the current gen,Nintendo is pulling the plug out of this Bitch.

lol hahahahaha, reason why there’s no true proper 3D Mario game made for it,like SM64,SMS,SMG ect, instead you Babies got a 3ds mario game upscaled to HD,and so many 2D games like Donkey kong Tp,Kirby rainbow curse,Yoshi wolly world, rayman ect

dang this console has more 2d games then PS1.

    1. Reality is Dolphin Revolutionized Cafe NX

“dang this console has more 2d games then PS1.”

Not a sin, more like an blessing imo. There certainly was nothing wrong with 2D games in the first place, only some idiots at the North American Sony branch thought so at the late 90´s and didnt wanna license potentially some very fucking awesome 2D games for Ps1.

32 bit 2D games certainly were enjoyable on GBA.

Also theres so much developers can do with that power we have nowadays with 2D games.

      GeometryWars1-3
      DKC:Returns and Tropical Freeze
      SuperStardust HD
      Rayman Legends and Origins
      Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
      Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
      etc.

All these games i listed have been damn enjoyable, even more enjoyable because of their simpler nature than the so called “3D super epic cgi show open world AAA multimillion dollar, this needs to sell 10 million copies to make some money and will have annual release” games.

  11. Older consoles which are almost 10years old like the ps3 and xbox 360 are even getting more games released for them then Wii U lol, that has never happened before in gaming history lol….

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>And your pathetic ape god Hitler died cycles ago like a coward, something our empire will never experience>>>

  12. Can’t believe Bravely Second is doin so poorly in Japan. The first game sold 500k in Japan. Bravely Second won’t reach that milestone selling 5k a week…

  13. Everyone’s talking the Wii U’s declining sales while I’m just sitting here waiting for two specific games to be localized this year (Rhythm Heaven 3DS and Style Savvy 3).
