Nintendo Canada: “At E3 You’ll Be Hearing About More Big Third-Party Partnerships”

One thing Nintendo is lacking at the moment is strong relationships with third-party developers, but this could change come E3 next week. Nintendo Canada general manager Pierre-Paul Trepanier promises that we shall hear about new partnerships with other developers at the show. Interestingly, he points towards Ubisoft as a developer that invests in their platforms, this is despite high-profile titles from the company skipping the Wii U. E3 sure is going to be interesting next week.

We still have those great, big third-party partners like Ubisoft who continue to invest in our platforms. In the next few weeks at E3 you’ll be hearing about more big third-party partnerships.

Thanks, Retrogaminglord

Just Dance counts as support. Of course Nintendo will play that up as “3rd party support.” Just because it isn’t Assassin’s Creed and Rayman Legends exclusivity doesn’t mean it doesn’t count.

      1. “Support”…. If you call a Dancing game that really doesn’t have anything new and sells like crap “Support”… then I guess sending troops to save your friend only to find out they’ve been sitting on their asses eating doritos and playing call of duty is called “support”…

        1. The Wii u is not dead. It’s still alive and is about to outsell the Xbox one. It has more exclusives than ps4 and Xbox one. It is also cheaper than both of them. It also has a comfortable gamepad and nfc built in the console but with your comment, you probably don’t know what nfc means.

          1. It will not outsell the Xbox One. The Xbox One gets lots of games, third party support, and is something people want to talk about regularly in the media.

The Wii U won’t outsell it, especially because its price is almost as much as a Wii U. That alone is a major selling point. And the fact that it gets the same multiplatform titles the PlayStation 4 gets is by far more tempting to consider than not.

Continue dreaming but unless Nintendo is able to properly get the Wii U out of the gutter, which they have yet to do, then it won’t be outselling anything.

        2. And yet you’re here instead of going to blog about your “Alive” “Manly” console !! How strange !!!!

  1. Partnership with Square Enix ?
Partnership with Microsoft and more precisely with Rare ?
Partnership with Platinum games, again ?
    Partnership with Bethesda ?

    Ok I stop dreaming…

    1. Reality is Dolphin Revolutionized Cafe NX

Partnership with MS/Rare could happen for 3DS, however i dont see outside of Snes/N64 VC games them doing else for WiiU….Rare is in a kinda wierd situation, on the other hand they are shadows of their former selfs but Spencer´s words about how he wants Rare to be great again gives a glimmer of hope because that guy turned XboxOne from piece of shit into desirable system, perhaps he can turn Rare from shitty developer into best 1st party dev MS will have.

Platinum Games and Nintendo however partnering would be likely, Platinum makes great games and Nintendo wants great games for WiiU with longterm potential sales, people always say how W101 and Bayonetta2 didnt “sell” but they dont see the long term picture, they are still selling which is the whole point.

Partnership Square-Enix is another possibility but outside of spinoff FF or DQ game i wouldnt really hold my breath.

Parntership with Bethesda is probably the least likely, im not saying it couldnt happen but we are talking about PC focused devs here and WiiU isnt easy enough for them to develop, they just arent capable of focusing effort for WiiU, but then again who knows? Fallout game where gamepad acts as pipboy would make so much sense that it annoys the shit out of me that it isnt a thing.

Personally i think they have made partnership with EA to bring some StarWars title(s) to WiiU, i mean SW has had a “home” with Nintendo systems since N64 days so it could be a possibilty.

  2. Zombi U2!! The game, not the band.
Actually, Zombie Bono might be cool.
Maybe U2 could do the soundtrack.

  3. Laughable only just dance and Lego games is the only third party support hell we can even get asssain creeds or call of dookie anymore lol

  4. More shovelware featuring Call of Booty and Just Dance 2016! Also Barbie Toyhouse if we’re lucky.

  5. Ninendo Canada, huh?
Last time I checked, Ubisoft had a subsidiary there called Ubisoft Montreal…
But seriously, it’s probably refering to Ubisoft, Koei Tecmo and, if rumors are to be believed, Capcom (Ryu in Smash, Ace Attorney and both Monster Hunter games). Probably not many unannounced games.

  6. Out of all the third parties associated with at least with the 3DS he names Ubi? You don’t buy a Nintendo home console expecting good third-party support, but still it’s pretty sad. The 3DS is doing very well, but then again that’s because it gets over 5 retail games a month while the Wii U may get one at the most. Maybe Nintendo will surprise us with third parties this e3!

  7. Fun unrelated fact to gaming, California alone has a slightly higher population than Canada! lCanada=36 million! California has 39 million! Oh Wait, california has wayy more people. Lel Canada has more wate

We know one of them is a Platinum game!!! I am guessing Sega has some games in the works (Sonic?), Koei Tecmo, Valhalla Game Studios, Bandai Namco, maybe Capcom, Activision,Ubisoft, Nordic Games, and of course some indie studios.

Nintendo could get itself some serious 3rd party support. Of course they will probably still be lacking any substantial Ubisoft or Activision support, EA, Rockstar, and Bethesda. Too bad, because these 3rd party developers rule the video game industry in terms of sales. I would have to say that Ubisoft and EA are probably the two biggest names in gaming behind Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

    1. no, platinums game is multiplat, will be revealed on monday on youtube with gameplay on ign on tuesay, most likely vanquish 2, and mos likely not on wii u… :(

      1. pink0crystal0midbus

Platinum Games could have more than one project in the works you know. For all we know, Platinum is making both a Nintendo exclusive AND Vanquish 2.

The cards seem to be pointing in both directions. I would be surprised if they didn’t show any love for Nintendo though.

      2. Why would it be Vanquish 2? Yeah it’s a great game and everything but it barely sold a million across 3 platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC). For anything if it ends up being a multiplat it will most likely be a new IP but I’m really hoping it’s a Wii U exclusive but we shall see in a few days

  9. Its really too late for that now.
3rd party games DO NOT sell on the Wii U. Simple as that.
Nintendo have successfully created a console where people only buy it for Nintendo games.
Third parties need to make money to survive. They won’t do it on a Nintendo home console.

  10. I was trying to wach season 3 of Orange is the New black. Then this error message came n up “We’re having trouble playing this title right now. PLEASE try again later or select a different tittle.” If Nintendo thought about power in 2008 maybe the 3 core console wouldn’t struggle playing Netflix in HD.

    1. Maybe your connection is crappy… I have 100mbit and it runs smoothly… hell, it even ran smoothly when I only had 20mbit.

  11. The Wii U is so much struggling on netflix, after going back to their weak ass 1gb OS and reloading netflix, the 3 core console can’t even remeber where it left off. If they thought about power back in 2008 instead of being slightly more powerful than the PS3, I’d be watching Orange is the new Black. Let me find my Roku 3.

    1. Netflix doesn’t support PowerPC! The software on WiiU uses the rather slow, 1 Ghz unknown arm-core-cpu (dualcore 1 MB of own cache). Thats also why its only 720p. BTW: Even my netflix has no stuttering. If it doesn’t run fluid on your console its not the console powers fault.

    1. Peanut Butter KitKat

You’re obviously very new to gaming if you think that Nintendo will release a “PS4 Competitor”.

Nintendo don’t compete they do their own thing, this is known by pretty much everyone over the age of 15.

      1. NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube are all consoles that Nintendo used to COMPETE… so really anyone who actually did some research and isn’t a totally damage control freak would know that.

Nintendo needs to start competing again, even Phil Spencer says he wants Nintendo to succeed… AND HE’S THE HEAD OF THE XBOX DIVISION.

        1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

          >>>Nintendo doing exactly like the other 2 imbeciles do is suicide by default, more power on their next console sure, other than that, no thank you>>>

          1. Ignoring the most powerful console is like almost triple wii u sales. Also if power doesn’t mean nothing why does the NX have to be more powerful than the Wii U then? Why not just make it on par with Wii u? If power isn’t the biggest reason wii u is barely above 10million in 2.5 years?

        2. And all those consoles FAILED idiot. Wake up! PS1 sold far more units than N64. Ps2 sold much more than Gamecube. And in old days, it wasn’t the same since there wasn’t a sony-console to compete with! So with what the NES and SNES competed? You guessed it…with Sega Dreamcast, and other sega-consoles. Thats it. The industry changed drastically later then. Most developers went to sony since they are lazy and wanted to develop for cds instead of chips with very limited capacity.

If you take it, the Wii was the ONLY successful console ever for N. Gamecube didn’t make money, NES didn’t and SNES and N64also failed to.

        1. He is right though, idiot. This isnt 1990 anymore where a single game costs just 100.000 dollars. Today games costs more and more. If Nintendo today would try to compete with Sony/ms 100-200 mio-dollar-games they would be bankrupt within 3 years, dumbass, since soon the money runs out. Face reality. Nintendo isn’t rich! Nintendo doesn’t consist of more than ~5000 people, the money they now have isn’t there to spend on games! Its there for hard times, butthead. Nintendo doesn’t have another cinema-business to save it when money runs out! Nintendo cannot go to the bank “hey can we have 500 mio dollar from you?”. Sony CAN do that, since they have more businesses running. Nintendo cannot do that.

      2. Nintendo cant compete only make kiddie games they havent comoeted since the early 90s lol there a joke

    2. The nx isn’t a console dumbass. Next N-console won’t come out before ~2018/2019. The hell. It even seems japanese countries don’t like x86 at ALL! That would mean, that WiiU will be the last console ever and japanese countries are going all mobile soon.
The problem about x86 is, that it doesn’t have any more advancements now. x86 is dying. Intel and Amd know about this.

      1. Thats a lie The NX is a console to ripp off nintendo fans cause nintendo fidnt make no games for Wii u

    1. I give a shit. Canada? The land of hella sweet french-canadian blondes and some of the best weed on earth?

OFFICIAL TROLL TAPE to the rescue.

  12. “We still have that great, big third-party partner, Ubisoft”

    Fixed.

If you’re going to say you still have partners, then list more than one. Otherwise it shows that you don’t have much confidence in partnering with third parties.

      1. Your generic trolling misses the mark. Trolling needs to be subtle. You’re a bull in a china shop. Tsk tsk.

    1. That doesn’t explain Rayman Legends sales numbers though. Arguably, that game is the best Wii U game made for the Wii U. Definitely the best third party Wii U game out there though.

      1. Which didn’t sell shit on any systems thanks to Ubisoft’s dumbass for chasing away Wii U sales and also delaying the game for PS3/360 systems JUST to lose most of that money to GTA5 around the same week plus also Vita’s port is as much of a colossal failure because the system sucks in the market.

        1. There is no rule that says you need to buy it on day one. There is also no rule that says an old game isn’t worth buying. The game is selling more on the PS3 and PS4 than on the Wii U now. That is quite disappointing, especially considering the fact that the PS3 and PS4 versions are a port of the Wii U version.

“BS gimps and BS blame games from third parties trying to damage control their pathetic ASS efforts or lack of efforts”. ?

This is about Nintendo, and in reply to your claim of third party gimped games on the system. Rayman Legends is not a gimped game, nor is it a port, yet still received bad sales.

For some reason, you dispute your own point on third parties. I don’t know why you would do that, but clearly that means you were lying if those were suppose to be the only reasons why third party games don’t sell. Clearly if what you noted was the only reason, then that would be one thing, but it isn’t if you don’t even acknowledge your own point. Not so great releases have little to do with the issue then if even good games sell bad. If you must give an excuse like that, then obviously the reason is more bias in nature than not.

Nintendo releases Splatoon. Splatoon is priced as a standard Wii U game, yet misses a LOT of content that won’t be available for months after release. Is this fair of Nintendo to do in comparison to third parties? In principle, they are doing a similar action to what you claim of third parties (ie, they gimped splatoon at release and kept its price high), yet the complaints about it are not a heated like they are towards third parties… Is this not hypocritical?

If bad games sell badly, that is not a problem, but the problem here is that good games are selling badly on the Wii U too. Rayman isn’t the only example. What of Bayonneta 2? Where is all that fan hype it got in its sales? It’s also a critically acclaimed game. What about Wonderful101? Call of Duty Black Ops 2? Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag? Need For Speed Most Wanted U? You claim a lack of effort, but Criterion Games and Treyarch both noted the work they put into the Wii U versions of their games. Treyarch developers noted that they had worked their butts off to get Black Ops 2 available for the Wii U’s launch; and they only had, approximately, 4 months to do it. Criterion Games boss noted the team worked through Christmas and other holidays to get the game out and then, adding insult to injury, neither Nintendo nor EA were willing to help promote the game after. The lack of effort you note is ignorant to the reality of the situation.

          Here’s another great one:

“Wii/Wii U fans are very passionate and very supportive on social media, but that passion doesn’t always translate to actual sales. I wish it did! I’ll get 60 retweets on Twitter or 250 “Yeah!”s on Miiverse about the WiiWare version, yet still see zero Wii sales that day. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true.” -Vblank Entertainment

The above is in response to Retro City Rampage not making an appearance on Wii U, and fans complaining, and even telling the developers, that they would not buy it unless the game were released on the Wii U… It may not be for every situation, but giving an overly simplistic answer to an obviously complex question won’t cut it. Sometimes it is what it is, but your answer does not adequately reflect the claims of developers that are not Nintendo.

            1. TL;DR: You’re giving a silly excuse that has no basis for Bayonneta 2, Rayman Legends, Wonderful101, Need For Speed, and other third party and contracted second party games. You’re also a hypocrite if you hate third parties but support Nintendo with Splatoon :D

      1. Sorry, i do have to pay my power-bill on my own. Theres no mommy there whiich can pump me that money over, just because the console is so power-hungry.

  13. thenintendoreviewer

“We still have those great, big third party partners like Ubisoft who continue to invest in our platforms” If this was 2012 or 2013 I would believe that. Still, Devil’s Third looks like a good third party developed game. And perhaps Platinum Games is making another big Wii U exclusive.

  15. Heard PG is releasing a new game,I hope its not a Wii U exclusive so that it doesn’t flop like Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2,both games combined couldn’t sell Shit

PG deserves good sales for thier Hard work, thier games weren’t fully marketed well, both games never got no amiibo and no bundles, imagine the success Wonderful 101 would have gotten if it was launched with Amiibo and a Wii U bundle, Nintendo just care about their games, imagine if W101 and Bayonetta 2 got the same push as the Baby shooter Splatoon.

    1. Bayonetta definitely didn’t get nearly as much advertisement as Splatoon did, but its level of advertising wasn’t bad by any means. Wonderful 101 didnt get much coverage though, and that was definitely disappointing. However, Bayonetta 2 got a fair share; it just didn’t perform as well as it should have, and probably because of the audience its self.

  16. I think they will fund some third party games.
Nintendo has a lot of cash and has to stay on good terms with third party until they release hardware that is more appealing to them. If nx is some weird shit again, Nintendo will lose them, but if it is somewhat near the current gen they might be back for the multi platform treatment.

  17. Pingback: Secondo la divisione canadese, Nintendo avrà grandi partnership con sviluppatori di terze parti all’E3 | VG247.it

  18. My guess is ZombieU II will be one of them, only rumour spreading is that Ubi are considering going multiplat with it. In which case it will just be Zombie II for everyone else. I feel a PG move, such as they did with Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 and it makes sense.

Hoping for a new Splinter Cell, Blacklist was so fine, I called it GotY 2013 and am hungering for more. Truly inspired game that ticks all the boxes. Here’s hoping. Oh! and the AC:Chronicles series as well.

    1. Peanut Butter KitKat

Ubisoft have stated that there will be no more “mature titles” on Wii U Watch Dogs was the last one. So expect Rayman and and slew of shovelware in the future.

    1. When one of the most hyped Wii U third parties (Bayonetta 2) missed the mark in terms of sales, why should Ubi support Wii U?

      1. Platinum allready told the game Bayonetta sold OK for them and since N-games have good legs they still sell after years. So you failed. They made enough money, that its very likely that the e3-game will be for WiiU only again. Why? Cause the Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 was also announced that way.

    1. Dont talk bad about the Wii u only i can the PS4 is also a piece if garbage for casual gamers because gaming died in 1995.

  21. That statement made me very worried . I’m worried that we’ll end up getting inferior X360 ports . Furthermore , Nintendo is already known for neglecting their IPs , Being abandoned by 3rd party could have force then to use some of them to fill the gaps . If their relationship with the 3rd party developers/publisher become good again , they might not even look at all the treasures they have but never use …..
