Metroid Prime Producer Says Next Metroid Prime “Would Likely Now Be On NX”

We all kind of suspected it and now it has pretty much been confirmed by Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe. The next entry in the beloved Metroid Prime series will be on the NX once it launches. As you already know we won’t be hearing about the NX platform until next year. This has been reiterated by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Here’s what Kensuke Tanabe had to say about Metroid Prime.

“If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo’s NX console,” he said.

“It’s a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side.”

  1. i wanted so badly to say to myself that buying my Wiiu was a good choice. However, I fell so bad and betrayed and sad by the decisions made by Nintendo, like really so sad. I will enjoy the good games I have for my Wiiu but it is sad that it is left behind on its deathbed.

    1. This is a huge disapointment but it doesnt mean supports being cut, snes lasted 5 years here before n64, n64 lasted 5 before game cube, gc lasted 5 before wii and wii lasted 6 before wii u. If the wii u lasted 5 or 6 years it will be a typical nintendo home console life cycle.

      1. But it’s not going to last five years. The Wii U was released late 2012. You could really say 2013. It’s only 2015… So the Wii U is already a dead system after only 2 and a half years…

You could say three years because there is technically support right now through the holidays….

So yea, three years…not five. Not six.

        1. When Nintendo release the next console, it would be 5 years that the Wii U would have been out. 2012 to 2017 November is 5 years.

      2. But the problem is, many of the past consoles before Wii U were vastly supported and had better games than Wii U did and Nintendo ultimately never did shit with it so of course many have felt the same sting as Sega fans did in their console days.

    2. Not until somebody says “The Wii U is not our future”

Remember when Sega said the same thing for the Saturn?

      1. Surely you’re not suggesting the PS4 is a dead console. If so, you are one pathetic fanboy. PS4 is crushing the competition in sales. Say what you want about the amount of games, but that console is not dead.

    1. It’s a mistranslation. People believe anything a website put out. If NX does get reveal this would be the shortest generation ever. 9th Generation would then begin.

      1. I think the general consensus would be that Nintendo just released two consoles during the 8th generation instead of complicating things by couning the number of consoles themselves. Still, you have to wonder what would the NX mean for Sony and Microsoft. Probably nothing, though, but…

        1. It does not work that way unless it’s a revision console. Once a new console is introduced a new generation starts.

          1. I guess it could work. The SNES came out two years after the Mega Drive hit the stores, after all. The situation is weird, though, there hasn’t been any previous case in which a manufacturer changed consoles mid-generation (at least not since Atari was part of the competition).

            1. When a new consoles comes out it starts the new generation. There is no such thing as a two console release for a generation from the same company unless it is a revision. A new console begins the next generation of their consoles.

              1. “There is no such thing as a two console release for a generation from the same company unless it is a revision”
Correction: there HASN’T been. This scenario has never happened before, to try to predict how people are going to organize this clusterfuck is pure speculation.

Let’s say the NX launches at holiday season 2016. 9th generation is born, PS4 and Xbox One are still going strong. However, the NX fails to creat a decent instalbase. After two years, Nintendo kills the suport for the system again and drops out of the home console market.

The next year, both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox… Two? come out. Would they be considered 10th generation consoles? Did Sony and Microsoft just skip a generation?

Patterns and tradition work until they don’t. It’s not like the generation of consoles is anything official, either, it’s a term created out of convenience.

                1. they would be 9th generation consoles. same situation with the 6th generation with reamcast starting it. it is not complicated at all.

                  1. The difference being, there was no Sega console after the Dreamcast, and the Saturn had a full life cicle (in Japan, at least). If there was a Saturn successor that was also a flop, the comparison would be accurate.

                    1. my point was dreamcast started that generation really early then PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox came along. If NX is the next console from Nintendo that replaces the Wii U then the 9th generation would start no matter how early it was.

                      1. Which is a case much more similar to the Wii U, not to the NX, since the fifth gen started in 1994 and the Dreamcast came out in 1998, more or less when a generational change was needed. The NX would hypothetically come out not even four years after the Wii U launched. Not to mention, the fifth generation kicked off with both the Saturn and the PlayStation (so the ‘generation’ itself was pretty old in 1998), while the Wii U had a very large head start this generation (which makes the other consoles much newer and the decision of burying the Wii U much more dramatic). It’s not the same case at all.

                        1. it is the same case. There will be no new console next year. When the NX is spoken or “reveal” in 2016, it will not release next year. Wii U will have its 5 year cycle or close to it. Just because in this Digital Event, they only spoke of games releasing in 2015 or early 2016 does not mean they will not reveal any more games for 2016. There is at least 2 more Directs this year. There is so much overreacting going on. A little off topic but for 2016 so far there is Zelda, SMTXFE, Mario & Sonic, and Project Treasure that is known. Back on topic, if by some chance the NX did release in 2016, The Wii U would be 4 years old. So in your 1994 to 1998 example, it would be the same for the NX to start in 2016 when the 8th gen started in 2012.

                          1. Having a 5 year life cicle doesn’t mean anything if the console isn’t supported, though.

As it is, and with all these rumors about projects jumping ship, the cautious attitude is to assume the worse and be proven wrong with the eventual Directs, which I’m sure are coming, as you say.

I’m not complaining about the 2015, I actually think it’s pretty good. Much better than the later years of the Wii, for example.

And it still wouldn’t be the same, because the Wii U didn’t start the generation with a competitor. It started it by itself, alone. At least the PlayStation was as old as the Saturn when Sega pulled the plug, so the generation in general was older. A generational change was much more justified, you could say that the N64 just was introduced too late.

However, speaking of the current gen, both rival consoles aren’t even two years old. Had the PS4 been revealed at the same time as the Wii U, it would be as old now, and Nintendo would be in a better position to force a generational change in their competitors. That is not the case, however, so Nintendo doesn’t have the advantage that Sega had in that aspect, hence why I say that both situations aren’t comparable. Those four years were a totally different situation compared to these four years.

                            1. The Wii U is not even 3 years old yet. Rumors are just that rumors. I agree to assume the worse. That is one way to go. I am just going to play my games and enjoy what I have. There will be new additions to what I have now and I will have fun. In the the 7th gen the XBox 360 release without a competitor and the XBox was last released or second to last memory a little fuzzy. Wait and see is the best approach to take because this is something that is out of our hands. You are right the situation is different but the generational term would still be the same.

                              1. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I plan to keep supporting the system and the games that interest me whatever happens in the long run. What I’ll do about the NX is probably another story. See you after the next Direct, let’s hope for some more games.

                    2. Not really. If the NX is equal in power to the Ps4, history would dictate that this would remain the 8th generation of home consoles…

                      1. generations is not by power. it is the next chronological step in consoles. It is say you have two brothers. all three of you have a child. they are the next generation.

                  2. NX has to REALLY REALLY REALLY blow the other two away and even the next systems to hurt ps4 or xbone. After wii u nintendo fans are burned hard, and sony and microsoft fans were never in any rush to leave those companies for nintendo so it’s gonna be tough. Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot. They’ve burned me hard this gen. I’ve been a longtime fan since NES and I’ve never been so upset at them even after the wii, cause they were allowed a mistake system. Wii u should have fixed it but it didn’t and then they pulled stuff like yesterday and are making it obvious they are ditching the wii u AND it’s fans, even the fans who defend their ditching.

                    1. That’s what I’m thinking. I just really hope they take their time, and don’t release it early. I’d love for Nintendo to make a console again, that can be competitive hardware wise.

If Nintendo releases the NX so early, I could see that being a problem. They may end up in the same exact position they are in now. Sure, it may actually release with good games at launch, but you also have to think about the fact it will most likely be behind the competitors tech wise, because of this.

It will also likely lead to the same third party situation we have now on the system, because the tech will be behind both Sony and Microsoft’s for the third time in a row. More importantly, with the way Nintendo goes about developing their games, they really need third party support. Love ’em or hate ’em, they need games to fill the space between their development on first party titles.

I mean if it were my company, I’d make it a habit to always release my systems last. People might have to wait a little longer, but it would ensure that the system is competitive, and that you have the upper hand in making any last minute adjustments.

I can only hope for their sake, that somehow it does not end up less than what the PS4 and Xbox One have now, or even the same. The odds are really against them, they really are going to have to amaze the crap out of people with this new system, especially when no one even knows what Sony or Microsoft have in store for their next systems.

People want the most bang for their buck these days, and if Nintendo releases another sub par system, I don’t think people will be flocking in droves to get it. Maybe I’m wrong, but the trend today seems to be all about power. The Wii had some great games, but people still knew it was under powered, and how featureless it was compared to the other systems.

Nintendo should not aim to be a secondary system.

Now I’m not a graphics whore, but power is important. More power, attracts developers. They know they’ll have more freedom to create the game they want, instead of having to move around so many limitations. It’s just better period, even for Nintendo’s own development studios to have a system that is the best it can be. They had some cool ideas for the Wii U, but it came a great cost.

They need to find a better balance between innovation, and keeping up with technology today.

                      1. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m at work and so I don’t have time to fully respond to everyone right now but you always know whats up so I at least gave you a quick response lol.

                      2. I agree with everything you said. I also think that the NX shouldn’t be rushed like how Sega did the Saturn or otherwise it could suffer the same fate. Nintendo needs to take their time and sit down not only with 3rd party developers but also with their in house development teams as well and ask what type of specs are needed to create the games that they want to make. If it’s a hybrid system I sincerely hope that both the home console and handheld versions are sold separately

If the NX gets proper 3rd party support there will be no stopping it, it will be dominant regardless of what Sony and Microsoft does with their next consoles. Also they need to continue to secure more 3rd party exclusives through deals because they really should’ve had Shenmue 3 exclusive on the Wii U but that’s neither here or there.

But most importantly, the NX definitely needs a very strong launch lineup from the start. If the new Zelda is being ported from the Wii U to the NX and if Retro Studios is indeed making a brand new Metroid game for the NX and if both of those titles become launch titles that would make the NX an ” instant must-buy “. I want Nintendo to become the kings of the industry again but they’re gonna have to listen to gamers and the developers and give us the Nintendo home system that gamers everywhere have been waiting for

                        1. “I want Nintendo to become the kings of the industry again…”

As do I. But as Nintendo, who gets 3rd-party exclusives & games tailored to both the Nintendo subculture &, nowadays, the console culture as a whole. Where the NX remains distinct, & not just w/ exclusives & 1st party offerings, but also w/ its overall vibe. If Nintendo can somehow juggle the PC subculture & the AAA craze @ the same time as console-gaming, then great. But I doubt 3rd parties will return to the days of modest budgets, focused gameplay, puzzles, stylized aesthetics, genres (2D & 3D Platformers, turn-based console Strategy RPGs & JRPGs [‘least not in a big way], Arcade Racers, Survival Horror, etc.), & franchises (actual Final Fantasy, actual Resident Evil, actual Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, Red Steel, Trauma Center, Ridge Racer, The World Ends W/ You, Brave Fencer Musashi, Crystal Chronicles, Fear Effect, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, MadWorld, NiGHTS, Crazy Taxi, Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon, Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre, Psychonauts, etc.). PC/PS3/PS4/360/X1 were/are treated largely the same, & very few genres remained. Even Nintendo themselves seem to have abandoned F-Zero, Wave Race, Sin & Punishment, Cpt. Rainbow, & is too democratic re Shadow of the Eternals. & as much as I like indies & how they can make so much more w/ less & sustain the fundamentals, I want their style to be taken to the next level, w/ out getting caught up in AAA budgets, photorealism, hardcore audiovisuals, FPSes & Sandboxes, & a glut of cutscenes. The way the landscape was before the drastic shift in 7th gen; colorful, varied, focused gameplay, & sometimes flat-out bizarre, & all from 3rd parties w/ lucrative brands & industry clout. Seems the advances of technology (digital download, DLC, microtransactions, patches) somehow made all that too expensive or lacking in über profit. So what used to come w/ a game is now sold separately. “As we celebrate mediocrity, all the boys upstairs want to see, how much you’ll pay for what you used to get for free”

But who am I to voice my opinion? I am a niche gamer, fated to be in the minority. Except, maybe I swam close to the mainstream in 6th gen, when multiplats felt right & 3rd-parties still adhered to fundamentals & even the West adhered to Japanese gaming philosophy. Yet, the mainstream drifted away, & I was buoyed by Wii (games like Red Steel, MadWorld, No More Heroes, Muramasa, Castle of Shikigami, The Last Story, etc.), Wii U, & handhelds.

Oh well. The industry, this institution, neither wants or needs me. Maybe I’ll be a PS2 gamer for 9th gen. Afterwards, I’ll just focus more on reading instead of gaming. Most of my friends stopped gaming seriously in high school, & started drinking, socializing, playing pool & mobile games seriously. The only friend who continues to game seriously abandoned Nintendo consoles after high school (though he only had an NES himself & despite his college friends reminiscing about playing N64 games @ their dorm). Playing PS2 @ his house was great (though I felt I had the superior version of Soul Calibur II). But playing PS3 & PS4 just showed how different of gamers we are. & even playing 360 @ his house, & Xbox @ another’s was strange to me. I’m certainly the only 1 of my friends who researches, posts, & plays games the most. But if it ain’t “adult” or “realistic”, it means nothing to them, & most everyone else. A sign of the times. I can’t trust anyone over 30 for what’s cool, not even myself. Or under 30 for that matter. @ least books are, mostly, less expensive & offer deeper meaning.

                          https://youtu.be/gOd3tan59BE

                          1. Oh, I think Nintendo’s problem is less a power issue & more a clash of subcultures. 3rd parties & their PC/PlayStation/Xbox went in a different direction. & those who started gaming during & after the shift know nothing or little about what came before. They don’t really care. If Nintendo is to compete w/ PC/PS/X & garner that audience, I think they’ll have to become them, or leave much of themselves behind. Perhaps the masses never cared for Nintendo to begin w/, though I’m certain gamers still care about the console subculture, even if it’s most relegated to VC, PSN, & LIVE Arcade. But where are their cries & condemnation of 3rd parties? Has it all gone into crowd funding for indies?

Again, I’m just a niche gamer. & apparently niche when it comes to music, books, TV, & films/movies, too.

                        2. At this point, it’s difficult to fathom PSOne -crowd to have any interest in NX, 3rd-parties included or not. They have their own exclusives, and they already have 3rd party support, Nintendo-exclusives did not make them invest in Wii U, so why would they invest in NX? Most of the high-spending enthusiast -crowd is already invested in other platforms.

Nintendo needs something extraordinary with NX. As I can’t come up with anything innovative, I would suggest making a ridiculous powerhouse, a $1000 machine that could compete against the next gen from Sony and MS, and keeping the Wii U going alongside for another 3-5 years. Make their own games with Wii U in mind, and bring them to NX as well, and let 3rd parties worry about harnessing the power of the NX. The initial market would be small, but it would be huge compared to next gen competition when they launch, and by then would be similar price.

                  3. It’ll be a Hybrid console to be honest.
They said a new concept and platform so basically it won’t be the same old.

                1. It could be, but to be compatible with an hypothetical portable Prime 4, it’d have to be at least as powerful as the Vita, and I don’t really see Nintendo taking that kind of risk with their portable system, even if it’s some weird console/portable hybrid.

            2. Yeah, man. What great news. Fuck the Wii U, right? Let’s wait for NX and if that fails, let’s wait for the next platform. HOLY SHIT. Fuck you Nintendo, I’m done with you. Once you prove to me that you’re actually serious with NX, I’ll buy it. There is no way I trust you anymore. This time, earn my trust.

                >>>At least we are not enemies anymore, I guess that was good for something>>>

                >>>*wink*>>>

                1. Yeah, you know me. The definition of a fanboy. Go read on it.

                  Saul Goodman:

“Old Yeller was the best, most loyal dog there ever was.
I mean, everybody loved that mutt, but one day he showed up rabid, and Little Timmy, for Old Yeller’s own sake, had to, uh Oh, you– you saw the movie.”

Do you want to be put down, Old Yeller? Don’t make me do it. You say something as stupid as that, I’ll have to do it.

                          1. Yea I swear since they gave out the smash 3ds codes before it released, a shit ton of new people started coming here since then. Some cool but a lot of fanboys.

                            1. Well, I suppose fanboys are expected on a site that is only about Nintendo.

You know, this E3 makes me happy. I tried for so long to explain to everyone individually which mistakes Nintendo was making, spending hours arguing and not being able to make them see reason, but Nintendo did one thing I never was able to. They proved me right. That’s something. I mean, I don’t care that people NOW agree with me. I think it’s too late, but I’m glad people are finally holding Nintendo responsible. One thing I fear is that Nintendo will buy their loyalty by announcing few great games for NX and then dragging them throughout the entire generation like they did with the Wii U. Some games like Xenoblade, Yoshi or Zelda were announced back in January 2013 and are still not out. I mean, that shit is absurd, but fanboys have been showing off with those games like they’re out since then. WHAT!?

Nintendo will do the same with NX, but this time, I hope, people are going to see reason. If Nintendo fails with NX. If it is a hybrid. If it is another gimmicky console. They’ll just go full mobile and never turn back. I don’t think a hybrid console has an audience. I don’t think gimmicks have an audience anymore. Nintendo has to either embrace Hardcore gamers or Casual gamers and knowing them, I think we both know which they’ll choose.

                              1. Yea it is pretty funny yet sad that it took nintendo pulling what they did for people to open their eyes. I feel like this gen has soured so many of their long time loyalists that they just may be doomed. I know I ain’t gonna be excited come launch day for NX. First time ever I’m not gonna be excited for a new nintendo system unless they really go all out and give us the system we deserve.

                                1. I don’t even think it’s possible for them to delived with NX. People will be expecting a perfect system if they ever even consider buying it and Nintendo is in such a bad shape that even if they wanted to deliver such a platform, they couldn’t meet the expectations of people that are burned so hard that they’re just leaving a company they stuck with through thick and thin.

                                  1. Well I’m at the point where if nintendo falls and burns and doesn’t deliver to it’s true long term fans, I won’t be sad. They deserve to fall. If they ain’t gonna listen to the people who paid their bills since they started console gaming, to hell with them for all the years of ignoring us and thinking they know better. And fighting things like online gaming since gamecube. Fuck em.

                  1. I’m done too. This is exactly how Sega played out their BS cards back then. They’re following the same doomed path and I’m not playing as their monkey boy any longer. Save yourselves and don’t ever support them anymore. Now, gaming to me is officially dead now that Nintendo is gone…

                      1. I wasn’t even that stupid when it comes to recognizing BS decisions they’ve done. This E3 was the final straw for me. They abandoned Wii U, shown nothing but crap, refusing to grow the fuck up with online interactivity, keeping better IPs in the dark or basically did what they just unforgivably did to Metroid…

I’m so fucking done. That’s it. Nintendo is dead to me.

                          1. And you honestly think I’m on of those hypocrite morons defending anything and everything? Are you that goddamn stupid or blind because you can’t have both until you wanted to.

                            1. I don’t know, but you sure as hell seemed that way. Read some of your older posts if you can find them and tell me how they sound.

I think that I’ve proven how intelligent I am by seeing this 2+ years before any of you and enough times in my life.

                  >>>1. Metroid is coming to Wii U
                  2. Metroid Prime Something is coming to Wii U
                  3. Metroid Prime Something confirmed for NX launch>>>

                    1. Retro will never make a 2d Metroid because it is owned by Sakamoto. Since Retro is owned by Tanabe they will always make Prime games. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/17/e3-2015-what-metroid-primes-producer-wants-in-the-next-sequel
“I’m not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on”. Tanabe said this himself so stop asking, because you’ll never get it. You also never see the main series story or the Prime story intertwine because they are considered two different franchises by Nintendo. So keep bitching about how you don’t want Sakamoto on Metroid because the truth is he owns the franchise so he will be involved whether any of you Prime faggots like it or not.

                3. Next Metroid Prime confirmed for NX? More like, Nintendo already gave up on the WiiU confirmed. I’m disappointed, absolutely disappointed with Nintendo.

                  1. This time I can’t you blame you man. What Nintendo did at that E3 Direct was unforgettable and unforgivable. They’re gonna have their work cut out for them to earn back a lot of Nintendo fans’s trust because they dropped the ball HARD this time

                    1. Absolutely agreed. Looking back, it feels like the whole presentation was Nintendo just making fun of us, their fans. “Oh, you want Metroid? We got you covered, here’s a basic multiplayer game with the word “Metroid” mentioned in its title! Animal Crossing you say? Here’s a shitty board game, Animal Crossing themed! But wait, there’s more to it: It requires you to own amiibo to play it! Sounds fantastic, right?! If you think that’s all, you’re wrong! We know you all are craving some Zelda, so we’re proud to announce… Hyrule Warriors, a game that’s been available for months now, is now coming to the 3DS!!”
They literally just took everything we were waiting for, turned it into something entirely different than what we wanted to see, and presented it to us as if it’s exactly what we were wholeheartedly wishing for. People have been supporting the WiiU since the very beginning, even though it hasn’t been going through the most glorious times so far, and this is how they thank them? It’s just sad, really.

                      1. And they were making way too big a deal of Mario Maker. FREE level editing tools are pretty much a standard on maaany of the game on Steam.

                    1. I think that will greatly depend on what they actually release, and how it compares to both the PS4 and Xbox One now. And they better hope Sony and Microsoft don’t announce anything in between that time.

Seems highly unlikely they’ll be able to keep up at the rate they are going. They made a big mistake releasing the Wii U so early, and I think it would be just as big as a mistake, to release another system so early on.

Like some are saying, they’re really going to have to wow people with what they have planned. If it’s far off from the competitors again, and not in a good way. I can see the same crappy third party situation, happening all over again.

As I said, Nintendo really needs to find a better balance between their hardware. Sometimes I think they focus on innovation too much.

                      1. It’s not about the hardware anymore. They just ultimately killed their fanbase almost the same way Sega did in their consoles days. I’m not having it anymore. I’m selling my Wii U with everything it has, keep my 3DS but no longer buying anything new from Nintendo anymore. They’re now dead to me.

                      2. They tried to be a bit “too” innovative with the Wii U, seeing how they have trouble finding uses for the gamepad as well (the biggest problem imo being how difficult it is to hold with one hand while drawing with the other).

Unlike many here, I would actually want to see some more games like the new Kirby Rainbow *, where it can be played one handed with just the touchpad (seeing how I have a one-handed relative).

                4. DONT MAKE SENCE WHY WOULD YOU START NOW WIIU HAS BEEN AVALABLE FOR YEARS

YOU ALREADY WOULD BE HALF WAY TO FULL WAY THERE CLEARLY YOU HAVE NX GAMES IN DEVELOPMENT…..

NX WONT BE A STANDARD CONSOLE THERES MORE TO THIS

HYBRED-DUAL SYSTEM -EVEN A SYSTEM PLUS A PC VERSION ASVA CONTROLLER AND APP

                  MANY MANY POSSABILLITY

                5. I’m a big Nintendo fanboy, I have a NES, GameCube, Wii, Wii U and almost every handheld, and yet I feel the urge to sell my Wii U to buy a console that doesn’t shit on the face of its fans.
I’m really pissed off now, nintendo is thinking only about making money with those shitty amiibos (I personally have like 10 of them, but I have to admit that this is getting ridicolous!) and spinoff titles…
Great job nintendo, this is how to treat your real fans! thanks for all these years of joy but you’re officially dead to me

                  1. I would consider you a true fan then, and not a fanboy. You see what’s really going on and not excusing it. I applaud you sir. Nothing wrong with stating your frustrations about them as many here would like you to think. They screwed us yesterday big time straight up and simple. A fanboy would defend yesterday. And I’ve already had an anonymous person try and defend it. They are the reason nintendo pulls this stuff cause they let it happen and excuse it with open arms. Thank you for not being one of those people.

                    1. How many people here are pure fanboys by your definition. I haven’t seen many people defend Nintendo on this. They seem to have lost in the hardest of the hardcore from this stunt. Amiibos need to go away. I personally won’t be buying nx any time soon unless its an addon to the wii u. If not then it’ll probably be a long time before i even consider it. Unless they find a way to get it to me for about 100 bucks

                          1. Haha I’ll get splurge and get the triple tin pack that gives you the cheddar, caramel, and butter popcorn.

                    1. Yea. It will take far more than metroid to make up for this. NX the system itself better blow us the fuck away let alone the games on it. And unless it makes ps4 look like last gen, it’s not enough. I have to buy an extra system just to get one on par with everyone else? Fuck that noise.

                      1. What I’ve been saying. They’ve really put themselves in a bad position, because it’s going to be hard for them to make a system better than the PS4 and Xbox One this early on, or if anything it will be the same. Which won’t be that good, either.

Like I also said. God forbid if Sony and Microsoft announce something in between then. Even if they do make a more powerful system than the PS4 and Xbox One, they will be screwed again, later on when Sony and Microsoft shortly announce their newer consoles.

I really hope this hybrid crap doesn’t turn out to be true, either. I personally think that would make it an even worse situation. Again an innovative idea, that doesn’t necessarily translate all that well in the real world at the moment. The tech just isn’t there yet, and a hybrid system will suffer on both sides.

I don’t want a mediocre console/handled, for the sake of it being a hybrid.

                    2. Exactly… I have no problem with people wanting, or being interested in the NX. But after all this, you think they would know a little better, to at least maybe wait a bit before jumping right in again.

One game is not going to change my perception on all the mistakes Nintendo has been making over the years.

                6. Well, its confirmed. The Wii U is dying and Nintendo is pulling the plug. Personally though I’m not mad. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of my Wii U and will still use it for the foreseeable future.

Nintendo always drops off console support far too early. Wii U was having a good run. If we got Metroid, Zelda, Animal Crossing and a couple more games, it would have a respectable library.

At this point… it’s looking pretty grim for the Wii U. Sad to say it’s finally settling down as a failure in terms of sales AND value. Without a good backlogue like the Gamecube has, it’s going to leave behind a piss poor legacy.

Really poor decision making on Nintendo’s part.

                  1. I really wanted Animal Crossing too… Goodness that reveal had me enraged. Get everyone all excited at the beginning, then you see it’s nothing but a virtual board game.

They should just call them bored games, cause they’re fucking boring… Sorry, that was stupid. Lol.

                9. I’ve been a huge Nintendo fan since the SNES days, but yesterday was the straw the broke the camel’s back. I don’t own a Wii U (thank goodness), but it pisses me off seeing Wii U owners being screwed over by Nintendo’s pathetic business practices. They really *really* need to get their act together. Once I get enough money, I’m sticking with a 3DS. It’s been selling well, has many more games than the Wii U, and actually has third party support.

The NX better blow everyone out of the water, or else Nintendo is done. And it better last for years to come, because what’s going to happen when the NX has been out for several years while the next generation of consoles finally begins again?

                10. PS4 It's the only way

                  Jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja!!!

                  The Shit U is dead!!!

                  Jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja!!!

                11. I’ll have to disagree with some here that the Wii U’s library won’t be respectable by the time it’s dumped. A Metroid wouldn’t have helped. As a person who’s Wii U 3rd party stash way outnumber’s my 1st party stash, Wii U’s got A LOT of solid titles under its belt for a flop, & though nothing new’s been shown at E3, We still have some stuff to collect before it dies

                  1. Starfox
                  2. XCX
                  3. Fatal Frame
                  4. FE x SMT
                  5. Harvest Moon
                  6. Mighty No.9
                  7. Bloodstained
                  8. Zelda
                  9. Mario Tennis
                  10. Yoshi Wool
                  11. Mario Maker
                  12. Animal Crossing Rip off
                  13. Project Giant Robot
                  14. The other Project something something…

I’m sure there will be more than this too. One or two, maybe a handful. Wii U already has a good library, & there has to be SOMETHING in the games I just listed you’d play. I’d buy 8 of the 14 I just listed. That’s a decent stack. If I put those with all the others I own & wanna buy, I’d say Wii U has one of the most respectable libraries for a flop I’ve ever seen in my life, probably second only to GCN. The thing’s a damn failure & the OS+features suck ass (except for that sweet browser) but you definitely can’t trash its library lol.

                  1. Dude. “Bloodstained” isn’t coming out until 2017. By that point, the Wii U will be totally unsupported. Trust me, I’m in the same boat – I might redeem my digital copy on my PS4 instead, but I have a 1GB hard-drive plugged into what is quickly becoming an obsolete console.

                12. Um… he didn’t say it WILL be on NX. He said IF they started making it now, it wouldn’t be done until the NX comes out or later. He didn’t even say they were making it. In fact, he confirmed they didn’t even start on it yet.

                13. You guys need to just QUIT!!!! The Wii U is not dead!!! I’m looking at 30 of the hottest games available To which I currently own.
I know you want a new Metroid Prime. Hell, I WANT ANOTHER METROID PRIME MORE THAN ANYBODY!! But apparently its not coming. Nintendo could put out a new 2D Metroid to play on the Wii U.
But we’ll just have to wait.

Oh! & for the record…….HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU, THE SO CALLED NINTENDO FANBASE, ASKED FOR GAMES WHICH WERE BROUGHT OUT ON THE WII U……ONLY TO HAVE YOU GUYS NOT SHOW SUPPORT & PURCHASE THE GAME LET ALONE A SYSTEM?!

If you’re ready to, ahem…& I quote: ABANDON SHIP! Then by all means just go! Stop talking & get the fuck outta dodge! I’ll enjoy Super Mario Maker, Yoshis Wolly World, Super Smash Bros, SPLATOON, Devils 3rd, Star Fox Zero, Mario Tennis, Xenoblade Chronicles, Hyrule Warriors, Beyonetta 1 & 2, Zombi U, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Mario Bros U, Captain Toads Treasure Tracker, Kirby & the Rainbow Curse, NEXT YEARS THE LEGEND OF ZELDA ON WII U! & a host of other games.

                14. I’m sorry but even if this were true and the real Metroid Prime or successor is coming to NX as a launch title, I’m not jumping in. Nintendo fucked it up for me and now I’m no longer supporting shit from them anymore and I don’t give a shit how good this next game or NX will be. I’m fucking done.

                15. I could see what nintendo is doing here.. great games will be coming to the wii u console( maybe, even a price cut before the holidays) why rush the next home console.. When you could be ahead of sony and Microsoft, when code name Nx does drop( at least a year or two ahead of the next gen consoles) think about it?

                16. to be honest some criticise MS and Sony but they had give more support to they fans when it comes to console release.as far as I am see it, the first year PS4 and Xboxne came out, lot of games were … even now are release for PS3/PS4 and XB360/XB1. Nintendo should release Metroid for both version Wii U and NX (whatever it is)
