Splatoon Hits 1 Million Worldwide Sales Today

Splatoon has managed to hit the milestone of 1 million copies sold worldwide today, most of which were sold in America. Japan also released another commercial for the colourful shooter that you an check out above, but more importantly, here’s Nintendo’s official announcement:

“Nintendo has hauled up its nets, tallied its catch and crossed another milestone. Sales of Splatoon, the new squid-based game for Nintendo’s Wii U home console, have crossed 1 million worldwide, according to Nintendo’s internal figures. That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners.”

Splatoon multiplayer pits teams of four online players against one another as they try to splatter a majority of the playing area with their team’s colorful ink. Players can transform into squids and swim through pools of their own ink to move faster or maneuver up walls to access hard-to-reach areas.

    1. It depends on time of day. I might be a kid one minute, but you turn your head for 2 seconds and I might turn into a squid suddenly.

        1. You’re the one that doesn’t understand reality. The thing that people on this site have a hard time understanding, is what you are trying to say. You’re done with this site? Good. Maybe you can go on an adverture, an adventure to find you’re dignity and to find out what reality actually is.Go get a job, go a life and most importantly, go find you’re own dang identity, rather than using somebody elses. Let the name Sasori die on this site already…

  1. I’d like to announce that after this lose the church of sasori has been disbanded. we can’t stand fake promises of a land full of HD and hardcore gaming when we see the games lord sasori hates sell well.

And since nothing else matters…the church of sasori was:

    sasori obinna
    Madara xbot
    Itachi
    Xboxtitans
    Sasukex360

              1. I JUST got your point. Yeah, I don’t know who I’m even talking out either. Church? What Church?

    1. Me too. i love all their well known character but i wouldnt mind to see them dedicate a console with mostly new ip. I wish to see what they can come up with.

      1. Yeah that would be awesome, I’d also love to see what some of the big names at Nintendo like Anouma and Sakurai would do if they made an new IP. I know Sakurai made Kirby and Kid Icarus but I want to see him do other things.

        1. Sakurai didn’t make Kid Icarus- he just revived it after 20+ years and got just as nepotistic with the characters in Smash as he does with Kirby.

  2. over a million already and will have continued support dlc freebee’s etc

add death matches and other modes nintendo gyro plus sticks owns but please add wii remote and chuck too…

  3. Splatoon has proven to be a winning IP for Nintendo, so would it be like Mario Kart or SSB that fans will be waiting for in future consoles?

Nintendo just proved that good “uh” clean (?) fun in the fps genre using ink can be a winning idea.

I bet Sony and Microsoft fanboy devs are cooking up a way to replicate this game in some way like they did with SSB. After all they been looking at Nintendo for “new” ideas…

    1. Thanks for bringing that up…. :(

Also, I guess this is the final nail in the coffin for voice chat! No point in complaining anymore. Not gonna happen.
(I’m still not buying the game tho)

  4. Congratulations Nintendo. Glad to see your new ip is a success. I know it has been a hard year for you. But keep moving forward.

  5. everyone who bought bayonetta 2.. buy it again! or we wont have bayonetta 3 :P im happy for you guys with this splatoon game…im calling it like that because my wii u has stop working….and now i need new wii u …..

  6. Wait when they said 11 more exclusive games for the Wii U do them mean they have more new games to show that they didn’t show at E3 and third party games to show that didn’t come to E3 if so wtf nintendo

  7. Very Good Game, the best shooting game. I happpy with nintendo, i am waiting for star fox, xenoblade, yoshi, great Games

  8. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

*claps* Now if you motherfuckers at Nintendo would market the living hell out of Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Devil’s Third, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, & Xenoblade Chronicles X, then we can partially forgive the debacle of Nintendo Digital Event at E3 2015!

    1. I agree. Nintendo should release a Wonderful 101/Bayonetta 2 bundle dubbed as the ” Double-Platinum bundle “. Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water and Devil’s Third both should get some heavy advertising to prove to people that Nintendo has games for every demographic

    2. LMAO!! You crazy dawg…Lol
You wanna hear something funny? What if they give a “MASSIVE MARKETING PUSH” to METROID PRIME FEDERATION FORCE & not to any of the titles you just named.

People will be like …wtf!? Lol

      1. *shudder* I won’t be surprised if they are already making plans to ignore the titles I mentioned & actually do give the marketing push to that wannabe Metroid Prime game.

  9. I’m not surprised one bit! SPLATOON is now a major player among NINTENDO MASCOTS. So to Ink boy, Ink girl, & the Squidling- GOOD JOB & WELCOME TO THE FAMILY.

    1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

Ugh! Don’t remind me of Nintendo’s failure to heavily market Bayonetta 2 when it first released! D:

      1. They somewhat tried especially with the Playboy ads they had. I give them props for that. But in the end i blame Wiiu owners for not buying it. Reason? Cause half of them bitch and moan that they have no games. And there’s one released for the system that’s a two and one deal!

        1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

I know but Nintendo didn’t help matters. When it comes to a “kiddy” game, Nintendo is going all out with marketing but when it comes to a more mature title, Nintendo barely, if ever, markets the hell out of it. Nintendo should have done a lot more for Bayonetta 2 than just a few commercials & ads in Playboy. A long Nintendo Direct that focuses solely on the Wii U’s mature titles would be very much appreciated. Especially Bayonetta 2, Devil’s Third, & Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water since two of them they funded & one of them they partly own.

          1. Yeah they can do that but only the hardcore Nintendo fans will buy it. The casuals will not because they only care about the kiddy stuff and they outnumber everyone 10 to 1. So Nintendo has to cater to them,it’s sad but it’s the truth. Wish they catered to both, but they’re not that smart.
