Just before E3 we were given three new paid downloadable content characters for Super Smash Bros. The characters that were added to the mix were Ryu, Roy and Lucas. Super Smash Bros producer Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that these additional characters were all in development before the character ballot was created. Sakurai also confirmed that there’s only going to be several more characters added to the roster and that’s it. He finally asks for fans patience.
“There is a fighter ballot on the official Smash for Wii U/3DS website. We’ve received an extremely large number of votes, but of course, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were in developed even before the ballot was created. I had a grasp on their popularity and demand, though.”
“From now until the end, it is going to be fan service, but I can’t keep the development team together forever, so there’s only going to be several more characters. I also ask for your patience, as we need time to develop more content.”

‘Only several’ seems like a bad translation to me. I think they are only going to add 2 more, given the amount of space left on the select screeen.
If you honestly believe that then sure. Sakurai can’t be trusted with his words. He can say “2 more” but it actually means “7 more” and he’ll find some way to modify it to fit
They ran out of space in the stage select screen so they added a arrow to a second page. They could just do that with the 3DS version. The Wii U version looks like it has space
Or just resize the icons, like they did with the Wii U version’s character select screen.

I would have voted Paper Mario in a heart beat, but DR. Mario ruined everything. At the very least P Mario would have actually been unique and not a lame clone.
Banjo Kazooie is a long shot, but they’ll bring more hype than any other character.
I kinda want another Mother character, but since we got Lucas its probably not likely.
So I voted for King Hippo from Punch Out. I’d like to see some of the franchises who have only one character rep- like Punch Out, Xenoblade, Pikmin, etc- to get another rep as DLC.

Honestly I don’t really think we need more characters. There’s over 50 way more then enough. I wish they would allow mii players online that would be fun or maybe a mode to pit you and your amiibo against someone elses team. Or even a mode where u can fight with different equipment

Shovel Knight doesn’t deserve to be in smash regardless if his game was good or not. He’s nowhere near classic status and you have to have some sort of classic status to fit in.
If that’s the case, then it shall be a fight to guess who are Sakurai’s waifus ;)

I would really want to vote for Corrin/Kamui, but he has little ballot support in the West and his slot was arguably stolen by Roy (Meaning no more room for extra Fire Emblem reps). He might as well be the new “Ephraim/Lyn” and get the Assist trophy treatment in Smash 5.

I love you picked someone from Monster Hunter. However, I think the better more playable pick would be the Felynes. This would open up their weapon arsenal entirely more so than a normal MH “avatar” would. Especially if people out there don’t like the Insect Glaive.
