Amiibo Nintendo

Star Fox Wii U Shouldn’t Have Locked Content Behind Amiibo

There’s plenty of people out there that are skeptical of amiibo and think of them as expensive DLC. Kotaku recently had the opportunity to interview Shigeru Miyamoto and one of the questions posed to him was whether Star Fox will have any locked content that only amiibo can unlock. Miyamoto said that so far this isn’t the case, but those with a Star Fox amiibo should get a little something extra.

“In terms of being able to unlock content, I don’t really want to go down that path. For this game, I think of it more as, for people who have the Amiibo, they’re going to get a little something extra and that’s how I’m planning on it with this game. So rather than actual abilities or things like that changing in the game, it would be like getting a different skin for the Arwing or something like that.”

“So, I don’t really want to talk about Nintendo in general today, but in terms of what I’m doing with Star Fox, I’m really not thinking about there being locked content or there being a mode that you won’t be able to play if you don’t have one. Since we already have the existing Smash Bros. Amiibos I basically want to put in something so if you already have those Amiibos, I imagine people will try and tap them on Star Fox anyway, and I want to make sure there is something that gives them a nice charge when they do that.”

    1. Miyamoto is a legend. Got to love Miyamoto for his genius and for how genuine of a person he seems to be.

    1. As an assist trophy. An assist trophy that ends up being more useless then getting Goldeen from a Pokèball.

  1. That’s pretty fair. Amiibo basically works the same way for the most part, with a couple exceptions. It never segments off large parts of a game, with the exception of Mario Party (which only requires 1 Amiibo of any kind and is sold below the typical price as a result.

    1. If Miyamoto is a wash up, then what the hell are you then? Oh wait, you are a no life troll who has zero talent and a knowledge of a 2 year old.
Now sod off and go find a life and you’re dignity…

      1. It’s the truth blind fanboy you just can’t except that Nintendo needs to get with the times and focus more on online play. Go sniff a fart from Reggie and tell me what he had for breakfast homo

        1. Who said anything about online play on mine or his comment? I was saying that he has no right to call Miyamoto, or any other game developr washed up. When he doesn’t know how to make a game. What part of that screams fanboy to you? Also, if you have been keeping up with my comments lately, I have been critical about Nintendo’s approach to things. But hey, I guess you can judge how somebody is based in one comment right? It’s easy. Even I can do it. So here goes.
‘Oh my god, you’re such an asshole and such a hater. Go to a website about a company you actually like, rather than troll and hate on a site that is based around a company you don’t like.’
Oh, am I jumping to conclusions about you’re character and what you’re all about. Also, you said homo, therefore you are offically a loser. And on that bombshell…Goodbye

              1. I wish Miiverse was this fun. Sure the trolling & what not would be worse but least I’d be able to vent more on there at the same time. Instead, I have to be “nice” when I really want to just fucking bash them over the head with a fucking hammer. *cough* I’m okay… *left eye twitch*

  2. So I have to buy a McDonald ‘s toy in order to experience a future game I’m going to buy at $59.99.

    1. He never said that though. Did you even read the article or the title for that matter???

    2. “McDonald’s Toy” I don’t remember my McDonald’s toys giving me unlockable extras in games and being fully trainable with AI’s in them that people still haven’t fully figured out. I got those crappy Tiger Electronic toys. :/

  3. Yes, just like splatoon , with amiibo locked content, but mnn, doesn’t seem to mind, so why star fox? Doesn’t bother me. Stop bitching and just enjoy the game

  4. I’m glad that “Star Fox Zero” won’t be an amiibo-loaded affair. Is there any amiibo interactivity in Xenoblade X at all? If not, that’s a route they might consider with a few other titles as well.

        1. Fanboy? I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Read my comment. F.U.C.K O.F.F.
You got that? Or are you to STUPID to read that much. Loser.

    1. >>>True but skins don’t affect the gameplay in any way other than “looking” nice with a different set>>>

  5. Pretty much this is exactly what amiibo should do in most games. Be nothing more than just cosmetic crap, nothing actually vital to the game. Respect Shig, respect.

    1. I thought you were done with Nintendo. So this begs the question. Why are you STILL here???????

  6. At this moment it’s hard to believe Nintendo. They stated they don’t like microtransaction, but now going mobile with that model. Also, state will not go mobile in less then a year now is going mobile. Almost 2 years ago said there will by a miiverse app, never happened. How much you bet once they go mobile the app will appear. Locking content is something the frowned on but look at splatoon, everything so far has been on the disk. They are testing waters with lock content.

Nintendo is changing and r moving forward into mobile no microtransactions, they will not be the company you grew up in a short while.

  7. For anyone that does not believ he is not running game development is crazy, he has to sign off on all this amino stuff. He is part of thus, Nintendo will say what ever to suit their needs. They talk about amigos for star fox and he running that one too.

All he said was he does want to do amino for this one. The rest is just PC crap. He believes in amibos, because it’s a money maker and people are buying them up like they are gold.

Only game that is worth it is smash bros, everything else is a new dlc purchase for stupid stuff.

Microtransactions are a thing of the future and Nintendo is finally enter the ring and getting some of that money, you can’t blame them because it’s proven there are millions in that ring. Between dlc and microtransactions is pure profit. 20mins of labor create a new skin and millions of cash from us downloading said crap.

  8. While just a cosmetic addition to the game, an alternate skin is still locked content. Now if using an amiibo unlocked an extra life or something like they do in Hyrule Warriors with the materials for badges or rupees, it isn’t locked content anymore since there are other means to get the stuff in the game that the amiibo gave you. Mario Kart 8 Nintendo character costumes for Mii racers is one such example of locked content. A new weapon for Link in Hyrule Warriors when using Link or Toon Link amiibo is locked content. Whether it’s necessary or not, it’s still locked content when there is no other means to unlock it in the game no matter how you slice it.

  9. Nintendo needs to make a game geared towards Amiibo. A real game. Not the Amiibo Tap thing. A real game. A series would be even better. And then stop adding Amiibo content to other games, aside from maybe extra money or lives. That way Amiibo buyers won’t feel screwed for getting nothing much out of their NFC characters, and people who don’t buy Amiibo won’t feel screwed for the locked in content they don’t get. Problem solved.

    1. Before they do that, they need to amend the horrible stock issues plaguing amiibo- why have an amiibo-centric game when only a few individuals can get the figures?

Can you imagine if Skylanders or Disney Infinity had stock issues like this? They would be damned for it because the game those figures are tied to could only be played by very few people.

If Nintendo released a game that only worked with amiibo and those amiibo had the severe stock problems many current figures do, alongside the scalping issue which is also prevalent, very few people would be able to play the game, and that WILL NOT make the company look good. We can already see a pending instance with Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival.

And a general rule of thumb I think they should have considered after at least Wave 2 stock issues: don’t announce/produce another wave of figures if you can’t even meet demand for the current ones. Plenty of Smash Wave 3 figures such as Rosalina (thanks in part from the waste of flesh MariotehPlumber), Shulk, and Dedede are near-impossible to find, which angers supporters, yet instead of making sure people can get these characters, they decide to move on with Wave 4, which had the worst pre-order period and launch to date.

      Exposition over.

  10. Thank goodness but will he stay true to his statement? I don’t know. Costumes are negligible content in my eyes but if I can unlock costumes or little cosmetic items in-game like Yoshi’s Whooly World, I would be absolutely fine with the amiibo addition.
