Forbes recently had the opportunity to catch up with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime after this year’s E3 event. The publication quizzed Reggie regarding why there was no new Nintendo hardware showcased at the show. Fils-Aime pointed towards the New Nintendo 3DS as a piece of hardware they have recently launched and also teased that they may release “new variants”. Whether he just means releasing additional colour schemes for the New Nintendo 3DS XL, or alternatively bringing over the standard New Nintendo 3DS, remains to be seen. Here’s what Reggie Fils-Aime had say at this year’s E3 event.
“Our focus is over the current six- to nine-months. In our handheld space, we’ve just launched the new Nintendo 3DS XL. So from that standpoint, there is no new hardware coming over the next six- to nine-month period. There might be some new variants. The thing about the handheld space, consumers love new designs, new colors. And we’ll continue to offer those types of experiences. But there’s not going to be a fundamentally new piece of handheld tech coming out.”

It’s bullshit. 3DS owners should be able to play and download games from all past handheld systems. Wii U gets GBA games but we dont? Why punish us for Not buying a Wii U?
The least they should do is release DS games on 3DS eShop considering that 3DS can play DS games by default without emulations and whatnot.

it’s so funny how Reggie has gone from being one of my favorite people at Nintendo to now one of the most annoying person at Nintendo. I Get that he is one of the big faces at Nintendo and as such he has to represent the company but at the same time Reggie, don’t look at something that is clearly red and try to convince me that it’s black. stop pulling the same shit out of your ass all the time. we all know that sales wise, the WiiU has failed horribly and that most major WiiU projects have been pushed over to the NX for a late 2016 release. i know you don’t want to talk about the NX right now because you don’t want to shoot the WiiU in the leg on it’s way out but you can at least admit that the damn thing was a commercial failure. i love my WiiU and will always love it’s great game but i’m excited for the future and the NX. Please don’t disappoint me Nintendo.

It’s a better 3ds with a stupid name and more powerfully internally and it is overall better than all past DSes, I own one and its pretty good only gripes are the gloss finish on exterior but it’s not a big deal and that so far the only exclusive for it is a port of Xenoblade from the Wii

Except Scott Moffitt said that they have no plans to bring the regular New 3DS to outside markets. Nintendo seems to have a big problem coordinating their vision and marketing and what their intended focus is across all their markets. It’s just a clusterfuck of damage control, hyperbole, and possible contradictions that cause a very real perception of lack of consistency.

The fact that there’s like no new games out or announced for the New 3DS is pretty telling about the actual need for it.
You’d think they would have learned from the first launch of the 3DS, but I guess not….

For real. Like I’ve said I thousand times, they are in a bad position. Even if they wait until 2017. I don’t know how they’re going to come out on top with this one, there are so many different factors going against them, it looks almost impossible for this to end well.
Also all this talk from them lately has me worried. They say it needs to be cheaper than the Wii U, but the Wii U is already pretty damn cheap. So I’m utterly confused on how they’re are going to make a competitive system that is better and cheaper than the Wii U.
Even if they make a system on par with the PS4 or Xbox One, they’ll still be screwed. So yea, they really are going to have to make something stellar, and I guess if not that, they better bring some serious games to the table, to make up for it.
Good luck Nintendo. As much shit as I give them, I don’t want to see them fail, but they’re making it really hard for themselves.

Weeaboos often want to be Japanese and hate Western culture in favor of Japanese, which often most have never even really experience irl, just from Anime. They are often Anime addicted, and spend tons of money(or their parents money) on anime merchandise, including cosplay, whole DVD boxsets(imported a lot of the times) plushes, and and bad anime video games. They are often pretentious about it(the hardcore ones at least) and think that American animation is crap, not mature, or only uses “crude” art, ignoring the fact that there is nothing mature or realistic about most anime.

Guess I’m not one to talk. I got it for the 3D, and I literally only paid $20 out of pocket for it. So to me it was well worth it for the improved 3D. Now I don’t have to be a statue in order to enjoy the 3D effect.
Would be great if they put something other than Xenoblade on it, but I think even they are scared of splitting the user base like this as far as games go. So I don’t know why they bothered, instead of just waiting to make an entirely new handheld. Was hoping we would have seen some more new games for it at E3, but that flew out the window.

If they weren’t gonna bring over the regular sized one with faceplates they should’ve at least made more colors. They had four at launch, two of which were limited and one of the limited editions was exclusive to GameStop. So we are left with two colors, of which only one is kind of neutral.
They need to do one or the other. I’d like the smaller one mostly cos of the Faceplates, I have bought new 3DS’s before because a new design came out, specifically Pikachu XL and the Zelda Ocarina 3DS. If they release a color I like or a design from a game I like I’d be content. I’d be even happier with the smaller one, but either way…. I just don’t want black or red.

TBH I think I’d be more pissed if they only released the small version. – but as everyone is rightly saying, we need more New 3DS exclusives. 1 just isn’t enough.
I love Xenoblade Chronicles but the fact it is the only n3DS exclusive is just fucking terrible. They should have just remade Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii U with updated graphics & HD textures and not even bothered with the n3DS, even though I’m happy with the improved 3D effect, faster loading times, and what not. I would have gladly waited another year or two for the 3DS’s successor that has improved 3D. I guess like the Wii U, Nintendo is abandoning the console & is focusing on it’s replacement. Which means the only games coming are ones already announced or games that are nearly finished & almost ready for release.
