Nintendo says it remains committed to releasing Wii U and Nintendo 3DS titles while the NX has launched. Obviously I wouldn’t expect the period to happen for too long, but it should be for the first few months. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that the company wants to satisfy those that purchased the Wii U to what he says is “the maximum extent possible.”
“Regarding your concern about what will happen to Wii U or what will happen to Nintendo 3DS, NX is a new platform, so the installed base will have to be built up from zero. When NX is launched, there already will be a certain volume of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U hardware widely existing in the market, so from a software business perspective, it would be highly inefficient to stop releasing titles for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U right after the launch of NX.”
“Therefore, while we are preparing NX for the future, we are discussing within our internal development teams as well as with the second-party developers we co-develop software with and also with third-party software publishers about how to continue creating software for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. So, I believe that your point of concern should not happen immediately. As for Wii U, we will continue to make efforts, as it is a priority within the company to think about how we can satisfy the consumers who purchased this system to the maximum extent possible.”

That and if Nintendo advertises it properly. If they announce and then release great games on the NX AND they advertise it properly, then I will buy it. Because then I know that Nintendo has learnt their lesson from the Wii U on the advertising part. The games are still great on Wii U, I just want a bit more consistency with the releases.
You constantly mention that nx has to be advertised properly for you to consider it as if that’s a big deal for you. It hurt sales of course to non-Nintendo fans with Wii u, but you knew about it yourself and get the stuff you want. Just saying them advertising the system shouldn’t be your top issue with the system nor a reason for you personally to buy it.

I’m just going to say this right now. The Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube games right? Nintendo missed the opportunity to continue making Gamecube games and the Gamecube Controller for the Wii players. Sales of Gamecube games would have increased by a lot.

The Wii, WiiU and possibly 3DS as well, were built off of the GameCube hardware. but since NX is supposed to be a new platform, this might mean that the NX is using completely new hardware and is not backwards compatible because of it and/or the NX is some weird, new way to play games like Hololens is.

Nintendo knows all about their Wii U system, just like how Microsoft knows about their Xbox 360.
What I mean by that is, since Microsoft knows all about their system, they were able to release a backwards compatible update to Xbox One.
NX being a X86 system could theoretically emulate Wii U system software, and Wii software would be obviously the easiest thing to emulate. I say give it time, the NX may seee backwards compatibility after its released.
This is also why Ps4 doesn’t emulate ps3 because ps3 was built with a unique system(cell). Can a X86 emulate cell? Eventually. Maybe PS5 or PS6. Wii U is based off of Wii, which is based off of Gamecube. To say there won’t be backwards compatibility is ridiculous. Will it be there day one? Probably not. I don’t know. Maybe? Maybe it will? But it will come eventually. Nintendo would not create a streaming service like PSnow. It’s just not in their nature.

My concern is that he says it will mainly be second party and third parties supporting the system. I just can’t imagine with how slowly they release first party titles, their teams will be able to be spread so thin, working on 3DS, Wii U and NX games.
And considering the third party situation on the Wii U, that doesn’t bode well with me. They don’t have the best track record with supporting systems, once they release a new one. So once again, I’ll be treading these waters lightly.

They really should stop talking about it. I know they’re being pressured into talking about it in every interview an employee takes part in but the more they discuss it the more people will start thinking twice about picking up a system right now. They’re going to cause s lot of “maybe I should wait until next year and see if there new one is released instead of buying one now”.
The only way I can see Nintendo doing something like this and making it work efficiently is if they plan on doing a lot of cross-gen releases between the Wii U, 3DS, and the NX which is fine but I just hope it’s very short term. They need put as much resources into the NX as possible

Anyway microsoft said that xbox360 would live for 5 more year and their users hasnt had any recent exclusive since the one was ANNOUNCED! We could say the same with the wii amd the gamecube. The WiiU, Xbone & ps4 generation will be a short one. The hardware isn’t strong enough this generation. If the NX is much more powerful than Xbone & ps4, then expect successors for everyone shortly after NX releases.
I really dont care for ps4 an one because i didnt bought those but i DID buy a wiiu and i feel it hasnt been profitable 300€ for 6 games (bayo-mario kart-3Dworld-smash-splatoon-wind waker hd) i hope that the next release change my mind but i doubt it… Im an avid gamer (i expend most of my weekend playing games) and i really feel like the wiiu’s catalogue is too short for a gamer that spend a lot of hours on gaming

I believe Nintendo is working hard to avoid the software drought in 2015 which they promised not gonna happen this year… (how many games release up to now???) .
The E3 was disappointing cause they working on lot of RPGs games for Wii U, which include 1 Pokemon game exclusive to the wii U and other pokemon games are port from the 3DS, 1 fire emblem.
On the 3rd party front, they are going to ask Bandai to put Dragon ball Z, Capcom to put a street fighter, monster hunter 4 as well as resident evil revelation 2.
Because Nintendo working so hard at the minute. In 2016 we will see one game release every month except from June to September (apparently they don’t like releasing games during that period despite the fact it has been proved to be really popular strategy). In 2017 the NX will be out but the Wii U will still be supported for a year because Metroid prime 4 will be out with Zelda wi U (which won’t come in 2016).

I hope while NX is in R&D they are thinking heavy on system specs. I also hope they are thinking of PS5 currently.
They usually start “thinking” about the next console right after the launch of the last. They usually know right away what worked and what didn’t. Unless they’re Nintendo.
They didn’t do too much thinking ahead when Project Café was in R&D though. If they did they would have known to add more than 8 gigs for memory and 1gig for gaming.

This is coming very soon. There is no company out there with shareholders that would allow for such loses to continue on and on for quarters on end. It’s clear that the big guns (Smash, Kart) haven’t done enough to spark sales, so they have to move on from their failure, even if it’s early, even it it means a release outside of the holiday season.

I think the 3ds has a lot of great 3rd party games like Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey games, Shin Megami Tensei games, and much more. The Wii U doesn’t have much support from third party or first party in comparison to the 3ds.
I hope they are thinking of at least 9 cores while the NX is in R&D. I also hope they are thinking between 4-8gigs for the OS and gaming system. I also hope they are thinking of Pikmin 4 while NX is in R&D.

lolwut. That’s the case for ANY new hardware for the Big 3 – there’s always the previous generation that’s been out there for years. By that logic, a company should continue to put a good amount of effort into games for the previous console generation, which eventually wastes time and money.
Also, I guarantee. GUARAN-FUCKING-TEE that this stance is complete and utter bullshit, just like how they said the DS would exist alongside the GBA and Wii – unless the NX is something completely different and won’t cater towards the regular gamers (both casual and hardcore) and is something totally out there (their QoL shit? something more with mobile?). But I highly doubt that. As some have already noted, Nintendo is already “supporting” the Wii U in a fashion that shows that they’re slowly abandoning it – and if that’s not their intent, then they’re reinforcing how incompetent they are.

I really wanna know why the 3DS is brought up a lot. To me, it sounds like they want one system going forward. Maybe it’s like a Wii U but your gamepad can be brought with you and played without being connected to the main console…. I don’t see why else one device would be a successor to both systems at once.
The thing that I hate about this whole NX thing is that there’s still no GameCube titles on Wii U and they’ve only just begun bringing N64, DS and Wii games to virtual console (I consider it VC since it’s not a native Wii U game, I don’t know if Nintendo labels it that). They could expand that library pretty quickly if they wanted to, so hopefully they do. That GameCube adapter seemed to be a shining hope of GC on Wii U, so hopefully we get that before the system gets abandoned. I don’t see it having much life after NX, despite what they say.
