Microsoft ‘Completely Discounted Nintendo Because Of GameCube’ When Launching Xbox 360

IGN has uploaded an extremely interesting podcast which quizzes Xbox creator Seamus Blackley, Head of Xbox during the 360 launch Peter Moore, and current Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, to share the backstory to the launch of three Xbox consoles. During the podcast it was revealed that when Microsoft was launching the Xbox 360 they completely discounted Nintendo and were focussed at beating Sony with the PlayStation 3. The reason why was that the GameCube wasn’t a success for Nintendo so they didn’t believe the company posed a threat to their plans. However, Phil Spencer conceded that the Wii destroyed both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with regards to sales. Here’s what the key figures at Xbox had to say.

“I also then remember the E3 when, God bless, Kaz Hirai and Jack Tretton announced $599, and we were all back stage like ‘Woohoo!’,” Moore shared in IGN’s Podcast Unlocked. “We knew then we had an opportunity to get ahead, drive ahead, get our games out quickly and get that lead. And I always said that the first to 10 million wins.”

He continued, “It was one of the greatest times of my career. You had to build a team, because we were growing then. We had prematurely put the Xbox to sleep, we needed to get ready for this and we knew what we needed to do.

“We had a three-day meeting at the Sheraton in Bellevue where we wargamed the scenario, and I actually played Ken Kutaragi. And we brought in a consultancy, it was a lot of fun. And the one thing we’d forgotten about, I don’t know if you remember this Phil [Spencer], we completely discounted Nintendo. Because they came off the GameCube and it was a disaster.”

Spencer added, “…and they destroyed both of us!”

Moore continued, “Yes, with the Wii. But we wargamed for three days, what are you going to do, what do the launch titles look like, what are the marketing budgets, what is the positioning? And it was a fascinating experience which I’ll never forget. And this is a decade ago. And I actually played Ken, and my job was to destroy the launch of the Xbox 360.”

  1. They should continue to do so. Nintendo’s obviously trying to fuck everything up and compete with air.

          1. I know right? Either that, or there is something that he is trying to tell us. Is his comment actually how he personally feels?

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>There is nothing wrong with giving an Xbot a butthurt, even if it’s their leader, it pleases me that much more knowing that they suffer>>>

            1. Yeah so butthurt, cause you know they mentioned Wii in two sentences the whole interview. Pretty sure they aren’t buthurt considering how they successfully injected a new console into the market and their xbox1 has outsold wiiu in a couple months. How’s that for butthurt you scrub.

              1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                >>>You start a pointless battle with me that you would never win anyway based on some silly joke a human made>>>

              2. can I just add with MS numbers all we get is the units sent to the distribution not the sales to the end-user. Xbox 1 took nearly a year, a price drop (well removal of the kinect), stop the production of xb1 for 3 months and shitloads of marketing which include a very good black friday deal to outsold the wii U. I should also point out that Nitendo did shit in term of marketing and pay the price of their mistakes

    1. I personally like Wii U more than the Wii. Why? I can watch Youtube no problem on Wii U, I like Mario Kart 8 more than Mario Kart Wii, dispite me playing more than 400 hours worth of Mario Kart Wii total and I think it’s at least nice not needing a T.V to use the console, but that might just be me.

      1. Have you ever wondered how sad is to have a console which has no more than 3 or 4 well worth games?

MK8 is indeed far superior than any other game from the franchise, fact. But the fact that you can watch YouTube on the Wii U… First of all, there is a myriad of devices able to streaming YouTube nowadays — tablets, smartphones, besides PCs, of course — and I bet you have at least one of them in your household. So what’s the adavantage in having a Wii U for that?

And, secondly, the Wii is capable of streaming YouTube videos as well. Some hiccups here and there, but still.

        1. I’m talking about the experience of being able to watch Youtube compared to Wii. Everybody is entitled to an opinion, you have yours and I have mine. And I respect that. In terms of the game release frequency on Wii U, then see my reply to your comment below.

          1. I’ve got your point. But I wish we could talk about the Wii U as “a fantastic device on which we had lots of fantastic games from Nintendo and third parties.

Home consoles should be about the games, not the apps.

            Did I make myself clear?

            1. Advertising. We would have been talking about how the Wii U is “a fantastic device on which we had lots of fantastic games from Nintendo and third parties,” if Nintendo actually advertised the dang thing.

                1. And making core games that the fans actually want. Instead we get buttfuck tons of crossovers as an excuse for “third party support” and then making more “familiar to the last” games instead of trying to make something groundbreaking or different. Yet we now get more BS party games that’s holding all standard online interactivity back like voice chat.

                  1. As someone else said in other thread here at MNN… Federation Force made Other M look a fantastic game!

Also, I still remember when Nintendo announced Retro’s DCKTF… LOL That was underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed DKCTF, but… I really wanted a Metroid or a Star Fox that moment.

                    1. The reason why Tropical Freeze underperformed was because nobody expected nor wanted another DK game from Retro especially when Returns was coming for 3DS. They wanted them back on Metroid/Prime after Other M nearly ruined the series with its shitty story and shitting on the superior Prime trilogy for being “non-canon” which pissed off many Metroid fans like me even though Prime chronically connected the main series with Chozo and Federation back stories like their treaty which is CANON and that’s the thanks Retro gets for reviving Metroid in a big way..by making one of the most beloved and solid a sci-fi trilogies ever, for nothing but get a big fuck you from Nintendo by making Prime “non-canon” and hardly little to no celebratory featuring for Smash Bros. games?!

                      1. DKC:TF has got to be the best 2D platformer that I’ve ever played. It’s got style, charm, and great gameplay imo, and, for now, I guess it’ll be remembered as a great DKC game, rather than an amazing 2D platformer, worthy of awards.

                        1. Umm, no. It’s more or less of the same as Returns. It’s nothing of a huge leap change compare to DKC2. DKC2 is THE BEST DK game ever. Different atmosphere, expanded challenges, new character with different gameplay mechanic, better boss fights, it got it all. One of the best video game sequels ever created next to Mario Bros. 3 and Super Metroid.

                          1. *DISCLAIMER: My opinion is not fact, but I like DKC:TF a lot more than Returns, 1, 3, and even 2. DKC 2 is a good game, but I honestly prefer DKC:TF, for its level design, music (yes, I like DKC:TF’s music more than DKC 2’s, but only because it has remixes of the best DKC 2 songs, besides Forest Interlude and Crocodile Cacophony, and it even has its own amazing music), and DKC:TF’s bosses are actually my favorite in the series (Punch Bowl and Lord Frederick FTW). Even if we can’t agree on which of those games are better, I bet we can at least agree that Returns wasn’t as good as either of them (seriously, all of Return’s levels felt like they were just repeating themselves, up until the last world). There are some things that I like better in DKC 2 than Freeze though, and that’s the Bonus Challenges. All the challenges in DKC 2 were unique and fun, but there were only like 5 different challenges in DKC:TF which were sometimes fun. Another thing is collectibles, which had a reward in DKC 2 for collecting them all, but you only get a reward in DKC:TF for collecting KONG letters, which are all in plain sight, and it doesn’t feel as satisfying as DKC 2’s reward. They’re both awesome games, but I like DKC:TF a little bit more.

                            1. Tropical Freeze is better in some areas but what still annoys me is that I still can’t willingly play as any other characters like from the old trilogy by Rare. I still gotta piggyback them of their gimped abilities and its bullshit. The music..thank god for David Wise’s comeback. :3 But somehow it’s not as nostalgic or memorable as his composing work from DKC2; best game soundtrack ever made.

                            2. Yeah, I’m aware about the Metroid fans beef towars Other M… But at least it wasn’t the Federation Force lame we saw during the E3.

Also, on Prime trilogy: yeah, that 3 games are badass! Absolutely fantastic.

Isn’t it impressive that the Wii had so many amazing titles like those?

                          2. you forgot, that nintendo could make a remake of a lot of Nintendo games which are 3DS exclusives and fans want on wii U (i.e fire emblem series). get a studio to make it and we will have 5 games per months.

                            1. And you forgot that Nintendo’s arrogance kills their common sense and rather focus on making more fucking toys and party games for the non-existent casuals than making core games for the remaining fan base left.

                      2. Imo, they had the most stupid advertisements for Splatoon that I’ve ever seen. They would have been okay if they would have steered clear of the dumbass songs they put in them. The actual music in Splatoon is awesome, and they had a lot to work with but they chose not to do anything really creative and just slapped a horrible song over some gameplay. We should have had an advertisement that was a parody of the usual “dark and depressing” FPS/TPS commercials. Nintendo has the money, so why the heck don’t they hire GOOD advertisement specialists.

                2. “3 or 4” I own about like 10 Wii U games currently and want another 10 that are already out. And another 5 that have yet to come out. 25 games is a pretty good number of good games personally. I don’t even have that many for the Xbox 360

                  1. Yea I agree with MR. Anonymous, the Wii U has a lot of great games, it just lacks some of those core games everyone wants like metroid and Animal Crossing. I’m not saying the Wii U is perfect by any stretch, but it does have some great games that were well worth my 300$ + cost of game.

                    1. Wholeheartedly speaking… Other than MK8, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors, I don’t see exclusive games being considered outstanding.

My top-3 games are Bayonetta 2, MK8 and Deus Ex HR — being the latter a multiplat. This is pretty sad.

                  2. A lot of times, I got Wii U games only because there was a game drought, and I really enjoyed them, when I never would have played them otherwise. (Lego City Undercover, Scribblenauts Unmasked, NFS Most Wanted U, Rayman Legends, and Wonderful 101).

                3. Smash Bros. Wii U is super superior then MK8 i got super bored with MK8 Smash Bros. got more Content then MK8 Smash bros. got alot of characters is gonna get tourney tournament soon. and more better stages.

                  1. Smash 4 is basically Brawl with more characters. They didn’t add anything new mechanically to make it different or more interesting. Every iteration of Street Fighter and almost every Mortal Kombat has new gameplay mechanics.

                      1. Yes their are very minor changes to each character but there isn’t much new at all. Compare Smash 64 to Melee, or Melee to Brawl.

                        Smash 64 to Melee:
                        + chargeable smash attacks
                        + side specials
                        + air dodges
                        + bigger roster
                        + Adventure mode, tourney, trophies
                        + graphics overload

                        Melee to Brawl:
                        + multiple air dodges
                        + final smashes
                        + bigger roster
                        + subspace, stickers, online
                        + another graphics overhaul
                        – removed race to the finish, and board the platforms

                        Brawl to 4:
                        + bigger roster
+ characters basically look the same but now in HD
+ a slightly better but still poor online mode ( I have 20 Mbps btw so it isn’t me)
                        – removed break the targets, subspace, and still haven’t implemented tourney for stupid crap like smash tour, bomb the targets

There weren’t any new fighting mechanics added to this iteration. Sure there are exploits like dodge cancelling but where are the new features advertised. Like how SF4 had the ultra combo system, or SF5 will have the new v-trigger system. And please don’t mention Smash Run or Smash Tour, those are new modes (not mechanics) and they suck in comparison to Subspace in my opinion.

It’s just Brawl 2.0 at 1.5x the speed with no tripping and with some character balancing. But I’m sure if you’re happy with this then you’re one of the people who is fine with more of the same.

                        1. All of that may be true…but when it all comes down to it, it’s all about how the actual smash mode is with friends. And it’s better than brawl. It’s faster like you said and there is no tripping. And the characters aren’t as floaty. That all right there makes it worth the purchase. I 100% all my smash games then never go back to single player modes. And most people are like that, if they even play the single player modes besides to unlock all the stages/fighters. Having a smash with random tripping for like six years was trash.

                        2. Don’t forget, the ledge mechanics are different, and custom moves can really change some characters. Also (minor thing) you can charge the smashes with the c-stick.

                          1. True, I forgot about the new ledge tactics. That’s a good new mechanic. The c-stick thing I consider as kinda like a new custom control, it doesn’t really change the gameplay much. I like the new ledge mechanic but the game still feels like a sped up Brawl to my friends and I. We quit playing it a couple months after release. It was better than Brawl but didn’t feel different. We were kinda underwhelmed.

I wish they would have added a new fighting mechanic. I don’t know what it would be, maybe a new type of maneuver to use with one of the shoulder buttons? They can’t just add more characters next game, it will further stagnate the series.

                4. I have sixteen Wii U games that I play regularly. And there are a number of releases that I am anticipating this year. Either you enjoy what Nintendo and its partners churn out, or you don’t.

              1. You can still watch YouTube on Wii U via browser (the app is trash anyway), Mario Kart Wii was fun, online is functional (not anymore cause it’s discontinued) but at least it didn’t fuck up Battle Mode like MK8 did which is why I’m playing MK7 now AND Wii has more character variety than the clonefest in MK8 with metals and cat suit bullshit instead of adding Diddy Kong or Petey Piranha.

            2. I like my 3DS more than Wii U and it has more features than Wii U. How the fuck is that even possible? Because Nintendo has gone retarded on supporting anything right anymore.

              1. It’s Nintendo as usual, constantly behind competitors, while Sony has always had their same teams working on their handhelds and consoles, Nintendo seriously had entirely separate sectors working on each, that clearly do not even communicate with each other.

How that happens is beyond me.

People can talk shit about the Vita all they want if they’d like, even the PSP, but these devices worked well with their console counterparts, and they did not severely lack the same features those consoles saw.

Every time I turn on my Wii U, I think of this glaring flaw. The Wii U OS is such mess in my opinion compared to the 3DS’s, it’s so miminal and a lot of it doesn’t make sense. Like why do I need to press a button just to see the date and time? Something every other OS in the world displays on the first screen… Simple mistakes like that are unacceptable. Even the 3DS makes it easier to exit out of games, why does it take more steps to exit a game on the Wii U? It should be the same.

The Wii U’s OS should not be lesser than that of the 3DS. As to why they finally merged sectors, so here’s to hoping the NX is better, but if it ends up being true in that it won’t even compete with current consoles again… Then I can’t say it will even matter for me.

It will be a day late and a dollar short.

                1. Vita in fact had flopped for the same reason Wii U did but along with expensive memory cards instead of the standard SD cards and the majority of game are watered down PS3 ports severely lacking in variety and originality. It does work as intended but it wasn’t the console PSP use to be in those terms. It’s was trying to be a PS3 a little too much instead of its own thing which is how Nintendo’s handhelds worked all these years.

But you made a good point and now Nintendo’s flaws are revealing itself so much that some are realizing it and no longer tolerate it. Now with NX being said it won’t compete the others, it’s just another Wii/U all over again and I’ve had it with fucking gimmicks. I just want a console with standard controllers and shitton of kickass games from both sides but it’s not going to happen now. It’s why I quit Nintendo.

                1. 3DS has more and better stuff. The browser may suck and there’s a little lesser prowers in some areas (which is why there’s a New 3DS update) but it’s still a stellar system. I just wish it had SNES/N64/Gameboy Advance games in its eShop, universal account, friend messaging/registry system, plays/purchase movies and online storage/backup function like Apple’s iCloud.

            3. Wii is a good console it has an idea (MOTION CONTROL) and it uses it well in most of its games. Wiiu is a disgrace no original ideas (done before with the ds) and no use of it… And… NO GAMES while the wii was launch with SUPER MOTHER FUCKING MARIO GALAXY which is best game ever.

            4. I’ve made more memories with my Wii in 3 years than I have with my Wii U for it’s entire lifetime. Wii U has very little to play with in the games department and is the worst game purchase I’ve felt I’ve ever made. If Nintendo doesn’t release any hard information on their “NX” by the end of the year or have any other games for the Wii U, then I will probably ask for a ps4 during the holidays.

              1. I really enjoyed my Wii. Actually, I still play more Wii games than Wii U ones.

I also feel the same for the Wii U. It purchased it day one, and had high hopes for it… Now I wonder how I could believe all the imprecise speeches from Nintendo about it…

                1. Yea, the Wii just had so many more games. And even Nintendo tells you, software sells hardware.

Nintendo’s reluctance to appease 3rd parties has lost them this generation.

            5. As a console, at the time of launch, I liked the Wii the best, but, imo, the Wii U has as good (if not better) games so far as the Wii did at this point in its life cycle.

          2. Didn’t the original Xbox sell just a couple of million more than Gamecube? Sure, it’s alright for a first console, but it was the worst debut console out of the 3 companies. So technically speaking, they shouldn’t have discounted Nintendo after the Gamecube. Also, remember this, the PS2 absolutely destroyed BOTH the Gamecube and the Xbox. The only video game system to get close to PS2 sales, was the DS. And with my previous statement about how Xbox outselling the Gamecube by only a few million isn’t really that big of a margin, the same can be said about the PS2/DS situation.

            1. Well both Sony and Nintendo would discount the Xbox theoretically then. But from a competitive standpoint, it’s about thinking what your competition would do, and Microsoft was focused on beating Sony’s PS3, not their own console. They discredited Nintendo because of the GameCube, which is ironic since they themselves were trying to pull up sales after the Xbox and didn’t predict Nintendo would do the same.

            2. Yes it did sold slightly more than GameCube but they underestimated Nintendo back then thinking their next console wouldn’t be an issue to them. Then the Wii happened and it sold 20+ million units for 3 consecutive years straight which came as a surprise to both Sony and Microsoft which is where their motion control clones came in trying to steal Nintendo’s thunder.

          3. This is what we call unbridled business, my friends.

Anyways, game wise the Wii was cool enough, I think. Nintendo had great 3rd party support for the Wii and we had great exclusives — both first and third party ones.

            1. Agreed. Whereas I prefer the Wii U to the Wii, it was nice to get consistant First and Thrid Party games on the Wii, something I can only wish was the case with Wii U.

              1. Right. (I gave you an answer on the Wii vs. Wii U above.)

But about the Wii’s library: that is an amazing one. There is a lot of misinformation about it, even among Nintendo fans, which is very sad.

                1. Wow, I referenced my reply to your comment above and you did the same to me here. That is freaky and absolutely unplanned…XD

          4. Glorious times for both Nintendo&Xbox.

Nintendo got the crown back with their most successful homeconsole and they had their dominating handheld system at the market same time.

Peter Moore had to be happy aswell with Xbox360 being more successful than Ps3 after how Sony dissed the Dreamcast and forced retailers to make more shelf space for crappy Ps2 launch titles at the expense of Dreamcast titles when DC was at its prime, no doubt Moore felt good to see Sony screwing it up.

This is not hate comment towards Sony or PlayStation brand, its just that Sony got what they deserved and after that ridicilously prised Ps3 they needed kick on the nuts so they could later on improve and fix their mistakes.

But anyways, this just proves that nothing is set on stones, console market can be quite surprising. Maybe NX will become system that sells 300 million units, sounds crazy but Wii and DS prove that no matter what “experts” say about this stuff or gamers whine on comment sections, anything can happen. Fuck for all we know Federation Forces will outsell WiiSports and became the best Metroid title EVER! (NOTE! I dont like MP:FF but chances for its success cannot be ruled out just yet)

            1. I’ll just say relying on casuals for a business model is stupid. If history has shown anyone anything, solely relying on casuals all the time will kill you. Look at people like Nokia, Nintendo has been going the same exact route. Nokia used to be extremely popular, just like the Wii was, but they did not ever adapt to the market that was shifting around them, that was the problem. And when they finally decided to, it was too late. Now look at Nokia.

Nintendo could be said to be in the same boat, they focus on casuals more than anything and they are stubborn not to adapt and change with the demands of this newer market, as they are truly stuck in the past. Casuals have moved on from Nintendo systems, and because of this it has hurt the Wii U in one of many ways, which is blatantly obvious. If every person who bought the Wii thought it was that good, and it wasn’t mainly casuals who owned the system, the Wii U would have been a huge success from the name alone. It wasn’t even close though, which shows how many casual people owned the Wii in the first place.

The problem is that even though the Wii had a bunch of good games, it was generally filled with casual shovelware and attracted them so, and those casuals who made the system so popular, have moved on from this to the next popular fad. As casuals are not a reliable consumer and the same could be said about the 3DS user base.

You’d have to work really hard to capture the casual audience each and every single time. And you most likely won’t be successful at it, as no business on this planet ever has.

              1. Wow, one of the experts that i was talking about, managed to write all that knowledge and shared all those genius words, wow you changed my views, you know it all, i wish you will find success along with Pachter guiding all these multibillion dollar companies to the right path.

          5. There’s an old saying: Never underestimate your competition especially around the time when Nintendo made a comeback. But this time, I doubt that’ll happen again with NX and this time, I’m not following or helping them succeed. They’ve officially lost it with being lazy and not doing exactly what made them famous in the past; making core games and a system EVERYONE can hop in and enjoy playing/building with.

            1. “They’ve officially lost it with being lazy”

Exactly my thoughts. Nintendo has gotten extremely lazy nowadays because of the fanboys which support 100% of their BS to death.

Catering casuals was not the worst decision Nintendo ever made, but betraying and abandoning the fans which have been supporting the company since the NES days.

                1. You know… I can’t help blaming the fanboys… Since this E3 they must be celebrating everyday the rock bottom Nintendo has hit.

                  1. I don’t see how they screwed over fans of the NES. I always found the Wii and Wii U fun. Though the Wii less than the Wii U.

And last e3 sucked because they’re preparing for the NX. What were they supposed to announce for the Wii U?

The worst thing nintendo has done in the last 15 years is probably their YouTube policy imo. That thing sucks.

                    1. I think the E3 was a failure due to the lack of a medium/long-term planning… Nintendo seems to be disconnected from the reality…

It doesn’t make sense to frustrate your fanbase like that.

They just gained a lot of negativity after E3.

                    2. Perhaps “of the NES” was too broad a term. It’s probably more accurate to say “their hardcore, loyal supporters who have been with them since their first few consoles” (like me, starting with the N64 and GB Color). Regardless, we feel betrayed and ignored.

“Oh, you want a home console Animal Crossing in HD? Well we’ve got a Mario Party clone set in the world of AC for you, and it will require amiibo figures to even play it.”

“We’ve heard your cries for a new Metroid game. We understand the latest game, Other M, wasn’t the most well-received Metroid, but we know what to do to make it up to you guys- a four-player shooting gallery as nameless Federation troopers set in the non-canon world of the Prime series! We’ve also changed the art style to make it more appealing to people who have never heard of Metroid before- look at how cute that Parasite Queen is! And the bet part yet: soccer! Metroid has never been more sporty!”

And DON’T even get me started on amiibo in general…

“Introducing amiibo! We know that certain characters will sell way more than others, so we’ll only make about 500 Marth figures even though there are more than 500 Marth players/fans out there. We also don’t plan on making these figures forever, regardless of demand for them, so head to your local game store, bring some camping gear, and sit in line for days on end in hopes of getting a figure you were doomed not to get from the start.”

I love Nintendo- have for years, and seeing them make blunder after blunder like this in such a short time span just hurts my inner child.

                  2. And what do they have anything to do with it? The company is fucking up because of themselves, not the fans. Do you blame the fans for Capcom canceling and canning Megaman? Do you blame them for Konami turning their backs on them by basically saying: “mobile is the future of gaming so fuck you guys for supporting us for all these years”? EA did the same but everyone with a functional brain knows EA is plain fucking stupid and greedy.

                    1. They support Nintendo with their wallets in a way Nintendo will never understand the meaning of “fanservice” — fanservice for the real, hardcore fans.

This isn’t that hard to see.

                      1. From the looks of Wii U, those number should’ve spelled out that damn message but they still are arrogant to realize the obvious flaws. So be it. Let them fail again and again.

                        1. Yeah, that doesn’t mean that people at Nintendo are arrogant and such.

That Project HAMMER thing tell a lot what Nintendo is about.

I don’t see they turning the fate of their home console division — that’s why the NX will likely be an handheld travested and marketed as a “hybrid”.

That’s why they merged their home console and handheld divisions recently.

We’ll get handheld games marketed as “hardcore home consoles experiences”. I already can imagine Reggie saying that.

Nintendo’s soul has gone with Yamauchi.

                              1. Now I can see why. All this time, they’re still sour towards America, probably over WW2 when it’s Japan who started that bullshit. X/ They are truly fucking stubborn and cocky of their pride.

                              2. Right.

On top of that, then Iwata shows up and say that they will find a “Nintendo-like solution” for the NX… Hahahaha, pretty laughable!

                  1. Then SCREW HIM!! He just about freaked everyone in the gaming community to death, and Sickr better post something about this so people will stop freaking out! I knew this guy couldn’t be trusted I just knew it, I guess we will have to wait for E3 to know the truth.

                  2. I say 5jat in the article that it was impossible to make a console less powerful than the ps4. Even having minimal specs chamge can give you a very powerful console. Not x86 procesor amd screw the jaguar cpu and make the 8 gigs of ddr5 shared not separate and done.

                    1. I am going to let sleeping dogs lay, it will be more fun when console is revealed at e3 next year (at least in part) and its a surprise to people.

              1. If one cannot believe in his first tweet, how one can believe in his second one?

My point is… It is still too early to make any hardware prediction about the NX, specially because we are speaking of Nintendo.

                1. You can make a 30% more powerful console that what sony did with the ps4 2 years ago for the same production price. Lets see where this goes first.

                  1. Yeah, that would be financially possible.

But, you know what? Even with a powerful console, I barely believe 3rd party support will come again…

                    1. A different sales strategy might bring them back. Power isn’t the bottom line for most 3rd parties its money and profits.

              2. The Gamecube was (and still is) better than ANYTHING the Xbox ever did. I freakin’ HATE the Xbox brand!

              3. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                >>>I’ll discount you in the near future as well Xbots, with “interest”>>>

              4. pink0crystal0midbus

I loved my Wii. It was such a revolution. I just wish the console ended on a better note. It was just left in the dust by Nintendo while they released the Wii U, which was a complete failure. :/

                1. IT SHOULDNTHAVE ENDED NINTENDO BACKED OFWITH THERE DISRUPTION

THE WII SHOULD HAVE HAD MORE CORE GAMES AND SHOOTERS ETC TOWARDSTHE END OF ITS LIFE

Wii U should havethen released as Wii HD with a wii remote plus nunchuck and pro pad all bundeled in

one year in (like wii motion plus and balance board) gamepad should have been released as U pad with software shoing it off

PRESTO NINTENDO WOULD HAVE ENDED SONY FOR GOOD

                  NINTENDO GOT ARAGENT

              5. LOL GAMECUBE MADE 100S OF MILLIONS IN PROFIT AND ACTUALLY OUT SOLD THE XBOX WITCH PEOPLE TO THIS DAY WONT ADMIT

XBOX ORIGINAL LOST 4 BILLION DOLLARS

NINTENDO WARNED THE WHOLE INDUSTRY “””WE ARE GOING INTO A ERA OF DISRUPTION””””

WHILST X360 LOST BILLIONS WII MADE BILLIONS

                reality VS internet fantasy

LOL MS XBOX BRAND HAS LOST 20 BILLION DOLLARS TO DATE

                1. Thats just not true. You spew more inaccurate information than anybody on this site, ten times over. The Xbox brand has not lost 20 BILLION! Lmaoooo!!! Where the HELL do you get your crazy shit from?

I can assure you if the Xbox brand even lost ONE BILLION, the Xbox division would no longer exist…

I personally dont like Xbox, or Microsoft as a whole, but the truth is Microsoft has made a killing off the Xbox 360.

                  1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                    >>>Only because they knew that the mindless cattle would buy those defected machines 2-3 times again because of the Red Ring>>>

              6. Galactus The Planet Devourer

The problem with Nintendo and the Wii U. Well there are a few problems but one major one is that not only do they have next to Zero marketing but when they do advertise it its aimed toward a demographic and audience that doesn’t exist. I mean 7-12yr olds? Why such a small range? Everyone knows kids that age want what teens want and teens want “adult content” so aim for more “T” and “M” rated content. Not saying stop making games for everyone but if you only make games rated “E” you’re holding yourself back. Fact!

              7. It’s funny they talk about that because I’m thinking about trading in the ps4 for a xbox 360. This gen is just trash. The only consoke I’ve played consistantly is the Wii U

                  1. tis the only NEXT GEN SYSTEM the industry could have expressed actual talent on it

ps4 is a brand NOT A EVOLUTION xbox is a brand NOT A EVOLUTION

only nintendo is taking gaming forward

a box andavdualshock isnt NEXT GEN

                    1. I don’t believe next gen consoles have to necessarily be in innovative, but they just need better specs, more games, and maybe a feature or two to keep it fresh. Nintendo always tries to be innovative and failed, yet Sony and Microsoft did as I mentioned and are selling well. In all honesty I rather have a console similar to the ps4 made by Nintendo so I can get both Nintendo’s amazing first parties and all the great third parties. Not all innovation is good, yet Nintendo won’t steer away from it and instead continue to dig their own graves.

                      1. DS and wii I don’t think failed bro. So I’m sure that’s why they keep trying to be innovative.

                        1. The DS line did well because it’s only competition was the PSP and because it had tons of support and a variety of games. Similarly the 3DS was just a ramped up DS with added optional 3D, regardless it was easy to develop for. The Wii was the first to introduce motion gaming and so people flocked to it which led to developers flocking to it as well. The Wii U is different from the DS and Wii. Where as Nintendo created something fresh with the first two the Wii U was an attempt to win over casuals who left the gaming markets for mobile with a tablet like controller. Nintendo failed in all areas though, not only did they not regain the casual crowd, but the gamer crowd also turned their backs after the Wii U received very little support and Nintendo isn’t even putting out a lot of games for it. Being innovative is all good and dandy, but if you’re not pumping out a variety of titles from all parties no one cares about your gimmicks.

                      2. its not innovation for innovations SAKE its natural PROGRESSION

SECOND STICK IS RETARDED CONSOLES NEEDED A MOUSE FOR TV NINTENDO DELIVERED

D-PAD IN 3D MAPS WAS STUPID SO NINTENDO GAVE US ANOLOG STICK

TOUCH SCREENS OFFER GREAT DEPTH OF INTERACTION AND PRECISION NINTENDO DELIVERED AGAIN

nintendo doesnt innovate for the sake of it THEY KNOWHOW GAMING NEEDS TO EVOLVE THEN WHEN THE TECH ALLOWS BRING IT TO MARKET

                        FACT

WII REMOTE WAS PLANNED YEARS AGO , NINTENDO TOOK 2D TO 3D WITH N64 AND GAVE US ANOLOG STICK

ADVANCED GYROS CAN REVOLUTIONIZE GAMING BRING 3D COTROLS ARE REALISTIC INTERACTION LIKE STEERING A CAR OR FLYING A PLAIN OR AIMING WITH MOUSE LIKE PRECISION

NINTENDO MAKES GIMKICKS IS A LIE THEY MOVE WITHTHE TIMES WHEN THE TECH ALLOWS IT TO HAPPEN

                        IN GAMECENTRIC WAYS

                  2. In all honesty this generation of games has far surpassed my expectations. 2015 has been a really strong year for third party games… 2016 will be even better… Sell your ps4, your loss..

                1. You’re going to regret that when No Man’s Sky and Morpheus comes out. Both of those together will be insane.

Besides you can get Xbox 360s for about $50 now so why trade it in?

                2. Wha?.? …………..Dude, have you played Bloodbourne? Diablo 3? Dark Souls 2, or the Witcher 3? What about Arkham Knight? Not to mention TONS of awsome PSN games. Fallout 4 releases real soon aswell. I cant begin to tell you how hyped I am for Fallout 4. That game alone justifies a Ps4. Just like Xenoblade X justifies a Wii U..

If your not enjoying your Ps4, you dont like videos games.

              8. When I got to this article I had my Mp3 on shuffle, the song that came up was “The Encounter” from Kingdom Hearts 2. Made reading through this dramatic as hell.

                1. Tell me how it is not possible to Nintendo to make a deal with Square-Enix to have the next Kingdom Hearts for Wii U! That makes me reinforce the idea that Nintendo is sh*tting onto the Wii U and onto its fanbase.

                  1. It’s a failure on Nintendo’s part. I would like to ask Reggie, “why isnt KH3 coming to the Wii U”? I would love to see his responce. Nintendo failed to get KH3. End of discussion.

              9. This is one of the main problems with Nintendo. Microsoft and Sony acknowledge Nintendo as a competitor, and adjust accordingly.

Nintendo is in fantasy land where they think they are in a different market than Sony and Microsoft, and continuously remind us that they are not in direct competition with Sony and Microsoft.

But the fact remains, Sony and Microsoft ARE Nintendo’s direct rivals, and whether Nintendo likes it or not, whether they want to admit it or not, those two companies have a direct impact on Nintendo hardware sales….

Nintendo has to start competing against them… admiting thier rivals. Directly and publically competing against Sony and Microsoft, or they will get so far behind they will never catch up….

                1. its you whos in fantasy land
xbox has lost 20 billion to date ps3 almost bankrupted sonyand there still going under

nintendo has profited every gen and wii made more money than every profiting console in history ever combined

going bankrupt is not a success and loosing 20 billion isnt either

                2. And Nintendo does acknowledge them as rivals. Haven’t you seen Reggie throwing “shades” (because… lol) all over Sony and Microsoft about games we aren’t going to see any soon?

                  Yea

              10. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                >>>Xbots: “I also then remember the E3 when, God bless, Kaz Hirai and Jack Tretton announced $599, and we were all back stage like ‘Woohoo!’,”>>>

                >>>I can’t even>>>

              11. THIRD PARTYS HATE NINTENDO THERE IN FEAR OF THEM

PLUS THIRD PARTYS EXPECT TO HAVE NINTENDO GIVE THEM THEE MONEY FOR FREE

                NINTENDO ISNT STUPID

              12. That’s funny, because a 90% discount is the only way an Xbox could ever be worth the price you pay.

              13. Peanut Butter KitKat

Strange that they refer to the Gamecube as a disaster when Nintemdo made a profit on the GC where as Microsoft haven’t made a profit on the Xbox division since its inception…

              14. So the GameCube came in third place than Microsoft decided that Nintendo isn’t competition anymore so what did Microsoft think when they realize they’re 360 came in last place and had a failure rate of 33 percent? Microsoft clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing they never have never will they should just stop doing game consoles and they probably will. Xb1 is definitely the last shitbox.

              15. Which is funny because the Xbox did just as fucking bad. The damn thing only outsold the gamecube by a few measly thousand. Both console sales were beyond pathetic. Only Sony was in a position to say something like that coming out of the GCN/PS2/Xbox era. Microsoft must be delusional.
