One of the surprise announcements of E3 this year was the announcement that Star Fox Zero is being developed by none other than Platinum Games. Yusuke Hashimoto, who also directed Bayonetta 2, says development of the game was very fun, especially collaborating again with Nintendo. However, Hashimoto also revealed that it was “nerve-wracking” when Shigeru Miyamoto stepped in to show them a new idea, asked them what they thought, and they had to come up with a decent answer about whether it should be implemented or not.
“The three of us are always working together and it’s very fun,” Hayashi says, “but obviously when Mr. Miyamoto shows you something and is like, what do you think of this, and you have to come up with a good answer, it’s very nerve-wracking.”
“I’m struck by how fast this goes,” says Hashimoto. “The turnaround between the exchange of the two parties is very quick. It’s a kind of development speed I haven’t really seen before.”

Again, blame both them and Nintendo for their existence. But looking at Sony from PS2, they use to be great and the pinnacle symbol of what Nintendo should’ve been. Now PS4 is continuing that positive path..except Sony is still insisting on playing copycat on what Xbox is doing in a few areas and I hate that. Plus Sony acting all cocky about the competition which the last few times they did that *cough* PS3! *cough* they shot themselves. Of course there isn’t because the 3DS has those exact same games but with actual fucking online components and peer to peer activities like Streetpass. There’s no other possible way to keep defending Wii U or Nintendo anymore so just stop. Platinum being a semi-permanent development partner for Nintendo would be a perfect match made in heaven. I can imagine the many projects that could come into fruition with their ideas and Nintendo’s guidance. Bayonetta 3, The Wonderful 102, a Murasame Castle successor, a GOOD action oriented Metroid title that isn’t Other M, and whatever excellent new IP they can come up with. It’s good to be a Platinum and Nintendo fan this generation.

Mario Pinball Land did have the right timing to spinoff Mario because Mario was well known and established over the world. Metroid is the under appreciated series that needs careful planning for its evolution and awareness. Other M and followed by Federation Force: Soccer Edition just spells an end to a once beloved franchise and one of the best sci-fi adventures ever conceived.

That’s exactly how the whole thing works, nobody minds Mario spin-offs because we know they come between regular Super Mario games, and it’s exactly the same reason nobody minded Metroid Prime Pinball, because it came out halfway through the Prime series, the problem with Federation Force is not that it is a spin-off, but that it is a spin-off coming after 5 years with no Metroid games, 8 after the last one that had a good reception and because there are absolutely no plans of making another one.

They didn’t plan on having Samus at all, adding Samus is a desperate last minute tactic for damage control, which didn’t work because people complaining that Samus is not in the game are being stupid since ideally she should have never had a personality and thus it really wouldn’t matter who the fuk you play as as long as you get the same gameplay; the real problem with FF is not who the playable character is, but the fact that a meager spin-off is not enough to please a fanbase that is coming from the biggest flop in the series and an 8 year drought.

What was terrible about Assault? I thought it was great, though a bit short, and the multiplayer was really fun.
Dinosaur Planet should have been a spin-off Star Fox game with Fox being imprisoned & Krystal being forced to save him. It’s time someone other than Mario is captured in their respective franchise & needing to be saved by a new hero. Anyway, I think way too many people don’t give Adventures the credit it deserves for just being what it was: a nice spin off title trying out a different gameplay style. Retro tried and succeeded to an extend but Nintendo fucked it up by giving Retro the bird and called Prime “non-canon”. And the first Metroid Prime did sell roughly 4-5 million globally while the U.S. sold 2 million alone and that’s when the GameCube was at its worst times. Metroid Prime sold more copies than any game in the series could ever dream to hit. The countries which are more likely like japan in term of games taste are france/spain/italy and germany

I’m not sure what the extent of his involvement was, but I remember reading somewhere that at first, he flat-out told the dev team that he saw no appeal to Splatoon and to change a number of things. He definitely had something to do with how it turned out.

Miyamoto wasn’t the reason splatoon had no voice chat, it was another dev. All he did was review the project that they had since that is his job.After that point he looks at development of it like he does with every game. He is credited in most games just for looking at the project
Actually, Hisashi Nogami (Splatoon’s producer) is the one to blame about Splatoon having no voice chat, as he thought voice chat would do more harm than good, and the only article I’ve read about Miyamoto being involved in Splatoon was when he said to Splatoon games that the game had no appeal, then they added the hiding, jumping, and shooting in the y-axis mechanics and thus making Splatoon’s gameplay what it is today.
But I do agree that StarFox Zero should have both local and online multiplayer, as it adds a lot of value to the game.
I hate to concede, but you may be right. And it’s sad because SF could have SPECTACULAR online play. Did you ever play Command’s online battles? They were the worst part of the game- one mode, almost no differences between stages, killing players didn’t give points- picking up the stars they left behind did, and if one player dropped out the whole match ended. I almost feel ashamed to have invested the time necessary to max out my ranking.

I wish it wasn’t- it’s like even Miyamoto has no faith in his own series and thinks all anyone wants to see is a million different ways to play SF64.
I wanted to see what happened next in the continuity, not have the franchise rebooted a second time.
I wanted to see Star Fox follow up on Assault’s story and gameplay that uses both free roaming dogfights/explorations and third person shooting along with online multiplayer with that live video chat feature from 64 3D.
Now imagine the Splatoon guys when Miyamoto told them “What is your purpose with this game? It is not appealing”.
At that point of development the idea was even that fleshed out, it pushed them to make something bigger and better then what they had.
