Ubisoft CEO: “We Learned From The Mistakes We Made With Watch Dogs”

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, has reassured gamers that the company has learned from the mistakes they made with Watch Dogs. No doubt if you were on image boards and internet forums then you will be aware of the visual downgrade the game received at launch, compared to the debut footage we were shown at E3. The game looked nothing like the one that was showcased at E3 2012 and Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, says this is something that will never happen again.

With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines. When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.”

    >>>That’s why Assassin’s Creed Unity was just as bad, damage control detected>>>

  2. How about you don’t focus on graphics so much and make a decent, full of content game? Because Watch Dogs was nothing more than a cloud of hype.

          1. Learn how to use google. And no wonder, when you might as well be the only competitor in the genre. Doesn’t mean the recent GTAs are good games, though.

            1. What’s wrong with GTA? Personally, I thought GTA V was amazing and it’s one of my favorite games.

              1. Personally, I find them souless and without substance, but I never implied there’s something wrong with them. I’m just saying, people act like the first sandbox game when we’ve had sandbox games since the Atati gens.

    1. Then it won’t sell. What do you think Nintendo has focused on this generation? Aaaaand it didn’t sell. “Gamers” want realistic graphics, not good gameplay.

  3. i hear the shops are having a sale on toilet paper wich is good cus ubisoft are gonna need alot of it to clean all this bullshit thay just spouted >_>

  4. Played watchdogs a couple weeks back. It has some good gameplay elements and the graphics are okay, But the open world feels empty and dull, the characters have little development and the story is shallow and cliche. Thankfully i got it for $14, certainly not worth $60. I would have been pissed if i got this at launch for $60. Watchdogs 2 better have a new character, Aiden is boring and lacks any likeable features.

    1. I don’t see how the game could have sold good enough for there to even BE a Watchdogs 2?

      1. The hype wave for the first one was so big they think they can still ride it if they promise “Watch Dogs 2: Everything the First One Should Have Been!”.

      2. Nah… Watch Dogs definitely sold well enough. I think most of those sales were from hype though…

      3. Its actually sold rather well apparently. I dont think it deserved those sales though.. The game was essentially false advertisement to people who first saw the game at e3 2012. The only reason this game did well was the good marketing and hype.

        1. Omg! Are you guys talking about the consoles or the game? Lol “gamers” are such idiots nowadays. I can’t believe anyone would buy a multi platform game day one anymore. They’re all such trash it’s painful. Gaming is over after the wii u is done.

  5. I personally always thought that Watchdogs looked incredibly boring. An insult to the Assassin’s Creed series.

  6. Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot is A FUCKING LIAR, don’t believe ANY shit that comes out of his mouth.

  7. I don’t quite believe you just yet, Ubisoft. I’m still going to avoid buying your games day one just to be sure.

  8. You’ve been a gaming company how long, and you’re honestly just now figuring this out? What the fuck were you guys doing before? Who are these idiots they hire then? Can I have their jobs please?

So they’re saying before, they apparently just made games without even testing them, and this was somehow okay? And no one at your studio thought “Hey, maybe we should test this first?”

      >>>And then they call the empire to be stubborn, at least they learn a few things here and there even if sometimes it’s a bit later than its supposed to, but at least we test our games 100 times before release>>>

  9. Lemme get this straight: WATCH_DOGS finally taught them how to properly run a business? & the major lesson was that you can only dupe customers for so longer before they get wise?

I could’ve sworn they knew how to properly run a business before. Buck Bumble, any pre-8th gen Rayman, Batman Vengeance, the Prince of Persia trilogy, PoP: The Fallen King, Shadow Wars, Child of Light…even both Red Steels. Same goes for games simply published by Ubisoft like both No More Heroes & Tenchu: SA.

Oh but WATCH_DOGS finally taught them how to be a proper business, & what a game should be from doing it wrong. Proove it. Release more polished, “AA” games filled w/ content as you successfully did before. Tch!: “…if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.” No shit. Business 101. 8th gen, huh? 29 yrs. in the biz, Ubisoft…smh.

      >>>Whoever still buys their garbage should be terminated on sight, it’s disgusting>>>

  10. I guess one of said mistakes was porting it to the Wii U, hopefully they learned their lesson and Watch Dogs 2 will skip Nintendo.

    1. For them it’s better to skip the system than try to release it 6-8 months later than on other platforms.

  11. I’ve accidentally read this this three times, now I’m covered in shit! DAMN YOU GUILLEMOT!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

  12. Same bullsh*t story he gives all the time with every game that is not fully fledged out with the Triple A’s

  14. Watch Dogs is a good game but there are areas of the gameplay that needed work, but overall I enjoyed the Wii U version but the limits on the game werent from Ubisoft but from the Nintendo console, but still a fun game

  15. Anyone remember when Ubisoft was a great dev that cared for the gamers and not their wallet? I do and that was a long time ago

    1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

Apparently they went stupid really quick as they were doing just fine during the last gen with the Wii/PS3/XB360/PC.

  16. What a shitty fucking game, never got into the hype as all the game-addictive sheeples around. Connect with everything, yeah right, connect with quality next time!

  17. Pingback: Ubisoft ha imparato dall'errore fatto con Watch Dogs, niente più downgrade grafici?

  18. This is coming from The same CEO who distrust pc gamers because he believes all pc gamers are thieves whom are trying to pirate his shitty games. After assassins creed 2 every major AAA Ubisoft game have been shit and he knew it.

  19. to be fair to ubisoft, they had a lot of pressure from MS and sony. to make the game less stunning on PC. It well known facts that watch dog on PC has some graphical option disabled to make PS3 and xbox360 look good. There is a tutorial somewhere to enable those options. I think the solution is more about business than creative and innovation. In short what yves say is: we will make sure we don’t make a very good PC version so that PS4 and XB1 could shine.

  20. And here I thought the mistake they were acknowledging was them deciding to release the Wii U version half a year later than every other version and wondering why it didn’t sell as well as the others.

Not that this wasn’t a mistake as well, but it wasn’t what I expected. Still, we’ll know if they actually learned anything when their next few games come out.

    1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

I too was hoping this would be the mistake they were talking about. This is yet another slap in the face to Nintendo, to be honest, since they completely ignored that glaring mistake with Watch_Dogs.

  21. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

Ubisoft, Capcom, Nintendo, EA, & any other company that either tries to control, trick, or outright ignore their overall fanbase should suffer a huge hit to their fucking bank account. We’ll see how fast they go back to doing what a business is supposed to be doing: bowing at OUR feet! Respect & loyalty is earned, motherfuckers, & you all have a long way to go before earning it back!
