The DeNA And Nintendo Mobile Deal Will Include 5 Games In 5 Different Genres By 2017

Following on from the news that DeNA CEO points to the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile title as a strong IP tied to a game to create massive sales, CEO of DeNA West, Shintaro Asako, says the five Nintendo mobile titles which will be produced and released between the end of the year to 2017 will each take on a different genre. Asako says that is what the two teams have decided due to them wanting to attract as many people as possible to download them.

The five games will each be in a completely different genre. “We want to make sure out of those five IP that we can end up attracting hundreds of millions of people,” said Asako.

Asako says the deal with Nintendo is “the most crucial partnership” the company has ever done, and that’s despite working with licenses like Transformers, Disney, and Marvel. But it’s also a challenge, as “people are expecting a lot”.

  1. I think this could be very good for some of their most simple IPs, like Rhythm Heaven or Nintendogs. Those games could fit pretty well in a phone.

    1. I want them to make a game similar to “one piece treasure cruise” but with the style of smash brother

  2. “We want to attract hundreds of millions of players”

A little ambitious don’t ya think? They should be trying to attract “millions” first. Then maybe they could shoot for “tens of millions” later. But nope, “hundreds of millions” right off the bat..lol

    1. It’s a mobile market, there literally are hundreds of millions of potential players. If they choose to make the right kind of games. Yes they are obviously going to have to dumb them down a lot since they’ll require full touch control. Even more so than many early DS games.

    1. Simple, they wanted in on the mobile market,so they partnered up with someone who is already in that market

  3. What? Must I be the one to say it? The next installment of metroid prime will be a mobile game.

Federation Force 2, but fear not! It will get an HD Port to the mobile/handheld friendly NX.

  4. By end of 2017. Sorry. How long does it take to develop 5 mobile games ??? Absolute Muppets. Really missing out on next year’s opportunity

    1. I think the whole point of the 5 mobile game limit is that they don’t want to flood the market with less polished games (for mobile, that is) like Sega is doing and instead release a few quality titles that won’t be lost in a sea of Nintendo waste (a la Sega). That way each game will attract more attention individually.

  5. This could be interesting. Nintendo has had a rough go this generation. Hopefully they learn and grow as a company. My hopes have not been crushed yet.

  6. I did like DeNA and Nintendo’s partnership until DeNA mentioned Kim Kardashian. I have a rule that if you mention Kim Kardashian in a positive light, I will side eye you. Like I seriously can’t. That game didn’t do well because it was a strong IP. It did well because of dumbass Kardashian fans. My sister got the game and she said it sucked. Kind of like how Kim started her career.

  7. GUYS!! WarioWare on mobile!! The idea just crossed my mind and I am in love with it! There’s absolutely no reason why they couldn’t do it and it is the kind of game to catter to the short attention span public of today. It would be amazing!!!!
