Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo Of America President, Comments On Iwata’s Death

Today has been a mournful day for the internet — between Nintendo’s voluntary social media blackout and the avalanche of tributes to honor Satoru Iwata, there is no doubt he will be warmly remembered. While Shigeru Miyamoto had previously released a statement, Reggie Fils-Aime (president and COO at Nintendo of America) issued one of his own, addressing Iwata’s legacy, personality, and the future of Nintendo:

Mr. Iwata is gone, but it will be years before his impact on both Nintendo and the full video game industry will be fully appreciated. He was a strong leader for our company, and his attributes were clear to most everyone: Intelligence, creativity, curiosity and sense of humor. But for those of us fortunate enough to work closely with him, what will be remembered most were his mentorship and, especially, his friendship. He was a wonderful man. He always challenged us to push forward…to try the new…to upset paradigms—and most of all, to engage, excite and endear our fans. That work will continue uninterrupted.

      1. No it would be an amazing momentum, and a great honor to have an Easter egg as like a hidden drawing of Iwata somewhere in Zelda U it sounds like a great idea.

        1. Or maybe even something bigger, it would really commemorate his death, in the same way as playing smash with his mii is honoring. Imcondalti please make a post about this petition, it’s just as news worthy as the Mii thing.

      2. Gather attention!? I thought we were all in this gathering together, it was never about attention (except given to Iwata of course)

      3. If the Ratchet and Clank crew did it for another important member of the team that died, then why can’t Nintendo do the same for Iwata?

      1. No, people just went nuts and started saying extremely rude and gross things about the man, and to his daughter. The internet is no place to call for petitions and crap. While it would be amazing to see him live on through a video game, I dont find it necessary. If anything make a playable character made after and for him in a Kirby game.

        1. No. I demand a Zelda character to be named Robin & be the comic relief! Maybe Link can have a sidekick, like Navi or Midna, that is actually a robin named Robin!

    1. The blatant ignorance. You all did that with robin williams dont. Just dont no one has time but u ignorant….you know what. I can tell the true fans from the wannabe just stop. We all have allot on our plate. And here you are still trying to force your views….just stop.

  1. I cry over few celebrity deaths. Robin Williams was the first in a while, but I wasn’t expecting to cry over Iwata too, mainly because no one saw this coming. Rest in peace, Iwata.

      1. We may have conflicting definitions, but wishing death upon someone while they are mourning the loss of a friend and colleague is generally considered poor taste.

    1. I’ll try my best to do the same, too. Hopefully Nintendo won’t do anything news related that will just push my buttons. But I can’t promise anything as I do have a bit of a temper.

    1. Modern as in what Sony and Microsoft are doing? Paying to play online, paying devs for bs etc? I’d rather stay stuck in the past. I want nothing to do wi0h that pos community.

      1. Yes, this would be a good thing. Nintendo, once again needs strong change in both image and practices.

    1. It is good to cry? Yesterday at night i was seeing all this Iwata photo’s and everywhere there was the news about it… that my eyes were like an anime when they began to cry…
The thing is that i wanted to meet him someday, the same with Miyamoto, i wanted to keep seeing Iwata in Nintendo’s Direct doing something that make us laugh… but now.. it’s like… just thinking about it… Empty videos, videos without him, you know..
      :'(

  2. Nintendo is My Blood Reborn

The offices must be in disarray.

The head Honchkrow has been met with a terrible fate and is riding the SS Dolphin to the great heavens above.
It’s clear that although many disagreed with Satoru’s at times flawed business decisions, he was an extremely respected man in the industry.

  3. Iwata and Reggie always seemed very, very close. Ever since Reggie joined the company, it was apparent that Iwata and Reggie were more than just business associates. They were friends. I feel extremely sorry for Iwata San’s family.

      >>>Hypocrite, you bash me for “pretending” and yet you use some slogan to show your “mourning”>>>

      1. I only “bashed” you for pretending to be an inhuman robot even in the face of the human mortality that you yourself will someday face. when that day comes, do you really want your only legacy on this earth to be some badly written roleplaying messages on an insignificant website somewhere, remembered only by people who’ll think of you whenever they need a good laugh and a point of comparison for their own perceived sanity?

So few of us are ever going to achieve anything particularly significant or memorable, so all that really matters is what we pass on to the generations that will be. For the majority, the only thing that can be done is to ensure we’re fondly remembered, and pass on valuable life lessons. But hey, a guy can come a pretty long way simply by not being a hateful douchebag, too.

I am not your enemy. You are.

          >>>This is about Lord Iwata, why you even mention my own “death” and my legacy has no relevance on this matter at all>>>

          >>>And perhaps you people should learn that not all react the same as you do in the face of death>>>

  4. Rip to a great legend who made a huge impact for Nintendo. A legend who had honored, creativity, and most importantly passion for what he did. He’ll be missed by many of his friends, family, and gamers in general. Thank you for making our childhood fun and enjoyable may you rest in peace.

  5. *sigh* I really wanted this to be some sick prank from some little troll that’s good with faking an official document. Sadly, all this mourning from Nintendo itself as well as Sony, Microsoft, & video game fans the world over has removed all doubt from my mind. Now the only thing left to do is grieve & mourn his passing… and crush the scum that dare make fun of or enjoy the death of Iwata!

      1. How about you shut the fuck up if you don’t have anything to contribute to my comment ya fuckin retarded ass bastard child drink shit straight from the source for all I care

      2. And now you see that you wasted your time on that loser. The only thing he knows is how to be an asshole. He’s one of THOSE internet people.

        1. I already acknowledged his death and I’m thinking forward just like if a family member died I still have to live and do what I have to or want to do with the rest of my life you dumbfuck keep being retarded and eating shit ya bastard ass child with yo bitch punk ass ya whiny bitch
