We never received the Nintendo TVii service here in Europe, but I know a few of you in the United States who use the handy service. It may come as a slight blow to find out that Nintendo is pulling the plug on the service on August 11th. Clearly the service wasn’t used by as many people as the company originally anticipated as you may remember it was used as one of the big selling points of the Wii U during the launch period. Anyway, it will now soon be gone, so best to bid it farewell.
After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT. At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community. We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service. We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities.

I don’t think I ever even used this. Actually… what the heck is it? I don’t even know.
It helps with TV scheduling, it lists all your local channels, and if you watched sports it gave local scores and with the Mii verse you could chat about teams.
It is/was pretty cool, but not as good when it started, but if you are on the Wii U for games only, then it has nothing for you.
FYI Crunchyroll (Anime Service) no longer needs a membership to use it, if you don’t have one it just play commercials.
I’d maybe use it more if I knew what it was. It seems like just a miiverse for TV I guess?
TV and Sports, its basically what Microsoft promoted the Xbox One around (originally).

I like his idea since Nintendo is killing the social aspect of Miiverse, after all. Which is sad because I recall that being one of the biggest things Nintendo was using to promote the feature.

I want to say don’t bother. Azaria is probably one of the people that think Miiverse’s redesign is a good thing.

It was really not a very good app. I can recall having to press the on screen buttons several times before it registered, versus the remote that comes from my cable provider that does it much faster and more streamlined.
Good, it’s been clogging up icon space on my gamepad for at least three years now.
Who here actually used this? I never did, I don’t even know what it’s for.

I personally never used this feature but it’s sad nonetheless. I say this because just like the wiiu in general this app never reached its full potential. The concept was great I just wish nintendo would fully commit. It’s execution was half assed and the hardware wasn’t designed with this idea in mind. Seems like it was tacked on.
I agree with it not getting to its full potential and some of the execution could have been better, but it never felt tacked on to me.
Still using it for the over air guide (don’t have cable).
what will the TVii button do now? Remind me of a service that doesnt exist? just curious what we’ll use it for?
It will be gone like the European version and possibly the Japanese version.
The same thing it does now. When you click the TV button a TV control overlay will popup allowing you to control your TV/Cable box with your Gamepad. Thanks to the Gamepad’s screen it works without your TV already displaying your Wii U’s input. So you can hit the button to change inputs on your TV, adjust the volume, or change the channel. The guide functionality will be going away.
Oh the TV button, actually you can get limited guide information depending on your TV. When you first turn the station press A and you can get program information, if you want to scroll threw the channel information you the controller cross.

I never one time used this, or even cared about it. Even before the Wii U released, I had no interest. Since I never watch tv.
Good riddance. Another wasted feature that no one gives a shit about. IDK WTF it’s suppose to be. A TV streamer, universal remote or a fucking guide.
The app had potential that was never fully utilized. And like Miiverse, Nintendo fucking ruined it with horrible updates. I stopped using it when our comments in the TVii app were no longer getting put up on the Nintendo TVii Community in Miiverse, electing to use the community itself to talk about the TV shows I watched. The Nintendo TVii Community has been the unofficial WWE Community for over a year or two for me & a few other WWE fans that still watch it & the unofficial Toonami Community for those that actually stayed up to watch Toonami late at night on Saturdays/Sundays.
You will be missed, Nintendo TVii Community. You have been dying a slow death ever since the Wii U released so you can finally rest in peace. Good bye…
It never really took off cos it wasn’t what people thought it was. You couldn’t actually watch anything on it, you just posted comments about episodes and saw other peoples’ comments. It was kind of useless.
