We have learned today that Super Mario Maker will have 99 amiibo costumes as unlockable content. The news was revealed on the official Super Mario Maker Japanese website. Fear not, if you don’t have the amiibo you can still unlock the costumes if you complete the 100 Mario Challenge. The game will take up 1.4GB and you will be able to use the Wii Remote, Classic Controller (Pro), Pro Controller with the game. Super Mario Maker launches on the Wii U this September.

I would love 3D models, but I’m not sure. 100 new sprites just in SMB style might now be the hugest amount of work, but doing them again in the SMB3 and SMW art styles like it would take a bit of time, and then modelling them all in NSMB style too seems like it would take a lot of effort. Maybe most of the 100 are just palette swaps or something else easy?

Honestly I’m getting pretty sick of amiibos -_- why do the have to be the focus of do many games Nintendo makes?
I don’t like the idea that all amiibo costumes are unlocked in just one mode. I’m sick of unlockables not being a challenge. Just like in Smash Bros. I want the unlockables to feel rewarding. Not just get unlocked because I got through an easy game mode.
And why are they called “amiibo costumes” if you don’t use amiibos to unlock them?
At least we got an option to unlock the costumes and whatnot without having to hunt down for the impossible to find amiibos. :/ I’m okay with this if you ask me. This helps for people who don’t have the budget to buy every amiibo that this game supports or having to dig through just to find those hard to find amiibos.
