Play Asia Says The Nintendo 3DS NFC Amiibo Reader Is Region Locked

https://instagram.com/p/5wXx4FQ1KZ/

Bad news for those of you who were considering importing the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer as PlayAsia has confirmed that the accessory is region locked. This means that the device will not work with your European or North American Nintendo 3DS consoles. The retailer is also warning people that the Animal Crossing Cards may be region-locked as well.

    1. Probably coding in the OS and different broadcasting standards between regions, is my guess that one or both things are blocking it. Not the greatest thing since Amiibos aren’t region locked.

      1. I don’t think it’s the different broadcasting standards.
I imported a Japanese 3DS LL Circle Pad Pro for my American XL and it works perfectly fine, and those run off of the same technology that these use.

        1. I found out from a newer article, it turns out its not even true.

Also the circle pad is directly inputed into the machine, I was talking about radio wave standards and frequency being someone different between regions (i.e. certain bandwidths being taken up by TV broadcast, Wifi or phones.). But either way the point and guesses are completely off (I am more talking about myself).

          1. The circle pad pro doesn’t actually connect to the system at all except for with rubber stoppers.
It runs with the same technology, the infrared thing on the back

  1. That’s so stupid. Why does Nintendo have to make such stupid decisions? Oh wait, it’s Nintendo; they’re full of it.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>They need to fire that incompetent western marketing team and replace them with me>>>

      1. Even if Iwata did have something to do with this, leave the man alone. He’s dead now. Show some respect, loser. There are worse people out there than him… like you.

        1. Troll or just being a fool? Because last I checked, you didn’t have anything informative to say and in case some other idiots can miraculously read this and says otherwise, I don’t wanna hear it. You’re all hypocrite when third parties do what Nintendo is repeating from them and living in your stupidest illusioned world where Nintendo’s fuck ups and nonsense are perfect for gaming.

        1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

          >>>You are beginning to become a significant player in this base, I’ll wait and observe more from your work>>>

    2. It was confirmed that play asia is wrong about the region locking, we need to all stop using this and most other site for news because they all jump the gun.

  2. That’s dumb, as far as i know the amiibos aren’t region locked, so there’s no reason to make the NFC reader region locked.

  3. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Why do people even care? It’s not as if it’s gong to sell more than 100 units worldwide anyway>>>

      1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

        >>>Exactly my point, why do people care about these toys?>>>

        >>>I never liked Amiibo nor do I have any of them nor do I ever plan on getting one either>>>

        1. Looks like people aren’t too far off of saying Nintendo is becoming like Fisherprice..because they are seemingly phasing out of gaming due to being so retarded to not realize that they’re their own cause of the problem..that and Microsoft monopolizing and corrupting the gaming industry.

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>Mark my words, although I don’t think they’ll stop with Amiibos or mobile anytime soon or ever, they will realise just what their fault lies in>>>

            >>>I just want to know who their incompetent western scientists are, they do absolutely no good for the empire here in the western territories since the Wii>>>

            1. Or they won’t & will continue this downward spiral til the only thing Nintendo will have left is their money in the bank while their fans have all but left… except for the really stupid ones. Nintendo needs to stop listening to the few (the ones that defend them even when Nintendo is clearly in the wrong) & listen to the many (the ones, like us, that don’t tolerate it when enough is enough.)

              1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                >>>The only way to do so is to engage themselves more on the negative aspects of the fanbase regarding them, youtube is a good place to start but they seem to focus mostly on the civilian channels that praise them all the time>>>

                >>>But at the same time, the hypocrites accusing them will flip-flop if they ever get contacted by the empire and act as if nothing is wrong and praise them despite having the thoughts of the exact opposite, this is another reason to the worthless cattle I despise so much>>>

                1. Good question. I have to say everyone little fanboy that responds to my posts when I express my opinion that some of Nintendo’s decisions are fucking stupid.

Random Angry Fanboy: “Oh you can’t do that!”
Me: “Shut the fuck up, corporate sheep! I’ll dislike what I want & talk shit about it when I want so deal with it!”

    1. In the hardware no, but its exists in the software pretty much everywhere you go, from Google Play Store being coded to the country of your phone, iTunes not letting you get certain songs in certain regions, Sony Vita being tied to the region of your account, even TV programs on the Web like ABC television doesn’t work in all countries for instance you can’t watch i.e. try sending an episode link for “Lost” to someone in Taiwan.

  4. What’s the point of making this thing region locked when the Amiibo aren’t? Is Nintendo just trying to piss us off? Because it’s working. I don’t even understand why there’s about a three month wait between the Japanese and worldwide releases for such a tiny little device.

    1. Simply put manufacturing, its cheaper to makes runs of something all at once, and since they are different they would have to run them separately.

I am guess, but I don’t think this is something they will constantly be manufacturing all the time cause is a niche item.

  5. Like… really? Are the American people (Who seem to be your biggest consumers) last in service for everything?
Let’s march with Squidward and go on strike. :D

  6. And btw, it was Play-Asia/getamiibo who said that it is region-locked, not Nintendo. Unless officially stated by Nintendo, I wouldn’t easily believe statements from third-party entities.

  7. its not region locked . we have it already here in the philippines, and tested it with our nintendo 3ds imported from USA.its perfectly working

      1. Nintendo? Trolling us? Oh god! It’s happened! Sakurai is in charge as the new CEO! OH THE HORROR!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
