Nintendo Has Registered Achievement Sharing With Recording Patent

nintendos_achievement_record_patent

Nintendo has registered yet another patent for use either with the Wii U, or more likely the forthcoming NX. The patent enables users to record the joyful moments before they receive an achievement and then share the footage with other users and attach a message to a social network like Miiverse. Achievements aren’t available on the Wii U, but those of you with a Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4, will realise just how handy this could be. It’s nothing more than a patent at present but it would be a more than welcome function for the NX.

      1. Yea for the patent. But that means little. The patent is something that is just for the basic idea. This should be something already done in miivers. It well be cool to see in a update for Wii U/3DS. As well as the NX platform.

    1. I don’t understand. Nintendrones’ favorite trash-talk line is “they just copied that from Nintendo, they are so unoriginal.” Why aren’t they saying that about NX and its voicechat, platform integration, achievement system, cloud-based accounts, etc? It has been done before Nintendo did it ;)

  1. FINALLY!
I have been wishing for this for Nintendo ever since microsoft came up with it.

Please Nintendo make it for the NX and the next handheld console.

    1. Microsoft didn’t come up with shit. Achievements has always been around for offline viewing in older retro games and they’re actually used to unlock special content once completed. Nowadays, it’s just a lame ass “do-to list” system that grants nothing in return.

      1. Least Xenoblade Chronicles did the achievement system right & had you actually get something for accomplishing them. But it also did it wrong as the rewards was experience points that made the next area you went to be a breeze unless you wore the weakest armor & weapons in the game.

      2. Microsoft did invent achievements, dumbass. Those retro achievement sites popped up way after the 360 launched. Remove that Wii Mote from your ass. It’s shoved so far up there that it’s affecting your cognitive abilities.

            1. Fuck off. Achievement system was invented by Microsoft. I don’t care what the article says. You’re referring to secrets or unlockabkes. But achievement belongs to Xbox.

              You really are a tool

          1. It says right in the article: “Although many other individual games would develop their own “secret bonuses” and internal achievements, the implementation of an easily accessible and multi-game achievement system is widely considered to be Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Gamerscore system, introduced in 2005. ”

Maybe learn to read something before you use it to spout more shit?

        1. That patent does not mean it is for the NX. Companies have many patents that end up not making it to market. People just speculating. The answer will not be know until Nintendo decides to speak on it in 2016.

      1. Nintnedo has never confirmed this. What NX is, how it most likely stands now, is a family of devices. This includes home consoles, handhelds and other apparatuses that run on similar architecture and OS

  2. FUK YOU NINTENDO IS FOR CRY BABIES THIS ACHIEVEMENTS ARE FOR TRUE HARD-CORE GAMERS NO FOR A CRY BABIES NINTENDOH

      1. Better is a too big word… let’s say “really good games” because when I left Nintendo and switched to Playstation; it was because Nintendo almost stopped making good games (that was after the Wii).

If the NX is worth it, I’ll buy it

    1. Gear Games Interactive

Oh, I hear a sad 12-year old who got his bottom smacked by his mommy again.
Did she uses the belt on you this time?

          1. He has a point. Trolls feed on attention. Once they realize no one cares, they just up and go. It’s best not to feed them.

  3. If this is what it sounds like and is for NX than this is probably the first bit of news to come out about NX that makes me excited to hear more about the console. I’d love a feature like this (if by achievement it means like the accolades you get on Xbox LIVE, PSN, Steam and just about every other gaming platform out there these days).

All that said the picture looks a lot like NES Remix’s UI and if the console turns out to be more like all the other rumors have suggested it will, then this news could just be a disappointment for me and anyone else hoping the NX will lean more towards core gamers and current online standards.

    1. An achievement system sucks if it doesn’t reward you with in-game items, though. Those achievement systems are just there for bragging rights for highly competitive gamers. I’m into the competitive scene but I’m not THAT into it.

      1. Buts thats the reason we love them, because they are just that. They might be meaningless digital awards, but the bragging rights behind them show us who took the time to 100% the game. I left out at level 20 last time I updated my PSN account, and have since unlocked more trophies online. I’m at about 5,000 GS but I was late to the Achievements because I played everything on my PS3. If this is indeed an achievement system then holy hell, I’m going to completely go cold turkey on my Trophies and Achievements. :D oh please let it be a trophy system.

        1. Well when an achievement system comes with a reward system, I’ll be right on board with it. Til then, I’m good.

          1. What if they tied that reward system with whatever is to replace Club Nintendo? Now that would be the ultimate goal.
Get an achievement in like lets say; Zelda NX, and your achievement some how adds points (or what ever form of currency) is on the rewards program.

        2. After I got to level 5, I quit trying to get lots of trophies. It was fun at first but it started to feel more like a chore. I just can’t do it anymore. Same for my Steam achievements. I got like 15 of them for one game I played today and I’m like “meh”. Lol.

          1. Exactly why I don’t really care too much for an achievement system. All that hard work just for some silly little digital trophy is not what I call fun. Now if I get an reward like digital money for the eShop, points toward a Club Nintendo like reward system, or in-game rewards like armor, money, or skill/stat points, then I’ll all for achievements. But I won’t be upset if Nintendo adds an achievement system, either, as it will just be yet another feature on a Nintendo console that I just won’t use.

          2. I’m not one of those selfish fanboys that screams “But I don’t want it nor do I care for it so you shouldn’t have it either!” types.

          3. Were you trying to platinum all your games? It does feel like a chore but once you get that first platinum and you hear that first ding, its so satisfying. Personally I only platinum the games I like, because some of those trophies are quite stupid. I forget which game makes you pass the whole game in all 3 settings, to get a trophy each time, I find that stupid as hell.

      2. While I definitely prefer in game items/rewards alongside achievements (Nintendo could do SO MUCH with that idea!) I still love achievements regardless because developers can use them in such clever ways. Little challenges that would be crazy to include as something all players HAVE to do to beat the game can be included as a little achievement challenge. If you’re up to the challenge you can complete it and then your account has visible proof that you did it so your friends can see. Not for being a total braggart but back in school days friends would ask each other about video game progress and rather you did it or not there was always a lot of disbelief and lying going on. Achievements are visual proof, and if you’ve put that much time into something- proof that you did so doesn’t hurt anything. A lot of times when you 100% a game that’s doing all objectives including side ones but often times developers who spent an insane amount of hours building that game will find some random reachable locations and/or challenges that you may never really think to do or even question if or not it was possible without seeing that achievement which can encourage you to try and do it. Or they can just be used for a little comedic effect. I find often times when developers use achievements the right way I get so much more out of the game trying to beat it and collect all the achievements/trophies than I do just finishing a campaign.

Still though, I would def. love in-game rewards & bonuses though with my achievements. That would entice me to purchase most multi-platform games with the same achievements on NX or whatever platform had the rewards, instead of my other current-gen platforms.

        1. I’m not against an achievement system by any means even though some of my comments on the subject make it seem that way. If people like them, I’m all for supporting them verbally or with text, like I’m doing with the voice chat subject, but I still want something more because I was never really into bragging rights. I guess you could say I’m a prize fighter but without the fighter part. lol

      1. Gear Games Interactive

Sounds like someone is getting the belt again.
Maybe, just maybe, mommy won’t smack you so hard this time if you just remain still and maybe tell her you’ll go find a job. Besides, you 40-year olds get it rough.

    1. But when heard about not being par or better than PS4 specs-wise with no physical media AND doing the whole “innovation via Wii/Wii U” BS again, I fear it’s the end of the line.

      1. First off the patent doesn’t say that the NX will not be having physical media. If you go back and do your research you will see that there’s an SD card slot in place of where the optical disc drive usually is meaning that the NX could very well be SD card software based. And as far as the NX being less on par with the PS4 and Xbox One power wise goes, there’s no proof of that whatsoever only rumored ” he said, she said ” bullshit but of course you will let your hate for Nintendo lead you into believing otherwise

    1. Gear Games Interactive

Interesting, maybe a possibility to chat with people on different devices.
NX is starting to sound more like the name for a family of systems so it could b possible that with the NX portable version of the same game, you can chat with people on the home console version of the game.

      1. Well that is clever but it’s happening at least. Could be worse, this console could have less features then even the Wii U

  4. well if it please the mass, never be fan of achievement. most of them are really stupid. i.e. get all the icons…. or press the start button for the first time…. don’t loose a continue and don’t fart during the last stage while you holding your breath…. How yeah, make sure you complete this stage which is only available if you buy the supa dupa DLC which cost £10000000000,

    1. Gear Games Interactive

Doubt Nintendo will do that, the DLC part that is.
They’ve been doing better with the DLC than most companies now days

      1. Nintendo was doing good with DLC til Smash 4 started getting DLC after the inital DLC. The bundles don’t even give you any savings as the bundle is the prices of everything separately put together. And then there is Splatoon with it’s less evil brother of free DLC that’s on-disc locked content being held back to manufacture false hype, momentum, & length of a game that is hindered by a very small number of rotating stages to fight on & no personal match customization, forcing everyone to fight for 2-3 minutes which ruins the momentum of fun battles for some competitive gamers.

        1. It wasn’t really Nintendo who set those prices for the additional Smash DLC it was Sakurai and his company Sora who’s responsible because look how Nintendo did the Mario Kart 8 DLC and Splatoon’s.

          1. Nintendo owns them, they did it under Nintendo’s watch, so therefore Nintendo is just as much to blame as Sakurai & his team. Just because they weren’t THE problem doesn’t change the fact they were PART of the problem.

      1. Exactly. They’re nothing like old school achievements that unlocks some secret and good final content for your hard work on a game. They’re just there for no one to care about and earns players nothing.

    2. Achievements will never be used by my unless I just happen to do it. Never cared for it on any console but if people want I hope they enjoy it.

        1. What do you get for playing video games in general? Fucking nothing. What’s pointless to you is something meaningful to others. And the fact that it’s completely optional means there’s no reason to complain about it.

          1. If there was an actual reward system in place for these “pointless” achievements, then it would add “meaning” to it. Some games in the past that did have achievements way before fucking Xbox showed up (and screwed everything about gaming) did reward players for completing games and finding secrets.

So what’s your point about this whack ass achievement system “being meaningful” to someone else who clearly never played real challenging games before?

      1. Achievements that give you nothing for accomplishing them is just a way for a game to manufacture false replayability. Just like Splatoon & Super Mario Maker with on-disc locked content being held back by a time frame.

    1. I think it’s unfortunate you think that way about achievements, but each to their own, I suppose. I personally believe that the longer the time I spend on a game, the more justified does the purchase + the amount money I’ve spent on it feel. I don’t “hunt” trophies on every single game I play, but some of them do have really interesting and challenging ones I like going after – and by doing so, I’ve often ended up investing a lot of extra hours into a game I otherwise wouldn’t have put into said game. It’s fun and actually feels rewarding when you finally make it, especially when you manage to get the platinum trophy, imo.
You call it “showing people you have too much free time”, I call it “having some extra fun with a game”. I do it for myself, not others. Though, I definitely don’t judge people who do it to compete with others, or want to show that they’re good at video games. If it makes them feel good about themselves, great for them.
However, it’s also absolutely alright if you think they’re a waste of time, a feature can’t always be liked/actively utilized by everyone, after all.

      1. I wish I could enjoy achievements in the way some of you do. But I don’t want to put a ton of effort into something that results in just some feel good moment of accomplishment. I want something more for my investment like an in-game item or maybe some in-game gold to spend on needed armor or weapons. Maybe even skill points to make my characters stats or abilities stronger. So for people like me, achievements are useless & utterly pointless.

        1. I personally don’t feel like I need actual rewards I can use in some way to determine whether or not something is worth doing. Looking at it that way, we don’t get any rewards for playing and/or finishing games either, even though we put a lot of time and effort (+money) into them, but I still really enjoy games, and I’m sure you do too.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not trying to convince you that “your opinion is wrong” or anything like that, of course I do respect your view on the matter being different than mine, but that’s how I think about the things you mentioned.

      2. Or maybe even credit for games that I can download digitally or even for DLC. If Nintendo’s achievement system comes with one or all of these, I’ll gladly embrace it with open arms as I can use the achievements to get money taken off of the price of digital games or DLC in the eShop.

        1. Even though that sounds like a good idea for us consumers, it wouldn’t be too much of a good thing for Nintendo, as they’d just end up losing a lot of money. I don’t think that the chances of something like that happening are very high, neither on Nintendo’s platforms, nor on the competition’s.

          1. That’s why if they don’t like giving us digital money or Club Nintendo reward points for doing achievements, I’m fine with in-game stuff like gold, experience points, skill points for making your character’s arts stronger, stat points, etc. Basically stuff that you would normally get by way of micro-transactions in mobile games. But since Nintendo seems to be taking on the micro-transaction model, they’d probably prefer to nickel & dime us instead.

  5. 💃I'm a Boss Ass Bitch💯

Well fucking done. This NX news or whatever the hell this looks like. It’s seems that it’s going to have a bright fucking future ahead of it

  6. sherlockwillfightbilbo

Hey, Sickr. What’s your personal opinion of the recent patents, should they indeed be accurate representations of the NX?
I’ve been visiting MNN since before the Wii U released, so I’m curious what your perspective is about the NX (or rather, what we THINK is the NX), since you’re the one who’s been presenting console news all these years.

    1. I’m not sick but patents really don’t tell a whole lot. Patents are sometimes produced or made into products and sometimes never heard or seen from again. It doesn’t say anything about NX. Nintendo will let people know what the NX is at some point in 2016 as they have said. It doesn’t mean they will reveal it as they could just say the very little on it to still confuse people.

  7. Oh, God. Please no…

Why do people even want achievements? What good are they? They don’t add anything other than a pointless goal to waste time on…

      1. they don’t take anything away either. I don’t get why people on this site are hating on them so much. They can be like challenges in Smash 4 AND regular achievements in that they unlock in game bonuses and add to your overall achievement number.

        1. Smash 4 challenges are exactly how achievements now should be built and handled; ACTUAL REWARDING TO THE PLAYERS! Unlocking shit or best of all, act as a virtual currency system to earn free points to redeem DLCs, games, themes and such for their reward program and eShop.

          1. How dare you steal my idea!? *calls out my attorney* FALCON… SUE!!! lol This is a shot at the patent trolls, by the way, with their bogus sue cases.

    1. Because it gives players the opportunity to find something else to do within the game instead of just quitting and doing absolutely nothing/playing it all over again

      1. Aka manufacturing false replayability to manipulate people into thinking the game is longer than it really is. Like achievements that tell you to kill more than enough freaking enemies before getting to a certain point in a game.

  8. YOU SOCIAL MEDIA KIDYS GOING ON LIKE THIS IS EVEN IMPORTANT IT ISNT ITS A GENERIC INCLUSION

GAMING IS DEVOLVING INTO A SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITY, GAMING IS WHAT MATTERS NOT STREAMING A VIDEO

GAMING IS THE MECHAICS OF GAMEPLAY NOT DISPLAYING A MAKE BELIEVE TROPHY ON THE NET

THIS BEING INCLUDED IN NX OR ANY FUTURE UPDATE IS NOTHING MORE THA A GENERIC INCLUSION

IT DOES NOT EVOLVE GAMEPLAY-CONTROLS-PHYSICS OR ANYTHING ELSE,ITS JUST A EVOLVED FORM OF UP LOADING MK8 FOOTAGE TO YT

THE FCT YOUR REACTING LIKE THIS IS INNOVATION IS MIND BOGGLING

STREAMING A IDEO ISNT GAMING ITS SOCIAL MEDIA

I PLAY GAMES TO ENJOY GAMEPLAY NOT TO GO OH LOOK WORLD I HVE A PRETEND THROPHY UNLOCKED OG GOODIE GOODIE TWO SHOE’S

    YOUR BEYOND A JOKE.

THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT ITS GENERIC, ITS LIKE SAYING PS2 PLAYING DVDS MAKES PS2 A BETTER >>>>>>GAMING DEVICE<<<< THAN GAMECUBE

PLAYING A MOVIE IS NOT GAMING,NIETHER IS STREAMING A VIDEO OR SAYING OH LOOK MIIVERSE I HAVE A STICKER

IL NOW QOUT SEAN MALSTROM FROM SEN MALSTROM BLOG…..

“I’m also becoming more and more concerned how no one seems to talk about gameplay anymore. Gamers talk about themselves, stream themselves, talk about how they are awesome and how others aren’t, but the love of gaming is being replaced by love of ourselves. It’s like gaming is de-evolving into a type of social media.”
    .
    It has already happened.

    1. Oh my god I’m laughing so hard on the inside right now. You do have a point though. Gaming isn’t what it used to be for sure, but that’s not to say it’s bad. It’s different.

    1. it’s basically an epenis and besides it lets people laugh at you if you didn’t finish a game you said it’s marvelous on a message board

  9. Awesome. I guess it shouldn’t really be the case, but “achievements” really tend to bring out my A-game. You have no idea how rewarding it feels to get something you’ve worked hours on, even if it’s just a make-believe trophy on a bulletpoint list nobody’s ever gonna read. In the end, it tends to make me appreciate the subtleties of a game more. Metal Gear Solid 4 is proof of that.

Let’s hope they can add some sort of unique Nintendo spin on the thing, though.

  10. online achievements is most stupid game inovation for last 10 years. for this one thing i dont buy ps4! on mine ps3 i hate this function!! in game achievement in own game submenu is ok but achievement on console menu is stupid idea. mi belowed nintendo is on way to sony hell. where i found good old only singleplayer games??
now i only one hope. ebay and buy n64, gamecube and wii games :(.. nothing new is good.

    1. I’m sensing this is sarcasm. At least you can’t hoped to be taken seriously when your grammar is bad.

It doesn’t matter if you like achievements or not. I’m indifferent about them. But they should be there for the people that do like them. I’ve had multiple buddies stop buying Nintendo games and instead bought the PS/XB versions instead because they have achievements.

And judging by the lack of 3rd party support, it’s part of the reason why there isn’t any.

  11. Who cares? Nobody goes nuts over achievements once it’s earned and what’s that gonna do for the players? Show it off to a peanut gallery of “no one’s home” audience and that’s it.

    1. exactly WHO CARES it has nothing to do with gaming

its like saying NX has a toaster NONSENSE social media facebook kiddys and twitter morons NOW THINK SOCIAL MEDIA IS GAMING IT IS NOT

GAMING IS GAMING,EATING IS EATING,SHITTING IS SHITTING,FUCKING IS FUCKING

      1. Gamerscores differentiate casuals from experienced players. Achievements are intrinsically awarding when you accomplish something difficult and are recognized for it.

You’re right though, accomplishing difficult challenges and outperforming others has nothing to do with gaming. *cough* arcade high scores, speed runs, minimalist runs, different difficulties, pokechallenges *cough*

        Stupid fuck

  12. Now they need to stop chickening out of online voice interactions. It’s the way of the future. And yes there will be some creepy people throughout the interactions, but with good moderations and reporting features, it shouldn’t be a problem.

    1. Even just one pervert saying something gross or one racist saying slurs is too many for my kids. I hope Nintendo keeps their social interaction systems locked down tight.

      1. I guess you keep your children locked behind closed doors 24/7, huh? You can’t protect them from the world forever. Better they find out the true ugliness of the world now then later when it’s too late as a total stranger slits their throat because their parents were too fucking stupid to tell them not to follow a creepy stranger into a dark alley.

      2. I honestly believe parents like you are no better than parents that treat their kids like shit. You both can mess up a child’s development.

          1. I pissed off Daddy Long Dicktard with what I said to this guy. Whether they are the same person remains to be seen. Either way, I don’t give a fuck. These fanboys need to grow up & quit expecting the world to be this fucking fantasy land because it’s not. Nor will it ever be til the end of fucking days or Jesus comes or the entire universe dies due to time or whatever the fuck some of these people believe in is the truth of life/creation.

            1. You having a bad day or something? Calm the fuck down. I really hope you aren’t a parent considering all your comments on this site, raising children to be sociopaths and egotistical narcissists like you would be terrible :)

              1. Oh sorry. I didn’t realize keeping children in the closet was healthy for them. I’m so sorry I called people that do that out for being bad parents. Please forgive me! *snickers* Run a long & go back to raising your children up to be idiots. You’ll be burying them instead of the other way around. And egotistical narcissist? Thanks for your assumption from angry comments. I’m sure a person that gets pissed off that his daughter was raped & goes on a tirade about how rapists are pieces of shit that should be locked up is just an egotistical narcissist by your logic, eh?

                1. Wait, what? That’s not true. I can recall that I’ve heard people slowly descending into sociopaths when they’re stuck in prison for a long time. I think I saw it in a movie but I’m pretty sure it can happen in real life too.

                  1. Are you sure you just didn’t get sociopath mixed up with psychopath? There is actually a very big difference between the two.

                    1. Hm… I suppose so. I would look it up in a dictionary but I’m too lazy to do that right now. I’ll just take your word for it cause you’re usually right when it comes to this stuff anyway. Hahaha.

      3. you have a point its designed for fun interaction not NONSENSE

peadofile shit is just being paranoid

but the real reason is 99% of the chat etc is pointless stupidity better of without it

example i went on cod on my wiiu first time in like a year on voice chat there was the sa,e guy from a year ago (his always on cod wiiu) he sounds like homa simpson

he clearly has mentsl issues he plays constant suisidal indie music and old mario tunes and babbles endlessly about shit

then theres the kids CAMPER CAMPER CAMPER CAMPER CAMPER ENDLESSLY SAYING IT OVER AND OVER

its not needed its not reqiured it does nothing for GAMING

        1. Quit talking like your opinions are fact, dipshit. What you think does nothing for you does something for someone else. Grow up from your selfish little world & accept the fact people prefer different things to you Nintendo fanboys.

  13. xenoridley shut the hell up faggot, eat a dick and shove ur dads clit up ur dick faggot, you know nothing about raising kids Bitch, its because of faggots like you that gaming and the rest of the world is messed up.

    1. xD I struck a nerve, did I? Time to let your kids see the truth of the world before you damage them any further.

  14. THEY WERNT AROUND 15 YEARS AGO FUCKING BULL SHIT

I PLAYED GAMES 15 YEARS AGO IN EVERY SINGLE GAME I PLAYED I GOT THEM BY WINNING OR ATCHIVING SOMETHING

    EXAMPLE

A REWARD FOR COLLECTINF STARS OR COINS OR RINGS OR TRESURE EXAMPLE A 1UP OR A UNLOCK OR A REWARD FOR A HIGH SCORE

WHEN I WIN AT MARIO KART I GET A TROPHY AND A UNLOCK PRESTO A ACHIVMENT

THEY HAVE WLWAYS EXISTED YOU FUCKING MORONS

  15. its a generic inclusion isnt needed its just there ITS NOT A INNOVATION YOU FUCK TARD MS SONY FANBOYS

ITS LIKE SAYING A FSCENOOK NOTIFICATION IS A GAMING INNOVATION YOU RETARDED BASTARDS

  16. If you personally like them or not is besides the point. Achievements are one of the only things Microsoft can be credited for. They were a great idea and thus have become the industry standard. Nintendo needs to play catch up.

  17. I actually like achievements because it gives a sense of accomplishable goals that aren’t mandatory to complete the game, but add more stuff to do without actually changing the game (although, I’m not a fan of achievements that are gotten by things needed to beat a game anyway, since you didn’t really do anything special or out of your way to do it).

  18. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Achievements for little human children and that picture looks absolutely disgusting, Xbot culture at its “finest”>>>

  19. That guy is right about the wiiu with a big library of games most of these people on this site only care for shooters like cod halo

  20. If “Achievements” is anything like the Playstation’s trophies, then this really, truly IS a useless feature.
