Minecraft: Story Mode Is Apparently Coming To Wii U

It seems as though Wii U owners are finally getting a Minecraft game in the form of Minecraft: Story Mode. The developers behind the game, Telltale, told the Verge that the episodic game is headed to the platform. The sandbox title with the scripted narrative is expected to arrive at the end of the year and is gracing all current platforms including mobile.

Story Mode doesn’t have a specific release date just yet, but the first episode is expected to debut before the end of the year. And it’s coming to a huge range of platforms, including the Xbox One and 360, PS3, PS4, PC, Mac, Android, and iOS. Telltale has also revealed to The Verge that the game will be coming to the Wii U as well, marking the first time a Minecraft game launches on a Nintendo platform. One of the goals is to reach outside of the Minecraft fandom, and introduce new people to the franchise. But with an existing audience of 70 million, Telltale also knows that keeping them satisfied is the most important thing.

Thanks, King K. Rool for Smash

  1. So I guess that rumor was true that Nintendo had struck a deal with Mojang before the Microsoft buyout. Although I’m not really a huge Minecraft guy, I do know that it has a massive fanbase and that it’s definitely a great fit for Nintendo platforms so it should increase sales for the Wii U and a 3DS version shouldn’t be too far away

      1. I know but my point is that Mojang created and owned the Minecraft IP before the Microsoft buyout so they could’ve already had a deal in place with Telltale Games and Nintendo to put future Minecraft games on Nintendo platforms

      2. what deal? I never heard of any deal, and oba has a point, it is telltale, but it’s still the minecraft ip, I’d wanna see minecraft on wii u, not for steve in smash (personally he’d be a bad character) I dunno if I’m getting story mode.

      1. >>>Such irrelevant game when there are many other games in similar fashion with non 8 bit graphics and yet many still want to buy this crap>>>

      2. I find myself utterly just… confused at the concept of this. Like… Why if Telltale wanted another chose your own adventure visual novel… Why make it in the style of Minecraft? I suppose for those who have very few games on the Wii U and nothing of interest they see for the upcoming months, but I also feel if nothing being released in the upcoming months interests people on the Wii U, then this certainly would not interest them either so… Yeah I didn’t sleep nearly enough to figure this mess out.

      3. >>>There is no point with this game, specially on Nintendo platforms, this is basically an insult>>>

  2. You guys know this isn’t the actual Minecraft game right? It’s a episodic game made by Telltales who has also done The walking dead, the wolfs among us, and tales of borderlands…..

    1. I think some are but certainly not all of them. Major 3rd party publishers like EA, Ubisoft, and Bethesda have made it clear that they won’t be supporting Nintendo platforms unless of course it’s with cheaply developed casual games

      1. Which EA & Bethesda have little, if any at all, to release so those two are out of the question in making a Wii U game. Ubisoft, on the other hand, has a few under their name, so there will always be a Ubisoft game on the Wii U every year.

      1. Well there’s

Shovel Knight (indie) available now but a retail version is coming in October
Runbow (indie) is coming out this week

        Affordable Space Adventures (indie)
        OlliOlli (indie)
        Shantae And The Pirate’s Curse
        Stealth Inc. 2 (indie)
        Steamworld Dig (indie)
        Super Mario 3D World

And if you’re into racers there’s Mario Kart 8 and Fast Racing Neo is coming later this year

  3. This whole Minecraft/Xbox ownership thing ris really weird. I guess Microsoft didn’t buy the brand/IP for exclusivity rights.

    Very interesting.

  4. “..The developers behind the game, Telltale, told the Verge that the episodic game is headed to the platform…”
So developer, Telltale, created a game called “Telltale?”

Shouldn’t it be”..The developers behind the game, , told the Verge that the episodic game is headed to the platform…”

    Did I miss something?

  5. This doesn’t mean I get to spend hours mining and digging ridiculous holes into the ground until I reach something I can’t handle… alone, does it?
