Video: New Star Fox Zero Zoness & Gyro Wing Gameplay

The fine folk over at GameXplain have managed to go hands-on with the latest build of Star Fox Zero at a Nintendo preview event at PAX Prime. The footage isn’t the most riveting that I’ve ever seen, but it shows off the slow-paced Gyro Wing in the Zoness level in the latest Star Fox game. Judging from various comments on YouTube and forums it seems as though people are wondering why this particular level was one that Nintendo wished to demo. Anyway, Star Fox Zero launches in North America and Europe on November 20th.

  1. Looks good! Even though I’ve never really liked star fox, this game looks pretty good, even though I probably won’t get this one either :/

    1. Why wouldn’t you? It brings a different type of gameplay vs anything else, the closest thing to it is Splatoon. It varies from the rest of the series being strictly a rail shooter.

  2. After seeing StarWars BattleFront Rogue Squadron mode, this game looks awfully empty and slow. Its like Nintendo just decided to make half assed StarFox game just to make it look like theres games made for the system when theres not even 3rd party support. Hoping though that the game turns out the best in StarFox series but wont be surprised if its a let down for many.

    1. I’m afraid this game will turn out to be a huuuge let down for everyone.

We haven’t had a Star Fox entry for almost a decade, and then Nintendo pull out this lame game…

      1. Yeah, its like they dont even try anymore. They more than likely saw how low the amount of games coming to the system were and then decided to make a quick StarFox release with reused assets and stuff from that 3DS port they made, even got a 3rd party dev to faster development. They made this thing in a year, heck its even using an old Wii prototype as its core. This was quick work to just make WiiU line up have something for 2015 LOL

The worst part is that if this game gets negative press from critics and sells below million, then Nintendo will use that as an excuse to not work on StarFox on another decade. The problem is that this game wasnt almost not gonna get green light either, Miyamoto himself according to what i have readed from internet, had to convince higher ups at Nintendo to do this project because 3DS version of SF64 didnt sell enough. The only reason probably why they gave permission for this project the already said low amount of WiiU games and that it would be done with limited resources.

Again im really hoping this game is the most amazing ever in StarFox series, but the footage they have shown just speaks otherwise, sadly.

        1. Yeah, pretty much that. If Star Fox Zero fails, they will throw McCloud and others in a -80° C freezer and leave them inside for ages. That happened to F-Zero, Sin and Punishment, and Golden Sun.

When I heard that they used a Wii prototype to develop Zero, man… That confirmed Nintendo has gotten so lazy and reckless. That was such a wrong strategic decision.

Likewise, they used the 3D Land engine and whatnot to develop 3D World… That was facepalming.

I would rather play a decent, inspired Star Fox game in one or two years. But… Let’s see and check if there will be any saving grace on Zero.

    2. Are you actually comparing STAR WARS to STAR FOX? LMAO…..ARE U FUCKING SERIOUS?!!

Just because tgey both have the word “star” in the title doesn’t mean they’re to be compared. Lol

      1. Well it’s easy for those that actually played it to say they loved it while it’s easy for those of us that just watched a trailer thinks it looks boring… because it did look boring. Just Star Fox 64 reskinned into HD at the time of this year’s horrible Nintendo lineup at E3.

I haven’t played it so therefore I don’t care if God Himself said the game was fun. I’ll be the judge of that when I play it myself as a rental if Nintendo doesn’t have a demo available on the eShop.

          1. You kind of deserve some harsh comments after a lot of the things you’ve said on this site. All you ever do is complain and whine.

            1. You seem to be only a keyboard warrior and a stupid, blind fanboy, kid.

You’re not even able to list why this sh*tty game looks interesting for you.

                1. If he’s being a total douchebag to Rootgamer for no other reason than Rootgamer’s differing opinion, yes. Sentinel is being a blind fanboy. If it walks like a duck & talks like a duck & looks like a duck, it’s a damn duck.

                    1. Not really. I don’t classify you as a blind fanboy anymore. You’re just a gamer that doesn’t care about story or a game staying true to it’s standards as long as the gameplay is fun. But maybe Sentinel isn’t a blind fanboy. Maybe he’s just a douchebag that thinks his opinion is fact & everyone that is complaining has no reason to complain.

                      1. Then again, isn’t that one of the warning signs of fanboyism to think your opinion is fact & everyone else has no ground to stand on for complaining because they are going against what the fanboy truly believes is the Word of God?

                2. Awww is the middle ninbaby upset that people criticise nintendo? This is what you sound like “WAAAAAAHHHH STOP HURTING DADDY NINTENDO’S FEELINGS YOU’RE COMPLAINING TOO MUCH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH”

        1. That’s true, but I just wondered why this was a level that was demoed. Didn’t seem particularly exciting, but that just might be me :-)

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>No it isn’t, it looks incredibly boring, easy and uninspired, I really hope the final game is nowhere near that>>>

            1. Sorry to say this, but that IS the final game. It releases in a few months. The game is finished. They may be tweaking the visuals a little, but yea. What you see is what you will get.

              1. Actually, Nintendo has confirmed multiple times that these demos are very old. And it’s a demo so the difficulty is turned WAY down to be easy enough for even the most casual gamer. It should look much better, and be much harder in the final version.

                  1. Did they show irrefutable proof that those demos were old? Or are you going to take Nintendo’s word for it when their word isn’t worth a damn this gen with the lies they’ve told us.

      1. Nothing about this game interests me like at all. Nothing even the fact that platinum games is developing it. That should be even more of a let down after the games like metal gear solid revengeance and bayonetta 2 they have been making

          1. I have it as well. And it’s not way worse, not at all. To say the least, Lego Marvel Super Heroes is frantic and full of humor.

That Star Fox Zero footage was bland and boring. Hoping the rest of the game is more hectic than this stage, but when one markets their product, one shows the highlights of it. If that reasoning is being applied in this case… This game will be pretty forgetable.

            1. No it’s boring and low budget in every way. Easily the worst Lego game I’ve ever played and I’ve played A LOT! This level is kinda more slow and stealth based, but it’s far from boring and uninspired. Plus the rest of the game is action packed so I’m very ok with these stealth sections they put in.

              1. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with Marvel Super Heroes. Mine was amazing, though.

(I also may be played every Lego game that was out during the last decade, but I’m not 100% sure… Anyway.)

And I concur when you say it’s great to vary the pace of any game. But.. I don’t know. This game haven’t clicked me so far.

            2. This is just one of I think 4 or 5 stages they showed off. And Nintendo doesn’t usually show the best stages off, they like to keep those a surprise.

      2. I would have cancelled the game alltogether and started fresh on the NX with multiplayer online. But maybe im being too harsh. Sorry nintendo.

            1. Seriously! This game SHOULD have some kind of online multiplayer feature just damn! Im glad we agree it SHOULD.

            2. I live in the country. I drive 60 min to work and 60min home. I love spending time in the middle of nowhere with my dogs and without people.

To your point…I don’t really like having friends, despite people always trying to befriend me. I’m perfectly happy with internet acquaintances…and I’d be happy to game with them. ;)

              1. my comment was half serious and half a joke since i read somewhere u live in some country a while back don’t worry bro in your case u do need some online friends but im talking about the people who can actually make some XD

                1. I sorta live out in the country. I actually live in a small town where the bigger places are 30 minutes to an hour or more away. And I don’t think there are many gamers here. If there were, I would think I’d get some streetpass from people that don’t live with me every now & then if there were. So I like to make friends with people online that are also into video games. So next time you see me complaining about no voice chat or no online multiplayer, remember this! REMEMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! *scream fades out*

                    1. Yay for Play Coins, right!? Oh wait. We can only get 10 a day. *sigh* Apparently Nintendo forgot they would be releasing the handheld outside of Japan to a lot of countries where not everyone has such a well connected country. Streetpass is only good for places like Singapore, New York City, all of Japan, & other big cities where there are literally millions of people to walk right by where there is a higher chance of walking past someone that also has the same handheld as you.

      3. Anubis, Son of Osiris

Nintendo hasn’t felt pressure in a little while, that’s going to take some getting used to

They’re making a new game for an old series now, trying to put on like they used to.

They never told me when I use the gamepad, it’s going to take some getting used to.

Old fans in their butthurt feelings now, they don’t love Nintendo like they used to.

        1. The hell we dont lol

Honestly, I think what I heard a while back is starting to make sense.

“Nintendo does change, we just outgrow them.”

Maybe it’s time a few of us old heads finally let go of them.

              1. I said it a few times in earlier posts, the fact you’ve seen others say it shows I’m not alone in this line of thought…hmm. We’ll see. If Federation Force sells really well, and Splatoon keeps selling, and if their mobile games sell…they don’t need their older fans it would seem.

There was a day they’d try to hang on to us, given we supported them through their rougher days, but they’ve decided to start mining the younger crowd for $$$. Hope that works out for them.

      4. I’m looking forward to all these different types of gameplay in the title.

And it keeps looking better and better every time. If there’s a limited/bundle edition, I’ll buy on release.

      5. As much as I hate to say this, Xenoblade X so far is the only upcoming Wii U title that excites me more that this. Even the upcoming Fatal Frame if we count download only titles (in my region).

              1. I’m simply proving him a point that while the Wii U is “garbage”, I own all current gen consoles to get the best experience and play whatever games he enjoy. Besides, most of my purchases this year will be from Sony since there’s a chock full of games I need to get (Street Fighter, Sunset Overdrive, Devil May Cry, Zombi, ect).

                1. Anubis, Son of Osiris

Oh I understand that, but you asked where his God was and I had a need to reply for some strange reason.

            1. Pitch Black. Riddick. Good movie. (That’s where your comment came from) – can’t say it made a lot of sense, the way you used it. You must have been itching to find an opportunity. Lol. :)

      6. Wow. After scrolling through this comment section I am done with this page. There’s nothing but negativity here lately. I started using this site a couple of years ago, and back then it was way more positivity and fun. This site really has gone to shit…

        1. I’m still staying with this site because it can have some very good moments, but yea, this comment stream is horrible. You can’t judge a game by one shortened demo level, especially one based on stealth when it’s a Starfox game, come on! It’s like using the peach interludes in paper Mario and saying that’s how the whole game plays.

        2. Nothing has changed. I’d say it’s actually been halfway decent when comparing it to past years. You just haven’t been here long enough. Lol.

And blame Nintendo. They’re the one’s castrating their franchises, pissing off much of their adult audience and swapping us out for casuals and kids. If they can really make money that way, then more power to them.

I’m probably getting the Darth Vader edition PS4 with all the Starwars games bundle. Nintendo will have to earn every bit of my trust and loyalty back, if they don’t, I’ll just grab their systems during half-life for cheap and grab any IP’s if they bothered to make any I care about (Zelda, Metroid, F Zero, Starfox,) and any others targeting a mature audience like Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame…

I’m not sick of my WiiU, I’m sick of Nintendo. It’s gonna be a hard Sell to get me to by an NX. (unless it IS a handheld)

            1. My personal issue with Nintendo is, historically, for every Kirby or Yoshi or Mario, we got a mature title. Now it’s all kid games and shallow cash grabs. Mature, adult games are really rare now. They launched with promise, saying they’d cater to the adult crowd, waving Bayonetta and X at us at launch, we got ZombiU and Mass Effect 3…then they were like, “Ok, we got their money,” and the games for mature gamers just dropped off a cliff.

It’s impossible to understand if you’re a younger gamer, or if you don’t care if you only get a bunch of family-friendly, colorful platformers. (DKTF, Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, FForce) – some of us were kinda hoping they’d keep their word and not let the mature audience hang out to dry, but shame on me for getting suckered again. – at least, years later, we’ll get a couple games. X, Fatal Frame…starfox maybe… I’ve literally been playing launch games on my WiiU, because they are the ones Nintendo used to hook the adult crowd.

“Hey, this won’t just be a kid system, you’ll have 3rd party support, and kick ass games like Bayo, X, Zombiu, trust us!” – well I did. I bought the launch games, then got fucked over typical Nintendo style. 3rd party support died, and with it any chance to see another game not constructed of rainbows, platforms and solid-color textures.

              I digress.

        1. Personally I think this game looks very good! It has everything that made SF64 a good game and then added interesting new mechanics, new bosses, new stages, new story, and even returning stages have new layouts and over all feel very new! All this game needs is a little polish and it’s a day one purchase for me!

          1. I’ll most likely pick it up…i mean, it’s starfox and platinum games, just how BAD can they fuck it up?? If anything, I am worried it will be lite on content…no multiplayer of anykind to speak of. I’d LOVE to see Multiplayer added as an update, if it’s in the cards, they should fucking announce it already.

            1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

              >>>To me, if the game isn’t challenging in any way, it doesn’t matter how much content there is>>>

              1. Ofcourse! Hopefully there will be paths of increasing challenge, as before, with the hardest path making it entertaining for the experienced barrel-rollers.

                1. I hope not. I hated that about Star Fox 64. If this series is to Star Wars as Metroid is to Alien, I want a full story game where I get to go to every location. If people want the Star Fox 64 treatment, add in a competitive mode that allows people to build up a score & upload it to the internet. I need Star Fox Zero to feel my need for a Rogue Squadron type game since I really don’t want to go to EA for it.

                2. *remembers Miyamoto is involved in this game* Damn it! I’m getting my hopes up for this having a full length story with twist & turns similar to Star Wars!

            2. I think they said it has local multiplayer just not online. And iwata said they are considering adding in online after release, so make your voice known (in a nice way, nobody wants to listen to a self centered hog) and maybe online will come.

            3. So Jaded, which of us can hold our breath the longest with that “how bad can they fuck it up” part til the game releases? I know it won’t be me cuz I’m not that stupid & blind to Nintendo’s bullshit. Not anymore.

      7. Obviously Nintendo is not motivated to making games for Wii U anymore. Graphics looks like gamecube days, gameplay looks stale and boring, hardly any bad guys. If they had thought about Starfox in 2008 then it would have been better. But for some reason in 2008 they didnt think about F Zero, Starfox, Kirby, Zelda, Ness, They thought about these aftwards. But Nintendo is stupid so…

        1. Actually they started on Zelda Wii U immediately after skyward sword, and they already came out with a great Kirby game, F-Zero, and Earthbound have already been stated as “up to the devs” and we’re getting Fast Racing Neo which is very similar. StarFox Zero looks, in my opinion, like a very good game that needs a bit more polish. So I’m not mad about the Wii U’s library too much. It could be much better, but I feel I got my 300$ worth and much more. But I do hope that the NX fixes the problems I do have with the Wii U. The more I hear about it, the more I think it will.

          1. Metroid is “Up to the devs” as well. A real Metroid that is. Exploration I mean…not the Federation fucking around with a soccer ball. :]

          2. How they start on Zelda U right away when Wind Waker HD was being worked on? Why didnt they just do Zelda U, and it would have came out sooner and maybe Wii U could have had 2 original Zelda tittles.

      8. Starfox zero-rating game is shit adventures is better then this no online GameCube graphics low budget pos. Damn miyamoto won’t evolve with the times and embrace online even though the Nintendo fan Base is in the late twenty’s. It’s not like we all don’t work for a living and get together at the same place and play games that’s why it’s so key and Nintendo is killing themselves because there games are the most fun .all they need is better graphics a Normal fucking controller and an online like live with party chat etc

        1. Gamecube graphics but Nintendo charging is whats inside the console 1gb and 3 cores. Yet Wii U graphics on most tittles aint meeting standards.

      9. I guess it’ll be like Super Mario 3D World, what they showed at first was just the begining of the game and it looked horrible, as they showed more it started to look better and better and it ended up being a pretty good game.
And I’m actually already liking how it looks, the gyrowing levels seem like a nice change on pace that keeps the core mechanics of the game and yeah, the level shown was easy and slow but it’s probably just the first gyrowing level in the game and Nintendo games usually end up with a nice, tho sometimes optional, challenge (specially compared to modern AAA multiplats like mash to win creed and batman), except Treasure Tracker, that one was easy all the way

      10. Ha. Splatoons visuals says,”hi.” Older tittles look better than most newer tittles. Should had thought about more than 1gb for the gaming. Was quite stupid back in 2008 to accept just one 1gb spec. Now you ended up with a slighly more powerful than PS3 console. They also should had thought about releasing the wii u in 2013 so actual changes could be made to the console since its reached it’s limit to what the server can do. Stupid to think all the console needed for the OS was 1gb.

      11. While we at it, after all Nintendo heard from lack of online from New Super Mario Bros.wii, NSMBU, Nintendo Land, 3D World, Mario Party 10, Pikmin 3, Tropical Freeze why while StarfoZero was in R&D playing “online ” wouldnt be your first priority? That was stupid.

      12. Nintendo and Platinum Games will share the same effect that Super Mario 3D World and Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors had in the past… improvements.

      13. I really wanted this game to be good, but I think I’m not even gonna buy it now… that looked like the opposite of fun.

      14. Star Fox Zero should have been made from the ground up using every ounce of the Wii U’s power. It should have been fast, frantic, and used all new enemy design. I mean why the hell is Miyamoto using the same EXACT enemy design from past games???. What we got here is a half baked rushed game that recycles way too much from past games. Nintendo has a bad habit of penny pinching games lately and I think it’s finally gonna bite them in the ass…

The reviews for this game have to be amazing for me to buy it. If it get 9s and 10s it will be a buy for me. If it gets anything lower that means it’s exactly like I thought it would be and a no buy.

        1. Nintendo is ignoring a lot of their standards this gen.

“No rushed games.” *makes Star Fox Zero use an older model of a game instead of building it from the ground up so it can release in a year*

“We don’t make our consoles revolve around an expensive innovation & prefer to wait til the technology is cheaper.” *makes the Wii U with the expensive to replace Gamepad integral to the console’s main functions*

“We care about giving fun games.” *doesn’t add fun features like online multiplayer to multiple titles like Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, & other games that could have been online multiplayer friendly or not adding voice chat to games like Splatoon*

“We don’t like to hold back content & prefer to give our customers a fully complete game on day 1 of release.” *makes Splatoon & releases the on-disc content bit by bit*

“We don’t want to go mobile because of the micro-transaction stuff that goes on.” *not only goes mobile but also helps release some games that use such micro-transactions like Devil’s Third*

“We pride ourselves on quality games.” *let’s things like The Letter into the eShop*

      15. Holy hell there are some real whiners here.
Anywho i’m glad to see Zoness back. I hope we get all the planets back especially Macbeth.

      16. The more I see of this game the more I can’t understand what the hell they are thinking!? It looks appalling! That level has to be the dullest looking so far… Maybe Nintendo shouldn’t publish it like they nearly didn’t with Devils Third haha!!

      17. What i cant understand is how and why they pushed visuals in 3d World, Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, and MK8 but not Starfox. That’s stupid. After W101 visuals, you’d think Starfox would look better than that. But sadly W101 looks better than that. Kind of stupid for a popular franchise look worse than an all new IP. Thats stupid.

      18. All you graphics whores crying about STAR FOXES VISUALS here’s a question: HOW COME Y’ALL AREN’T PLAYING THE XBOX-1 OR PS4? Since you guys are totally pissed about Foxes visuals.

        1. I will answer your question. You upgraded from a Wii to Wii U right like 10 million others. Why? Necause it is a fact Wii U is wayyyy more powerful tha. Wii is. We paid for all the features inside the console, therfore we expect what the console is supposed to handle. When N64 came out as the years went by, graphcs looked better over time. When Gamecube came out graphics looke better on Pikmin 2 compared to Pikmin 1. Graphics looked better on Melee compared to first smash. Grqphics looked better on Brawl compared to Melee. Graphics look better on Smash Wii U compared to Brawl. So I expect starfox to have fun Gamellay and look wayyyyyy better than Starfox Assult. Because it has 1gb and 3 cores that you and 10 million people paid for. And the NX will be more powerful than the Wii U so when NX games look like Gamecube games and you aint complaing then something wrong with you.

        2. If I paid to updated from a wii to wii u and inside i now own Nintendo’s most powerful console, whats the point if latsr games coming out looking like Gamecube games? Same reason why there will be a long as line when Galaxy 7 and Iphone 11 comes out. They expect what they paid for. I already know the PS4 is king of graphics. I bought a Wii U to see and play a better upgrade from Wii to Wii U. Why you own a Wii U ?

      19. I had a lot of fun with the GameCube Star Fox game, what I’ve been seeing of Zero hasn’t impressed me like the GC one did.

      20. Pingback: Star Fox Zero si mostra in un video dal PAX Prime | VG247.it

      21. Undeniably imagine that which you said. Your favourite justification appeared to be at the internet the simplest factor to have in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get irked at the same time as people think about concerns that they just don’t recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thank you

      22. Some people don’t realize that these videos are just to show the vehicle’s functions, not the whole gameplay itself. If enemies were attacking all over, they wouldn’t be able to show anything.
