More NX rumours have emerged reiterating information that has come before with a sprinkling of additional bits. As with all NX rumours this information should be taken with a grain of salt as Nintendo has previously stated that they won’t be sharing any information about their next platform until next year. That being said it’s always nice to get some speculation going. Here’s the latest batch of rumours.
- He’s under strict NDA with Nintendo Japan
- Informations are from march 2015, with some updates from june-july
- He received a bunch of patents (some of them are publics now), info about what Nintendo is planning and a list of games potentially in development (some of them may or may not have been cancelled), third parties included
- NX is a platform, not tied with a single device
- Wii U is still in the picture thanks to good software results for games like Splatoon, will still be the main home console in 2016
- 3DS is a bit old, they’re planning of replacing it. Some games will still come out on it, but big projects are being moved on portable NX
- With NX, Nintendo wants to create a platform where they can develop software for multiple devices with ease, from the home console to the portable to smartphone and tablets. They’ll have a big catalogue available for multiple platforms, with cross buy, cross saves and cross play, similar to what Microsoft is doing with Xbox One and PC thanks to Windows 10 (that allows to play many Xbox games on PC, which is also getting a bunch of ports from Xbone). Each platform will still have exclusive games
- NNID is tied to the single device, but it will allow to share details between platforms, like friend list, contents, local coop games, etc. Thanks to the new membership program (the successor of Club Nintendo), we’ll benefit from the new Nintendo policies in terms of rewards
- They’ll show the portable in spring 2016, will be out for the end of the year or spring 2017 max. Specs will be higher than PS Vita but nothing mindblowing, screen resolution should be 540p, considering 720p if costs go down. BC with 3DS was problematic
- Wii U successor will not have an optical drive, which will be optional. It will sync with the portable (not obligatory). Specs won’t be super high, but close to PS4/X1 (doesn’t know how much, like with the portable this is still subject to change anyway). Cross games will look better on the home
- Nintendo is focusing a lot on the anti-piracy system
- Big focus on the OS as well. They hired people that worked for Google on Android, the guys who worked on the Gamecube OS and Wii U browser are there too. Optimized versions of the same OS for every NX platform (think, again, W10), each with its set of specific functions. Updates will come out at the same time, they’re focusing on making the OS blazing fast on every platform
- The home console can connect with the portable to send to it its own version of the games you buy, will use the same tech as the Wii U-Wii U Gamepad streaming to do that, or the internet connection
- The home will have bc with the Wii U. Gamepad should be compatible as a controller, considering selling it standalone. Can connect with the portable for offtv and bc. WiiMote compatibility is being considered too. As for support, since the new home won’t have an optical drive, they’re considering an external one. Also being considered NNID/eShop bc for titles bought on the eShop. Seems they’re considering digital games sharing too, but this bit is not perfectly clear
- The portable will have its own internal memory, which will be expandable
- There will be a complete overhaul of online infrastructures, but Nintendo is determined to hold successful operations as Miiverse, extending it even further and making it a central hub for communications by developers and a meeting place for players. It will be even more interactive with the ability to upload videos and screenshots in an integrated system and not dependent on the game
- Voice chat and interactions between users will be revisited too, much will depend on the users age though, to protect the minors
- The home will be out 6-12 months after the portable, creating the “NX system” that will allow Nintendo to better use their resources in games development
- They approached third parties during E3. Capcom, Square-Enix, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts already have devkits. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Sonic, F-Zero and Metroid are in development, doesn’t know if these are main episodes or spin offs. Zelda is currently a Wii U only title due to high development costs, but they can reconsider to have another big game at NX launch
- Prices will be low, 200-300€ (for the home?), considering a bundle with both for no more than 500€
- Many of these things will be discussed in future Nintendo Directs, which will have a different host in every market if Nintendo can’t find a new CEO by october
- A new 3D Mario will be shown, along with a new Zelda trailer. Retro moved their project on NX, will not be unveiled before 10-18 months
- They’ll talk about a new “Club Nintendo”, which will be in full function with NX
- Considering making agreements with phone carriers in order to better manage applications like Miiverse, Club Nintendo and the ability to purchase software by phone. Some of these will be out by March 2016
- Is everything set yet? Yes, but with Nintendo you’ll never know. If he has updates he will share them with us.

I think allot of it is, been hearing similar rumors about it being a platform or a family of systems that runs under one OS or games that are shared across the space. Thinking being able to play the mobile games on your home system too.
Some of this like unifying accounts and keeping the miiverse as the communication hub Nintendo has said on a few occasions. And trying to share the OS.
The one part I see missing that stands out to me Dena, and how it relates to cloud.

they sound pretty inline with what Nintendo has said in the past. I hope that the device has a edge on other current systems. I’m also hopping for all new controllers. a remote 3.0, classic controller 7.0 , balance board 2.0 , fit meter 3.0 (yes I’m counting the poke counter) and a new “view pad” that can act as a stand alone device (browser, camera, Netflix, some virtual console) but also dues the job of the current gamepad (second screen, off tv play, tv remote, UI navigation) the biggest issues I see is that the handheld is X64 (and can be used as a sort of pocket PC in terms of it having enough power to run apps) and the home system run on X86 (and thus also acting as a settop-box respectfully) also the switch to OLED, HD and multitouch would be nice….I can hope

It dues. From what Nintendo has officially said, from the trends they are adapting, while still thinking about a Nintendo way of doing things. A lot of these sound impressive but actually are very basic things to adapt, even in the sense that they couldn’t really do a new system without these things. Granted I know the Wii U was a weird product. But the biggest reasons it didn’t do well was 1) it didn’t come out sooner 2) it should of had a better name 3) several games were delayed or came out to late 4) advertising was low 5) what trends they adapted to were wonky at best. …..that said the Wii U and even to a smaller extant the 3DS were stop gap devices. They were a way for Nintendo to test several ideas and play with new trends while not over spending and being too risky. Everything from Splatoon, Mario maker, miivers, Eshop, indie developers, the “pro controller” exe were used to test waters and make better defined products down the line. That’s also why the NX playform well be put in mid life span of its competitors. Nintendo is also evaluating what Xbox and Sony have done with their new systems and using that information to its advantage. Good things on the horizon

Where it seems wrong is when it says the 3DS is old and they are replacing it. Why would they bring over the New Nintendo 3DS (the faceplate one) then? It costs a lot of money to get ’em over here and NOA was pretty against it at first. But now that it’s done, I don’t think they’ll immediately move on.

The original 3DS has been out for a while now so it may be indeed true but who knows… it says that it will be backwards compatible with 3ds, meaning that they will still be making 3ds games if this rumor turns out to be true. The beauty of this is that we already own a 3ds (nvm the version of it) and we get to choose to buy that one or not.
they did the same with the DSI I see no reason why they wouldn’t do it again. remember NX is a platform so they could suppost the NEW 3DS as a device to fully replace 3DS units and let developers keep publishing on it (they still let publishing on the wii) but could focus first party developing for just the NX systems

So, we can expect the Handheld NX in 2016 whilst the Home Console NX in 2017… interesting planning but Nintendo needs to make it more powerful than the PS4/Xbox One if they want to keep up to date.

A GTX 750 Ti for only £130 can actually produce a better performance than the PS4 and Xbox One. So, it’d be very disappointing if Nintendo is just going to have it on par with those consoles.

I have been very satisfied with the Wii U. There have been some issues that would be better, perhaps more games, but I also haven’t played everything either. They can make a console with NES specs. As long as they pay publishers to make games (and pay them enough so that the PS4 and XBOX One versions will be the same/inferior), they will get third party support. My guessing is that they were not paying them to release games on Wii U, so that is why it does have almost no 3rd partys.

Nintendo are designing a new concept so if Sony/Microsoft come out with new consoles say 2019 Nintendo can just bring a new NX out with super specs due to them using the same type method as Apple in terms of game development where the same games can get made but just with higher specs in terms of framerates and resolutions also higher textures res and more AA ect ect,Nintendo could bring out a Tablet NX to sit along side Home/Portable…

Home console NX is planned for 2017, Wii U was released 2012, giving it the same 5 year run that the Gamecube and N64 had. In fact the Wii only had a 6 year run as well.
But the wii u recieved far less games than all of the console you mentioned. Also, do you really count 3 games for 2016 as being “support”?
If the Home NX is backward compatible, then there’s little point in re-making it.

If there really is main F-Zero/Metroid in development for NX and not spin offs, i might consider getting this thing, but for the most part NX sounds like a mess, if the homeconsole version isnt gonna out do Ps4/One, then theres no hope for 3rd party support. The reason why N64 got all the epic StarWars games was because at its time N64 was the most powerful system and was the only system to get decent PC ports, unlike Ps1 and Saturn. Gamecube also got lots of support being powerful and all.
Not gonna get system if its just about Nintendo games, say what you want about buying systems for exclusives but its kinda stupid if the system is only worth it for exclusives, Xbox and Playstation have both exclusive and multiplat content, so those two have way more value.
But still its just a rumour, and the rumour that Nintendo would have F-Zero in development should make fans little bit cautious towards this rumour, unless its somesort of spinoff where C.Falcon has overly sized head and drives fast Karts and everyone smiles and soundtrack consists of overly happy jingles….

Well, you might be on to something, but it would be good for Nintendo if they still made sure this thing would be above Ps4/One, ppl would hear that its the best system and multiplats would be the best versions. Also sometimes it would result for a scenario where game is too big to be downgraded to Ps4 and it would stay as NX/PC game. Happened with N64 and with those StarWars games, there was no way to downgrade ShadowsOfTheEmpire for Ps1, so it was just N64/PC game. And those StarWars games did sell N64´s, it was a time when StarWars was coming back. In a similiar fashion StarWarsBattleFront will sell more XboxOne/Ps4 systems, Nintendo being the one to miss out.

As you said this is a rumor, with that said. That will be the concern for anyone looking for 3rd party games on nintendo home system. Even if power is there, I think the western 3rd parties will look closely at how the first batch of games sell and those that sell well will determine the type of support. 3rd party games at least need to sell 5 percent of the user base for them to be happy. For example if watch dogs had of sold to 5 percent of the wii u install base then ubisoft may have rethought their support. Anything over 5 percent is icing on the cake. I think for the other consoles they looking for at least 10 percent.
Forgot to add that 5 percent of watchdogs at that time would be close to 500, 000 due to the Wii U being under 10 million at that point.

Second, no extra effort to make it worth the delay. At the time the game was released on Wii U, a lot of people have played (and sold) it.

The problem is that by 2017, a console is actually nearing the end of its life. Time was a console cycle was only five years long, so console cycles of seven years of longer are actually a new phenomenon (the overlap with the NX and the current gen will only be 2-3 years). I’m excited by the prospect of a new F-Zero, but this particular rumor made the whole thing sound like a Nintendophile’s wet dream and made me a little skeptical that any of it was true. Still, a Retro developed Metroid is what this console needs straight out of the gate. Still, I’m one of the satisfied Wii U owners on this news site. I always often lament that Nintendo is so out of touch with its consumer base, but I’ll buy the new product and be happy with it regardless.
Wii U will be ending its life cycle and so will the others, at least in the general sense, but those companies in this day and age might be trying to push the life span of those consoles a bit more… hard to say, but if I was in a conference room at any of those companies that is what I would be doing. Hell, a PS3 still gets the newest Madden and other games and that console is 9 years old… the PS4 came out 7 years after the PS3, so it is already the case that the “console lifespan of 5 years” is not necessarily the case any longer. These rumors could all be bullshit though

Why should Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft have to pay 3rd parties? They should be happy they are allowed to make games for them. I think you are right to some degree, it looks like a complete reorganization of Nintendo gaming, “NX” being an umbrella term for the new Console, handheld, mobile delivery system… leaks are good, but hopefully we get that glimpse next summer
The biggest problem with POWER is that there are at least 5 variations of POWER in a console shared between Network speed/Wattage and Raw CPU/GPU POWER it’s not always as simple as these Sony fanboys make out i mean the real question is will NX be more CAPABLE then ps4 and the answer to that is YES.

Honestly, this sounds more like a mishmash between what Nintendo said so far, a previous rumor stating it might not have an optical drive and a previous (long since) debunked rumor stating it would be a powerful console that comes in two parts (the handheld and the home console).

I believe you’d misunderstood what I said “it might not have a disk drive”. The “specs” here said that the disk drive is optional. To me, that statement makes it resemble the rumor that the NX won’t come with the disk drive.

I would think that’s the standard size for the initial release of titles, since SDXC starts at 32. Afterwards they’ll increase in size as developers get lazy/graphics get more intense. Considering release timing 64GB and 128GB are options as they’ll be more affordable.
They’re already downloading titles of that size, much more actually. And we soon can too with X coming out, 22.7GB.

It could always change. and 540p is finally an improvement from the constant 240p they kept having in the consoles. Paying 3rd parties=support, power does not matter. 3rd parties always go with the lowest specs in mind, and let’s not forget that people kept making PS2 games for a long time after the PS3 released. All that matters is that the games have to be ported easy and to pay 3rd parties decently. (if they payed 3rd parties, the Wii U would have gotten a lot of games, since it was pretty easy to work on).

LOL, why do you think that there are so many indies on the Wii U? Sure, it is not as easy as PC to PS4 and Xbox One, but it is as easy to work on as the 360 was and much easier than the PS3, it is just the developers/publishers (but I would say that it’s the publishers; remember the Crysis 3 drama?) that are lazy. They are still making games for the PS3 and 360 only because of the systems sold. If Microsoft would not pay EA, then they would not see any game post launch from them until the Xbox one sells 20 million units. And it should be easy for developers if they worked on the GCN or Wii. And I am sure that the third party support only comes if:
1. Your system sold tons of units
2. You pay them. (And if you pay enough, you get exclusive games/dlc or early DLC).
Do you think that it has to do with power? Sure, some devs have integrity and can convince publishers to let them do what they want. But most of the big publishers never do so.

540 is fantastic for a handheld console, and more than enough for a screen the size of a Vita or a 3DS XL.

Phones are coming out with 720,1080, 2k, and 4k. Why should handheld be any different? Especially as tech gets cheaper.

I’ve 100% completed 3D world and I can safely say that, while it’s still a decent game, it not only has a number of flaws (no online multiplayer for starters) but is extremely bland in comparison to previous entries. Sunshine had FLUDD, Galaxy had the gravity aspect. What does 3D world introduce? Nothing! Lazy as fuck compared to sunshine and Galaxy!

Nintendo will not go all digital. They will not abandon such a huge consumer base. Nor will they throw away all thier retail store connections.. You will always be able to walk into a best buy or Walmart, and buy a physical copy of a Nintendo game, no matter the platform.
And having a handheld device that’s about as powerful as the Ps4 sounds pretty nice to me.

The thing I don’t like is the whole “no optical drive” thing. I’m still not sold on digital-only and prefer buying on disc over digital when the option is there. Nintendo would really have to fix their online structure, which if this is to be believed isn’t happening. “Tied to a console”. You can’t tie our account to ONE console, it’s just stupid! I don’t know about XBONE, but PS4 makes you set a primary console and that’s where your games are available to play. PS4 breaks? You sold it for the new fancy design? Just link it and set the new PS4 as your primary console. Nintendo clearly wants your games on one system and not shared among three of the same thing, but linking it to one and making it next to impossible to recover them is no way to run a digital store. If this is how the NX will be then I honestly don’t know that I care to buy it.
Well, there’s a way for you to transfer your files or back them up on the 3DS and Wii U. I don’t expect things to be any different with the NX. And if the console breaks, you should be expecting things to work out just like how the PS4 does. If it doesn’t work out that way, Nintendo will and should be getting a crapload of hate from the community and from their costumer support. I wouldn’t think that customer support would deny the games that you paid for if your console completely broke and you couldn’t retrieve them. All Nintendo would want to do is avoid people from duplicating games by sharing accounts with multiple consoles. That would be piracy and it will only be their fault for making it so easy.

No. the top screen the the 3DS is 400 x 240 pixels. Or 800 x 240 pixels in 3D. So technically, if I’m not mistaken on how resolutions are named, it is 240p, but doubled when in 3D. The NX will probably be between 480p and 720p as it’s max. The number usually refers to vertical resolution, so according to the rumor the NX’s screen will be something like 700 x 540 (or 1400 x 540 in 3D). That’s more than twice the resolution. I know compared to flagship smartphones, it’s not at all impressive but the 3DS surely has proven that screen resolution doesn’t matter.
That resolution is just a really rough estimate though. Its probably more like 800+ x 540
If it were to keep the same aspect ratio as the 3DS, it would be 900 x 540

Hold on…Retro moving their project to NX…Retro doesn’t do handheld games lol. That part is false. Course Zelda is Wii U only. And Miyamoto already stated the next time we see Mario it will be on the next system. So a Mario game at launch of NX is basically guaranteed.
I think you’ve read something wrong. According to the rumor, the NX refers to a platform for both a home console and a handheld. What it sounds like is that the consoles will run on the same or very similar OS’s so that developers can simultaneously develop the same games for both consoles. This would explain why they do not have a CD drive because all of the physical copies of the games will have to be either cartridges or download only in order for the games to be compatible with both handheld and home consoles.
It should be noted that like the original Wii (a system that didn’t support HD and yet retained amazing visuals for games such as the Mario Galaxy duo and Sonic Colors among other titles), the NX will be able to strain it’s boundaries in terms of game quality like the Wii often did in it’s later life and even when it was first released. I’m looking forward to the NX, but unless it ends up as budget smart as the rumors keep saying, I don’t know about getting it.
Why would you make a console a little bit weaker than PS4 knowing the Ps5 will be more powerful than the PS4. Thats stupid.
Nintendo lost faith.
They can’t make a home console weaker than current gen consoles because the parts won’t exist anymore. It will cost more for Nintendo to make the NX weaker because they will have to hire people to rebuild and customized ” old ” parts which wouldn’t make sense. By default the NX will be more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One but I don’t think that’s the direction that Nintendo should go. They should definitely future-proof it and have it ready to go up against the PS5 and the next Xbox so that they won’t get left behind this time

Let’s hope it’s strong enough to take on PS5 but I think your statement is incorrect. I could be wrong and that would make me quite the dumbass if so, but I think your statement is incorrect. I lost interest and stopped reading this article as soon as the “journalist” (I I say that very loosely) started using terms such as Xbone. Everyone expects that from little fanboys which this author obviously is. Nice he gets to play grown up at the expense of wasting everyone’s time.

All these rumors about various projects always seem like a random guy just compiled a wish list and posted it to the internet as a leak.
Everything is believable … except … where’s the gimmick?
Nintendo promised something “new” … i forget how they worded it, but that lead most people to assume Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality or some new device.
Besides the new consoles being more powerful, i’m hearing that they’re potentially losing things … maybe losing the Wiimote? … maybe losing backwards compatibility? … maybe losing the optical drive? … besides power, what’s it gaining? … what’s “new”? … this wasn’t answered.
“We can’t talk about the NX,” Iwata said. “If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won’t be surprised.”

I just hope Nintendo finally realizes that power does matter now. I mean I don’t care about the most powerful system. I only care about the the console with the most fun games. But 3rd parties are a different story. The most powerful system is the the ONLY thing they care about. I mean yeah there’s the sells of the console too but you know what I mean right? They only care about how good looking they can make their games. That’s part of the reason why the frame rate for some of their games have been shit… I can’t be the only one who noticed that right?Nintendo needs to realize that. I’m begging you Nintendo! Just stick that shit in your head! I love innovation as much as you guys! Trust me! But no one in this industry gives a fuck about that anymore! Its sad but true! So please no bullshit this time OK? People already consider you the laughing stock of the industry and your just sitting there making it seem like you really are! Time to get serious again!
so i guess they are gonna be finish with the 3DS next well i totally agree with them so i think its time for a new handheld system but im still a disappointed that the NX will not have a disc drive inside of it.

just putting out my opinion! the whole 5 year per generation deal! if sony and ms actually releases a console 2 years after the nx.. then next generation it will be 3 and by that time they will realise that oh no! nintendo is allready putting out a more powerfull console in 2 years time! so what is the point in buying a ps and xb ??? if you just wait 2 years then you will get a better console then those! and if they do this again it will be 4 years… and then in just 1 year a more powerfull console again! so yeah.. this whole “more then 5 years per generation” shit will come back and bite them in the ass! and then people will froth at the mouth and form a mob and go on a field day on the internet defending and arguing like us with nintendo right now!. well not exactly frothing… but atleast defending that graphics and such are not the most important thing in the world.. and the whole deal with third parties! why not just make games just for the nintendo console ? catered to those who play on that console! instead of porting something halfassed!??? or instead if what i said earlier happened.. those who like the sony and xb console might do the same thing ? atleast then they might earn some more cash and won’t put out halfassed games!
