The Nintendo 64, which was 14th best-selling platform of all time and the 9th best-selling home console, had some fantastic games. Titles such as Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie are fondly remembered today as being the pinnacle of 3D platformers. VG Chartz has obtained sales data for the platform and has put together a list of the best-selling video games on the Nintendo 64. One thing you will notice is that four of the top-ten titles are from UK development studio Rare which just goes to show how important their output was during the period.
- Super Mario 64 – 11.89 Million
- Mario Kart 64 – 9.87 Million
- GoldenEye 007 – 8.09 Million
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – 7.60 Million
- Super Smash Bros. – 5.55 Million
- Pokémon Stadium – 5.45 Million
- Donkey Kong 64 – 5.27 Million
- Diddy Kong Racing – 4.88 Million
- Star Fox 64 – 4.03 Million
- Banjo-Kazooie – 3.63 Million
I love the N64, wasn’t Animal Crossing another game for it too?
The first animal crossing game outside of Japan was on GameCube.
It was actually, but only in japan. The west didn’t see it until its Gamecube remaster, which we never knew was a remaster at all.
Put Mischief Makers, Guardian Heroes, Panzer Bandit, and Gunstar Heroes on the eshop, and that’ll be a list of games I download.
Some of the best games of all time.
Fuck you! All of these are fucking dogshit compared to Bubsy 3D you goddamn nintendrones!
Lol you fucking suck at trolling
Yeah? Why you you try it then if you’re so fucking confident?
Also, I’m the best troll this site has ever had…it’s just these ninclowns got assraped sooo hard they don’t know what hit them XD
Bullshit thats why youre too much of a bitch to use a username, and if youre so good why did i call you out so easily cunt
It’s a joke man,
Don’t forget Conker’s Bad Fur Day.
Out of all thoese games on that list I only owned 5 I had Mario 64 goldeneye banjo kazooie ocarina of time Mario kart 64
Mario at the top? Who would have guessed!!!XD
My brother gave me his N64 as a hand-me-down when I was a kid. Apparently he never got half of the games on the list, including Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Golden Eye 007, Diddy Kong Racing, and Star Fox 64. Banjo-Kazooie was/is my jam though.
Mario 64 is the greatest game of all time.
It is a very good game that’s for sure. I didn’t play the original Mario 64 until I got it at a old game’s store around 5 years ago. Although, most of my time spent with the game is on the DS remake, which I play occasionally now and then (on the 3DS with the circle pad).
ISS SOCCER 64 BY FAR THE BEST FOOTBALL GAME OF THE GEN
PILOT WING COOL GAME
I owned/still own 8 out of 10- not too bad :P
Strangely those two I never got were big titles; Star Fox 64 and Donkey Kong 64.
I’m surprised Pokemon Stadium isn’t higher. I swear everyone and their mothers owned that game
I owned all except banjo kazooie
Beat em all, Battle Zone: Rise of the Black Dogs was another excellent N64 gem. I still want a Donkey Kong 64 remake or next better version. Hell I might bust out the old beast and play it.
Wiiu
Hey, It’s 2015 here
VG charts? Really? Can we really consider this site real on numbers when they record with accuracy is horrible.
So Rare is the only developer apart from Nintendo who got it to the top 10 and Nintendo let them get bought by Microsoft. WHY?!
Yep. The one bad regrettable business decision ever in video game history. Next to the person that said yeah let’s call it “Wii U”. Hahahaha
Rare had controlling share, and they sold that share to Microsoft (which Nintendo shortly after sold the shares they owned).
Also, most the talented developers left before the buyout, with the rest of them leaving after Microsoft purchased Rare.
Even IF Nintendo still had Rare, the talent left. Nintendo noticed this with the quality in Rare’s games dropping.
Man, Goldeneye ruins this entire (otherwise agreeable) list. Why do/did people love that game so much? First person shooters are horrible abominations of man kind. And how can anyone’s eyes handle looking at them? I get SO motion sick playing First Person games.
I cant believe that Conker’s Bad Fur Day, or ANY of the Mario Party games aren’t on this list. Those first Mario Parties were AWESOME! Mario Golf and WWF No Mercy were also awesome! The best Mario Golf and WWF/WWE game ever (aside from graphics).
-Yeah that’s true, most of the talent left.
– if you hate fps now try going back and playing goldeneye with the reverse aiming and four button controls. It’s like trying to play a fps while suffering vertigo.
Haha
– I’m surprised Mario Party isn’t on this list as well considering how new and awesome it was for its time. As well as the WWF wrestling games. Every kid I knew played those games.
-Cruisin USA was another game I played a lot along with Wave Race, I remember renting 1080 so many times I probably should have bought it.
– then there was Killer Instict Gold and Clay Fighter 63″ 1/3 ” awesome games. Oh the memories.
Haha wwe no mercy was a funny and fun to play game actually. Best goofy ass animations ever.
Conker’s Bad Fur Day was literally the last N64 game and was poorly advertised. With the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox at your door, it’s hard to sell well.
