Super Smash Bros Inspires An NFL Player’s Touchdown Celebration

I think I’ve found my favorite NFL player. Travis Kelce, who is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has a Nintendo-inspired touchdown celebration based on one of Donkey Kong‘s signature moves in Super Smash Bros. That’s right – Donkey Kong and his Giant Punch special ability, which sees him twirling his arm repeatedly until he gains enough power to unleash a massive, devastating blow. See Kelce’s unique celebration for yourself in the video above.

“I got the actual move from Super Mario Smash Brothers,” Kelce said on NFL Network. “I mean, Donkey Kong was the original, what they called the ‘Fist of Zeus.’ He had the original Fist of Zeus on Smash Bros.”

  1. How does anyone even know that this guy based it off of Donkey Kong? Has this guy even seen a video game console in the last 16 years?

  2. He is a “tight end”
Lmfao….. NFL is the dumbest fuckin game on the planet and they give the positions names like that!!
    U yanks crack me up!!!

    1. NFL isn’t a game, it’s a league. American football is the game. That’s like calling Premier League a game. Cricket positons: Wicket Keeper, cowcorner…. Rugby Positions Hooker, Lock, Loosehead, Tighthead…

  3. I don’t see the donkey Kong connection much I mean unless he actually confirms it u can’t really claim it was Nintendo inspired. It’s like if a ufc fighter throws a flying knee u can’t say that’s captain Falcon inspired

  4. No, I think this is really donkey kong inspired. He does the wind up then when he’s in the endzone at the end he flexes and does that donkey kong downward headshake that DK does in his forward and down taunts.

You gotta keep your eye on it but its there

  6. Im such a fan of this site, but men, this is not news at all, is an assumption, and a terrible one if I might add. Sorry guys, but this is a fail.

  7. I can’t really say Smash inspried this. It’s pretty generic to come up with and that motion isn’t just done by DK in pop culture so I don’t really buy it

  8. Its not nessecarilly based on Dk’s punch… its not like winding your arm up and punching originated with Dk.

By that logic we could say he was inspired by hunter x hunter…

  9. And if it really is dk I spired then maybe the writer should have cited sources showing that it was for sure. if all the loser cockflexes in the comments here can provide proof and the article writer can’t then there’s problems
