A Handy Guide To Purchasing Skylanders: SuperChargers Starter Packs

Skylanders: SuperChargers is the latest installment in Activision’s successful toys-to-life range. The game launched in North America nearly a week ago, and makes its debut in Europe this weekend. Unfortunately, its launch has come with a great deal of confusion.

In addition to releasing the game on 6 consoles, Activision has released a second complementary title alongside it, named Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing – though only for the Nintendo Wii and 3DS. If that’s not bad enough, both of these titles are only offered as expensive bundles at retail. So, before you spend your hard-earned money, read this guide to decide which bundle is right for you.

  1. Not much of a guide without a few key things to keep in mind.

A few ebay sellers buy copies of the packs en masse and split them up into their individual bits and pieces to sell about a month after every game’s launch. You can often find starter pack figures for generally under 5$ a pop as a result.

Keep an eye out at your local Ebgames and Gamestop in their used figure section, as the starter pack figures of every game appear there pretty consistently from boxes that have been damaged and separated very similarly to how ebayers do it for secondary sale.

Make sure to take advantage of sales during the holidays, as starter packs often drop 20 or so dollars from Toysrus sales alongside the release of a new wave of figures to peak interest further.

Watch out for Skylanders days held by Ebgames and Gamestop. They generally post about it at random points of the year within newsletters, emails and flyers, and often bring pretty big sales and great deals on individual figures. Often times free things will be given out for spending more than 20$.

And keep an eye out if you’re a NIB collector during the first half of next year. There have been many times where figures that weren’t planned, or even refused to be sold seperately have arrived on shelves as singular figures through popular demand, or as variants. So there could very well be hope.

Also keep an eye out at conventions where Ebgames or Gamestop have large booths. They often bring huge vats of used figures from their warehouses and sell them for dirt cheap. Like under 3$ dirt cheap. I was at Fanexpo Canada this year and they had the Dark edition figures from Swap Force and Trap team for 2$ each.

And that’s about it from me.
    Happy collecting poor phavours

  2. I saw these in Wal-Mart yesterday. And they look STUPID!
Bowser’s face looked like he was made in some cheap Chinese factory. Donkey Kong looks like he’s horny and wacked out on drugs. LOL! These are the first two figures related to amiibos that I care nothing about EVER buying.
