Super Smash Bros Update Is Now Live And Includes New Stages And Costumes

You may have noticed that the Super Smash Bros update went live earlier this morning. It brings with it a host of new features including two new stages for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS with new Mii costumes. The previously announced Super Mario Maker stage is available as well as an updated version of the Pirate Ship stage which appeared in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Nintendo has also rather kindly added the Wii U Duck Hunt stage to the Nintendo 3DS for free. There’s also  new Mii costumes. These include two sets from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, a Toad outfit, a business suit, the Viridi from Kid Icarus Uprising and Mii outfits for Fox and Captain Falcon.

Pricing for the new content:

  • Super Mario Maker stage – US$2.49/C$3.19 for one version, $3.49/$4.39 for both
  • Wind Waker stage: $1.99/$2.49 (Wii U only)
  • Mii costumes: $0.75/$0.99 for one version, $1.15/$1.49 for both
  • Full packages: All the Mii costume sets are $5.25/$6.93 for one, $8.05/$10.43 for both. The bundle of all new content is $7.74/$10.12 on 3DS, $9.73/$12.61 on Wii U and $13.53/$17,31 for both versions.

  1. We Need a “For Chaos” or “Custom” online mode that allows use of Custom and Mii Fighters so all these costumes actually have a POINT.

I want to actually play against other human beings with my Mii Fighters, but 98% of Adult Gamers in America with Jobs and families and lives of their own will NOT visit a Gaming friends house to play together often enough to make Custom and Mii Fighters worth even building.

When I play with my gamer friends (which live dozens, hundreds and even tens of thousands of miles away), we play online.

Give us a way to use our Mii Fighters ONLINE.
I would LOVE to play a few rounds and slay a few Bowsers and Charizards Online as a Monster Hunter … but first Nintendo has to LET US.

      1. Yes … I forgot for a moment, but remembered just as I hit the submit button. It has just been so long since the last time I actually got a game going when my friends were not already playing another game that I forgot I could. My circle is playing a lot of Monster Hunter 4 right now.

So have I, really. That is why I am frustrated that I can’t play as a MH Mii Fighter with randoms online. Even my MH friends are not online the same time as me often enough.

    1. … in the Normal Online mode, I mean. I know you can do it with your freind code friends … but when I can actually get a round going in that is about 1% of my online play time, since coordinating shedules, and wanting to play the same game rarely works out.

(what a wonderful change it is now that there are actually enough good Online WiiU and 3DS games to make this an issue, though)

      1. Yeep. And no worries, I’ve done the same with posts. :P But yeah, it would be a nice change, they ARE considering it though. At least you CAN do DLC maps online. You just have to hope the rng picks them and at least one person has it for it to be in the equation. Then anyone can play it. :)

    1. They don’t look that much overpriced separately. I think 2 dollars for a stage is a fair price, for example. Maybe not for a returning stage, but whatever.

Problem is, it keeps stacking. The full game already costs like 70 dollars, and I’m not counting costumes.

      1. Well I suppose if you only chose to get certain things it works out better. But if you chose to get everything it would be about $50 for one game or $75 for both games. And most of that is costumes; some of which look pretty cool, but they don’t really add anything new to gameplay. The only gameplay changing dlc are 6 stages and 4 characters. In Mario Kart you can get 6 characters, 16 stages, 8 vehicles, and 8 extra colors for yoshi and shy guy for $11.99. Smash Bros should at least add new movesets for the mii characters. That would make mii content more worthwhile.

It’s a shame the Mii Fighters outfit customization is held back by being just headgear & body suit. I’d love to be able to mix & match weapons & different articles of clothing with different colors.

        2. Yeah, that’s why I’m not getting any costumes, just the characters. I’m thinking hard about getting the stages, though, especially the Mario Maker one.

And you really can’t compare the amount of work a Smash character takes with a Mario Kart character. Debugging every combination of moves of/in that character along with how it uses/gets hit by objects alone is an insane amount of work.

Out of all the awesome Monster Hunter outfits, they pick one of the most basic outfits for the second one. Bleh! I love the Viridi hair, though. We need more of those headgears since the hair we can use when making our Miis are pretty… cementy. Yeah. Nintendo seriously needs to update the Miis with more hair, eye, & color options. I’m glad to see the Wind Waker stage back, though, as I love the music for it!

Oh & I also noticed the 3DS version got one of the Wii U stages added. That’s… not really cool, Nintendo. So when can we expect even more Wii U exclusive stuff to go to the 3DS version, hm?

    1. To be fair, the Pirate Ship stage added today is Wii U exclusive, but I get your animosity. It’s like Nintendo wants the 3DS version to be the definitive version- don’t forget it’s the reason we don’t have Ice Climbers.

Oh that’s right! I completely forgot about that! Speaking of, I remember the damage control excuse Sakurai gave us after the backlash for no Ice Climbers. “Oh I didn’t use them because they aren’t relevant today.” Oh really!? Then why is fucking Duck Hunt, Mr. Game & Watch, & R.O.B. in the game!? *looks around for the Nintendo defenders* Crap. Like the devil, just mentioning them makes them show up!

is it me or are the miis just getting costumes and the roster is still missing shantae and solid snake?
