Nintendo of America has revealed the North American box-art for the soon to be released Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash for the Wii U. The sports title, which has replaced Star Fox Zero as the big holiday Wii U title alongside Xenoblade Chronicles X, is due to be released on November 20th. Are you a fan of the box-art?

Compete with friends in the multiplayer Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash game on the Wii U system. Along with the fun and dynamic gameplay known to the franchise, surprise your opponents with a new move to the series, the Jumpshot, which sends the ball flying down the court. Change the sport up with new Mega Battles, using the Mega Mushroom to gain an advantage over the competition. Claim your spot in Mario Tennis lore in singles (1v1) or doubles (2v2) as you play with and against family, friends or the CPU using returning and new characters to the series.

Features:

  • Compete with friends in the multiplayer Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash game on the Wii U system.
  • Play against friends and family in multiplayer matches.
  • Play against friends and family in both singles (1v1) and doubles (2v2) matches as your favorite Mushroom Kingdom character.
  • Control your character’s every movement on the court, using precise timing and the correct shot to outwit your opponent.
  • Use the new Jumpshot technique to return shots like never before.
  • In Mega Battles, get the Mega Mushroom to gain a “big” advantage over your competition.
  • New characters make their Mario Tennis debut.

      1. Yeah I agree. A Mario Golf game or a Mario Strikers game would’ve been way better choices and would’ve most likely sold more. I’ll probably give it a shot but Nintendo has once again dropped the ball by developing a Mario sports title that nobody really asked for………at least in the states or in Europe

          1. Your Friendly Neighborhood Robot

I get what you’re sayung, but they kinda do. What if they just made more Animal Crossing Amiibo Festivals? Or more Metroid spinoffs that nobody wanted? They would get a lot less sales very quickly.

            1. It goes both ways. Developers shouldn’t be fans lap dogs, they should try to do stuff that nobody else thought of and should know what a consumer wants before they want it, at the same time, you can’t ignore fan feedback either, that’s a good way to improve a game.

          2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Wow. Is this really what I use to sound like before E3 this year? Glad I got over this “anti-consumer, pro-company” bullshit.

            1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

              >>>You went the opposite instead which is equally bad, like Stranga, just because the empire is an imbecilic imperial force sometimes, specially with the Wii U, doesn’t mean that everything they do is bad by default>>>

              >>>Many in here are so blinded by their rage that everything is bad regardless of reasons or no reasons at all, it’s childish>>>

              >>>But most of all is when humans like Stranga that used to be my ally went against me because he felt betrayed by the empire, whatever that had to do with me>>>

              1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Some of everything they are doing right now is bad. When Nintendo gives us some actual good news, then I’ll be all “Yay! Nintendo is awesome!” Til then, I’m going to express my negative opinions whether the Nintendo ass kissers like it or not. I’ll just spend my money on PS4 games til Nintendo releases a game I actually don’t have to worry about shitting on a franchise’s established graphics/artstyle (Federation ChibiShitForce with a chibi artstyle that NOBODY asked for NOR does any true fan even want), holding back content with a stupid 9 day waiting period (formerly Super Mario Maker but luckily they actually listened to their hardcore fans), releasing an unfinished game for full price when if something went wrong that people that bought it for 60 bucks would now be stuck with a game with only 20 bucks worth of content (Splatoon; thank God nothing did go wrong or else there would have been a lot of consumers that got ripped off & it would have devastated Nintendo’s reputation even more so than it is right now), releasing a game in the States as digital only when most would prefer a physical copy (Fatal Frame 5), or releasing a game months after it’s been out in one country thus ruining some of the hype & momentum of the game’s release everywhere else (Xenoblade Chronicles X).

      2. For me it goes, Mario Kart>Mario Tennis> Mario Sluggers> Mario Strikers> Mario Olympics> Mario Golf.

Mario Golf is just… why? Golf is boring to start with. A VIDEO GAME version of it is even worse, even with Mario as a playable character.

        1. Well, Mario Kart on top, obviously. I’d probably put Olympics there too. And I agree about golf, I always thought is more of a sport for old people than anything.

        2. That’s the way little kids usually feel about golf. They’re too freakin’ impatient and can’t stand having to wait for the other player to hit the ball. I hate all of the fast, frantic games where you can’t even relax and take your eyes off the screen for one minute.

  1. I’m not even interested in this game at all right now, honestly. Mario Tennis Open left a bad taste in my mouth honestly (although I do like it somewhat, it’s just very short). The only reason I even somewhat care for this game is that it’s one of the few remaining holiday titles for the Wii U besides Xenoblade.

    1. Yeah, I thought Open had sort of an addicting gameplay, but nothing that really just gave it that wow factor. Every match felt repetitive, and it was really bland over all. I’m looking forward to this one though, in hopes that it redeems it’s franchise.

      1. I’m going to say that Power Tennis was the best and most impactful Mario Tennis game and it gave every character a unique feel, but I’ll see how this one goes. Maybe it will give Power Tennis a run for its money?

      1. You can’t use Wiimotes? Why didnt they think of Wiimotes for this game during R&D? Knowing that people have more stored Wiimotes them can afford $50 Pro controllers. That was stupid.

        1. I’d glad you can’t. I played Power Tennis on Wii and the controls fucking sucked… I hate that version. After that I played the original GameCube version and A LOT more fun.

          1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

There are still plenty of people that would like to play the game using motion controls. I guess Nintendo & some of their fans really do hate options. No wonder the Gamepad is a forced gimmick.

              1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

So fuck the hundreds of people that would buy this game if they could play the game the way THEY wanted to? You could say it’s their loss but it’s really Nintendo’s loss as that is 60 bucks not going into their pockets.

  2. When they thought about a Mario sports game back in headquarters with gaming developers and CEOs, why didnt they think of Super Strikers before Mario Tennis got started in R&D? That was stupid.

  3. So let me get this right, so when NSMBU was in R&D, they thought about Wiimotes for that 2D platformer before Pro Controllers and when Mario Tennis for Wii U was in R&D, they just thought about the Pro controller and not the Wiimotes. Yet thought about wiimotes for Smash,Mario Party, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, Tropical Freeze yet stupud enough not to work the controller on Mario Tennis during R&D?

      1. So it was stupid not to think of motion controller when working wiimotes to play sideways in R&D but not thinking the same way you played Mario Tennis on Wii. That was stupid.

  4. Just saw gameplay on youtube. Not interested. Super mushrooms come out too often. No red, green or blue shells, no banana peels, no stars. Stupid to not rebring those features to the game during R&D.

  6. I’m only purchasing this if it has online multi-player and it’s not gimped. Also really need to be able to get some kind of challenge out of it. The one on 3ds was horrible everything was auto.

  7. “The sports title, which has replaced Star Fox Zero as the big holiday Wii U title alongside Xenoblade Chronicles X”

Replaced? Are you kidding me? There’s no way a Mario Tennis game could be considered a big holiday release especially after Open’s lukewarm reception.

    1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

This could be a good thing for Xenoblade Chronicles X, though. If people are still trying to get the bad taste out of their mouth from the last game, XCX has a chance to have more sales.

  8. i like the art box of the game and i hope rosalina show up in the game at some pointor maybe making her wearing a sport outfit.

  9. They did say there will be more new characters outside of the main Mario cast. So maybe Rosalinda does make an appearance there. lol

  10. I love the Mario Tennis games, so I’ll probably pick it up. However, it isn’t a top priority. I’m sure they will do SOME kind of deal so people can buy it on the cheap.

  12. Ok, some people want to use motion controls and some want traditional controls. How about Nintendo puts two diff modes that cater to each? I’d buy it if they did.

  13. Mario Tennis is always fun, but I can´t shake off the feeling that this game was made just to cover some period of lack of lauches. It doesn´t seem that it features any huge improvements over previous Mario Tennis games.
I really don´t feel hyped about it, I just hope to be wrong, really.
