Analyst David Gibson Believes It’s Likely Nintendo NX Will Launch Next Year

Following on from our story of Nintendo distributing software kits for the Nintendo NX, David Gibson an analyst at Macquarie Capital Securities believes it’s increasingly likely that Nintendo plans to launch the platform next year. Gibson attributes this notion to the slowing sales of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

“We are increasingly of the idea that Nintendo might launch the NX in 2016 because of the softness of 3DS and Wii U.”

    1. Perhaps New 3DS sales, although it makes sense since the original 3DS has sold so much already.

NX seems to be, and I hope it is, a jumping off point for a completely new direction for Nintendo which it needs.

    2. Well, while the 3DS keeps selling, I have to say, not many new games on it interests me. I might have to add that I barely have time to play games anymore, so I’ve skipped most of what’s been released lately…

  1. 💃I'm a Boss Ass Bitch💯

J Fucking Believe The Xbox One Will Fucking Fail In 3 Seconds From Today. I guess I’m a fucking analyst now.

  3. I say it’s 50/50 at this point. Simply put, maybe it will, maybe it won’t. I for one, will wait until E3 2016, when Nintendo gives a sure fire year, before thinking about the NX’s release.

  4. Wow I didnt see that one comming… And that is supposed to be their job? It’s pretty sad when the fans are doing your job better than you…

  5. You have GOT….to be kidding me. Just because a dev program is released doesn’t mean its going to come out very soon. Its going to be at least a full near end year if its that soon. I still say its going to be around 2017.

    “Are you fool”?

  6. Good Lord. I haven’t checked any numbers, but haven’t sales of the Wii U actually picked up since releases such as Splatoon and Super Mario Maker? If Nintendo releases the NX in 2016, they’re going to fuck it up like they did the Wii U because there won’t be any software available for it upon launch. They just sent out the dev kits for chrisakes. It takes at least two years to make a quality game on any system, which means I’m sticking with my prediction of 2017. They’ll formally unveil it at E3 2016 and release it Spring or Fall 2017. This will also give the Wii U a minimum five year console cycle, which is important to maintain consumer confidence. I’m sure Nintendo remembers what happened to Sega. Nintendo isn’t in great shape right now, but it isn’t in bad shape either. There is no need to take unnecessary risks and rush out the NX before it’s ready.

  7. This David Gibson guy is just all wrong. No way is Nintendo gonna pull a Sega and release the NX in 2016. Hell, they’ve even pushed games back to be on the Wii U in 2016 and if Nintendo were to abandon the Wii U in 2016 they would’ve just brought those delayed games to the NX. Bottom line, I don’t see them releasing the NX next year because they would want to sell more Wii Us first so 2017 seems like a more feasible release date based on Nintendo’s history

  8. I’m still predicting 2017. After all, Nintendo doesn’t want to make another mistake by releasing a console with only a few launch games again, and little third party support. With games like Star Fox Zero and Zelda both coming to Wii U, I doubt the NX will also be coming in 2016. It just seems too soon.
