Nintendo Is Now Distributing The Software Kit For The Nintendo NX

Sources close to the Wall Street Journal have been told that Nintendo is currently distributing software kits for their upcoming NX platform. This suggests that it’s likely that the product will be introduced next year. Nintendo has previously said that they won’t be publicly talking about the Nintendo NX until 2016.

Nintendo Co. has begun distributing a software development kit for its new NX videogame platform, people familiar with the matter said, suggesting the company is on track to introduce the product as early as next year.

The exact shape of the NX hardware isn’t yet clear. People familiar with the development plans said Nintendo would likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use. They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.

      1. I was already telling people that the NX wouldn’t release until 2017 given Nintendo’s track record of home console releases. 2016 was way too soon for a home console successor

      1. Maybe not exclusives that start development now. Remember, some of these Devs have been working on NX games since earlier this year, all they really have to do is optimize it to run on the NX.

Of course, that’s if we are to believe these rumors.

      2. I’m not disagreeing with you in that regard. I’m just saying that it’s not impossible. And if launched correctly these ports wouldn’t have to be old, DQ11 is one example.

      3. How can they start working on exclusives without a dev kit? The only thing we’ve heard is devs saying they’d be interested on bringing their games to the NX not that they are working on it.

      4. Because the dev kits aren’t the only thing that developers can develop on. Specially if rumors are true and the NX is using the x86 architecture.

Anyways, I’m going to stop entertaining that thought. Rumors are rumors.

      5. Probably because they did like Sony and worked closely on the hardware with some of the most important publishers. I don’t think so but whatever.

    1. They haven’t even announced the console yet, so it doesn’t seem very likely. Unless, of course, they are hoping to push the Wii U as hard as they can before just releasing a new console to replace it…

    2. Well it might actually, or perhaps one of its devices. Remember several big studios like square and ubisoft already have development kits, and Nintendo has already bin working on new games for it. It well most likely be backwards comparable, so all of the established library on 3ds and Wii U should be available.

    1. Yes! In fact, only a couple years into the other consoles’ life, Nintendo would have a real horse in the race. WiiU should have come out in 2008.

Mistakes aside, reveal at E3 and launch at holiday 2016 might be a stretch but if they are motivated enough it can happen… Expect dual Zelda launch for wiiU and NX then or a skip on wiiu all together. If that is the case, a HD Twilight might be in the works to quell WiiU owners that they still got some zelda with that and Windwaker but as mentioned before, I doubt an HD remake of that title would go under the radar for so long. Yet, HD remakes for WiiU could keep the console alive for a bit

      1. No to all of that! I can’t believe we are now entertaining rumors from the Wall Street Journal. A stock news website. I don’t understand why people can’t wait until Nintendo reveal what the NX is. Something that is still unknown no matter how many rumors pop up.

      2. Because and as bad as I hate to say it, a lot of gamers (not me) have lost interest in the Wii U so they’re looking into the future to see what the NX could and should be. I’m pretty sure gamers know that everything being reported about the NX are rumors because nothing is confirmed yet but it’s always fun to speculate and hope for the best for the future

      3. Speculation lead to many people believing in the speculations which cause misinformation to be spread. Speculation is just people’s wants out of the information they have been giving.

      4. that’s how businesses work, you know, things get leaked abd Wall Street Journal and other outlets (it is not a “stock news website” only) get a hold of information and formulate hypotheses based on that information. If software dev packs have gone out, coupled with sales/market figures, then they can assume or guess at certain conclusions. Hell, maybe Nintendo missed out on some games that came out over the past 18 months that could still get a Nintendo re-release, so if (big IF) a NX launch happened holiday 2016, there could be some ports available of popular games in series that have passed on WiiU

      5. Basically, Wall street journal heard of something they believe to be true then make an article with some guesses on it. When I first read the article, there was nothing but guess work. I don’t know how anyone takes these type of articles seriously. Next week a new rumor based on something someone heard will come up and people will forget this article.

  1. There are so many rumours about the NX that it’s really hard to discern anything at all about it. Some sources say it won’t try and compete with PS4 and Xbone for power, some like this one say it will be industry-leading. Honestly, I find it hard to imagine it will be a significant step in power above PS4 and Xbone, because that wouldn’t seem to follow Nintendo’s recent strategies, but we’ll see.

Some say it will be the “Fusion” concept, others say it’s just a home console, others still say it’s just a handheld (though this is definitely a minority view). Nintendo themselves seem to imply that it’s none of the above, but then what the hell is it?

Then there’s the operating system. The rumours were that it would run on Android, then Nintendo refuted that. Some then said it was because it’s actually a Nintendo-modified version of Android. No refutation of that as far as I know, but is there any basis behind that rumour?

As for games, we know none. Of course the rumour is that they might pull a Twilight Princess and release Zelda Wii U on Wii U and NX launch. I can see that as a possibility, as this was a successful strategy on the Wii, but there is no suggestion from Nintendo that this could happen as of yet. A 3D Mario game is also rumoured, but again, this is more due to the fact that one is “due” rather than any meaningful evidence behind it. Miyamoto says Pikmin 4 is almost finished, so maybe this will be on NX? All complete speculation.

I think it’s fair to say that I have never seen rumours like this for a console that we literally know next-to-nothing about ever. Nintendo have a lot to live up to when it finally gets revealed next year? Do the signs point to a 2016 release? I think yes, but then again, if they really do reveal it at E3, then that’s a very short time between a proper reveal and console release. I think the best we can do is wait and see – we know nothing.

    1. The worse part is no one knows if it’s a handheld or console or something completely different. People treating rumors as fact. Nintendo will reveal what it is at some point and the crazy talk can be over.

      1. Reggie did not say the NX is a home console. People need to stop reaching and actually listen to what people say when they speak. No one has said anything about NX within Nintendo except that it is a dedicated platform and they will talk about it next year. Only facts.

      2. annnnnd that is also why most fail to see that rumors are not all its cracked up to me. all these “big time” so called analysis also known as “media” are nothing more than fools who think they know what nintendo will pull out next like a magicians hat holding a rabbit, they do the same with xbox and playstation and are usually proven wrong like Michael Pachter. Point it, they are all dumb shits.

      1. I like how people interpret industry leading chips to be something powerful. Industry leading chips just mean the chips that most in the industry are using.

  2. I think it will be similar to past console reveals in that it will be shown next year but launched the following year (2017). And that’s really what they should do because launch 2016 is too soon but 2017 fits with the Nintendo console pattern.

  3. i think the NX will be more Powerful then the PS4 and Xbox One and also the chips that they are gonna add is gonna be more accurate then the Wii U plus if they cool anything from the company then i think nintendo will have great use to more IPs to make a stabilize hardware and and they are pushing alot of the projects they have work on make it into a better profit so that way nintendo will have a great price for the NX and they will get more ports on putting third partys games in it and they did say third party will be including too thats what exactly they said theres one more thing i forgot to mention a few months ago they said that the NX will be the next home console they really said that some people say that nintendo is working on another HandHeld system..

  4. From this I can confirm that this is bullshit: “They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.”
As if Nintendo ever did that in 30 years and would do that, it’s not like they are aiming for titles like the PS4 and Xbone, and it’s definitely not like indie devs would ask for more ^_^

These news articles all come from that one small announcement from Nintendo that they are working on the NX, because they were afraid that these exact same people would spread rumours about Nintendo making a Sega-like ending.

Just don’t believe anything unless it comes from a verified source, what is not the case here.
