Fatal Frame Localisation Removes Skimpy Costumes

Those of you who feared that the lingerie and bathing suits in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water were being replaced with the Princess Zelda and Samus Aran outfits were correct, as they have been replaced by the Nintendo themed attire. I guess Nintendo of America and Nintendo Europe thought the costumes were a little too risky despite the game being for mature gamers only.

Oh for fuck sake Nintendo! can’t you have some adult games and not slap us in the face with your dicks please we finally get some good games and you want to censor it ? Ugh why i work with you guys i don’t know at least my job in the bear factory isn’t annoying other than those bronies

      1. It’s about standards. First they came for the Socialists, and all that. People’s work should never be tampered with just because someone considers it to be tacky or offensive in any way, it’s the consumer’s responsability to vote with their wallets. Censorship is NEVER the answer.

        1. And if it was the developer the one who decided to make the change? Are you gonna criticize the creator because they decided to do a change on something that in the big scheme of things is a minor thing?

          1. Well, do you have any source backing that up? Because if you don’t have it, that’s baseless speculation.

Regardless, it wouldn’t change the fact that different regions are getting different products. That isn’t fair to the consumer.

            1. Well, I’m basing myself over the idea that if NIntendo where as kid friendly as people claim them to be, they wouldn’t have sexualised Samus the way they do since the NES to Smash Bros 4, they wouldn’t have allowed Bayonetta 2 to have those suits, they would have censored games like No More Heroes and Madworld; when People mention the censorship of Bravely Default, they forget that it was S-E the one who decided to make the censorship. To say that Nintendo is the one who did the censorship and not the developer would be ignoring the history of the company and how they “censor” their games (the only censorship they would have done is changing religious stuff like in the first Zelda, because that WOULD have triggered people, no matter what they believed in).

Now to say that customers around the globe getting different stuff is unfair is more debatable than anything, because from what I get, Japan isn’t getting the Zelda and Samus suit (and that Samus suit doesn’t look very bad) and not all the countries have the same needs or desires.

              1. People don’t realize it is also about the legality of it. They want to not get sued for things they have control over.

                  1. True. There are things we don’t know about so we make our own reality. Truth is Nintendo knows the reason right or wrong.

                    1. Yeah. For now, only Nintendo knows (an the localizing unit.) maybe we’ll know for sure someday.

                    2. “they wouldn’t have sexualised Samus the way they do since the NES”
Showing Samus in a swimsuit is a way to reaffirm the idea that she’s female and not some dude with long hair. That particular example has more to do with the limited grafics of the time that with anything else.

                      “Smash Bros 4”
Explain to me how she’s sexualized. Because as far as I know, they’re just running with the current design. Blame Sakamoto, if anyone. SSB4’s Samus is sexy, but she’s not sexualized. There’s a difference there.
You’d have a point if you’d mentioned Brawl’s cutscenes, though.

“No More Heroes, Bayonetta 2 and MadWorld”
They respect third-party studios like Grasshopper or Platinum enough to give them some liberties. Besides that, only Bayonetta 2 was published by Nintendo, and flaunty sexuality is a defining trait of the character (and needless to say, it’d be extremely weird to tone it down, given that there’s a previous game in the series). They’re not the best examples you could use.

“the only censorship they would have done”
FE:A and tones of dialogue censorship that you seemly didn’t even notice disagree with you.

                          1. lol you ask someone to explain to you how a sexualized character is sexualized and then turn around tell them to not talk about things they don’t know?

                            1. I’m not asking for anything: I know it’s not the same case at all, and I know the difference between a character being sexy and a character being sexualized, which are VERY different things.

And I told him to stop talking about what he doesn’t know because he claimed Nintendo hasn’t censored any game other than the original Zelda, which couldn’t be further than the truth. He claims that while he hasn’t even played Fire Emblem: Awakening, a very recent game that suffered from a similar degree of controversy regarding this very same topic.

If you”re too mentally challenged to follow such a simple conversation, that’s on you. Don’t try to drag me down with your stupidity.

                              1. I was really insane, I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw the result. The ‘censored’ frame is even more lewd, in a way, because it makes it look like Tharja isn’t wearing anything. And let’s not forget how they removed the conversation about Cordelia’s tomboyish nature just because they were talking about boobs.

                                1. Yep. Utter silliness. It’s still an amazing game, because they couldn’t censor the entire script, but come on, like we couldn’t have handled those things? Sheesh.

                                  1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Instead of seeing Tharja fixing her bikini bottom, I now see Chrom getting some booty! Great job, NintenD’OH!

                                  2. It was almost certainly Nintendo and not KT that removed the costumes. (Not that I really mind, but sales-wise I bet they would’ve sold more copies with them kept it)

                                    1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

The game comes out tomorrow at midnight, and there is still no option to preload… I’m more upset about that than anything else.

                                    1. I’m a girl and I dont care for those kind of costumes, they are just costumes, what’s the problem with this? If some people want some costumes like this, what’s the problem? And it’s a mature game and all.

                                    2. Even though I personally don’t really understand the appeal of costumes like that in a horror game, I think it’s very strange for Nintendo to completely remove them, considering it’s an M rated game and they were optional anyway.

                                          1. But this is not necessarily sex in that sense, I believe.
I just think it kinda doesn’t fit the atmosphere of a horror game if the characters are walking around in lingerie for no reason. But each to their own of course, if others like it, even better for them.

                                            1. I’m certainly not arguing with you, but many, many, many horror films and games use sensuality. Psychologically speaking, studies find there is a correlation.

I think it would be weird if you started in a costume for sure, so I do see your point. I think these are mainly for second playthrough? :)

                                              1. Hah, yea, that’s true. :)

But then again, thinking about it, there never seems to be much of a point questioning the choices and actions of characters in horror games/movies anyway, lmao.

                                                1. Expanding on this, it has to do with the vulnerability that comes with nakedness, the lack of awareness to your surroundings while turned on and the fear of life itself, of contact with another human being. It’s very interesting from a psychological point of view.

                                                2. M rating doesn’t mean things cannot be taking out. It just mean there are things in the game that only mature people should see. Same with R rating in movies. Things get taken out.

                                                      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

This is just another case of Nintendo of America & Europe being major fucking idiots as usual. That’s ALL there really is to it.

                                                      2. Yes, of course. But the only reason I can come up with as to why they would remove those costumes is because they might be considered “inappropriate”, which simply seems odd to me considering an M rated game is meant for players who are 18+, and I’d like to believe people at that age are mature + old enough to be able to deal with things like that, especially when it’s an optional feature anyway.
So yes, while the M rating doesn’t mean they can’t take things out, I personally just can’t see any reasonable motive as to why the costumes needed to be removed, due to the reasons mentioned above.

                                                          1. I agree we may never know, but Nintendo is responsible for Bayonetta, so barring some hypocritical logic, I really don’t see how they can defend this one.

                                                        1. And of course Nintendo had to remove it so that the feminazis and Tumblr SJWs wouldn’t bitch about it it. We might as well rename both parties the “No Fun Allowed for Triggered People Like Us” organization.

                                                          1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

If they wanted to avoid angry essays written by women who wanted to make clickbait, removing the costumes was useless, because they already exist all over the internet.

                                                            1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Doesn’t mean Dumbtendo won’t at least try to make those idiots happy. Even if it is a wasteful attempt. That’s just how stupid Nintendo can be at times.

                                                          2. Rabble rabble rabble.

In all seriousness, seems odd. They’ll change this but some how onechanbara was ok? Oh well, vote with your wallet’s my friend. I’m still picking it up though lol.

                                                                1. Yeah, but it still angers me that people is deciding to not buy the game for something so trivial.

I would understand because its a Digital game, but BECAUSE of some dumb censorship? thats very dumb.

                                                                  1. I think people are just fed up. It’s not just the censorship, it’s all the bullshit for years.
Like, when you’re in a good relationship, you let stuff slide, but in a shitty relationship, you fight over the smallest things.

Well, Nintendo has a shit relationship with most of it’s mature audience, so this bullshit will not be overlooked like it may have 6 years ago.

                                                                  2. The problem here as i saw on other thread is that with this censorship they’ll lost a lot of sells, so in the near future they’ll be thinking “oh snaps! that game didn’t sell that well and we even localizated it. Let’s not localize it ever again, probably it doesn’t have anything to do with the censorship we did… Of course not, we censor it so that already mature boys/girls enough to watch porn wouldn’t think anything strange with our M rated game”.

                                                                    1. 1.- Censorship never affect sales (and if people really isn’t gonna buy a game just for that, then they don’t know what is it that matters in a game).

2.- If you’ve seen how NIntendo treated Samus and how permissive they were with Bayonetta 2, you’ll know that this censorship wasn’t from Nintendo.

3.- Those girls have 17 years or so, and people may not get so triggered about a bikini, but maybe for the sexualisation of minors.

                                                                      1. “Those girls have 17 years or so, and people may not get so triggered about a bikini, but maybe for the sexualisation of minors”
Just change their ages, then. And again, you can marry and have a child with a 5 year-old looking character in FE:A.

                                                                          1. And she doesn’t look like a 17 year old girl in any shape or form, so what’s the problem?

Yes, her face is juvenile, but you really should go to take a look at a highschool if you think every 17 year-old girl has the body of a Playboy model.

                                                                        1. Pingback: La localización de Fatal Frame retira los trajes atrevidos | Arcadiavg

                                                                              1. The point is, it’s not even that sexualized in the first place. You’re trying to compare apples and oranges, and you’re deliberately leaving out the fact that they did not create the IP and that this kind of costumes appeared in previous entries in the series.

                                                                            1. I hope Nintendo gets more Mature when NX Arrive. i went them to grow the fuck up! i’m tired of this baby none sense! i’m sorry for sounding like a bitch. But i really hate Nintendo’s rules. and always focus on fucking kids audience… Sony Focuses on BOTH I mean.. everyone! Nintendo just focuses on kids. enough of da shita Nintendo when the NX Arrives. When the NX Arrives please focus on mature audiences first. then get them kids Nintendont.

                                                                              1. If NX isn’t a handheld, I’m skipping it. My first Nintendo system I’d have skipped, ever. I’ll buy one on the cheap years later. Unless Nintendo pulls a miracle out of their ass and changes back into who they used to be.

                                                                              2. Maturity is knowing when to rake something out. Maturity is much more than a rating. Nintendo from day 1 has always on everyone.

                                                                                    1. The article is indeed about this one game. However Nintendo fans didn’t go AWOL overnight. This is bigger than a bikini.

                                                                                      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

A lot bigger! This is just another stab in the back to us by Nintendo in a long list of backstabbing.

                                                                                    2. It is pretty silly, to change them to those stupid Nintendo costumes… I mean, it will take me out of the game. They don’t have to be half naked, but whatever it is supposed to look like or what fits with the game’s story and themes would be preferred.

We are not all babies… Why not change the blood in devil’s third to blue ink?

                                                                                    3. It’s complete speculation and theorycrafting to say that Nintendo DIDN’T do the censorship. In most cases, the developer isn’t the one who is going to do that, the publisher will. Just because Nintendo didn’t censor Bayonetta 2 doesn’t mean they take that stance on all their games. Until it’s officially stated who actually did the censoring, Nintendo is still the most likely suspect.

                                                                                    4. Dudes!! C’mon! If you wanna see half naked japanese girls, there are alreasy a lot of different websites you can visit, this is a GAME, not an XX-rated film… so, suck it up! I still getting this one!

                                                                                    5. People bitching about costumes… that in no way are essential or mandatory to the game play.
I am baffled and sorry for that they decided to remove these costumes, and those Nintendo costumes do not really fit in the game, but I’m not going to boycott it (especially since I have the sweet ass limited edition ordered).
I never use these costumes on first run through, and they’re really not that essential for second play through either.

                                                                                        1. Nintendo rep has been confirmed to visit anyone with this game and force gamers to wear Zelda costume on gunpoint.
And not on the game character.

                                                                                      1. They are just probably leaving that as a DLC… who knows…
But why are people getting so pissy about this?
Wanna see girls naked? Go watch a soft porn video or better yet, get a girlfriend.
Enjoy the game for what it is, don’t buy it if you don’t want to. I will be buying this since I love Fatal Frame c:

                                                                                      2. I’m so glad they censored this. I don’t think my 27 year old brain is mature enough to handle it.
Damnit, Nintendo! Just let us decide!

                                                                                      3. PC Master Race Agent Narud

                                                                                        ||Something as inapposite as this will surely affect you young prodigals……

                                                                                        ||The Master Race will have no trouble reclaiming what is rightfully ours……

                                                                                      4. While I have no interest in this game series whatsoever, I think it’s very silly that people would feel it necessary to include lingerie in a survival horror game. If you’re going to sell sexuality, package it up and DLC that Magikarp.

                                                                                        1. On one hand a lot of FF purists complained about the costumes as being inappropriate for Fatal Frame which could’ve been a big reason for this. On the other hand it is ridiculous that they removed them from an M rated game and probably will lower sales unfortunately. I kind of expected this from NOA but I’m surprised Nintendo Europe removed them since Europe is much more liberal about sexual content. But in the end skimpy costumes shouldn’t be a reason to buy or not buy the game. Buy it because of the beloved Fatal Frame gameplay.

                                                                                        2. Well, this was “fun.”
Still buying the game… Can’t afford to vote with my wallet on this one. I’ve really wanted to play a Fatal Frame.

                                                                                        3. Giving in to the sex-negative feminists’ moral panics is never a good business choice, they’re not the industry’s target audience, they’re just a bunch of soccer mom-ish killjoys who don’t even buy games.

                                                                                        4. As much as I liked the guy I have a feeling Iwata had a big part in how childish NoA has been lately simply by looking at recent T.V. commercials compared the ones from when Kimishima was head of NoA, hopefully this will change soon

                                                                                        5. Nintendo’s Logic: Oh you say you want a Rated M game? Alright here you go…wait hold up just a second, lets just remove the things that tip it to being a Rated M game…there much better now you got a Rated T game that is just labeled Rated M cause remember “We listen to our fans”. Swear to god Nintendo does the dumbest shit.

                                                                                        6. And removing costumes of dubious coverage in an M-rated game accomplishes what, exactly? Whose eyes are they trying to save?

If it’s for “the precious kids” again, I might lose my shit- kids shouldn’t be playing these kinds of games to begin with.

                                                                                        7. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

                                                                                          NintenD’OH! strikes again!

Oh hey, smashbroslink, if you are reading this, you are an idiot if you don’t think Nintendo isn’t babysitting anyone. I pity you for not being able to take off your Nintendo Loyalist Blinders, kid. This goes to all you people idiotically giving Nintendo the benefit of a doubt or defending their bullshit. You are all sheep! What’s pitiful is most of you don’t even realize that Nintendo is leading you all off a cliff. Enjoy the fall, suckers!

                                                                                          1. mmmmmwwwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahagahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
